Ballbots are omnidirectional self-balancing platforms that can be exploited in many applications to detect, track, or interact with objects or humans, such as a service robot. Ballbot will enable mobile robots to stand tall and move elegantly through busy environments. However, maintaining equilibrium through synchronization of motion between the ball and the body of a Ballbot is still an open research problem. This article presents a synchronization control (SC) design, with synchronization and coupling errors for Ballbots to stabilize the body and control ball transfer simultaneously. The proposed SC method is applied to the two 2-D planar models of a Ballbot robot. The dynamic model of the Ballbot is derived, and parameters are identified online using the intelligent particle swarm optimization method. The proposed controller is proven to guarantee asymptotic convergence to zero errors in tracking and synchronization. The stabilizing and transferring problems are investigated through several simulations and experiments by using an actual Ballbot platform. Moreover, the controller performance is compared with an augmented proportional derivative controller and a partial feedback linearization controller. Autodriver algorithm aims to develop a path-following algorithm for autonomous vehicles using road geometry data and vehicle dynamics. In this study, a novel smart Autodriver algorithm is developed according to practical implications utilizing a more realistic vehicle model and consideration of real-time applicability. A ghost-car path-following approach is introduced to define the desired location of the vehicle at every instance during various maneuvers. Key steady-state characteristics of turning vehicles, namely the curvature, yaw rate, and side-slip responses are discussed and used to construct a path-following controller based on the Autodriver algorithm. A feedback control based on Sliding Mode Control (SMC) is also designed and applied to minimize transient errors between the road and the vehicle positions. Finally, simulations are performed to analyze the path-following performance of the proposed scheme compared to a Model Predictive Controller (MPC) as a widely accepted popular method for autonomous vehicles. Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) tests are also performed to investigate real-time applicability of the controllers. A given road can be expressed mathematically in a global (or world) coordinate frame. Following the road can be substituted by following the loci of its curvature center and turning at the right circle of curvature. Considering that a vehicle in motion is always in turn about an instantaneous rotation center relative to the ground, an autonomous vehicle capable of following a given path by coinciding the rotation center of vehicle at every moment on the curvature center of the road could be designed. The dynamic reactions of the vehicle influence its path of motion and make its rotation center to depart from the desired path of the curvature center of the road. Thermal stabilization process of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) is the slowest and the most energy-consuming step in carbon fiber production. As such, in industrial production of carbon fiber, this step is considered as a major bottleneck in the whole process. Stabilization process parameters are usually many in number and highly constrained, leading to high uncertainty. The goal of this paper is to study and analyze the carbon fiber thermal stabilization process through presenting several effective dynamic models for the prediction of the process. The key point with using dynamic models is that using an evolutionary search technique, the heat of reaction can be optimized. The employed components of the study are Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm (LMA)-neural network (LMA-NN), Gauss–Newton (GN)-curve fitting, Taylor polynomial method, and a genetic algorithm. Modeling and simulation is commonly used to improve vehicle performance, to optimize vehicle system design, and to reduce vehicle development time. Vehicle performances can be affected by environmental conditions and driver behavior factors, which are often uncertain and immeasurable. To incorporate the role of environmental conditions in the modeling and simulation of vehicle systems, both real and artificial data are used. Often, real data are unavailable or inadequate for extensive investigations. Hence, it is important to be able to construct artificial environmental data whose characteristics resemble those of the real data for modeling and simulation purposes. However, to produce credible vehicle simulation results, the simulated environment must be realistic and validated using accepted practices. This paper proposes a stochastic model that is capable of creating artificial environmental factors such as road geometry and wind conditions. In addition, road geometric design principles are employed to modify the created road data, making it consistent with the real-road geometry. Two sets of real-road geometry and wind condition data are employed to propose probability models. To justify the distribution goodness of fit, Pearson's chi-square and correlation statistics have been used. Finally, the stochastic models of road geometry and wind conditions (SMRWs) are developed to produce realistic road and wind data.
