Electrolysis ballast water treatment with effective disinfection effects has been receiving more attentions compared to other methods. Conventional electrolysis ballast water treatment is vulnerable to thermal control and has a disadvantage in size. It is also less flexible due to the all-in-one structure. This paper describes the development of an electrolysis ballast water treatment system using power conversion devices. The power conversion device was developed as a 20kW class module types with very high installation flexibility in order to respond easily to ship structure and demand capacity. This paper explains the electrical characteristics of the applied circuit and the operational principle by simulations and experiments. This paper reports that development cases of charger with various charging functions. The developed charger has functions of temperature compensation charging mode, pulse charging mode, trickle charging control, reverse connecting protection and it can recycle the battery which is the performance degradation by converting charge and discharge mode. In addition, the proposed charger structure is designed as module method consisting of control, charge, and discharge parts so it is excellent in extension and can be set with various modes by control module.
