The converter transformer epoxy impregnated paper bushing is a multi-media electrical equipment, and the main materials include the internal conductor, the external conductor, transformer oil, SF6 gas, the air inside internal conductor, the main insulation material epoxy impregnated paper, sheath, and fittings. In actual operating, the converter transformer bushing is undertaken by the harmonic current with large number of high harmonics and the temperature distribution of the epoxy impregnated paper converter transformer bushings under actual current waveform needs to be researched. What's more, the temperature distribution of the epoxy impregnated paper converter transformer bushings is affected by several factors and to provide basis for the optimization of bushings it's necessary to research about the impact of these factors on the temperature distribution of the epoxy impregnated paper converter transformer bushings. In this paper, on the basis of our previous paper [8], the 3-D temperature distribution of the 400 kV epoxy impregnated paper converter transformer bushing under actual current waveform with large number of harmonics has been simulated by using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element method (FEM) analysis. The temperature distribution regularity of the 400 kV converter transformer bushing under different influencing factors has been computed and analyzed. The dissipation structure of the bushing has been optimized and the DC steady-state electric field distribution of the 400 kV converter transformer bushing has been obtained considering the temperature gradient in epoxy impregnated paper. The influence of nonuniform aging has not been considered in the prediction of the frequency domain spectroscopy (FDS) of the transformer oil-paper insulation (OPI) when using the finite element method (FEM). Given this issue, the modified simulation model was constructed based on the XY model and FEM. In the current work, the dielectric response property of the pressboards with different aging conditions in the modified model was characterized by its dielectric response parameters measured in the lab. Then the modified simulation model constructed in a 3-D system would be applied to study the effect of both nonuniform aging and the axial geometry on the FDS of OPI. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed models was verified by comparing the measured FDS and the predicted FDS. This paper proposed a simulation method for the charge transport in single-layer oil-paper insulation. The method of transient upstream finite-element method (FEM) is derived in order to calculate the time variation of charge densities in medium. The numerical simulation of charge transport in the single-layer oil-paper insulation is realized by applying the transient upstream FEM to the transport equations of bipolar charges. With reasonable microparameter, the charge transport in an experimental object is simulated. The simulation results are consistent with the experimental data. A bent model of oil-paper insulation is analyzed to study the charge distribution under the actual condition. The iso-margin method based on the classical analytical equations is widely used in the development of extra high voltage (EHV) bushing. Therefore, its effectiveness and feasibility have been fully validated. However, with the theoretical formula, it is difficult to evaluate the influence of stray capacitance and temperature on the internal electric stress of the ultra high voltage (UHV) bushing. It?s necessary to further improve the traditional iso-margin method. Firstly, the basic principle of iso-margin method has been briefly described. After that, the E-field distribution of condenser bushing was investigated on the Finite Element Method (FEM) computing platform. Then, the mathematical model of the advanced equal margin design method was established. Furthermore, this paper presents the program flow of optimization which combines the simulation of electro-thermal coupling process and the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The proposed methodology was applied to the design of the prototype of the UHV resin impregnated paper (RIP) oil-SF6 bushing, which realizes the uniform axial E-field distribution of the bushing condenser. Meanwhile, the partial discharge margin between adjacent foils can be equal. Moreover, the hot-spot temperature is lower than the operation limiting temperature of the RIP material. The bushing condenser was fabricated according to the optimal structure design. The prototype of bushing has passed through all the type tests. In this paper, the FEM electro-thermal coupling simulation and the advanced equal margin design method were applied to the inner insulation structure optimization of the UHV RIP oil-SF6 bushing. This paper employs an overhang structure for axial flux permanent magnet motor to enhance the torque density. However, the overhang structure requires a computationally expensive 3-D finite-element method (FEM) for analysis, because a quasi-3-D FEM cannot be applied to such a geometry. Thus, in order to reduce the computational cost of above-mentioned topology, this paper adopts a field reconstruction method (FRM). The conventional FRM is applicable only in the case, where the slot pitch to teeth length ratio is the same along radial direction. To address this problem, we introduce a virtual air gap concept so that it can take into account parallel slot effect as well as overhang effect. The coplanar capacitive sensing method is considered a relatively novel electromagnetic technique in NDT. The size of the electrodes and the separation distance between them significantly affect the penetration depth, electric field strength, and sensitivity of the measurement. To achieve different penetration depths and electric field strengths, separate sensors with various sizes $/$ separations can be employed which is time-consuming. In order to reduce the costs and time, a multi-electrode sensor is designed and introduced in this paper. This type of sensor uses coplanar electrodes to generate the multiple fringing electric field to inspect the specimen. In this sensor, it is possible to have multiple driving and sensing electrodes at the same time, which provides a variety of different sizes and separation distances leading to various depths of penetration and electric field strengths. In the framework of this paper, the principle of the multi-electrode coplanar capacitive probe was explained. A 3D Finite Element Modelling (FEM) was employed to simulate and illustrate the electric field distribution from a multi-electrode coplanar capacitive sensor with different arrangements of driving and sensing electrodes, and how this field may be altered by changing the arrangement. The multi-electrode probe was manufactured and several sets of experiments were conducted under various conditions. The Measurement Sensitivity Distribution (MSD) was applied to characterise and interpret the variable output from the physical scan of the specimen. This paper focuses on the electromagnetic vibration and its reduction in PM brush dc motors. First, the air gap flux density distribution and the radial force density distribution are derived in detail, and compared with the results of the finite element method. Next, two types of vibration sources, called pulsating force and bending moment, are analyzed. Then, two passive improvement methods, called varied PM pole width in axial direction and copper ring, are proposed to reduce the magnetic forces and their vibration, and their principles of the vibration reduction are described in detail. For further explanation, a rotor-skewed motor is used for comparison, and the radial force on the motor is discussed and the influence of four different thicknesses of copper ring on the motor vibration is analyzed. The wirelessly transferred power as well as charging efficiency will significantly drop due to the large misalignment between the transmitting coil and receiving coil for roadway electric vehicles (EVs). A low-cost and reliable misalignment-tolerant wireless charging technique is indispensable for the rapid commercialization of wireless EV charging. This paper presents a technique to achieve the misalignment-tolerant wireless charging for the dynamic wireless charging (DWC) system by means of a tunneling magnetoresistive (TMR) sensor array as well as the easy-to-fabricate receiving coils. The TMR sensor array provides the coil-misalignment position by measuring the magnetic field component generated from the transmitting coil. The corresponding receiving coils are selected to be in resonance according to the measured coil-misalignment positions. In this paper, a sensor array composed of 29 uniaxial TMR sensors was utilized to measure the magnetic field component. This effectiveness of the proposed technique has been validated by both the finite-element method (FEM) simulations and laboratory experiments. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed misalignment-tolerant wireless charging system can operate in a relatively wide misalignment range of ±120 mm with charging efficiency higher than 76.2%. In this paper, the design of the concentrated flux-type synchronous motor (CFSM) using ferrite permanent magnets to improve torque is proposed for an automotive chassis actuator. The thin pancake type CFSM of this paper has considerable axial magnetic leakage flux due to structural reasons. It is, therefore, necessary to improve the torque. In order to meet the required specifications in a constrained installation space, this paper proposes two methods for torque improvement. The first method is the alternate-stacking core as this structure removes the magnetic leakage flux path. The second method is the rotor overhang that increases the air-gap flux density. Furthermore, the structures require a three-dimensional (3-D) finite element method (FEM) analysis for accuracy. However, to analyze the characteristics easily and quickly, the 3-D structure is made into the equivalent 2-D FEM through an analytical method using an equivalent magnetic circuit. As part of the ongoing China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) studies, this work focused on the study of the electromagnetic (EM) loads distribution on inboard (IB) and outboard (OB) blanket vertical segments. In this paper, a major central disruption scenario with a 36-ms linear current quench was performed in the ANSYS finite element software. EM forces and moments, both on the single module and the complete blanket segment, were calculated for the updated helium-cooled ceramic breeder (HCCB) blanket. Furthermore, the effect of EM loads with respect to poloidal segmentations on the back plate (BP) was studied. Results show that the EM forces and moments in the IB blanket barely changed, but in the OB blanket, great changes occurred. With poloidal segmentations increasing, EM forces loads on the BP will be reduced. Tubular-switched reluctance linear launcher (TSRLL) with novel structure is proposed in this paper. The structure of switched reluctance motor is simplified, and the unbalanced force of common types of switched reluctance linear launcher is alleviated in TSRLL. The structure of the single-phase TSRLL with transverse flux is introduced thoroughly. The 3-D finite-element (FE) model of the proposed TSRLL is constructed, and electromagnetic analysis is performed by the FE method (FEM). To improve the electromagnetic force of the proposed launcher, the sensitivity analysis is conducted by means of 3-D FEM. The stator yoke thickness, mover cylinder’s thickness, stator pole arc, and pole width ratio of TSRLL are optimized, and the results of the sensitivity analyses are presented. TSRLL with two different polarity distribution patterns is compared via static FE analysis. The dynamic simulation of TSRLL with optimal specification and polarity distribution is carried out and demonstrated, of which the results agree well with the static analysis by FEM. This paper presents a generalized analytical expression for directivity of phased array antennas (PAAs). It includes important design consideration of PAAs such as arbitrary element type and array geometry, complex excitations, mutual coupling, scan angle, and embedded element pattern. We also present an approximate expression of directivity, helpful for quick analysis of large PAAs overcoming computing time constraints of analytical expressions. It provides a quick PAA design tool for predicting accurate locations of blind spots in desired scan volume due to the chosen array geometry. In this paper, the finite-element method (FEM) is applied for an exact solution of the dispersion of hybrid electromagnetic waves excited in a novel combined elliptical waveguide. This special configuration is included of an elliptical metallic waveguide filled with a dielectric material, whereas two axial hollows with circular cross section have been created in it. A hollow is placed in one of focuses of the elliptical waveguide and second hollow is located in another focus or shifted from it. Two straight relativistic electron beams with the same currents and velocities in opposite directions are injected inside the hollows. Here, we apply an accurate approach in which the electromagnetic fields described by the FEM and satisfies boundary conditions at the interfaces of different regions. Then, the time growth rate of slow waves amplified by the electron beam is numerically calculated. The excited waves are in microwave range. The effects of accelerating voltage and current density of electron beams, and geometrical parameters such as radius and location of electron beam, on the frequency spectra, the growth rate, and profiles of axial electric and magnetic fields of excited slow waves are studied. Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) response predicting is important for defect estimation. This paper first proposes a concept of basic signal by discovering the combination property of the MFL response. The basic signal can be used to predict the MFL response conveniently by a basic signal combination method (BSCM), which is also innovatively put forward in this paper. In this method, the basic signal is calculated in advance, and the MFL response can be calculated by several transformation and combination operations. Both the simulation and experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of BSCM. Forced ventilated underground installations are challenging to design due to the complex mathematics of turbulent fluid flow. Previous methods have tackled this problem, but only recently, the effect of confinement on a single cable has been considered. In this paper, the effect of cable confinement on the practical case of ventilated trefoil installations is investigated. The complete Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) problem is solved using Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations and then validated by laboratory experiments using pipes. FEM simulations are then used to vary the current, the wind velocity, and the distance of the trefoil from the tunnel wall to get a comprehensive picture of the phenomena. This data is used to create a new empirical equation for the Nusselt number for a wide range of operating conditions. The principle of similitude is validated for a scaled-down model of a large tunnel and then used to analyze the thermal rating of tunnels. The new equation improves the IEC standard equations by accounting for the effect of cable confinement on trefoil installations. An important finding of this paper is that a lower maximum permissible current rating is obtained, which if ignored can present a serious risk for thermal damage. This paper presents models developed through analytical or numerical computation and finite-element analysis to improve the resolution of a new kind of vibrating magnetometers. This peculiar magnetometer uses the piezoelectric transduction to actuate a quartz resonator at its resonance frequency taking advantage of the high $Q$ factor of a quartz resonator to achieve high resolution. The magnetic sensitive element is a thin ferromagnetic film of nickel–cobalt, which is sputtered on the moving beams of the resonator. This magnetic thin film applies a periodic torque on the resonator, shifting its resonance frequency. This torque depends on the magnetic field applied; therefore, the value of the magnetic field can be deduced from the frequency shift measurement. The aim of this paper is to develop and improve sensitivity models, which will be useful tools in the future work to establish the optimal geometry for a resonator and the best position of the magnetic thin film on it in order to improve the sensitivity and resolution of the global sensor. In this paper, the transient experimental validation of the convolution-based fast thermal model (FTM) for 3-D integrated circuits is presented. The methodology is proven to be applicable to analyze the temperature evolution of real devices. A low-power package configuration with two different power dissipation scenarios, hotspot (HS) in the corner and HS in the center of the active region, has been considered for the validation. In this way, the importance of the package thermal impact on the definition of the final temperature profiles is highlighted. The error between the measurement and the FTM results remains always below 2.3 °C/W. Moreover, the model has been validated with respect to case studies concerning duty cycles of different durations. This proves the applicability of the model in defining the allowed duration of the chip activity before a maximum threshold temperature is reached. Finally, in this paper, the possibility to use a variable time-step approach in the transient FTM is presented together with the option of computing the temperature in individual points only. Optical current transducers (OCTs) have clear advantages over conventional current transformers. To better understand the OCT performance, a basic OCT model is developed using finite-element analysis. To model an open-core OCT, the Faraday rotation and detection is implemented in the COMSOL Multiphysics. This paper introduces two experimental setups, which can be used for studying OCT performances under ac and dc excitations. The measured data agree with simulation results and validate the proposed model. Light field (LF) cameras, which can record real-word scenes from multiple viewpoints in a single shot, are widely used in 3D reconstruction, re-focusing, and virtual reality etc. However, the inherent trade-off between spatial resolution and angular resolution of LF images hinders their applications for scenarios requiring high resolutions. In this paper, we propose a novel intra-inter view interaction network for LF image super-resolution, termed as LF-IINet, to exploit the correlations among all views and simultaneously preserve the parallax structure of LF views. The proposed LF-IINet consists of two parallel branches. Specifically, the top branch extracts global inter-view information, and the bottom branch first independently maps each view to deep representations and then models the correlations among all intra-view features via proposed multi-view context block (MCB). The two branches interact with each other by proposed inter-assist-intra feature updating module (IntraFUM, where the intra feature are updated with the assistance of the inter feature) and intra-assist-inter feature updating module (InterFUM, where the inter feature are updated with the assistance of the intra feature). In this way, our LF-IINet incorporates rich angular and spatial information for LF image super-resolution. Extensive comparison with state-of-the-art methods demonstrates that our method achieves superior performance visually and quantitatively. With the continuous iteration of information technology, information presents an explosive development trend, so how to effectively classify, retrieve, and summarize information is very important. Data classification and mining technology as the key technology to solve the aforementioned problems is of great significance. At present, in the fields of data processing, information classification and machine learning reinforcement learning, it is usually based on the learning automata, but the traditional learning automata algorithm cannot meet the development of information technology in terms of convergence and learning rate. In order to improve the convergence stability and learning efficiency of the learning automata algorithm in random environment and enhance its learning ability in dealing with large-scale space and action, this paper innovatively proposes an adaptive fuzzy reinforcement learning model of the learning automata, which makes full use of the randomness of gradient information to solve its stability problem, and abandons the original reinforcement learning method. For the linear function, an adaptive fuzzy numerical superposition algorithm is used to further enhance its learning rate and improve its stability. The experimental results show that the proposed learning automata fuzzy reinforcement learning model has practical application value, and can solve the problems of unstable convergence and poor learning efficiency of the current learning automata. Force sensing is increasingly demanded in modern industrial and information systems for executing intelligent operations. This paper presents a lattice-structure-based force sensing mechanism (LFSM) to meet the requirements of high-precision force measurements, and dynamic force tracking and control. Compared with traditional elastic sensing elements—and especially with bulk elements—LFSM exhibits an enhanced flexibility and maintains an improved dynamic response and a compact size. Particularly, the evenly low-stress distribution during force sensing enables the high linearity of LFSM in the elastic range. Based on the developed mechanism, comprehensive theoretical models of the sensitivity, natural frequency, and sensing range, were established and validated using finite element simulations. Five LFSMs were designed and fabricated with different construction orders, orientation angles, and thickness values. The high consistency in sensitivity tests with theoretical analyses confirms the effectiveness of the design and modeling methodologies. Experiments confirm that the developed LFSM can achieve high-performance in force sensing and exhibits a capability for dynamic force control. This paper presents a fast analytical model for estimating the components of the PM flux density distribution in the air-gap for a number of interior permanent magnet synchronous machines (IPMSMs). Deriving the two-dimensional (2-D) analytical model for IPMSMs is more challenging compared to that of surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous machines (SPMSMs) due to the inconsistent geometry of the rotor in polar coordinates. IPMSMs are usually modeled by using 0-D or 1-D methods such as the magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC); however, the MEC method is unable to take into account the tangential component of the magnetic flux density vector. In this paper, a 2-D analytical no-load electromagnetic model for five rotor topologies of IPMSMs is proposed. The effects of the stator slots on the radial component of the PM flux density distribution in the air-gap are then included by defining an air-gap function. The effects of the stator slots on the tangential components of the PM flux density distribution in the air-gap are also considered by injecting virtual surface currents (VSCs) or virtual permanent magnets (VPMs). Magnetic gears can perform the same function as mechanical gears with the added benefits inherent to contactless power transfer. However, quick and accurate analysis tools are required for magnetic gears to reach their full potential. As end effects can significantly impact the slip torque of a magnetic gear, 2D models often overestimate the slip torques, so 3D models are frequently required. Therefore, this paper proposes a 3D linear Magnetic Equivalent Circuit (MEC) or reluctance network model of radial flux magnetic gears with surface mounted magnets. This is an extension of a previously developed 2D MEC model, and, like the previous 2D model, it is thoroughly parametrized so that it can be directly applied to a wide range of parametric cases. This is Part I of a two-part paper and focuses on the implementation of the 3D MEC model. The degradation of the electrical contact in a gas insulated switchgear (GIS) is closely related to overheating at the contact. However, the disconnector contact is one of the hot contacts in GIS. Therefore, in this paper, the finite element method was used to solve the three-dimensional multiphysics coupling temperature rise field and flow field in the Single Phase in One Tank (SPIOT) type GIS disconnector under different operating conditions. From the perspective of temperature rise field and flow field, this paper analyzed the temperature rise characteristics under different working conditions and explored the feasibility of the direct application of air, CO2 and C4F7N/CO2 mixed gas to an electrical device. The disconnector temperature rise experiment platform was then built to verify the simulation. The results showed that the temperature rise field and the flow field distribution were similar in four gas environments. SF6 gas had the smallest temperature rise, followed by C4F7N/CO2 mixed gas, and the temperature rise of CO2 and air was relatively large. Therefore, from the perspective of the temperature rise field and flow field, it was feasible to directly apply C4F7N/CO2 mixed gas to an electrical device in order to meet insulation requirements. Slip detection, especially incipient slip, plays a very important role in achieving stable robot grasp, whereas the fine and reliable measurement of incipient slip has not been well addressed. In this paper, we propose a novel incipient slip detection method based on contact distribution force and deformation information using vision-based tactile sensor, which has the advantages of clear physical meaning, rich measurement information and high robustness. This paper firstly reveals the mechanism of slip generation from the perspective of force equilibrium, and gives a vector expression for slip calculation. Then a method is proposed to determine the stick-center region based on the analysis of distribution force. The relative rigid body motion between the sensor and the object can be further calculated using the deformation of the tactile sensor in this region. Finally, the incipient slip is obtained by subtracting the rigid body displacement from the deformation field. Based on the slip field information, this paper further proposes a criterion for determining the stick/slip region and evaluating the degree of incipient slippage. With the help of finite element method, a complex contact condition with both tangential force and torque between the sensor and the objects having different surface morphologies is constructed. The results demonstrate the accuracy and applicability of the proposed slip detection method. Furthermore, by developing a slip detection experimental setup, which captures the true slip field through an external camera for the first time, the validity of the proposed slip detection method is directly and quantitatively verified. For the advantages of oriented silicon steel sheet (OSSS) with better magnetic permeability in the rolling direction, this paper proposes a permanent magnet (PM) torque motor with armature teeth made by OSSS. This paper introduces the influence of unequal tooth width on the winding factor and the width calculation method of the armature teeth tip top, and analyzes the torque performance improvement by OSSS. In the end, based on testing the B-H waves of OSSS, the flux linkage, back electromotive force, rated torque and overload torque of three motors with different structure or material are compared by finite element software. Offshore wind farms pose the challenge of transmission of produced energy in an economic and effective way over long distances, justifying investments in High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems. A solution to surmount the need for an expensive and large power transformer station is to connect each wind turbine to a DC/DC converter in which a Medium Frequency Transformer (MFT) is utilized to reduce the size of the station. Further, the DC outputs of the converters of the wind turbines can be connected in series to create a high DC voltage. In this solution, the MFTs are required to be insulated against a high DC voltage to ground in a limited compartment. This contribution presents a prototype of a 50 kW oil-paper insulated MFT operating at biased 422/4500 V/V AC 5 kHz and 125 kV DC test voltage, which has been manufactured and subjected to verification HV tests. The ITER plasma position reflectometry system will be used to estimate the distance between the position of the magnetic separatrix and the first wall at four predefined locations, complementing the magnetic diagnostics system. The antennas of the system studied in this paper are to be installed between the blanket shield modules of rows 3 and 4, on the high-field side of the tokamak. As the antennas and part of the corresponding waveguides will be directly exposed to the plasma, they will be subjected to high radiation doses from neutrons and gammas, which may cause irradiation-induced changes in the material properties and compromise the integrity of the components. In this paper, the Monte Carlo simulation code MCNP6 and the most up-to-date ITER reference neutronics model were used to estimate the thermal loads in the system. The results, complemented with a finite-element analysis performed with ANSYS Mechanical, show that the nuclear heat loads, combined with the thermal radiation coming from the plasma, translate into operation temperatures that reach 480 °C at the tips of the antennas, slightly above the maximum recommended temperature of operation of stainless steel for ITER in-vessel components under irradiation (450 °C). This paper addresses an efficient way of conversion of ambient vibrational energy to electrical by structure optimization of piezoelectric film. Polyvinylidene fluoride has been used for this study. The effects of shape variations of cantilever beam with multilayer configuration based on Euler–Bernoulli theorem without considering the proof mass attached at the free end has been investigated in this paper. Most of piezoelectric vibrational energy harvesters are designed considering the presence of proof mass and in this paper it has been tried to convey the idea, that with the new optimized shape, the cantilever itself can behave as a flexible proof mass for energy enhancement. The possibility of harvesting energy from three different geometries: 1) near edge width quadratic (NEWQ), 2) half quadratic (HQ), and 3) Trapezoidal has been presented. Scanning electron microscopy is used to measure the thickness of the various layers. The NEWQ design shows the best performance in terms of power and resonance frequency ( $\text{f}_{\text {r}}<200~\text {Hz}$ ) compared with the others. Here, the study of the piezo-film models using finite element method simulation software (COMSOL Multiphysics optimization module) and experimental validation are also presented. Using the models, the generation of voltage/power has been analyzed under various excitation frequency and load resistance. Space charge distribution is a valuable indicator of ion flow field and is widely utilized to assess electromagnetic environment for transmission line. The finite-element method (FEM) is widely used to solve this problem. However, Kaptzov assumption in FEM assumes that onset voltage is unchangeable after corona occurs, which does not tally with the actual situation. This paper adopted the finite-element iteration method (FEIM), which uses empirical formula instead of assumptions to calculate the charge density. The surface field intensity is not constant in the empirical formula because the empirical formula takes the effects of space charge on surface field into consideration. So this is more consistent with actual situation. In order to verify the accuracy of the algorithm, sound pulse method is applied to measure the charge density around the conductor in the laboratory. Simulation results show that the charge density obtained in this paper agrees with the data in the experiment, which verifies the validity of the empirical formula for calculation of space charge density. Compared with a method considering Kaptzov assumption, FEIM is closer to the experiment in area around conductor line and near the ground. For the purpose of saving energy resources, it is extremely expected to develop highly efficient electric motors. Different types of permanent magnet (PM) arrangement can significantly affect the performance of the motors. Conventionally, the arrangement of the PMs is determined by designer’s experience. This paper focuses on the optimal design of PM arrangement in PM synchronous motors (PMSMs). We present a general pattern of the PM arrangement in PMSM. By varying the parameters of the general pattern, it can produce different types of PM arrangement in the rotor. The employed approach combines the global optimization method with the finite-element method for solving the optimization of the PM structures. Based on the proposed general pattern and optimization methods, the best PM arrangement in the motor can be automatically determined. In order to reduce computing loading, this paper employs the response surface models for reducing the computing time of objective functions. In this paper, the performance of Variable Reluctance Linear Resolver (VR-L-Resolver) with overlapping and non-overlapping windings is investigated by a novel parametric Magnetic Equivalent Circuit (MEC). The proposed MEC is capable of modeling various VR-L-Resolvers with arbitrary geometry and adjustable accuracy by changing the number of considered flux tubes. This technique is more suitable for modeling, analysis, and optimizing of the mentioned resolvers thanks to its flexibility and shorter processing time compared to the Finite Element Method (FEM). Moreover, it has the potential to model both healthy and faulty conditions by a unique model. Therefore, the resolver with two windings configurations under healthy and faulty cases are analyzed in this paper to study their performance. In faulty case, the inter-turn and asymmetrical air-gap faults are considered, and the position error is calculated for both cases. Finally, the MEC results are validated by 2D-FEM and experimental results to show the effectiveness of the proposed model. This paper presents a new structure of Permanent Magnet Flux-Switching Linear Motor (PM-FSLM) with a simple low weight modular primary and acceptable thrust ripple production. A flexible Magnetic Equivalent Circuit (MEC) is applied for modeling the proposed machine, which is capable to analyze the performance of different structures of PM-FSLMs. The saturation and end-effect phenomena are considered by a nonlinear permeability function and virtual zones at both ends of the machine, respectively. The machine operation under dynamic load is also investigated and its specifications are obtained. The proposed PM-FSLM has more power capability, lower current un-symmetry, and simpler mover structure compared to other ones, which can be mentioned as its benefits. Finally, the results of the proposed method are validated by the Finite Element Method (FEM) to show the effectiveness of the proposed MEC technique in terms of accuracy and processing time. Although Switched Reluctnace Motors have many advantages, vibration is known as their most severe drawback acting as an impediment limiting their widespread use in industrial and domestic applications. Through electromechanical relationships, it is shown that the first-order time derivative of applied phase voltage and second-order time derivative of radial force directly affect the amplitude of generated vibration, especially at the beginning of demagnetization instance. Therefore, a set of criteria is stated in this paper meeting which ensures having low vibration intensity. In this paper, three types of demagnetization voltages are proposed which comprehensively meet the stated criteria. These voltages share the same characteristics contributing to the vibration reduction in Switched Reluctance Motor. Two vital parameters of Synchronous Counter and Coefficient are included in the proposed demagnetization voltages which must be meticulously chosen in order to be effective. Noticeable contribution of the proposed methods to the vibration alleviation is validated through simulation and experimental tests conducted under different working conditions. Although much work has been done and significant progress has been made on partial discharges (PD) measurement and detection techniques, this is not the case for PD modeling. Four types of internal PD modeling, in sequential order from first to last developed, are three-capacitance (abc), induced charge concept (ICC), finite element analysis (FEA), and Multiphysics models. The abc model is too simple to provide an understanding of the physical phenomena affecting PD. In contrast, Multiphysics models are immature. Multiphysics models require a high number of physical parameters that need to be experimentally determined, which is not a trivial task. Moreover, adjusting the physical parameters to achieve a good agreement between simulation results and measurement results for a specific geometry and dimension may not work for other geometries and dimensions. The FEA model, a relatively recent model, and the ICC model, which fall between the abc and Multiphysics models in terms of modeling complexity, can partly explain mechanisms and physical phenomena associated with internal PD. However, to the best of our knowledge, there is only one paper comparing ICC and FEA models for a case study; thus, further research is needed to elucidate various aspects of these two models. In this paper, 1) an improved ICC and a FEA capable of describing phenomena occurring during PD are developed, 2) both developed models are coded and implemented either in MATLAB or in COMSOL Multiphysics linked with MATLAB, and their simulation results are compared and analyzed, and 3) the influence of different parameters including void shape, void size, and void air pressure on PD parameters are studied. This paper proposes a reconstruction algorithm for the geometric shapes of static overhead transmission lines that is based on the spatial coordinate data (obtained by field mapping) and the corresponding inclination data (obtained by attitude sensors). The algorithm takes the piecewise cubic Hermite interpolation function as the basic framework and corrects the aforementioned two types of data based on the “minimum energy principle” of the transmission line system. The introduction of a new energy function in modified energy method (MEM) overcame the shortcomings of conventional energy method (CEM) in fairing strategy, and the new Fairing Criterion made result curves more consistent with the mechanical properties of transmission lines. In the numerical simulation tests, the two energy methods were compared in terms of load type, horizontal span, elevation difference, and anti-disturbance ability, which showed that MEM has a higher reconstruction accuracy (average Euclidean distance is less than 1 cm) and better robustness than CEM. Meanwhile, the key parameters involved in the algorithm were discussed to guide the application in practical engineering. This paper introduces an analytical approach for an effective evaluation of the variation of the magnetic field generated by complex coils due to deformations with respect to the nominal configuration. The coils are described with a set of synthetic design parameters, and the deformations can be described as variations of such parameters. This paper proposes a method to evaluate the derivatives of the magnetic field with respect to the design parameters by splitting them into a magnetic factor and a geometrical factor. A comparison with the classical finite-differences approach is carried out. This paper investigates on a new concept for very-fast transient overvoltages (VFTOs) attenuation in gas-insulated switchgear (GIS). The concept, first introduced by the authors in this paper, involves modification of the GIS disconnector contact system in order to dissipate the VFTO energy in damping elements placed inside the GIS busbar conductor. The concept is an alternative to the state-of-the-art method where magnetic rings are placed in the space between the GIS conductor and the enclosure. The proposed arrangement has no impact on the damping element on the dielectric design of the GIS busbar, and it highly reduces the impact on the GIS thermal design. In this paper the sequence impedances of an existing HVAC insulated cable, protected by a steel reinforced concrete structure, are estimated. The paper aims at investigating if the presence of metallic protective structures significantly affects the sequence impedances of the line. The present analyses are carried out by applying both the multiconductor cell analysis and the finite element method in order to model the HVAC line with and without protective structure. The electromagnetic structure of the resolvers makes them excellent for difficult applications. Among them, axial flux resolvers show better performance against mechanical faults. However, a complicated resolver-to-digital converter (RDC) overshadows the whole system's reliability. Both of the conventional software and hardware decoding methods suffer from deficiencies, such as difficulty to implement, poor performance against electromagnetic noise, expensive equipment, etc. To overcome these challenges any easy-to-implement software-based RDC is suggested in this paper that is used for rotational forth-and-back motions. In fact, instead of the conventional arc-tangent method to extract the position information from sine (SIN) and cosine (COS) signals, three transfer functions are proposed to estimate the position. Tylor's series are used to linearize the transfer functions over the zero position and a transfer function with minimum linearization error over the whole region is selected as opt one. The design process of axial flux resolvers is presented as well. 3-D time-stepping finite element method (FEM) is used to verify the success of the proposed analytical calculations. This paper proposes a new uncertainty quantification framework for power flow (PF) and optimal power flow (OPF) considering the nonlinear correlations of uncertain power injections with limited information. The D-Vine copula is leveraged to capture the nonlinear correlations among uncertain power injections from historical data. This is further integrated with the evidence theory and the reformulated quadratic affine form to obtain PF and OPF results. The D-Vine copula and evidence theory allow one to effectively eliminate the explosive-growth joint focal elements of large-scale power system with large numbers of partial known uncertain power injections, leading to significant reduction of computing time. The reformulated quadratic affine form aims at characterizing the PF and OPF outputs with partially known uncertain power injections in a simple form based on Dempster-Shafer structure, yielding further computational efficiency improvement without the loss of accuracy. Comparison results with other alternatives show that the proposed framework leads to more accurate PF and OPF outcomes while achieving high computational efficiency for large-scale power systems with large numbers of nonlinear correlated power injections in presence of limited information. Sidelnikov sequences, a kind of cyclotomic sequences with many desired properties such as low correlation and variable alphabet sizes, can be employed to construct a polyphase sequence family that has many applications in high-speed data communications. Recently, cyclotomic numbers have been used to investigate the linear complexity of Sidelnikov sequences, mainly about binary ones, although the limitation on the orders of the available cyclotomic numbers makes it difficult. This paper continues to study the linear complexity over $\mathbb {F}_{M}$ of $M$ -ary Sidelnikov sequence of period $q-1$ using Hasse derivative, which implies $q=p^{m}$ , $m\geq 1$ and $M|(q-1)$. The $t$ th Hasse derivative formulas are presented in terms of cyclotomic numbers, and some upper bounds on the linear complexity for $M=2$ and 3 are obtained only with some additional restrictions on $q$. Furthermore, concrete illustrations for several families of these sequences, such as $q\equiv 1\pmod {2}$ and $q\equiv 1\pmod {3}$ , show these upper bounds are tight and reachable; especially for $q=2\times 3^{\lambda }+1 (1\leq \lambda \leq 20)$ , the exact linear complexities over $\mathbb {F}_{3}$ of the ternary Sidelnikov sequences are determined; and it turns out that all the linear complexities of the sequences considered are very close to their periods. This paper presents an analytical model of magnetic field of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with a trapezoidal Halbach permanent magnet array (THPMA). Compared with conventional Halbach array, the shape of each magnet in THPMA is transformed from rectangle to trapezium in polar coordinates. The THPMA is delaminated indefinitely radially and each layer is approximately considered to be a conventional Halbach array. The air-gap magnetic field of each layer is analyzed with the scalar magnetic potential. Then, the air-gap magnetic field of the THPMA is obtained by superposing magnetic fields of all layers. The validity of the analytical model is verified by a finite-element model (FEM). The air-gap flux density is optimized by adjusting the center angle coefficients of the THPMA, and a no-load phase back electromotive force (EMF) with the harmonic distortion rate (THD) of 0.75% is obtained by FEM. Nowadays, many applications are demanding more and more compact, cost effective, and robust electric drives. By using rare earth magnets, it is possible to achieve electrical machines with rather high torque volume ratio, accomplishing this way the compactness requirement. Nevertheless, rare earth permanent magnets are very sensitive to the temperature, so that the risk of being partially demagnetized arises as their working temperature increases. In addition, as it has been seen during the last years, the market of rare earth metals is quite volatile. The price of magnets could rise suddenly, leading to a significant impact on the cost, and so in the competitiveness of permanent magnet machines. Due to this fact, it is essential to reduce the dependency on rare earth market in order to accomplish cost-effective drive solutions. Some key points to face this problem can be to reduce the magnet volume, or to use magnets with worse thermal properties (magnets with less dysprosium). Nevertheless, in both cases, the adopted solution would lead to an increase in the risk of demagnetization, affecting to the robustness of the machine. In this paper, a methodology based on finite element analysis and experimental test is proposed to evaluate the demagnetization risk in permanent magnet machines. By applying this methodology, it is possible to accomplish competitive machine designs, achieving a good tradeoff between cost and robustness. This paper discusses the design and electromagnetic analysis of an induction-type coilgun system with a pulse power module. The voltage, current, force, velocity, acceleration, and efficiency of the coilgun system were analyzed using the finite-element method (FEM). A simplified FEM model was developed for ensuring both accuracy and rapid calculation times. Based on the results of the electromagnetic analysis, the geometry of the coilgun system was defined with the Taguchi method. The coil-type armature was applied for increasing the mutual inductance and projectile force. The electromagnetic analysis results were also compared with the analytical analysis results. The designed coilgun system was found to exhibit high energy efficiency and safety of the system. In this paper, an experimental validation of three-dimension multiconductor cell analysis (MCA) is presented: a measurement campaign has been performed on Capri–Torre Annunziata three-core 29.5 km long submarine cable link. All the theoretical conclusions derived by the authors in a previous paper are now experimentally confirmed and the model is, therefore, validated. Based on the example in this paper, the maximum difference between MCA results and measurements is 7% on the positive sequence resistance at power frequency. A 10% difference occurs in the evaluation of positive sequence reactance. This paper applied the finite-element method (FEM) with topological data structures to the optimization of electrical devices. A generic modifiable graph data structure is built according to the graph-theoretic foundation for these data structures. The employed topological FEM avoids rebuilding of the mesh in traditional FEM method while geometrical variations happen. It is an effective algorithm which can save computer storage and working time when applied to successive optimization. A novel interior permanent magnet linear vernier machine (IPM-LVM) is proposed and analyzed in this paper. Compared to the existing surface-mounted permanent magnet linear vernier machine (SPM-LVM) and the SPM-LVM with Halbach arrays, the proposed machine can offer higher flux density in both the air-gap and armature iron core, which lead to a higher back electric motive force (back EMF) and higher thrust density under the same mover volume and heat capacity. Besides, it is proven that the proposed IPM-LVM also has a lower demagnetization risk compared to the SPM-LVM. Furthermore, in order to reduce the thrust ripple of the proposed machine, the three-sectional structure is adopted in this paper, which makes the proposed IPM-LVM exhibit high thrust density and low thrust ripple at the same time. One of the most widely used installation types of power cables is inside nonmetallic ducts. Ampacity calculations for this type of installations were summarized back in 1957 by Neher and McGrath. The method has been standardized in the IEC 60287 family of standards. It is shown in this paper that there is a noticeable mismatch between the IEC standard calculations for steady-state conditions with experimental tests and finite-element method simulations. After an in-depth investigation, it was found that the source of the discrepancy between reality and the standard is an inaccuracy in the calculation of the heat transfer of the air between the cable surface and the internal duct surface. The standard calculations simplify the problem too much, resulting in relative large errors. A more precise formulation, yet simple enough for computer implementation, is proposed in this paper. The accurate calculation of the steady-state temperature is obtained from first heat transfer principles. This paper presents a disk-spacer damper (DSD), a new damper structure, for reducing disk flutter. Three types of DSD structures, which consist of an aluminum disk spacer having grooves embedded with viscoelastic (VE) films, have been developed in this paper. First, we investigated the material properties of the VE film, such as shear modulus and discrete relaxation spectra, and then carried out numerical analysis of the damping effect using the material properties. Further, we measured the damping effect of each DSD structure and confirmed that the proposed DSD reduces the disk flutter amplitude between the (0,1) mode and the (0,4) mode by 20%–30%.
