26. Multiphase Bipolar Electret Rotary Generator for Energy Harvesting and Rotation Monitoring.

Abstract

Inspired by an electromagnetic generator containing multi-pole radial ring magnets, we designed a bipolar electret rotatory power generator (e-RPG) with a multi-phase core-shell structure to boost output performance and achieve high-precision self-sensing capabilities. A selectively localized rotary corona discharging method is invented to uniformly inject both positive and negative charges into a single electret’s curved surface. The experimental results show that the output power of the bipolar-charged e-RPG is increased to 384% compared with those of positive or negative charging alone, which is consistent with the results obtained from the theoretical model. By introducing the core-shell-structured multi-phase electrode design, both the rotation direction and speed can be precisely detected. The frequency sensitivity and linearity $\text{R}^{2}$ (coefficient of determination) are up to 3.0 rpm/Hz and 99.9%, respectively. Abstract

A hydroacoustic positioning method based on three-circle intersection presented in this paper is used to locate the underwater measuring units equipped with sensors to measure magnetic and electric field. Due to the existence of controllable and non-controllable error sources such as measurement distance of underwater acoustic and entry depth of the surface positioning device in the positioning process, there is a triangle error area that makes the positioning results not satisfactory. In order to improve the positioning accuracy, the convergence and diffusion law of the triangle error area are studied with data analysis software by setting error ranges of the positioning circle radius and the step size in response to the measured results in sea test. The analysis results show that the optimized positioning method based on the three-circle intersection can well reduce the size of the triangle error area and effectively improve the positioning accuracy.

Abstract

In this work, an all silicon carbide (SiC) series-resonant converter (SRC) design is proposed and demonstrate to achieve a single stage dc-to-dc conversion from 3 kV to 540 V (±270 V) for future electric aircraft applications. The proposed SRC consists of a neutral-point-clamped converter using 3.3-kV SiC MOSFETs on the primary side, an H-bridge converter using 900-V SiC MOSFET on the secondary side and a high-frequency (HF) transformer. The detailed design methods for the SRC power stage and the HF transformer are presented. Especially, a tradeoff between the complexity for the cooling system and the need for high power density and voltage insulation is addressed in the transformer design, leading to a novel multilayer winding structure design to enhance the insulation capability and also the mechanical robustness. The proposed bobbin design is realized using additive manufacturing. The detailed analysis and modeling of the parasitic capacitance between sections introduced by fringe electrical field are presented. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed SRC design, a 25-kW converter prototype using 3.3-kV SiC discrete devices has been developed with a peak efficiency of 99.08% achieved in experimental studies. Abstract

This study presents a design of a 94-GHz high-performance and highly compact frequency-modulated continuous-wave radar sensor. In this sensor, an $X$ -band CMOS-based all-digital phase-locked loop chip, $W$ -band SiGe-based transceiver monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC), and $W$ -band GaN-based MMIC power amplifier (PA) are heterogeneously integrated (HI). Each part of the 130-nm bipolar complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (BiCMOS) SiGe-based transceiver MMIC is designed to include a low-noise amplifier, PA, octupler, mixer, and lange coupler. The fabrication process of our in-house silicon-based MEMS photosensitive composite film is developed to provide very high-density integration and very low insertion loss of interconnections between chips. The HI front end of the radar sensor is measured on-wafer with a high output power of 22 dBm. Moreover, a low double-sideband noise figure (NF) of 10.2 dB is obtained. Bonding–substrate integrated waveguide (SIW)–WG transitions between the heterogeneously integrated front end and the antenna are specially designed and verified. A 2.3-dB degradation is observed, where 19.7 dBm is measured at the transmitter WG WR-10-flange. Thus, the sensor offers a 55-dB dynamic range at a 2-m position with an expectation of a long-distance target-detection range. The radar sensor has an 11.7-cm range resolution and is only $60\times 40\times $ 8 mm3 in size, with a weight of only 78 g. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

As vehicle management system, which consists of a large number of subsystems, is highly integrated, it is hard to find the source of cascading faults. In order to quickly locate fault(s) of vehicle management system to the line replaceable unit(s), this paper takes the actuator control subsystem of vehicle management system as an example. The actuator control subsystem is a three-tier cascade system, containing three vehicle management computers as the primary controller, three actuator controllers as the secondary controller, two ailerons as the lowest level devices. When a comprehensive analysis of performance monitoring built-in test faults was made, associated fault mode libraries were established based on different minimum maintenance units. After using simulation data and real fault data to test the model built by associated fault mode libraries, we applied the associated fault mode libraries to comprehensively diagnose the fault(s) of vehicle management system, and finally found the line replaceable unit(s) that caused the fault(s). The single positioning rate at which fault mode libraries can locate a fault to a single LRU is around 99.895%, and for comprehensive fault diagnosis, we got 100% correct rate. The results show that the method is reliable and effective and provides effective support for enhanced fault diagnosis of vehicle management system.
