It can be easy and even fun to sketch humans in different poses. In contrast, creating those same poses on a 3D graphics "mannequin" is comparatively tedious. Yet 3D body poses are necessary for various downstream applications. We seek to preserve the convenience of 2D sketching while giving users of different skill levels the flexibility to accurately and more quickly pose\slash refine a 3D mannequin. At the core of the interactive system, we propose a machine-learning model for inferring the 3D pose of a CG mannequin from sketches of humans drawn in a cylinder-person style. Training such a model is challenging because of artist variability, a lack of sketch training data with corresponding ground truth 3D poses, and the high dimensionality of human pose-space. Our unique approach to synthesizing vector graphics training data underpins our integrated ML-and-kinematics system. We validate the system by tightly coupling it with a user interface, and by performing a user study, in addition to quantitative comparisons., accepted and published at 3DV 2022

The rapidly developing internet infrastructure together with the advances in software technology has enabled the development of cloud-based modern web applications that are much more responsive, flexible, and reliable compared to traditional monolithic applications. Such modern applications require new software design paradigms and architectures. Microservice-based architecture (MSbA), which aims to create small, isolated, loosely-coupled applications that work in cohesion, becoming widespread as one of these approaches. MSbA allows the developed applications to be deployed and maintained separately, as well as scaled on demand. However, there is no de facto method for the analysis and design of systems for these architectures. In this paper, we compared the usefulness of the object-oriented (OO) and event-oriented (EO) approaches for analyzing and designing MS-based systems. More specifically, we performed an exploratory case study to analyze, design, and implement a software application dealing with the ‘application and evaluation process of graduate students at IzTech’. This paper discusses the results of this case study. We observe that the EO approaches have significant advantages with respect to the OO approaches.

Application exceptions are anomalous events occurring within the application. These can be caused by common issues such as simple programming errors; however, they can also originate from the side-effects of a trial-and-error process used in active attacks. Utilising attacker-induced exceptions as a canary for intrusion detection has been demonstrated as a feasible technique for SQL injection detection, but this has not been applied to other types of attacks. This paper proposes an approach to consider attacker-induced application exceptions as attack canaries. The work is part of an ongoing investigation on integrating detective defences into applications through established development practices.

UAVs offer many advantages over manned vehicles and their application area expands in time passes. Particularly, interest in UAVs with rotary wing types is increasing. Increasing interest in these vehicles has spawned many different controller designs. In this study, estimating the pose of the vehicle according to the image features with the help of a single camera mounted on the quadrotor and then positionbased visual servoing, a technique that allows the vehicle to be controlled by using the image features, was used. In this study position-based visual servoing (PBVS); 3D parameter estimates of the vehicle pose were implemented with artificial neural networks.

The demand for more flexible, responsive and reliable software applications and the availability of internet infrastructure to respond to this demand, led to a new generation of cloud-based web applications. As a result, cloud- based distributed web applications working together in a microservice-based architecture has gained popularity. The concept of microservice-based architecture is quite new and software organizations need to transform their culture to develop applications in this fashion. However, there is a lack of research studies in the literature that explores the common practices for the analysis and design of microservices. Thus, we performed a survey to explore the organizational choices on software analysis and design when working with microservices. In this paper, we present the results from Turkey. The results provide a snapshot of the software industry that utilizes microservices and suggests a set of challenges researchers can focus on in the area.

Software applications are subject to an increasing number of attacks, resulting in data breaches and financial damage. Many solutions have been considered to help mitigate these attacks, such as the integration of attack-awareness techniques. In this paper, we propose a taxonomy illustrating how existing attack awareness techniques can be integrated into applications. The visual tracking problem of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with a Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera system is the subject of this article. Given the background of an image acquired by a PTZ-camera system, a border encompassing a moving object is computed relying on optical flow and the histogram of oriented gradients. Deep Learning (DL) algorithms are trained off-line to decide on the existence of a UAV within this border. Particularly, the ResNet-50 model was trained using a collected data set with more than 50,000 registered positive images. Having identified a UAV, a visual servoing scheme is employed to adjust the PTZ-parameters in order for the border of a detected UAV to span as large as possible the cameras Field of View. The advocated servoing scheme is robust enough against the UAVs rapid maneuvers. Experimental studies are offered to highlight the efficiency of the suggested scheme.

In Hall Effect Thrusters (HETs), calculating thrust from several of input parameters is a critical work. In both government and industry, instead of expensive experimental test set-ups, numerical approach is adopted for various reasons. However, electron dynamics and other effects in a HET must be analyzed in detail to reach a fully consistent result. To determine the correct HET for a satellite during the initial sizing phase, a modified thrust equation is constructed to compute thrust value for different discharge voltages and anode mass flow rates. To achieve that aim, first, thrust equation with correction factor is derived by taking into consideration the literature data. Then, that equation is validated with experimental work. Finally, the compatibility with commercial HETs is monitored.

The power produced by photovoltaic (PV) module is directly dependent on solar irradiance. The partial shading occurs when PV modules in the PV array have different solar irradiance levels. This can significantly reduce the output power of the PV array. Many maximum power point tracking (MPPT) methods have been proposed with the aim of extracting maximum power from PV systems. In recent years, wide varieties of optimization methods have become more popular than the conventional methods, particularly in order to achieve global maximum power point (GMPP). The Particle swarm optimization (PSO) evolutionary technique is a proper optimization method for global maximum power point tracking (GMPPT). This paper proposes a modified PSO based algorithm, and the model of the proposed system is built in PSIM and the experimental setup is developed to confirm its effectiveness. The obtained simulation and experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can track accurately the global maximum power point of the PV system. It has high MPPT efficiency and low steady-state oscillations, and particularly shows good performance under non-uniform irradiation conditions.

A SEPIC (single-ended primary inductance converter) DC-DC converter is capable of operating in either step-up or step-down modes; therefore, it is widely used in power electronic applications where output voltage may be above or below the converter input voltage. In this study, a two-phase interleaved SEPIC converter with coupled inductors is designed by considering that operating in continuous conduction mode (CCM), and it is employed in DSP-based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for photovoltaic (PV) system applications. MPPT process is realized the reference voltage (V ref ) generated from MPPT algorithm is directly applied the PI controller. The peak-current-mode controller is implemented to control each inductor current according to reference inductor current obtained from PI controller. The designed system has been examined for sudden solar irradiation and load changes. Experimental results show that the proposed converter is very efficient in the MPPT process and has a fast-dynamic response.

This paper presents the radiation pattern characterization of terahertz photoconductive antennas using a new technique. The proposed technique is implemented using a modified terahertz time domain spectroscopy by applying a full mapping of the THz beam. The proposed method was also compared with analytical methods and numerical solvers. The comparison of the measured results with that of the simulations shows a half-power beam width error of 1.5. and an optical path difference error of 8%. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time terahertz time domain spectroscopy system is used to characterize the radiation pattern of terahertz photoconductive antennas.
