Automatic speech recognition is now playing an important role in volume control and adjustment of modern smart speakers. According to the recognition results by using the advanced deep neural network technology, this paper proposes an efficient processing system for automatic volume control (AVC) and limiter. The theoretical analyses, subjective and objective testing results show that the proposed processing system can offer a significant improvement for speech recognition performance during audio playback and improvement for audio playback performance in smart speakers. Driven by input data and audio contents, the proposed AVC is able to adaptively learn and track an effective signal level at the speed corresponding to the width of transient sound; the adaptation is frozen in the case of silence and noise periods. The proposed limiter measures the peaks and can guarantee that no peak will go over the predetermined peak threshold so as to avoid clipping and harmonic distortions.

Atrial fibrillation is a common irregular heart rhythm. Until today there is still a need for research to quantify typical signal characteristics of rotors, which can induce atrial fibrillation. In this work, signal characteristics of a stable and a more unstable rotor in a realistic heart model including fiber orientation were analyzed with the following methods: peak-to-peak amplitude, Hilbert phase, approximate entropy and RS-difference. In this simulation model the stable rotor rotated with a cycle length of 145 ms and stayed in an area of 1.5 mm x 3 mm. Another more unstable rotor with a cycle length of 190 ms moved in an area of 10 mm × 4 mm. In a distance of 2 mm to the rotor tip, the peak-to-peak amplitude decreased significantly, whereas the RS-difference and the approximate entropy were maximal. The rotor center trajectories were detected by phase singularity points determined by the Hilbert transform. We showed that more unstable rotors resulted in more amplitude changes over time and also the cycle length differed more. Furthermore, we presented typical activation time patterns of the Lasso catheter centered at the rotor tip and in different distances to the rotor tip. We suggest that cardiologists use a combination of the described methods to determine a rotor tip position in a more robust manner.

The next-generation enterprise Xeon server processor maximum configuration supports 18 dual-threaded 64b Haswell cores [1], 45MB L3 cache, 4 DDR4-2133MHz memory channels, 40 8GT/s PCIe lanes, and 60 9.6GT/S QPI lanes. The processor has 5.56B transistors on a 31.9mm×20.8mm die in Intel's high-K metal-gate tri-gate 22nm CMOS technology [2] with 11 metal layers and achieves a 33% performance boost, on average, over previous generations [3]. Two additional metal layers enable area optimization and performance improvement. The design supports a wide range of configurations, including thermal design power ranging from 55 to 165W and frequencies ranging from 1.6 to 3.8GHz. Fig. 4.5.1 shows the processor block diagram of the 18 core die. The floorplan allows for core and cache communication via a ring interconnect, as well as the ability to deliver derivative designs with lower core counts. The 4th column in the 18-core die is removed to implement the 12 core chop, and the 3rd column is removed for an 8 core chop. Key architectural innovations include the addition of AVX2 technology, DDR4, and fully integrated voltage regulators (FIVR) [4] that enable per-core p-states and uncore frequency scaling.

For businesses to be competitive, today's product development organizations must deliver a product line -- a portfolio of similar products or systems with variations in features and functions -- rather than just an individual product. As a result, a new generation of innovative Systems and Software Product Line (SPL) engineering approaches has emerged to play an increasingly important role. This tutorial will spotlight how mainstream forces are driving SPL approaches to take a holistic perspective that is deeply integrated into the systems and software engineering lifecycle.

A framework for step-by-step personalization of a computational model of human atria is presented. Beginning with anatomical modeling based on CT or MRI data, next fiber structure is superimposed using a rule-based method. If available, late-enhancement-MRI images can be considered in order to mark fibrotic tissue. A first estimate of individual electrophysiology is gained from BSPM data solving the inverse problem of ECG. A final adjustment of electrophysiology is realized using intracardiac measurements. The framework is applied using several patient data. First clinical application will be computer assisted planning of RF-ablation for treatment of atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation.

The 700mm2 65nm Itanium® processor codenamed Tukwila [1] integrates four cores and a system interface with six QuickPath® interconnect channels and four memory interconnect channels. The large die, shown in Fig. 3.4.6, and high level of integration coupled with process variability present clock-system design challenges in the areas of power consumption and variability compensation that we discuss in this paper. Figure 3.4.1 shows the clock system, which is a cascaded-PLL architecture with an initial filter PLL that receives a 133MHz reference clock. This maiden PLL filters reference-clock jitter and outputs a 133MHz clock to 13 downstream PLLs. Each downstream PLL has a duty-cycle corrector that monitors and corrects the end-of-route duty cycle.

The genesis of HomeAway, Inc. was startup by accretion - eight companies in the web-based vacation home rental market were acquired and merged. The technical solution during the merger and acquisition phase was to assimilate the software functionality of each of the eight companies into a one-size-fits-all application that could be configured with runtime settings to support the look-and-feel of the original eight. When rapid growth and an aggressive business plan pushed the one-size-fits-all approach beyond its limits, HomeAway decisively applied the 3-tiered software product line (SPL) methodology and the gears unified SPL Framework to transition to a software product line practice. This case study explores how HomeAway leveraged the 3-tiered methodology and gears to make their transition, accelerate software development, reduce defect density, lower development overhead, and extend the scalability of its portfolio to better achieve its aggressive business goals - all within 60 days.

This 3x increase in logic circuits per socket presents two major circuit challenges that are addressed in this paper.

A hall of fame serves as a way to recognize distinguished members of a community in a field of endeavor. Those elected to membership in a hall of fame represent the highest achievement in their field, serving as models of what can be achieved and how. Each Software Product Line Conference culminates with a session in which members of the audience nominate systems for induction into the Software Product Line Hall of Fame. These nominations feed discussions about what constitutes excellence and success in product lines. The goal is to improve software product line practice by identifying the best examples in the field. Nominations are acted on by a panel of expert judges, who decide which nominees will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. This development program has been designed specifically to address the shortcomings of current simulation and modeling tools. In particular, although there are 3D gun codes that exist today, their ability to address fine scale features is somewhat limited in 3D due to disparate length scales of certain classes of devices. Additionally, features like advanced emission rules, including thermionic Child's law and comprehensive secondary emission models also need attention. The program specifically targets problems classes including gridded-guns, sheet-beam guns, multi-beam devices, and anisotropic collectors. The presentation provides an overview of the program objectives, the approach to be taken by the development team, and a status of the project.

In a previous study, it was proposed to extend the use of the junction-to-case thermal resistance, R/sub jc/, to nonisothermal packages by defining an appropriately weighted, average surface temperature based on numerically derived 'thermal influence' coefficients for each package surface (or segment) of interest. This expanded R/sub jc/ methodology is applied here to an actual plastic-leaded chip carrier (PLCC) package. Experimental data and the results of an extensive three-dimensional thermal simulation are used to establish the values of 11 sensitivity coefficients, which make it possible to determine the weighted average case temperature. The variations in the sensitivity coefficients and the accuracy of the chip temperature predictions, with the number of data sets used to determine the coefficients, are also examined. >

ARGUS is a three-dimensional, electromagnetic, particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation code that uses a modular code architecture to allow multiple physics modules to share common utilities for grid and structure setup, memory management, disk I/O, differential vector field operators, and diagnostics. The code includes modules for electrostatic and electromagnetic field solutions, electromagnetic eigenvalue problems, and PIC simulation in either a steady-state or a time-dependent algorithm. SAIC and LANL (Accelerator Code Group) are collaborating-to release ARGUS to the U.S. Accelerator community. The code is available, with documentation, both at LANL and at NERSC (LLNL). Applications of ARGUS to waveguide and cavity problems and wake-field calculations are presented. >

An important problem in the design of RF linacs is the coupling between the waveguide that feeds RF power into the accelerator and the cavity through which the beam is being accelerated. The designer needs to know the coupling coefficient, the frequency shift, and the external Q due to the waveguide. In addition, the details of the field geometry in the vicinity of the aperture are important in the design. The simulation code ARGUS has been employed in a collaboration between SAIC and AccSys Technology, Inc. To model the external Q of the drift tube linac (DTL) tanks in the injector of the Superconducting Super-Collider (SSC). (The drift tube linear accelerators are designed and built by AccSys Technology.) As the coupling aperture (iris) size and shape is changed, the coupling factor changes. This paper presents results of numerical simulations produced to aid in determining the optimum iris size for power coupling to the tank. A comparison of the simulation results will be made with results from experimental data. >

The 3D finite-element gun and collector modeling code, MICHELLE, has been under development at SAIC in collaboration with industrial partners and national laboratories. This development program has been designed to address the shortcomings of current beam optics simulation and modeling tools for vacuum electron devices. The program specifically targets problem classes including gridded-guns, sheet-beam guns, multi-beam devices, and anisotropic collectors, with a focus on improved physics models. The code includes both structured and unstructured grid systems for meshing flexibility. Advances have been made in the areas of accurate particle tracking through the mesh and beam emission methods, including new models for thermionic, temperature-limited, Child's law and secondary emission.

The new conformal grid MICHELLE 3D Electron Gun and Collector modeling code has been used in a variety of design modeling efforts to test it s capabilities and show it s robustness. This MICHELLE code specifically addresses shortcomings of beam optics simulation and modeling tools, and targets problem classes including gridded-guns, sheet-beam guns, multi-beam devices, and anisotropic collectors. Additionally, features like improved emission models, including new thermionic, Child's law, and secondary emission models are discussed. As part of this effort, a new, comprehensive secondary emission model has been developed for MICHELLE in order to achieve an accurate beam collection design capability. The basic physics model in the code is based on the equilibrium steady state application of the electrostatic PIC approximation employing both hexahedral and tetrahedral grid systems. The code employs a multiblock architecture, allowing flexibility in gridding and memory use, as well as hardware architecture adaptability. The current version supports a multiblock, conformal, structured, hexahedral grid. The multiblock, unstructured, the tetrahedral version of the code is currently under development. The structure of the code is the following: The code employs a basic infrastructure that handles generic tasks like grid definition and memory management, down to basic utility functions including basic IO, post-processing IO, and vector algebra. New algorithms have been developed and are being implemented for calculation of particle trajectories on finite element grids. The code supports third-party CAD and Gridding tools allowing the user to make use of current in-house software. In addition, a Post Processor has being developed that is tuned for the tasks of modeling and analyzing output for gun and collector simulations. The code allows magnetic field profiles input from ANSOFT s Maxwell 2D/3D, and other similar software.
