Despite gaining consumer momentum and interest of Virtual Reality (VR) in the consumer marketplace, the literature has lagged in exploring the continuance usage behaviour and factors associated with the post-adoption. To build on this, the current research seeks to identify factors that support the continuance usage of current VR users. To examine this, we employ a mixed-method approach. In Study 1, we initially gathered a total of 3,205 actual purchasers (Amazon verified purchase) from the top 10 VR brands listed in Amazon.com, Through a nethnographic content analysis, the key determinants of post-adoption of VR devices emerged (i.e. perceived functional benefit, perceived discomfort, perceived focused immersion, temporal dissociation, perceived health risk, and task quality). In Study 2, hypotheses were tested using structural equation modelling from 119 current VR users. The results demonstrate temporal dissociation and task quality were found to be the most significant antecedents affecting continuance usage. Theoretical and managerial implications are debated, as well as suggestions for future research.

In the past, researchers have explored virtual reality (VR) as an educational tool primarily for training or therapeutic purposes. In this research, the authors examine the potential for using Google Cardboard VR in business classrooms as a content delivery platform. They specifically investigate how VR (viewing a 3-dimensional, 360° video) differs from the traditional flat-screen (FS) format (viewing a 2-dimensional video [e.g., iPod (Apple, Cupertino, CA)]) as a teaching tool to deliver video-based content. The results demonstrate that participants in the VR condition (vs. the FS condition) rated their enjoyment and interest to be higher. However, the Google Cardboard VR platform was not superior to the iPod FS format in its content delivery with respect to novelty, reliability, and understandability.

The objective of this study was to determine the longitudinal predictors of past-6-month suicide attempts for a diverse adolescent sample of Native Hawaiians, Pacific peoples, and Asian Americans. The study used longitudinal data from the Hawaiian High Schools Health Survey (N = 2,083, 9th to 11th graders, 1992-1993 and 1993-1994 school years). A stepwise multiple logistic regression was conducted. The final model consisted of three statistically significant predictors: (1) Time 1 suicide attempt, odds ratio = 30.6; (2) state anxiety, odds ratio = 4.9; and (3) parent expectations, odds ratio = 1.9. Past suicide attempt was by far the strongest predictor of future suicide attempts. Implications are discussed, including the need for screening of prior suicide attempts and focused interventions after suicide attempts.

In this exploratory research, the authors categorize the benefits and challenges of participating in a mentoring program from the perspectives of mentors and mentees. The authors use the mentoring framework proposed by Crisp and Cruz in 2009 to inform educators. The authors report the percentage of mention, the level of occurrence, and the effect to university experience related to these benefits and challenges. Mentors reported the process of role modeling to be most beneficial yet challenging. Mentees reported psychological and emotional support to be most beneficial, but academic and knowledge support to be challenging. The authors provide discussions on recommendations for designing undergraduate mentoring programs.

The authors sought to gain insight on how students view group learning and development as part of their business education experience. Specifically, the authors categorize benefits and challenges using S. A. Wheelan's (2005) integrated model of group development. Additionally, they investigate (from the students' perspective) best practices that instructors can implement to improve students' group work experience. As group work is critical in business classrooms, the authors suggest instructors should focus more on the earlier stages of group development by assigning groups based on students' strengths and weaknesses, offering a better introduction to groups, and assigning more group-related time or meetings during class.

Although many marketing courses discuss traditional concepts pertaining to product strategy, concepts specifically relating to packaging are often glossed over. This exercise, “Wrap-Attack Pack,” teaches students about the utilitarian and hedonic design elements of packaging. More specifically, the primary objective is to creatively design a take-out box focusing on graphical and structural components, and provide theoretical justifications for design choices. Students reported that the exercise increased their creative input, helped them to acquire marketing skills, enhanced their learning experience, and increased course satisfaction. Alternative methods for conducting the exercise in online and/or resource-constrained instructional environments are also presented.

Despite the recent focus on disruptive student behaviors in the classroom, little attention has been given to disruptive faculty behaviors. Utilizing theoretical concepts developed in the services-marketing literature, this study empirically explores student perceptions of disruptive faculty behaviors in the classroom. More specifically, this research develops a typology of disruptive faculty behaviors, including frequency of occurrence and the perceived magnitude of disruptions from the students’ perspective. Respondents also provide insights into how well students effectively manage disruptive faculty behaviors. Twelve types of disruptive behaviors and 10 suggested approaches for managing disruptive faculty behaviors are presented and discussed.

The AIDA Model (Attention-Interest-Desire-Action) is one of the classical promotional theories in marketing. Through active-learning techniques and peer critiques, we use infomercials as an innovative educational tool to instruct the four components of the AIDA model. Student evaluations regarding this active-learning assignment reveal that the infomercial activity increases students’ creative input, engages participation, builds class enthusiasm, fosters peer relationships, and enhances topic knowledge. Benefits, constraints, and learning objectives relating to the activity are also discussed.

Based on the popular television show the Iron Chef, an innovative marketing activity called the "Iron Inventor" is introduced. Using the creative problem-solving approach and active learning techniques, the Iron Inventor facilitates student learning pertaining to the step-by-step processes of creating a new product and exposes students to the challenges associated with the new product development processes. End-of-semester assessments reveal the Iron Inventor as a superior method in enhancing student satisfaction. More specifically, the Iron Inventor activity increases students' creative input, enhances topic knowledge, engages participation, fosters relationships, and builds class enthusiasm.

Over the past three decades, due to the recognition of late effects related to high-dose extended field radiotherapy and heavy alkylator chemotherapy, combined modality therapy with abbreviated chemotherapy and limited field radiotherapy has emerged as the standard of care for early stage Hodgkin lymphoma, with cure rates in excess of 80%. Currently, however, controversy remains over identifying the most appropriate criteria to risk-stratify patients with early stage disease, so that those with a favorable prognosis receive limited treatment without compromising cure rates and those with unfavorable risk receive more intensified therapy. The optimal risk stratification system remains unclear, with variable definitions of favorable and unfavorable disease used by research groups in North America and Europe. Thus, comparison of clinical trial results has been challenging, and additional controversies persist regarding optimal chemotherapy regimens, duration of therapy, and the role of radiotherapy. Investigations are ongoing to assess the potential of functional imaging and biomarkers as tools for risk stratification. The collective goal is to further refine current stratification strategies to allow for an individualized, risk-adapted treatment approach that minimizes long-term late effects without compromising high cure rates.

This study examined the effect of older employees' perceived relative age of their organization's workforce, work group members, and immediate supervisor on human resource practices tailored to older employees and older employees' sense of worth. The 291 participants were aged between 50 and 65 years. Perceived organization relative age was associated with the human resource practices, perceived work-group relative age was related to training and respect, and perceived supervisor relative age was associated with respect and fair treatment. All three relational age variables were related to perceived contribution to the organization. It is important for employers to be aware of the age dissimilarities within their organizations and to take steps to bolster older employees' feeling of being valued organizational members.

This article describes some of the ways that ‘Greater Britain’ functioned as a component of British national identity for some of those devoted to the ideal of a united empire in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. As outspoken advocates of a united empire, historians such as Charles Lucas and Hugh Egerton, promoted and adapted what was essentially a cultural ‘story’ that helped shape and communicate this identity. The article also seeks to demonstrate how these ideas were reflected in a variety of organisations that supported the ideal of a united empire.

The TATA-binding protein (TBP) contains a concave surface that interacts specifically with TATA promoter elements and a convex surface that mediates protein-protein interactions with general and gene-specific transcription factors. Biochemical experiments suggest that interactions between activator proteins and TBP are important in stimulating transcription by the RNA polymerase II machinery. To gain insight into the role of TBP in mediating transcriptional activation in vivo, we implemented a genetic strategy in Saccharomyces cerevisiae that involved the use of a TBP derivative with altered specificity for TATA elements. By genetically screening a set of TBP mutant libraries that were biased to the convex surface that mediates protein-protein interactions, we identified TBP derivatives that are impaired in the response to three acidic activators (Gcn4, Gal4, and Ace1) but appear normal for constitutive polymerase II transcription. A genetic complementation assay indicates that the activation-defective phenotypes reflect specific functional properties of the TBP derivatives rather than an indirect effect on transcription. Surprisingly, three of the four activation-defective mutants affect residues that directly contact DNA. Moreover, all four mutants are defective for TATA element binding, but they interact normally with an acidic activation domain and TFIIB. In addition, we show that a subset of TBP derivatives with mutations on the DNA-binding surface of TBP are also compromised in their responses to acidic activators in vivo. These observations suggest that interactions at the TBP-TATA element interface can specifically affect the response to acidic activator proteins in vivo.

An alternate prepurification procedure was developed for the isolation and purification of azadirachtin, a biologically active limonoid, from neem (Azadirachta indica) seeds by the use of Florisil and droplet counter-current chromatographies. The procedure, combined with the use of preparative high performance liquid chromatography, yielded 364.8 mg of >99% pure azadirachtin from 1.5 kg of Indian neem seeds.
