To check the efficacy of potassium in alleviating oxidative stress under salt stress, salt-tolerant (Indent-1) and salt-sensitive (Red Ball) tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) genotypes were exposed to three levels of sodium chloride (NaCl) (0, 75, 150 mM) and two levels of potassium (4.5 and 9 mM) in solution and foliar form. Thirty days of treatments revealed that increasing NaCl stress increased lipid peroxidation (malondialdehyde, MDA) and correspondingly the activity of antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, SOD; catalase, CAT; and glutathione reductase GR) in both genotypes. However, higher potassium (K) level in solution or foliar spray during the salt-induced stress decreased MDA and antioxidant activity and increased the growth in salt-tolerant genotype than in the salt-sensitive genotype. Pilot-scale wastewater treatment systems were investigated for real textile effluent. The parameters of interest in this study were color (Reactive Blue-19 dye), chemical oxygen demand, and growth potential in Triticum aestivum (wheat) and Lolium multiflorum (ryegrass). The dissolved air flotation and electrochemical treatment were studied independently as well as in combination termed as “integrated” (INTG) treatment system for comparative analysis. The overall results showed that the best treatment performance was achieved through INTG treatment as reduction of 63% in COD and 72% in color was achieved without addition of any other chemical at the current density of 1 mA/cm2 in 1 h of residence time using aluminum electrodes. The INTG-treated effluent was tested for growth potential studies and the results showed that root/shoot lengths were 20/26% and 34/35% more for wheat and ryegrass, respectively, as compared to the untreated wastewater. We studied the effect of sodium chloride (NaCl) salinity and oxygen deficiency stress on growth and leaf ionic composition of three Eucalyptus species [E. tereticornis, E. camaldulensis (Silverton), and E. camaldulensis (Local)]. Species were grown with control (no NaCl) and salinity (150 mol m−3 NaCl) under hypoxic and non-hypoxic conditions in nutrient solution with five replications following CRD. Species differed significantly in their response to salinity and hypoxia. Absolute shoot dry matter was significantly better in E. camaldulensis (Silverton) in salinity and in E. camaldulensis (Local) in saline hypoxic treatment. E. tereticornis was the most sensitive species to salinity and salinity × hypoxia in the root environment.
