1. Validation of stepwise refinement with test cases generated from formal specification

Abstract

In software development, there is a problem that development cost increases by back track when bugs which are included in the phase of requirement definition are found in the after phases. As an effective method to solve the problem, we have a method with a formal specification language for requirement. A formal specification language can describe the functional requirement exactly with mathematical in and verifies the specification with tools. In formal method, we change the specification in a formal specification to executable program with stepwise refinement. At stepwise refinement step, we find bugs by proof of the specification. Herewith, we can get the program of the high level reliability. But, it is expensive to develop with proof. There is a method to verify specification with test cases generated by manpower. But, there are possibilities of including bugs in specification because of generating by manpower. We propose the method to validate stepwise refinement with lightweight method. We generate test cases from formal specification in VDM-SL before refinement, and test the specification after refinement. With this validation method, it is possible to validate of refinement focused state transition model. We implemented test case generator tool whose test case is executed with VDMUnit and VDMTools. We can confirm the availability of the validation of refinement with test case generator tool we implemented.

6. Design and analysis of a cantilever biosensor based on a boron nitride nanotube

Abstract

In this paper, we introduce a single-walled boron nitride nanotube (SWBNNT)-based cantilever biosensor, and investigate its bending deformation. The BNNT-based cantilever is modelled by accounting that the surface of the cantilever beam is coated with the antibody molecule. We have considered two main approaches for the mechanical deformation of the BNNT beam. The first one is differential surface stress produced by the binding of biomolecules onto its surface, and the second one is the charge released from the biomolecular interaction. In addition, other parameters including length of beam, variation of beam’s location and chiralities of the BNNT have been taken into consideration to design the cantilever biosensor. The computed results are in good agreement with the well known electrostatic equations that govern the deformation of the cantilever.

10. SIMPEL: An innovative web application interface supporting online course management system.

Abstract

A web application interface using the web service technology is required for enabling the interaction of various web applications on different platforms. This work describes a web application interface (called SIMPEL), developed to integrate the MOODLE (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment) with an academic information system. The SIMPEL benefit goes beyond the mere creating synchronization between academic data and teaching/learning resource. It improves several functionalities which are lacking in the MOODLE such as the capability to use the most of input from the academic information system, presenting the sequence of activities and providing the facility to design different activities to different group of students. In this work, Model Driven Architecture (MDA) and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) are combined as an approach to develop the SIMPEL. The implemented SIMPEL is analyzed in the teaching/learning activities at Department of Electrical Engineering University of Lampung (Unila) during the trial period and the result showed that SIMPEL can properly perform its functionalities to guide students and teachers in their activities.
