This paper proposes an active frequency selective surface (AFSS) with switchable transmission and reflection in dual bands. The AFSS is a multi-layered structure with two metallic layers and three dielectric layers. By controlling the switching states of the PIN diodes placed in the upper and lower metallic layers, we can get reconfigurable performance of the AFSS. The combination of the “ON” and “OFF” states of all the PIN diodes can help to achieve the transition between transmission and reflection in C-band and X-band. The numerical simulation results agree well with the theoretical analysis. The proposed metasurface can find wide range of applications in frequency selective filter and radome.

I/O consolidation is a growing trend in production environments due to increasing complexity in tuning and managing storage systems. A consequence of this trend is the need to serve multiple users and/or workloads simultaneously. It is imperative to ensure that these users are insulated from each other by virtualization in order to meet their specific performance requirements. This paper proposes a new approach based on feedback control loops that can enforce desired relative throughput guarantees via dynamic I/O resource reallocation. Simulation results under various types of competing I/O workloads validate that FBctlr can provide better performance virtualization than previous approaches.

This paper presents a scientific strategy for cycling induced by the functional electrical stimulation. In order to simulate the FES-cycling movement produced by human body, a neuro-musculo-skeletal model containing 16 segments and 186 muscles is developed, which can simulate human movements precisely. This model contains mathematical model of electrically stimulated skeletal muscles. Having known the kinematics and dynamics of the model, we design an FES-cycling control system based on the central pattern generator (CPG), which can produce rhythm stimulus to produce desired torque and generate rhythm cycling movements. And an approach to control multiple muscles is proposed. In the end of this paper, the simulation results are provided.

This paper details the design, production, and programming methodology of a multiple-function robotic arm. All of the hardware and software of this robotic arm were designed and produced by the authors. This robotic arm won the championship of the first competition of HIWIN intelligent robotic arms on Aug. 22, 2008 in Taiwan. The main design goal of this robotic arm was to present the following functions: fancy dancing, weightlifting, Chinese calligraphy, and color classification. Another design goal was to minimize cost and maximize performance. On the other hand, a set of the robotic arms are also applied to show martial arts and play the rock-scissors-paper game with modifying and mimetic hands. The characteristics of the robotic arms include: 1. The shoulder of robotic arm includes a pair of motor structures to enhance the ability to life weight. 2. The stability and accurateness of the robotic arm are optimized for the requirement of high performance throughout the whole structural design. 3. In order to increase the moving ability of the robot, the robotic arm was designed with a four-wheeled transmission structure and track. 4. Two mimetic robotic arms work in concert to present the fancy shows. 5. Five kinds of machine hands were designed to meet the requirements of the six appointed functions.
