Abstract

In this paper, we introduce the notion of uniform harmonic χ-convex functions. We show that this class relates several other unrelated classes of uniform harmonic convex functions. We derive a new version of Hermite-Hadamard’s inequality and its fractional analogue. We also derive a new fractional integral identity using Caputo-Fabrizio fractional integrals. Utilizing this integral identity as an auxiliary result, we obtain new fractional Dragomir-Agarwal type of inequalities involving differentiable uniform harmonic χ-convex functions. We discuss numerous new special cases which show that our results are quite unifying. Finally, in order to show the significance of the main results, we discuss some applications to means of positive real numbers.

Abstract

The main objective of this article is to establish some new fractional refinements of Hermite–Hadamard-type inequalities essentially using new ψk-Riemann–Liouville fractional integrals, where k>0. Using this new fractional integral, we also derive two new fractional integral identities. Applications of the obtained results are also discussed.

Abstract

Homeless young people who engage in sex work are at increased risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections like chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis and herpes. Semi‐structured interviews were conducted with 29 homeless young people between the ages of 16 and 25 years from Rawalpindi, Pakistan, to explore how sexual practices were mediated through social and contextual conditions. Participants engaged in sex for a range of reported reasons, most commonly to generate income, but also to build intimacy and to establish intimate partnerships which could bring physical protection and social and emotional support. Although participants were aware of the sexual health risks attached to condomless sex, they engaged in it due to the social obligations of intimate partnerships, financial considerations and to better manage potentially violent situations. Instead of condoms, participants used alternate methods like withdrawal, oral sex, post‐sex douching and specific sexual positions. These were not always useful, and some methods might have inadvertently increased their risk of HIV. The study findings suggest that an integrated health promotion approach that goes beyond the health sector and a singular emphasis on risk awareness may help reduce young people's risk of homelessness and sexual health risks. 18. Toward connectivity of a disconnected cluster in partitioned wireless sensor network for time-critical data collection.

Abstract

Reliable network connectivity is one of the major design issues in the context of wireless sensor networks. These networks have diverse communication patterns due to non-uniform sensing activities at various locations in the environment being monitored. In such scenarios, some nodes lying in high-traffic zones may consume more energy and eventually die out resulting in network partitioning. This gives rise to a situation in which alive nodes are trapped in a disconnected cluster, and they do not have enough radio range to communicate their data to the destination (i.e. a sink or a relay node connected to the main part of the network). This phenomenon may deprive a large number of alive nodes of sending their important time-critical data to the sink. In this article, we propose a virtual antenna–based cooperative beamforming approach for retrieving valuable data from these disconnected nodes. In the proposed approach, the sensor nodes in an isolated partition work together to form a directional beam. This directional beam significantly increases their overall communication range to reach out to a distant relay node which is connected to the main part of the network. The proposed approach of cooperative beamforming–based partition connectivity is more effective when a cluster with a favorably large number of nodes gets partitioned. Furthermore, a beamforming-based mechanism is proposed for a disconnected cluster to locate the nearest relay node which is still connected to the sink and to reconnect itself to the main part of the network via the most adjacent relay node for time-critical data transmission. Abstract

An EGFP construct interacting with the PIB1000-PEG6000-PIB1000vesicles surface reported a ~2-fold fluorescence emission enhancement. Because of the constructs nature with the amphiphilic peptide inserted into the PIB core, EGFP is expected to experience a “pure” PEG environment. To unravel this phenomenon PEG/water solutions at different molecular weights and concentrations were used. Already at ~1 : 10 protein/PEG molar ratio the increase in fluorescence emission is observed reaching a plateau correlating with the PEG molecular weight. Parallel experiments in presence of glycerol aqueous solutions did show a slight fluorescence enhancement however starting at much higher concentrations. Molecular dynamics simulations of EGFP in neat water, glycerol, and PEG aqueous solutions were performed showing that PEG molecules tend to “wrap” the protein creating a microenvironment where the local PEG concentration is higher compared to its bulk concentration. Because the fluorescent emission can be perturbed by the refractive index surrounding the protein, the clustering of PEG molecules induces an enhanced fluorescence emission already at extremely low concentrations. These findings can be important when related to the use of EGFP as reported in molecular biology experiments.

Abstract

Petrography and physicomechanical properties of alkali granites, alkali quartz syenite, and nepheline syenite from Ambela, NW Pakistan, have been investigated. Whereas the alkali quartz syenite and most of the alkali granites are megaporphyritic, the nepheline syenite and some of the alkali granites are microporphyritic. Their phenocryst shape and size and abundance of groundmass are also different. The values of unconfined compressive strength (UCS) are the lowest and highest for megaporphyritic alkali granite and alkali quartz syenite, respectively. However, all the four rock types are moderately strong. Correspondingly, their specific gravity and water absorption values are within the permissible range for use as construction material. The UCS for the alkali quartz syenite is the highest, most probably because (i) it has roughly equal amounts of phenocryst and groundmass, (ii) it displays maximum size contrast between phenocryst and groundmass, (iii) its phenocrysts are highly irregular, and (iv) it contains substantial amounts of quartz.
