The interest to develop low cost passive sensors on objects of various forms led us to adapt technological processes of microelectronics on flexible substrate. Passive components deposited on polymer flexible support such as type PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) or Kapton® (Polyimide) are already well-known for example in Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID), strain gauge, humidity sensor, etc. The use of a very economic and ecological substrate such as paper proves much more interesting and still very little explored. However, the brittleness of this material due to moisture and temperature of use constitutes a major technical challenge taking into consideration its potential application in electronics. To use this type of substrate, we set up different processes allowing the packaging of the substrate to be able to undergo all techniques in microelectronic. This has allowed us afterward to realize various devices like inductive coils, RFID tags or interdigital capacitors, using the microelectronic manufacturing processes. PEDOT:PSS is a conductive polymer that is widely used as electrodes in organic electronic devices. This material can also be used for implementing deformable electrodes in soft substrates for MEMS applications. However, this material being sensitive to several chemicals and water it is difficult to pattern microstructures using standard techniques. Thus, we present several techniques for patterning PEDOT:PSS conductive polymer thin film layers including PDMS Casting, shadow masking and lithography. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

This paper presents a convective thermal accelerometer based on pyroelectric detection. This type of accelerometer uses a central heater to produce an hot air mass acting a as seismic mass. Its displacement is a consequence of the application of an acceleration, measured by two lateral thermal detectors, in our case pyroelectric detectors. The device uses screen printing technology for the deposition of electrodes and active material on two different substrate materials. One has been fabricated on alumina substrate with traditional cermet thick-film technology and the other one on a flexible organic substrate with new polymer pastes. This paper describes the manufacturing and poling process as well as characterizations of the pyroelectric elements. A comparison of the performance of both accelerometers is finally given.
