9. On the Hardware Implementation of MRAM Physically Unclonable Function.

Abstract

Intrinsic properties of magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) are exploited for low-power security electronics. The combination of: 1) fast and nonvolatile storage; 2) stochastic nature of subcritical switching; and 3) random variation in the magnetic anisotropy of MTJ make MRAM array ideal for implementing physically unclonable function (PUF). We develop two bit-pattern randomization procedures, one of which can be exercised at wafer level in process line, while the other can be completed in the in-line tester. The procedures generate unpredictable and unclonable bit patterns in a spin-transfer torque (STT)-MRAM array and store them securely in the array. We show the resistance of MTJ is stable through rounds of thermal baking, the readback from the PUF shows no ambiguity from 25 °C to 75 °C. Abstract

We report on a high-peak-power acousto-optically Q-switched Er:Y2O3 ceramic laser operating at room temperature. Stable pulses with a duration of 41–190 ns (FWHM) are generated at approximately 2.7 μm with the repetition rate varying from 0.3 to 10 kHz. The peak power at 0.3-kHz repetition rate is approximately 7.3 kW. An average output power of over 320 mW is generated at a repetition rate of 10 kHz using an output coupler with a transmission of 8%. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

17. Controlled Generation of Bright or Dark Solitons in a Fiber Laser by Intracavity Nonlinear Absorber.

Abstract

We numerically found that an intracavity nonlinear absorber (saturable absorber or reversed saturable absorber) plays a crucial role in the formation of dissipative bright or dark solitons in a fiber laser. The operation of an all-normal-dispersion fiber laser could evolve from a bright-soliton emission state to a black-soliton emission state, purely by changing the intracavity nonlinear absorber from a saturable absorber to an antisaturable absorber. Our simulation results are well supported by the experimental observations. The result suggests a new way to control the dissipative soliton operation of lasers and deepens our understanding of the properties of dissipative solitons. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Abstract

Manipulation of group-velocity-locked vector solitons (GVLVSs) is numerically proposed and experimentally demonstrated. A pseudo-high-order GVLVS could be generated from a fundamental GVLVS with the help of a polarization-resolved system. Specifically, a pseudo-high-order GVLVS with a two-humped pulse along one polarization and a single-humped pulse along the orthogonal polarization could be obtained. Abstract

We report on the first experimental observation of bound states of vector dissipative solitons (VDSs) in an erbium-doped fiber laser mode locked with a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror and operated in the normal dispersion regime. Bound states of either the coherently coupled VDSs or the incoherently coupled VDSs were obtained. No polarization evolution was observed for either of the bound VDSs. Abstract

The nanosecond self-pulsing operation of a midinfrared solid-state laser with no additional passive absorbers is reported in this paper. A proof-of-principle demonstration of the cooperatively enhanced reabsorption method, in which two laser-diode-pumped erbium gain media share the same laser resonator, is proposed. The two excited media act cooperatively to enhance the reabsorption effect and amplify the generated signal pulses. Under the pump power of 3.8 W, pulses with a pulse repetition rate of 6.2 kHz, an average output power of 107 mW, and a single pulsewidth of 185 ns are obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
