7. Federated Learning with Partial Gradients Over-the-Air

Abstract

We develop a theoretical framework to study the training of federated learning models with partial gradients via over-the-air computing. The system consists of an edge server and multiple clients, aiming to collaboratively minimize a global loss function. The clients conduct local training and upload the intermediate parameters (e.g. the gradients) by analog transmissions. Specifically, each client modulates the entries of its local gradient onto a set of common orthogonal waveforms and sends out the signal simultaneously to the edge server; owing to the limited number of orthogonal waveforms, only a subset of the parameters can be selected for uploading during each round of communication. On the server side, it passes the received analog signal to a bank of match filters and obtains a noisy partial gradient vector. The server then uses this partial gradient to update the global parameter and feeds the new model back to all the clients for another round of local training. We derive the convergence rate of such a model training algorithm. We also conduct experiments to investigate the effects of different masking schemes on the convergence performance. Abstract

It is undeniable that the concepts of artificial intelligence and blockchain are spreading at an alarming speed. These two technologies have different degrees of technical complexity and multi-dimensional business meaning. The convergence of artificial intelligence and blockchain holds the promise of creating smarter, safer, efficient, and more secure systems. However, with the surprising development of quantum technology, most existing blockchain systems are vulnerable to quantum attacks. In this paper, we accordingly propose a lattice-based blockchain infrastructure for artificial intelligence with quantum resistant, aiming at tackling the critical issue of throughput, our infrastructure based on lattice-based aggregate signature which can effectively the proportion of signatures in block size. The proposed scheme can be proved secure in random oracle model, and it is also more efficient than similar literatures. In addition, we also give the detailed description of the post-quantum blockchain transaction. Furthermore, this work can help to enrich the research on the future post-quantum blockchain (PQB).

Abstract

This letter proposes a new shield gate (SG) trench MOSFET structure, which utilizes a p-n-doped polysilicon refill as the SG electrode to minimize the total output capacitance or charge. TCAD simulation is carried out to compare the proposed and conventional device structures. It is shown that the proposed structure offers 30% lower \textQ\text {OSS} and 18.2% reduction of inductive switching loss while retaining other attractive characteristics of the SG trench MOSFET.
