Thirty-four red kernel rice genotypes along with two check varieties were evaluated across three different locations of Tamil Nadu viz., Coimbatore, Paiyur and Aduthurai during Kharif 2022 to assess the stability of the genotypes for single plant yield. The AMMI and GGE models were used to study the interaction between the genotypes and the environment in order to select the stable genotypes. Significant differences among the genotypes and the environment revealed the existence of variations among the genotypes and also environmental influence over the genotypes for single plant yield. Considering the overall average single plant yield performances, the genotype Rangoon samba recorded the highest single plant yield over the check varieties, while the genotype Karuthakar had the lowest single plant yield. The genotypes G24 (Thooyala), G25 (Kothamalli samba) and G34 (IG74 Check) recorded higher stable single plant yield across locations. Based on AMMI and GGE stability models, these three genotypes were identified to be highly stable over environments with less G x E interaction and these genotypes can be recommended for cultivation across the environments to obtain a higher single plant yield. A study was conducted with 31 genotypes of pearl millet to identify the potential through correlation, path analysis and discriminant function analysis for yield and yield attributing traits at the Department of Millets, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore during Kharif 2019. The top ranking genotypes for single plant yield was Cumbu 2, Kizikuppam local, PT6706, PT6582 and PT6581. High PCV and GCV were recorded for harvest index, single plant yield, biological yield, thousand grain weight, the number of productive tillers and total grains per panicle. The path coefficient analysis revealed that harvest index, biological yield, panicle length and flag leaf length showed a positive high direct effect on grain yield per plant, which can be utilized for the formulation of selection indices. The discriminant function analysis revealed that the maximum genetic gain for grain yield per plant can be obtained by selecting the traits like leaf sheath length, leaf length, flag leaf length, flag leaf width, the number of nodes, panicle length, the number of productive tillers, thousand grain weight, biological yield, harvest index and single plant yield in combination when path direct effect was used as economic weights. Selection criterion score values showed that the genotypes such as Cumbu 2, Kizikuppam local, Nattu Cumbu, PT6705, PT6580, PT6706, Cumbu 1 and PT6067 have outperformed others and can be utilized for further breeding programmes. An experiment on correlation and path analysis involving thirty F1 and six parents of brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) was carried during rabi, 2018 at Horticultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. The genotypic correlation coefficient was higher in magnitude than the corresponding phenotypic correlation coefficient for most of the characters. The fruit yield per plant had exhibited a highly significant and positive correlation with fruit length (0.837) and the number of fruits per plant (0.716). The genetic improvement of fruit yield thus can be obtained by selection for these yield components. Path coefficient analysis revealed that the characters viz., the number of fruits per plant (0.962), days to first harvest (0.922) and fruit girth (0.616) had a high positive direct effect on fruit yield per plant. A study was conducted in the Department of Vegetable Science, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore to assess the performance of 39 monoecious cucumber land races. Number of primary branches were more in the local type Vennamuthupatti local (7.33) and the number of male flowers per plant was minimum in Amaravathi local (38.33). The maximum number of female flowers per plant was recorded in Periyakullappatti local (33.67). Number of fruits per plant was highest in Sankagiri local(11.20). Fruit length ranged from 12.62cm (Musiri local) to 54.83cm (Amaravati local). The fruit girth was lowest in Upilipalayam local (13.2 cm) which produced a slender fruit. An experiment on correlation analysis involving brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) was carried during rabi 2018 at college orchard, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. Genotypic correlation coefficient was similar in nature and higher in magnitude than the corresponding phenotypic correlation coefficient for most of the characters. Total yield per plant exhibited highly significant and positive relationship with length of the fruit and the number of fruits per plant is significantly but negatively correlated with shoot borer infestation. The present study was carried out in the F2 population of the cross OMT 21 A x JLSC 96 of sesame with the objective to assess the genetic variability, character association of yield and yield related traits in sesame. Experimental materials were raised during Kharif season of 2019 at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. Seven biometrical traits viz., days to first flowering, plant height, the number of branches per plant, the number of capsules per plant, the number of seeds per capsule, 1000 seed weight and yield per plant were recorded. The magnitude of PCV and GCV values were higher for the traits yield per plant, the number of branches per plant and the number of capsules per plant. The traits number of branches per plant and 1000 seed weight exhibited a high heritability along with a high genetic advance as per cent of mean. Yield per plant had a significant positive correlation with the number of capsules per plant followed by 1000 seed weight, plant height and the number of branches per plant. Path analysis revealed that the number of capsules per plant had a high positive direct effect on yield per plant. So, the selection based on these traits such as number of capsules per plant, plant height, 1000 seed weight and the number of branches per plant would be advantageous for crop improvement. Studies on variability and association of characters in curry leaf genotypes were carried out with eight genotypes collected around Coimbatore district at HC&RI, Coimbatore during 2017-2019. Significant variability was observed for all the characters recorded in the curry leaf genotypes. Among the characters studied length of the matured shoot (118.90 and 114.95), plant height (66.27 and 51.41) and the number of compound leaf per matured shoot (18.97 and 17.24) recorded the highest phenotypic and genotypic variances respectively. Highest Phenotypic coefficient of variation and genotypic coefficient of variation was recorded for weight of the matured shoot (18.80 and 18.74), the number of matured shoot (15.13 and 14.98), the number of compound leaf per matured shoot (10.74 and 10.49)and fresh leaf yield /plant (10.63 and 10.40) Less variation was noticed between Phenotypic co-efficient of variation and Genotypic co-efficient of variation, which indicates environmental influence was low for all the characters. Number of matured shoots (98.09 and 30.57), Length of matured shoots (96.68 and 19.61), weight of matured shoots (99.27 and 38.46), the number of compound leaves per matured shoot (95.32 and 21.10) and fresh leaf yield per plant (95.86 and 21.01) showed high heritability with high genetic advance. High heritability with high genetic advance as per cent of mean for the character represents selection is effective and this is due to additive gene action. The magnitude of genotypic correlation was higher than the phenotypic correlation for all the traits that indicated inherent association between various characters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
