1. A Method for Knowledge Representation to Design Intelligent Problems Solver in Mathematics Based on Rela-Ops Model

Abstract

Knowledge-base is a fundamental platform in the architecture of an intelligent system. Relations and operators are popular knowledge in practice knowledge domains. In this paper, we propose a method to represent the model by combining these kinds of knowledge, called the Rela-Ops model. This model includes foundation components consisting of concepts, relations, operators, and inference rules. It is built based on ontology and object-oriented approaches. Besides the structure, each concept of the Rela-Ops model is a class of objects which also have behaviors to solve problems on their own. The processing of algorithms for solving problems on the Rela-Ops model combines the knowledge of relations and operators in the reasoning. Furthermore, we also propose a knowledge model for multiple knowledge domains, in which each sub-domain has the form as the Rela-Ops model. These representation methods have been applied to build knowledge bases of Intelligent Problems Solver (IPS) in mathematics. The knowledge base of 2D-Analytical Geometry in a high-school is built by using the Rela-Ops model, and the knowledge base of Linear Algebra in university is designed by using the model for multiple knowledge domains. The IPS system can automatically solve basic and advanced exercises in respective courses. The reasoning of their solutions is done in a step-by-step approach. It is similar to the solving method by humans. The solutions are also pedagogical and suitable for the learner's level and easy to be used by students studying 2D-Analytical Geometry in high-school and Linear Algebra in university.

Abstract

STEM education is the modern educational method. The knowledge of programming is very important for studying in STEM education, especially in information technology. In this paper, an intelligent search engine for the knowledge of the course about Introduction to Programming is constructed. The knowledge model is organized based on the improved ontology of Rela-model, which represents concepts of the course, relations between those concepts and some inference rules to query the knowledge of programming. Based on this ontology, the problems for querying the knowledge of the course are proposed based on their semantic. The search system has been tested in the real- world by students studying the course. The experimental results are positive for the effectiveness of the system.

Abstract

Nowadays, information technology is applied for teaching and learning in high-school. It is an essential trend for the modern education, especially building intelligent systems to support the learning of mathematics. In the math subjects of Vietnamese high-school, problems about surveying properties of a function are popular in high-school exams. There are some current tools can solve them automatically. However, they only can display the graph of a function; they cannot solve problems about determining the value of a parameter to satisfy some conditions about this function’s properties. In this paper, we will present a method to design an intelligent chatbot for solving problems in this knowledge domain. It plays as an instructor to give some tips and tutor the learner how to solve problems automatically. This program can communicate with the learner through the question-answering process by chatbot. This tutoring of our system simulates the tutoring method of the teacher to the students in practice.

Abstract

Nowadays, the multiple choices test is a popular method to evaluate the knowledge of learners, especially in the national graduation test at mathematics of high-school pupils in Vietnam. However, current programs for the multiple choices training test in mathematics only can generate a test automatically based on parameters about the number of questions, the time, they cannot evaluate the level of the user’s knowledge. These programs cannot diagnosis the content which a user needs to be improved through the testing. In this paper, an intelligent supporting system for multiple choices training test at high-school mathematics is constructed. This system supports pupils training for the national graduation test. It can generate the test automatically with requirements from the user. More than that, this intelligent system also can evaluate the level of users’ knowledge. It can follow the studying of users through their tests and diagnosis the content which they need to be improved through the result of a test. This system has been tested on pupils studying at the high-school.

Abstract

A grand challenge in knowledge representation is building the intelligent systems for Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) Education. In math education, the intelligent problem solver (IPS) must have sufficient knowledge to solve problems automatically, and their solutions are natural, step-by-step and can be understand by the learners. Besides that, Solid geometry is a hardly subject of mathematics to study for the high school studens. In this paper, an IPS in solid geometry is designed. The knowledge base of this system is represented based on Rela-model which is a knowledge model about relation. The inference engine of this system has been also built based on the algorithms to solve problems on objects and model. It shorn solution clearly and step-by-step. This system has been tested on various kinds of solid geometrical exercises in high-school mathematics of Vietnam education.

Abstract

Knowledge-based system is an important component in intelligent systems. Nowadays, there are many knowledge models that have been proposed and applied. However, these methods are not efficient for both executing and using in practical applications. Instead, mathematical approach is an effective method for representing knowledge formally, and this method can be applied to specify real knowledge domains. Besides, knowledge about relations is a popular form of human's knowledge. In this paper, we will present a mathematical approach for representing knowledge about relations. This knowledge model includes concepts, relations and inference rules of knowledge domain. On this model, the algorithms which solve the problems are designed and proved to be effective. Moreover, this knowledge model has been applied to build a knowledge-based system of plane geometry. In specific, a system for automatic solving problems in plane geometry has been designed.
