The article focuses on a study which discusses seed cleaning and germination requirements for propagating pickerelweed of Pontederia cordata. Pickerelweed is a native freshwater shoreline species used in ornamental aquascapes and in wetland mitigation and restoration projects. Its showy purplish-blue or white inflorescences make it an ideal candidate for inclusion in water gardens. Its germination may be affected by several environmental cues such as storage technique, stratification, quantity of light and moisture. The study revealed that highest germination percentage was seen in seeds germinated under water. Also, propagules placed on the soil surface germinated to a higher percentage than those under the soil.

Beargrass is a herbaceous perennial that produces a club- or cone-shaped inflorescence of white flowers.
