This research analyzes an approach to increase the radio link contact time of telemetry and telecommand data of low orbit satellites based on the data relay systems through Inmarsat-F4 GEO satellites constellation. For practical purposes, the orbital dynamics between a LEO and GEO satellites using TLE orbital parameters of the SAOCOM 1A satellite and Inmarsat-F4 constellation has been used. The results obtained allow us to determinate the radiation pattern characteristics that must be fulfilled by the proposed antenna. On the other hand, the link budget calculations shows that we could use an low gain antenna. In this way, an Conical Quadrifilar Helix Antenna with hemispherical radiation pattern in elevation angle, and omnidirectional in azimuth angle with Right Hand Circular Polarization (RHCP) has been designed. The main electrical parameters obtained are: HPBW: 198°, Axial Ratio (AR) lower 3dB with theta: −90° to 90°. |S 11 |: -40dB@1.61Ghz. Bandwidth: 239 MHz.
