This paper presents a method for optimization of costs associated with reliability in radial distribution systems through switch placement using genetic algorithms. An analysis of how the results are impacted by restrictions on the possibilities of allocating switches in one or both ends of each section of the feeder is done. Optimized switch locations are defined to improve restoration and reduce costs associated with reliability. This paper presents a computational method to aid in the synthesis and analysis the protection system in unbalanced distribution networks. The proposed method is based on a genetic algorithm. A method to initialize the population of the genetic algorithm in order to achieve better results is also presented. A graphical user interface was developed to assist in visualizing the results and allowing users to make adjustments to the settings after optimization for better results. This paper shows modelling, studies and analyses of an electrical submersible pump system (ESP) and considers several characteristics of key elements in this system, highlighting system's start-up and also proposing solutions to mitigate some problems by projecting and designing passive power filters. In the study cases, it was considered a medium voltage power system with a 3835HP three phase squirrel cage induction motor which is connected with a centrifugal pump that results in a high inertia coefficient. Rotational friction model is considered in the studies to characterize the peculiarities that occur at the initial seconds of the system's start-up and also to evaluate the performance of the implemented control strategy. In the same way that occurs in real systems, it is considered an open-loop V/Hz control and accomplished a method to estimate and compensate voltage drop that exists between the terminals of the converter and motor input. This paper proposes a new method based on artificial immunological systems for solving the problem of substation allocation in distribution systems. In addition to the allocation of the substation, it is also performed the routing and the sizing of the distribution feeders. The objective of the proposed problem is minimizing the overall planning costs, considering the physical, technical and operational constraints. Some analysis were made to test the method. A multiphase optimal power flow method for limiting unbalances of currents in equipments using reactive compensation is proposed in this paper. This paper describes a new methodology for the fault analysis of a distribution electrical system, in which the phase imbalances, different types of loads, neutral cables, groundings and other inherent characteristics of distribution systems are taken into account. This work presents a new formulation for the power flow problem, with explicit representation of the neutral conductor and grounding. This methodology has been named the four-conductor current injection method (FCIM). The Newton-Raphson method is applied to solve the set of nonlinear current injection equations that are derived using phase coordinates, and the complex variables are written in rectangular form. The proposed algorithm can be used to analyze both balanced and unbalanced systems, meshed or radial, with controls and distributed generation, and is shown to be very efficient and robust for large scale systems.
