Reliable data transport has always been one of central issues in the area of communication networks. In this work, we investigate the possibility of enhancing reliability of selective repeat (SR) automatic repeat request (ARQ) by integrating network coding techniques into it. Through extensive simulation experiments, we analyze packet transport performance, e.g., throughput and delay, against various parameters including network transmission delay, packet loss rate, etc. Based on findings through simulation experiments, we then suggest design and operation guidelines and address harmonizing issues in integrating SR ARQ and network coding.
