We detected keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the tongue using terahertz reflection imaging and reported unexpected characteristics that THz reflection intensity of tumor was low in normal regions.

SIMULTANEOUS functional and anatomical imaging using PET-MR system has been reported to be useful in preclinical research to investigate various in vivo biological processes [1-3]. The purpose of this study was to develop a MR compatible small animal PET insert and to evaluate the performance of the developed PET and the influence of the PET on MRI performance.

We show in this study that nanoparticle composites can be used as contrast agents to enhance the sensitivity of terahertz medical imaging. We measured the dynamics of aqueous biomaterial mixtures using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. The mixtures were divided into water and other electrolyte parts in mass fractions for analysis. The optical constants of the electrolytes, excluding water, were obtained by applying the ideal mixture equation and fitted with the modified double Debye model. We found that the reorientation and hydrogen-bond formation-decomposition times decreased as the electrolyte concentration increased.

Novel multifunctional magnetic polycation drug carriers (MPDCs) were synthesized to provide simultaneous magnetically targeted cancer therapy and diagnosis using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The MPDCs demonstrated ultra-sensitivity via MRI and sufficient magnetic mobility under an external magnetic field. Drug loading efficiency and release kinetics were also investigated to assess the therapeutic potential of the MPDCs.
