Introduction. Moxibustion, a traditional Chinese medicine technique, involves the use of moxa smoke from Folium Artemisia argyi to treat various disorders, especially superficial infections. However, there is a higher health risk for people exposed to high levels of moxa smoke for extended durations. Here, we report the first ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) fingerprint profiles and pharmacodynamic evaluation of moxa smoke, as well as evaluation of its aqueous solution on a rat model of superficial infection. Methods. A novel method for moxa smoke fingerprint profiling was developed using UHPLC under characteristic wavelength. Chromatographic peaks were further analyzed by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QTOF/MS). 12 sample batches obtained from various Chinese provinces were then analyzed using similarity evaluation, clustering analysis, and principal component analysis. The pharmacodynamics of moxa smoke and moxa aqueous solution were investigated on a rat model of acute skin wound infection. Results. UHPLC fingerprint profiles of 12 batches of moxa smoke were generated at 270 nm wavelength and 21 chromatographic peaks extracted as common peaks. Similarity between the 12 batches ranged from 0.341 to 0.982. Based on cluster analysis, the 12 batches of moxa smoke samples were clustered into five groups. Principal component analysis showed that the cumulative contribution of the three principal components reached 90.17%. Eigenvalues of the first, second, and third principal components were 10.794, 6.504, and 1.638, respectively. The corresponding variance contribution rates were 51.40%, 30.97%, and 7.80%, respectively. Pharmacological analysis found that wound healing was slow in the model group relative to the mupirocin ointment, moxa smoke, and aqueous moxa smoke solution groups. Histological analysis revealed markedly reduced tissue inflammation in rats treated with moxa smoke or its aqueous solution. Conclusions. Moxa smoke and its aqueous solution significantly promote wound healing upon superficial infection. A novel quality control method for moxa smoke was established and evaluated for the first time. As its main effects are unchanged, the transformation of moxa smoke into aqueous moxa smoke improves safety and is a simple and controllable process.

The application of polymer grouting in underground pipeline rehabilitation is increasing gradually. The leakage and subsidence of buried pipelines could be repaired by polymer grouting technology. In order to analyse the calculation theory of the pipeline repairing process, the Winkler model and the Vlazov model of the pipe-soil-polymer interaction based on the elastoplastic theory are established, the calculation formulas of the pipe-soil interaction under polymer grouting are derived, and the MATLAB calculation program based on the transfer matrix method is compiled. Then the calculated values are compared with the pipeline experimental values, and the influence of different factors on the internal force and deformation of the polymer-repaired pipeline under different work conditions is discussed. The results show that the values and trends of the pipe deformation and circumferential bending moment calculated by the models are consistent with the experimental results, and the results obtained by the Vlazov model are closer to the experimental values. In addition, the void at the bottom of the pipeline has a large impact on the mechanical properties of the pipeline. However, polymer grouting can repair disengaged pipelines effectively and restore their mechanical properties. The proposed methods and calculation results are valuable for pipeline polymer repairing analysis and pipeline void repairing design.

AIMS The relationship between ferritin levels and survival in adult hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) has been evaluated in previous studies. However, Admission-to-discharge percentage ferritin reduction (named as ferritin index) level in adult patients with HLH has never been evaluated to predict 6-month survival. METHODS The demographic, laboratory and clinical information of 102 newly diagnosed adult HLH patients were collected. Objective. Leukopenia, a common complication of tumor chemoradiotherapy, contributes serious damage to the hematopoietic, gastrointestinal, and immune systems of the body and can cause delay, discontinuation, or even failure to tumor treatment, thereby greatly threatening human health. The present study aims to investigate the protective effects of biscoclaurine alkaloids (BA) on leukopenia. Methods. This study was conducted on 60 Kunming mice, which were randomly divided into six groups containing 10 animals each. A hematology analyzer was used to count white blood cells (WBC) in the peripheral blood cell. Mice serum was collected, and the granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor, vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1), and interferon-γ (IFN-γ) were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Pathological changes were detected through hematoxylin and eosin staining in the liver and spleen of mice. The spleen and liver ultrastructures were observed via electron microscopy. Results. Results showed that BA ameliorated WBC, PLT reduction in the peripheral blood and significantly increased the levels of IFN-γ and VCAM-1 in mice serum. BA reduced ionizing radiation-induced injuries to spleen, mitigated the reduction of superoxide dismutase (SOD), and significantly decreased the malonaldehyde (MDA) and xanthine oxidase (XOD) levels in the liver. Conclusion. BA enhanced the immune and hematopoietic functions and ameliorated the oxidative stress induced by 60Co-γ radiation, revealing its therapeutic potential both as a radioprotector and as a radiation mitigator for leukopenia induced by 60Co-γ radiation.

In order to improve the deficiency of vehicle stability region, according to vehicle nonlinear dynamic model, method of estimating vehicle spatial stability region was proposed. With Pacejka magic formula tire model, nonlinear 3DOF vehicle model was deduced and verified though vehicle test. Detailed detecting system and data processing were introduced. In addition, stability of the vehicle system was discussed using Hurwitz criterion. By establishing energy function for vehicle system, the vehicle’s stability region in 20 m/s was estimated based on Lyapunov theorem and vehicle system characteristics. Vehicle test in the same condition shows that the calculated stability region defined by Lyapunov and system stability theorem has good effect on characterized vehicle stability and it could be a valuable reference for vehicle stability evaluation.
