Abstract

Chronic diseases have long‐term consequences and can affect individuals' life course. The aim of this study was to create the Polish language version of a questionnaire estimating the impact of the disease on important life decisions‐the major life changing decision profile (MLCDP). The translation of the MLCDP followed international guidelines. The created Polish language version of the questionnaire was administered to 32 nephrology and dermatology ward inpatients. To assess its properties, statistical analysis of the results obtained was conducted. The Polish language version of the MLCDP demonstrated very good internal consistency with a Cronbach α coefficient of 0.84. The questionnaire presented excellent test‐retest reliability, established with a coefficient ICC of 0.97. The Polish language version of MLCDP has shown high internal consistency and reproducibility, and can be used effectively to assess the cumulative impact of the disease by indicating the number of major life decisions affected by chronic disease. Abstract

Introduction: Conventional methods of basal cell carcinomas (BCC) treatment bring many severe side effects, especially, if they are repeated many times. The aim of this study is to present the clinical effectiveness of photodynamic method in the treatment and prevention of BCC relapses on the face and to propose a management algorithm. Methods: In a patient with Gorlin‐Goltz syndrome (NBCCS) lesions on the face were assessed clinically and with photodynamic diagnostics (PDD), initially and in follow‐up every 3 months, for a total of 12 months. Detected BCCs were treated with photodynamic therapy three times every week. Results: In whole follow‐up period no clinical relapses were shown. However, in PDD after 6 month in one irradiated and in one initially clinically clear area red fluorescence indicating atypical foci was observed and irradiated additional one time. Discussion: Photodynamic therapy is not limited by previous treatments, can be repeated without adverse events, heals multiple lesions at once and prevents new ones. Because BCC in NBCCS will occur constantly, the implementation of PDD to control the condition of the skin in long‐term care should be obligatory. We indicate the validity of using the photodynamic diagnostic and therapy, as a medical procedures of choice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

ABSTRACT Folliculotropic mycosis fungoides (MF) is an uncommon subtype of MF which has a more aggressive natural history and is more resistant to treatment than other forms of MF. In this article, an innovative method of treatment is presented. We describe a successful use of topical cytarabine combined with topical carmustine in a patient with a folliculotropic MF. Based on our patient history we suggest this method as an effective therapy option for patients with folliculotropic MF unresponsive to other forms of treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The article offers information on a study which reviewed the related literature data on lipid metabolism abnormalities in psoriasis, relations of such abnormalities with systemic changes, and effects of lipid diet on psoriasis combined with the influence of drugs on lipid parameters. Subject areas particularly investigated include the nature of skin surface lipids, epidermal lipids like stratum corneum lipids and epidermal phospholipids, and dermal low-density lipoproteins in the psoriatic skin, among others.
