Abstract

The mechanism of the isotope exchange reaction proceeding in carbon dioxide in an isotope exchange reactor (IER) is considered. Possible schemes of the given reaction are given. Changes in molecular spectrum of carbon dioxide and distribution of 13С isotope at the inlet and at the outlet of the reactor are shown. Dependence of efficiency of a gas centrifuge (GC) cascade for obtaining highly enriched C13 on IER position for different values of isotope exchange degree is studied. Techniques of calculating a GC cascade for separation of polyisotopic chemical compounds are used. It is shown that the cascade efficiency functional dependence of the place of IER installation is a unimodular convex line which has a maximum. Places of optimal location of one or two IERs in a GC cascade and the values of isotope exchange in them at which more than 99% enrichment in 13С can be achieved are determined.

Abstract

We study the guided modes in the wire medium slab taking into account both the nonlocality and losses in the structure. We show that due to the fact that the wire medium is an extremeley spatially dispersive metamaterial, the effect of nonlocality plays a critical role since it results in coupling between the otherwise orthogonal guided modes. We show that such a structure supports a set of deep subwavelength propagating modes and that it exhibits properties of a single mode waveguide at any fixed frequency which is below the plasma frequency of the wires. We compare our analytical results with the dispersion relations extracted from the experimental measurements.

Abstract

We have performed rigorous dispersion analysis and showed clearly impact of nonlocality on properties of multilayered metal-dielectric metamaterial. The main discovered effect is an appearance of additional extraordinary waves in the metamaterial which leads to the splitting of the TM-polarized beam at the air-metamaterial interface.
