An immunosensor was developed on an interdigitated electrode (IDE) by voltammetry sensing for the early identification of the autoimmune disease 'rheumatoid arthritis (RA)' by detecting the biomarker anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody (anti-CCP). Higher immobilization of cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) as a probe was achieved by using green synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs). Field-emission scanning electron microscopy and fieldemission transmission electron microscopy observations revealed that the polydispersed material displayed multifaceted features. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis confirms the occurrence of Fe, O, and C groups on the synthesized IONPs. IONPs were immobilized with a probe on IDE through bifunctional aldehyde-amine linkers. Due to the elevated occupancy of CCP and the highly efficient electric transfer from IONPs, higher changes in current are observed upon binding of anti-CCP with CCP. In the linear range from 8 to 250 pg/mL, the sensitivity and detection limit of anti-CCP were 8 and 15 pg/mL, respectively, with a regression coefficient of y = 1E-06x-3E-07; R² = 0.9637. Control experiments with nonimmune antibody and anti-carcinoembryonic antigen indicate the specific detection of anti-CCP. Furthermore, spiking of anti-CCP in human serum does not interfere, representing the specific detection of anti-CCP. Despite manufacturers' goal of molding single component products from plastics, the structures of some of the products are far too complex to be molded as a single piece. Therefore, assembly of subcomponents into the final products is important for the manufacturing of many plastic-based products. To date, welding is the most efficient joining method for plastics. In this study, multiwalled carbon nanotubes were proposed as the susceptor for the microwave welding of highdensity polyethylene considering multiwalled carbon nanotube is a good microwave absorber. multiwalled carbon nanotubes were first dispersed in ethanol in an ultrasonic bath to obtain a homogeneous dispersion. Multiwalled carbon nanotubes dispersion was dropped on the targeted area of the prepared dumbbell-shaped sample and dried in an oven at 45°C for 30 min. The sample was then subjected to 800W microwave irradiation in the domestic microwave oven. The strength of the weld was tested by using tensile testing. Besides, the cross section of the welded joint was characterized by using scanning electron microscopy. The effect of microwave heating duration and the multiwalled carbon nanotube concentration in the dispersion were studied. It was found that the joint strength increased as the heating duration increase from 2 s to 8 s but decreased when the heating duration was further extended to 10 s. Scanning electron microscopic images showed that voids were formed at the joint interface when 10 s was used and resulted in the lowering of joint strength. In the study of the effect of the multiwalled carbon nanotube concentration in the dispersion, joint strength increased when the multiwalled carbon nanotubes concentration increased from 0.25 wt% to 0.75 wt%. However, the joint strength of sample with 1.00 wt% multiwalled carbon nanotube concentration decreased. The presence of a thick unwelded multiwalled carbon nanotubes layer at the joint interface for sample with 1.00 wt% multiwalled carbon nanotubes concentration as shown in scanning electron microscopic image was believed to cause the lowering of joint strength. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a nervous disorder, affects physical movement, and leads to difficulty in balancing, walking, and coordination. A novel sensor is mandatory to determine PD and monitor the progress of the treatment. Neurofilament light chain (NfL) has been recognized as a good biomarker for PD and also helps to distinguish between PD and atypical PD syndromes. Immunosensor was generated by current-volt measurement on gap-fingered interdigitated electrode with silicon dioxide surface to determine NfL level. To enhance the detection, anti-NfL antibody was complexed with gold-nanourchin and immobilized on the sensing electrode. The current-volt response was gradually increased at the linear detection range from100 fM to 1nM. Limitof detection and sensitivitywere 100 fMwith the signal-to-noise ratioat n=3 on a linear curve (y=0.081x+1.593; R²=0.9983). Limit of quantification falls at 1pMand high performance of the sensorwas demonstrated by discriminating against other neurogenerative disease markers, in addition, it was reproducible even in serum-spiked samples. Lipases are of great interest for different industrial applications due to their diversity and versatility. Among different lipases, microbial lipases are preferable due to their broad substrate specificity, and higher stability with lower production costs compared to the lipases from plants and animals. In the past, a vast number of bacterial species have been reported as potential lipases producers. In this study, the lipases-producing bacterial species were isolated from an oil spillage area in the conventional night market. Isolated species were identified as Bacillus species by biochemical tests which indicate their predominant establishment, and further screened on the agar solid surfaces using lipid and gelatin as the substrates. Out of the ten strains tested, four potential strains were subjected to comparison analysis of the lipolytic versus proteolytic activities. Strain 10 exhibited the highest lipolytic and proteolytic activity. In all the strains, the proteolytic activity is higher than the lipolytic activity except for strain 8, suggesting the possibility for substrate-based extracellular gene induction. The simultaneous secretion of both the lipase and protease is a mean of survival. The isolated bacterial species which harbour both lipase and protease enzymes could render potential industrial-based applications and solve environmental issues. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
