Privacy is a major concern for breast cancer patients. When patients use mobile health applications (mHealth apps), many sensitive data are handled by the application developers. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) arises as a solution to privacy issues. In this paper, we analyze the privacy policy of a sample of mHealth apps for breast cancer patients, developing a scale to check if GDPR is complied. Despite privacy is a key factor in the adoption of the use of mHealth apps, the low level of compliance with the GDPR of the analyzed applications was quite surprising. Thus, application developers must be concerned about this matter.

Cancer is one of the most prevalent diseases in Europe and the world. Significant correlations between dietary habits and cancer incidence and mortality have been confirmed by the literature. Physical activity habits are also directly implicated in the incidence of cancer. Lifestyle behaviour change may be benefited by using mobile technology to deliver health behaviour interventions. M-Health offers a promising cost-efficient approach to deliver en-masse interventions. Smartphone apps with constructs such as gamification and personalized have shown potential for helping individuals lose weight and maintain healthy lifestyle habits. However, evidence-based content and theory-based strategies have not been incorporated by those apps systematically yet. The aim of the current work is to put the foundations for a methodologically rigorous exploration of wellness/health intervention literature/app landscape towards detailed design specifications for connected health m-apps. In this context, both the overall work plan is described as well as the details for the significant steps of application space and literature space review. Both strategies for research and initial outcomes of it are presented. The expected evidence based design process for patient centered health and wellness interventions is going to be the primary input in the implementation process of upcoming patient centered health/wellness m-health interventions.

Most prostate cancer survivors are confronted with disease-related and treatment-related side effects that impact their quality of life. A tool that combines specific physical activity coaching with the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and self-management guidance might be a successful method to enhance a lifestyle change in these patients. As a prerequisite for useful health technology, it is important to consider a design process centred in the patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the context of the problem and the user needs to support the ideation of a low-fidelity prototype of a tool to promote a healthy lifestyle in survivors of early-stage prostate cancer survivors. A user-centred design approach was followed involving a multidisciplinary team. The prototype was developed in 3 phases. In phase 1, the context was studied with 2 systematic reviews of the state of practice and consulting with 3 specialists in Oncology, resulting in a global use case and main requirements. In phase 2, the needs and barriers of the users were studied based on literature research and validated with 3 specialists, resulting in the creation of 3 personas. In phase 3, 2 sessions were held to ideate and prioritize possible app features, based on brainstorming and selection techniques. Using the Ninja Mock and Proto.io software a low-fidelity prototype was developed, resulting in 25 interactive screens. Understanding the user needs and context seems to be essential to highlight key goals hence facilitating the bridge between ideation of the tool and the intended users tasks and experiences. The conclusion of this first stage of the design process brings valuable details (such as barriers of the users to technology and physical activity) for future iterations of design of the mobile app.

In this paper we present the integration of multimedia contents in the teaching of Digital Electronic Circuits and Computer Structure, of the first course of Computer Engineering at the University of Seville. Different tools for screenshot and video recording have been used for the preparation of audiovisual material, integrated in the learning platform currently used at the University of Seville. Feedback on the prepared material was collected in a survey, showing the interest and utility found by students in the preparation of theoretical and experimental classes with the videos. Successful results have been obtained in the evaluation of students. Suggestions of improvement and further work to be carried out are also described in the paper.

This paper presents a work in progress for the developing of a fingerprint indoor position system based on OpenMAC, an IEEE 802.15.4 embedded software implementation from Atmel to be used in different scenarios like e_health, ambient living or smart building. The system is thought to work as another one that we have yet developed but using the BitCloud Stack, a full-featured, second generation embedded software stack from the same supplier, but improving it. The first steps followed up in the system development are shown in this paper.

This paper presents the development and testing of an open and flexible embedded system applied to positioning and telecontrol (OFESAPO) for outdoor applications. The system is composed of a control center (CC) and a set of remote terminal units (RTUs); the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 60870-5 series has been chosen for communication among them. This is a standard protocol of real-time telecontrol applications. The CC is a personal computer, and the RTUs are based on open hardware and software. The RTU hardware is an embedded system, i.e., a system-on-chip-type design using fieldprogrammable gate array that has been programmed with the open-core LEON running Linux operating system. For prototyping, the GR-XC3S-1500 board has been used. As there is no open source code available for the IEC standard protocols, an open source code has also been implemented. Hence, both the hardware and the software are open source in OFESAPO. Several tests have been made to show the system’s limitations and the suitability for real-time applications. A prototype has also been tested in a real environment, where the real position of two moving RTUs was shown by a CC using Google Map.

This paper presents a proposal of a flexible telemedicine system for remote patient monitoring. It can be used in different kind of environments where there is only available low speed transmission links like Radio Frequency. This proposal includes the use of a previous work where the IEC-60870-S standard was applied to the development of an open and flexible RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) based in open hardware, a SoCtype design using a FPGA programmed with the open core LEON and open source, so both the hardware and the ISO are open source.

In this paper, a signal processing algorithm to detect eye movements is developed. The algorithm works with two kinds of inputs: derivative and amplitude level of electrooculographic signal. Derivative is used to detect signal edges and the amplitude level is used to filter noise. Depending of movement direction, different kinds of events are generated. Events are associated with a movement and its route. A hit rate equal to 94% is reached. This algorithm has been used to implement an application that allows computer control using ocular movement

The telecommunication networks of telecontrol systems in electric utilities have undergone an innovation process. This has removed many of their technical restrictions and made it possible to consider carrying out telecontrol tasks with general standard protocols instead of the specific ones that are used currently. These are defined in the standards 60870-5, 60870-6, and 61850 from the International Electrotechnical Commission, among others. This paper is about the implementation, using the services of general standard protocols, of the telecontrol application functions defined by the standard IEC 60870-5-104. The general protocols used to carry out telecontrol tasks are those used in the Internet: the telecommunication network-management protocol SNMPv3 (simple network management protocol version 3), the clock synchronization protocol network time protocol and Secure SHell. With this new implementation, we have achieved, among others, two important aims: 1) to improve performance and, above all, 2) to solve the serious security problems present in the telecontrol protocols currently being used. These problems were presented by IEEE in an article published in the website of the IEEE Standards Association. In this paper, the use of general standard protocols to perform the telecontrol of electrical networks is justified. The development of this paper—its achievements and conclusions and the tools used—is detailed.

This paper presents an exhaustive study into the different topologies of virtual ambiguous keyboards that operate by scanning techniques, analyzing the text entry average time (tc) and the average number of user inputs (UIc) per character. An mathematical model shows that in comparison with unambiguous one, text entry, in multi-tap mode, doesn’t offers better performance,because both tc and UIc are greater in them. Another method of text entry, called Tnk (Text in n keys), offers improvement with respect to unambiguous keyboards. But solely highly ambiguous keyboard (4-keys keyboards) shows a jointly reduction in tc and UIc . Results obtained with the model do to focus on highly ambiguous keyboard. This paper demonstrate, using simulation with extensive text, that character prediction with TnK mode only have better performance than unambiguous keyboard with character prediction in UIc parameter. Another techniques of text entry are also studied.
