This paper analyses the relationship between psychological wellbeing and frugality, evaluated as behaviour geared towards the voluntary restriction of consumption and the resourceful use of available resources. An analysis of structural equations was carried out using a model with moderated mediation on a sample of 1113 people. The main finding was the predictive capacity of frugal behaviour, in its two factors, to explain the level of wellbeing. A mediation effect was observed where the restriction of consumption drives the resourceful use of resources, which in turn significantly predicts the level of wellbeing. The moderating role played by the level of economic income on these relationships was analysed, conceptualized as an indicator of a person’s capacity to determine the restriction of their consumption. It is concluded that frugality is a positive element of sustainable behaviour that offers an alternative from the perspective of downscaling in contrast to models centred on efficiency.

ResumenEl estudio del apego y la identidad con el lugar ha dado lugar a numerosas definiciones y posicionamientos teoricos sobre la relacion entre ambos. Una linea de investigacion que permite clarificar el campo tiene que ver con la comparacion de territorios culturalmente diferentes. El proposito de este articulo es comprobar si existen diferencias en el apego y la identidad de lugar en funcion del tiempo de residencia y del territorio elegido para inmigrar. Se administro un cuestionario con las escalas de apego e identidad con la ciudad a 138 residentes no nativos en la isla de Tenerife y 141 residentes no nativos en el estado de Israel. Los analisis muestran diferencias entre ambos lugares en el desarrollo de ambos vinculos en funcion del tiempo de residencia. Los resultados se discuten en base a la influencia de la cultura en el desarrollo de los vinculos con el lugar.

ResumenEstudios previos indican que el apego y la identidad implican relaciones diferentes con un lugar, pero la alta correlacion existente entre ambas variables a menudo dificulta su diferenciacion empirica y conceptual. Esta falta de claridad en la relacion entre distintos conceptos relacionados con el lugar representa para muchos el principal obstaculo para el avance en este campo. En este trabajo se realizo un analisis factorial confirmatorio para verificar la estructura factorial de la escala de apego e identidad con el barrio, desarrollada por Hernandez, Hidalgo, Salazar-Laplace & Hess (2007). Asimismo, se compararon simultaneamente dos grupos creados en funcion de la variable tiempo de residencia. Los resultados permiten confirmar la estructura de los dos factores, validar que es la misma para los dos grupos comparados y valorar la influencia del tiempo de residencia en la intensidad de los vinculos.

Rarely have researchers explored the distribution of a programme's effects in a population, tending to focus on unidimensional measures of impact instead. This can mask heterogeneity of effects, making it difficult to identify subsets of the population for whom impacts might differ from a population average. The authors exploit the design of Mexico's Oportunidades programme to construct measures of the heterogeneous impacts of the programme on contraception and compare these with conventional effect estimates. They find that the latter, while probably reliable for particular types of effects, fail to uncover the substantial programme impacts on the poorest women in rural Mexico.

The characteristics of environmental transgressions and transgressors involved in 1,505 files handled by 4 public administrations were assessed. These administrations were in charge of environmental law enforcement in a highly protected setting, across federal, state, island, and municipality jurisdictions. Special attention was given to the transgressors' written responses to administrative sanctions included in the files. These were analyzed integrating the approaches of neutralization techniques and of accounts as strategies of conflict management. Results suggest that most environmental transgressions under study were carried out by private individuals in the personal domain of everyday life, and that transgressors' accounts of environmental transgressions were short, straightforward, and questioned the legitimacy of the environmental law being broken.

Anthropocentrism and ecocentrism are the main ideas on which environmental attitudes and evaluative judgments of the natural environmental are based. Although anthropocentrism and ecocentrism have traditionally been considered independent dimensions, a review of the studies in which the relationship between these concepts is analyzed provides no definitive information about the degree of independence of these factors. The aim of the research presented here is to analyze the relationship between ecocentrism and anthropocentrism, taking into account the underlying motivational basis of both factors. It was expected that ecocentrism would be intrinsically motivated and oriented to satisfying the psychological needs of relationship, autonomy and competence, whereas anthropocentrism would be motivated by the need for social adjustment, although not just as a simple conformity response. The results confirm the absence of a significant correlation between anthropocentrism and ecocentrism, which is interpreted in relation to the absence of correlation between the motivational measures. There is also a significant positive relationship between ecocentrism and internal motivation, as well as between anthropocentrism and external motivation.

resumen literal de la revista Se estudiaron las respuestas que dieron 174 estudiantes universitarios de Sonora, México y 227 de Tenerife, España, a un cuestionario de creencias ambientales. Las respuestas al cuestionario fueron agrupadas en tres factores: 'Antropocentrismo', 'Progreso humano' y 'Naturalismo', los cuales fueron confirmados a través de un análisis factorial. Un análisis multimuestra de covarianza reveló que la estructura factorial en las dos poblaciones era equivalente, es decir, la composición de los tres factores fue semejante en mexicanos y españoles. Se presentaron sin embargo algunas diferencias al correlacionar los factores. Aunque la correlación entre 'antropocentrismo' y 'progreso' fue alta y positiva para ambas muestras, y la covarianza entre 'antropocentrismo' y 'naturalismo' fue muy alta y negativa en los españoles y no tan alta, pero tambien negativa en los mexicanos, la correlación entre 'progreso' y 'naturalismo' fue negativa en la muestra de Tenerife, pero no fue significativa entre los sonorenses. Se discuten estos hallazgos en términos de visiones 'dualistas' y 'holistas' que diferentes sociedades americanas y europeas plantean en su relación con el medio ambiente . The electroslag remelting (ESR) process has been used effectively to produce large ingots of high quality based on the controlled solidification and chemical refining that can be achieved. Despite the widespread application of industrial facilities, there are still issues that prevent an effective control of the process. This is particularly critical considering the large ingots produced industrially which makes the traditional trial and error approach prohibitively expensive. Thus, mathematical models of the process are a good alternative as a process control tool.
