Recent work in early modern English collecting and bookbinding has shown the extent to which readers viewed books as malleable collections rather than unified totalities. This essay expands our understanding of these practices by examining a series of volumes collected and bound during the second half of the seventeenth century. Uncertainties and ambiguities are evident in discourses of contemporary women's activisms in Egypt, as are anxieties about young women's roles in them. In spite of a tendency to take the NGO for granted as the site of activism in Egypt, this article highlights the activities of young women outside the usual structures. I describe a 'leadership industry' that seeks to reproduce established models of activism, raising questions about the replicability of activist 'pipelines' and calling attention to their use as a prop for unjust and inadequate social and political structures. Concurrently, young women's Islamically inspired volunteerism presents an alternative notion of activism that turns away from liberal prescriptions. Drawing on key scholarship as well as my own experiences with prominent women's NGOs and the 2008 Women as Global Leaders Conference, I seek to show how these trajectories help inform ambiguities and assumptions about contemporary women's activism., There is a revealing gap in the literature, a lack of clarity, and a deep anxiety around young women in contemporary Egyptian activism. The authors discuss past researchers' suggestions that, due to societal demands, folklorists should lead in the development of intercultural communication studies programs. They questions whether intercultural communication studies can overlap into other academic disciplines besides cultural studies.

This paper investigates whether paper and video triggers stimulate different social and cognitive processes during PBL. The study focused on how medical students identified and described problems, and how they built shared cognitions that lead them to diagnose and solve problems. The results showed that students who used video triggers put more effort into communicating their understanding of the problem and relevant knowledge than students who used paper triggers. The findings contribute to discussions on how to evaluate the effectiveness of different PBL triggers in order to better integrate them into the curriculum. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article provides information on the Paper Print Collection which has come from the articles and books of Kemp R. Niver. The collection is one of the longest running preservation projects in archival history and the beginnings of the restoration effort were the impetus leading to the founding of the Library of Congress Motion Picture Division. Today, the Library Congress Motion Picture Conservation Center is working to transfer the material to 35 millimeter film with the sharpest definition that today's technology allows.

This document is an introduction to a special issue of the Interdisciplinary Journal of Problem-based Learning focused on research methodologies for studying problem-based and project-based learning (PBL/PjBL). The authors discuss the unique educational ecosystem in which PBL/PjBL is practiced and the importance of selecting effective research methodologies to evaluate its effects on student learning.
