Background. National as well as international Parkinson's disease (PD) treatment guidelines are available to guide clinicians. Previous research has shown that nonmotor symptoms (NMS) are pronounced in late-stage PD and has suggested that current treatment is insufficient and could be improved. Objectives. The aim of this study was to investigate to which degree the national and international treatment guidelines are followed in the treatment of NMS in late-stage PD. Methods. This Swedish cohort was part of the Care of Late-Stage Parkinsonism (CLaSP) study. Late-stage PD was defined as Hoehn and Yahr stages IV-V in "on" and/or ≤50% on the Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living (ADL) scale. NMS were assessed with the NMS scale (NMSS), cognition with the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), and depressive symptoms with the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-30). Symptomatic individuals were defined as ≥ 6 on an item of the NMSS; for dementia, a cutoff of ≤18 on the MMSE; for depression, a cutoff of ≥10 on the GDS. Results. All 107 participants exhibited NMS to various degrees and severities; the median NMSS score was 91. Among symptomatic individuals, for depressive symptoms, 37/63 (59%) were treated with antidepressants; for hallucinations and delusions, 9/18 (50%) and 5/13 (38%) were treated with antipsychotics; and for dementia, 9/27 (33%) were treated with rivastigmine and 1 (4%) was treated with donepezil. For orthostatic hypotension, 11/19 (58%) with lightheadedness and 7/8 (88%) with fainting were treated with antihypotensives; for sialorrhea, 2/42 (5%) were treated with botulinum toxin; and for constipation, 19/35 (54%) were treated with laxatives. For insomnia, 4/16 (25%) were treated with hypnotics, and for daytime sleepiness, 1/29 (3%) was treated with psychostimulants. Conclusions. The present analyses suggest a need for clinicians to further screen for and treat NMS. Introduction. Drooling in Parkinson's disease (PD) is frequent but often goes underrecognized. Our aim was to examine the prevalence of drooling in a PD cohort and compare it with a control group. Specifically, we identified factors associated with drooling and conducted subanalyses in a subgroup of very early PD patients. Patients and Methods. PD patients who were recruited from January 2016 to November 2017 (baseline visit; V0) and evaluated again at a 2-year ± 30-day follow-up (V2) from 35 centers in Spain from the COPPADIS cohort were included in this longitudinal prospective study. Subjects were classified as with or without drooling according to item 19 of the NMSS (Nonmotor Symptoms Scale) at V0, V1 (1-year ± 15 days), and V2 for patients and at V0 and V2 for controls. Results. The frequency of drooling in PD patients was 40.1% (277/691) at V0 (2.4% (5/201) in controls; p < 0.0001), 43.7% (264/604) at V1, and 48.2% (242/502) at V2 (3.2% (4/124) in controls; p < 0.0001), with a period prevalence of 63.6% (306/481). Being older (OR = 1.032; p = 0.012), being male (OR = 2.333; p < 0.0001), having greater nonmotor symptom (NMS) burden at the baseline (NMSS total score at V0; OR = 1.020; p < 0.0001), and having a greater increase in the NMS burden from V0 to V2 (change in the NMSS total score from V0 to V2; OR = 1.012; p < 0.0001) were identified as independent predictors of drooling after the 2-year follow-up. Similar results were observed in the group of patients with ≤2 years since symptom onset, with a cumulative prevalence of 64.6% and a higher score on the UPDRS-III at V0 (OR = 1.121; p = 0.007) as a predictor of drooling at V2. Objective. To analyse the clinical efficacy of acupuncture and routine treatment in improving dystonia in children with cerebral palsy. Method. The randomized controlled trials published from the establishment of the databases to August 2022 on acupuncture in the treatment of dystonia in children with cerebral palsy were collected and comprehensively searched in China national knowledge infrastructure (CNKI), weipu (VIP), Wanfang, SinoMed, PubMed, Excerpta medica database (EMBASE), and Cochrane Library. The literature was selected according to the established standards, the quality of the included studies was evaluated, the heterogeneity of the included studies was evaluated with the I2 test, and the appropriate model was selected for analysis. Sensitivity analysis was used to evaluate the reliability of the results, and a funnel plot was used to evaluate the publication bias. Results. Fifteen studies were included in the meta-analysis. The control group was treated with routine treatment and acupuncture combined with routine treatment. The outcome index showed that the effect in the treatment group was better: Modified Ashworth Scale score: −0.52, 95% confidence interval (CI) (−0.62 to −0.41), p < 0.01. The treatment group showed reduced muscle tension to a greater extent (integral eletromyographic (iEMG) score: standard mean square deviation = −2.97, 95% CI (−4.87 to −1.06), p < 0.01). The effective rate in the control group was 74.2% and that in the treatment group was 91.5%, odds ratio = 3.70, 95% CI (2.02–6.78), p < 0.01. The funnel plot showed publication bias. Conclusion. Objective. This study is aimed at translating and cross-culturally adapting the Drooling Infants and Preschoolers Scale (DRIPS) into Korean cultural context and examine the content validity and reliability of the Korean version, which is referred as K-DRIPS. Methods. An iterative forward-backward translation sequence of the DRIPS was performed by 20 Korean health professional experts (i.e., occupational therapists (OTs) and professors) with more than 10 years of experience. The study subjects were 77 children with cerebral palsy (CP) exhibiting drooling symptoms aged 2-7 years. They were recruited from two children's rehabilitation hospitals in Korea and completed the K-DRIPS. The content validity and internal consistency of the K-DRIPS items were examined. Results. An assessment with 20 K-DRIPS items was adequately and cross-culturally adapted into Korea. All the items exhibited good content validity (content validity ratio range 4.00-4.95) and good internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.98). Conclusion. The study findings indicated that the K-DRIPS was successfully adapted to the Korean cultural context and demonstrated good psychometric properties. Background. Organophosphates are chemicals that lead to the accumulation of acetylcholine, causing muscarinic symptoms such as salivation and nicotinic manifestations like muscle weakness and hypertension and rarely leading to basal ganglia impairment, manifesting as extrapyramidal symptoms. Literature reported that the use of amantadine, an amine that has both antiviral and dopaminergic activities, improves extrapyramidal manifestations. Most of the studies exploring the effect of amantadine were conducted on adults and there are extremely limited data in regards to this topic in Saudi Arabia. Thus, the purpose of this case study is to report the outcome of treating a child who developed extrapyramidal symptoms due to organophosphates poisoning with amantadine. Case Description. A 6-year-old boy was found by his family drowsy and drooling with an insecticide bottle beside him. He was brought to the ER and arrested on arrival, and he was eventually revived after 5 minutes of CPR. Then, he developed features of extrapyramidal involvement such as delirium, hyperactivity, akathisia, aphonia, and tremors. He was started on oral amantadine 50 mg once daily and then increased to twice daily for two weeks while admitted. During admission, his symptoms were assessed daily, and an improvement was noticed by his family and the medical team. Upon discharge, he was able to form sentences; tremors were almost resolved; and there was no rigidity or agitation. He was followed up postdischarge and showed significant improvement. He continued amantadine for almost 3 months until the full resolution of his symptoms. Discussion and Conclusion. In order to relieve the pain of incision after cesarean section, a method of foot and hand massage for abdominal pain of cesarean section incision under ultrasound guidance was proposed in this paper. In this paper, the experimental control method and retrospective analysis were used to relax the patients through massage, so that the pregnant women could focus on the reaction caused by hand and foot massage, distract their attention, and reduce the pain. The results showed that 60 cases of puerpera after cesarean section were divided into two groups with 30 cases in each group. The control group was only given routine care. The intervention group received 20 min hand and foot massage on the basis of routine care. The visual analog scale (VAS) of pain before, immediately after, 30 min after, and 60 min after massage in the intervention group was evaluated and recorded, and the VAS scores of the control group at the corresponding time points were recorded. The VAS score of the intervention group at each time point after massage was significantly lower than that before massage (P < 0.05), and the VAS score of the intervention group at each time point was significantly lower than that of the control group (P < 0.01). In this paper, the significance of the transformation from financial accounting to management accounting is expounded under the background of artificial intelligence, and the current situation, problems and reasons of the transition are analyzed. In addition, the development of self-management accounting system based on Drools rule engine is put forward, including rule management, rule engine and so on. The core processes such as pattern matching and auto-billing are analyzed, and then the core subsystems such as data receiving and processing, accounting rule engine are designed in detail. Finally, the technological advancement and structural stability of this system are discussed, which can provide reference for promoting the transformation from financial accounting to management accounting under artificial intelligence. Objective. Ultrasound images based on a multioperator algorithm were used to explore the relationship between hemodynamic parameters of pregnant women and fetuses with abnormal glucose metabolism (AGM) during pregnancy and an adverse pregnancy outcome (APO). In addition, the influencing factors leading to APO were analyzed. Methods. 121 pregnant women with AGM during the third trimester of pregnancy were divided into poor prognosis group (group P, 80 cases) and good prognosis group (group G, 41 cases) according to the pregnancy outcome. Ultrasound technology based on a multioperator algorithm was used to detect the two groups of pregnant women, and the detection indexes were hemodynamic parameters of the fetus and uterus. The correlation between hemodynamic parameters and pregnancy outcome was analyzed by Logistic regression. Results. Compared with group G, the values of MCA-PI and MCA/UA in group P were dramatically decreased, while Ut-A-PI was dramatically increased p < 0.05 . When MCA-PI was less than 1.60, the sensitivity and specificity of MCA-PI for predicting APO reached 92.5% and 90.2%, respectively. The mean age of pregnant women, high-density lipoprotein level, family history of diabetes, and number of exercises during pregnancy in baseline data of group P were dramatically different from that of group G p < 0.05 . Advanced age and high-density lipoprotein level were risk factors for a poor prognosis, while MCA-PI, MCA-RI, and MCA/UA were protective factors for a good prognosis. Conclusion. The results show that color Doppler ultrasound based on the multioperator algorithm can be used to predict APO, and MCA-PI less than 1.60 was the most important predictive index and critical value. Objective. The study focused on the separation effects of ultrasound blood flow signal detection, based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD) algorithm, and the clinical efficacy of Compound Danshen injection and magnesium sulfate in the treatment of pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) syndrome. Methods. The empirical mode decomposition (EMD) algorithm was optimized first and compared with other algorithms for the accuracy and stability in separation of blood flow signals. 80 patients with PIH syndrome undergoing ultrasound examination were selected as the research subjects and randomly divided into control group and observation group according to the actual treatment methods. 40 cases in the observation group were treated with Compound Danshen injection + magnesium sulfate, and 40 cases in the control group were treated with magnesium sulfate. After the treatment, the clinical indicators of the two groups of patients were analyzed. Results. The accuracy and stability in separating blood flow signal of the optimized EMD algorithm were better than those of other algorithms. After treatment, the total effective rate and blood pressure control of the observation group were significantly better than those of the control group, and the incidence of adverse maternal and infant outcomes was significantly lower than that of the control group. After treatment, the endothelin-1 (ET-1), C-reactive protein (CRP), and homocysteine (Hcy) indexes of the two groups of patients decreased significantly, and the decrease level of the observation group was significantly greater than that of the control group (P < 0.05). The prothrombin time (PT), fibrinogen (FIB), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), and plasma thrombin time (TT) levels of the two groups after treatment were better than those before treatment, and the observation group was better than the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion. The optimized EMD algorithm is of great value for the separation of ultrasound blood flow signals. For patients with PIH syndrome, Compound Danshen injection combined with magnesium sulfate can be used as a treatment plan, which can improve maternal and infant outcomes; control blood pressure; reduce 24 h urine protein and serum ET-1, Hcy, and CRP levels; and improve coagulation function. Aim: The aim of this research was to explore both older adults' and health care professionals' experience and views of sialorrhoea management practices in older adult residential care settings. Background: Sialorrhoea is quite a bothersome symptom among patients with certain neurological conditions. The complexity of sialorrhoea and its complications can be quite challenging for health care professionals. In the management of sialorrhoea, a multidisciplinary approach is proposed as an effective way of sialorrhoea management. Methods: Thematic analysis of collected data via semi‐structured qualitative interviews with five focus groups involving 28 multidisciplinary health care members and 1 patient. Results: The older adult and multidisciplinary health care professionals' view of the management of sialorrhoea in residential care settings were established under three main themes: 1) 'Sialorrhoea compromising patient's dignity', 2) 'Ad hoc local management' and 3) 'Further integration of care required'. Conclusion: At present, there have been no comprehensive multidisciplinary sialorrhoea management strategies to meet the various needs of older adults with sialorrhoea. Implication for Nursing Management: It is important to minimize the negative impact of sialorrhoea on the patients. The recognition of issues associated with sialorrhoea provides constructive scope for the health care professionals to further investigate and develop more effective integrated sialorrhoea care protocols. Introduction. Perinatal adverse events put neonates at high risk for short and long-term disabilities, including cerebral palsy (CP). The most recent guidelines about early intervention in infants with brain damage have emphasized the importance of family involvement from the very first phases of development. Early parent-infant interactions are pivotal in promoting infant cognitive and social developmental trajectories. However, little is known about the extent to which severe adverse perinatal events can affect the quality of early parent-infant interactions. Patients and Methods. We systematically searched five databases (PubMed, PsycINFO, EMBASE, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library) for the publications assessing parent-infant interactions in infants at high neurological risk within 1 year of age. Articles were selected if they involved direct comparison between high-risk populations and healthy controls or low-risk populations, and if quantitative or semiquantitative tools were used to assess the parent-infant interaction. Measures of parent-infant interaction included infant interactive behaviors, parental interactive behaviors, and dyadic interactive patterns. Results. The search yielded 18 publications that met the inclusion criteria. The articles represent a high level of heterogeneity in terms of infant neurological risk, infant age, and tools assessing interactive behaviors. Both infant and maternal behaviors within the investigated interactive exchanges were reported to be compromised, leading to subsequent overall impairment of the dyadic patterns. Conclusion. While the studies reviewed here provide general and important information, the review did not yield a clear picture of early dyadic interactions in high-risk infant populations. Further observational studies are warranted in order to provide a more accurate knowledge of the early dyadic exchanges between infants at high neurological risk and their parents, as they might provide a critical opportunity for early family centered habilitative interventions. Premature infants are at risk for cerebral palsy (CP) that is typically diagnosed between 18–24 months. We present a case study of an infant who was discharged from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) without obvious neurological deficits but was later diagnosed with hemiplegic CP. The infant was enrolled in an infant motor study, which included neuroimaging and developmental motor assessments. At term, anatomical MRI showed bilateral periventricular leukomalacia, abnormal brain metabolites in frontal white matter via MR spectroscopy (MRS), and low fractional anisotropy (FA) values obtained from diffusional kurtosis imaging (DKI) in several cortical white matter tracts compared to a group of typically developing infants without neuroimaging abnormalities. In addition, the infant scored below average on a developmental assessment administered at term and three months as well as on the standard Bayley III assessment at 12 months. Abnormal neuroimaging and low scores on the early developmental assessment prompted referral for intervention services at two months. With intensive therapy, by 45 months, the infant was average in self-care, mobility, and communication skills, although below average in visual motor and gross motor coordination. Aim. This observational study aimed at assessing the prevalence of visuospatial attention deficits in children with unilateral spastic cerebral palsy (USCP), taking into consideration the affected hemibody and the localization of the brain lesion. Method. Seventy-five children with USCP were assessed with four visuospatial attention tests: star cancellation, Ogden figure copy, line bisection, and proprioceptive pointing. Results. A majority (64%) of children with USCP presented a deficit in at least one test compared to the reference values. The alterations observed in children with left or right USCP were related to egocentric or allocentric neglect, respectively. Children with cortico/subcortical lesion presented more often visuospatial attention deficits than children with periventricular lesion. Visuospatial attention deficits were not associated with brain lesion locations. Interpretation. Visuospatial attention deficits are prevalent in children with USCP and should be taken into account during their rehabilitation process. The present results shed new light on the interpretation of motor impairments in children with USCP as they may be influenced by the frequent presence of visuospatial deficits. Purpose: The purpose of this report is to provide clinical strategies to manage patients with schizophrenia taking clozapine. Conclusions: Serious side effects and required blood monitoring impede the use of clozapine, despite the benefits of clozapine for managing psychiatric symptoms. Well‐managed patients receiving evidence‐based interventions exhibit reduced symptoms, improved functioning, and better adherence to treatment. Practice Implications: Preexisting medical conditions should be considered before prescribing clozapine. Ongoing education on medication and mental illness for patients and family members is essential to prepare them for adherence to management plans. Objective: To explore the relationship between motor subtypes and drooling, and other risk factors associated with drooling in a large cohort of Chinese patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Methods: A total of 586 PD patients were enrolled in this study. Unified Parkinson's disease rating scale (UPDRS) and Hoehn & Yahr stage (H & Y stage) scale, Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression‐24 item (HRSD), and Mini‐Mental State Examination (MMSE) were applied to all subjects. Salivary subscores of UPDRS part II were used to evaluate drooling. Constipation was diagnosed using the Rome III criteria. Results: The prevalence of drooling in this cohort is 54.6% (320/586). Non‐TD subtype PD patients tend to have higher daily levodopa‐equivalent dose (LED), H & Y stage, UPDRS I, UPDRS II, and UPDRS III scores, HRSD score and ESS score, a higher percentage of levodopa treatment, drooling, dyskinesia, and constipation. After adjusting for confounders, non‐TD subtype, male sex, UPDRS III score, ESS and PSQI scores, and constipation were still associated with drooling, with corresponding Odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were 1.865 (95% CI, 1.137‐3.060), 1. 951 (95% CI, 1.326‐2.869), 1.024 (95% CI, 1.002‐1.046), 1.064 (95% CI, 1.024‐1.105), 1.058 (95% CI, 1.000‐1.119), and 1.603 (95% CI, 1.092‐2.353), respectively. Conclusion: Drooling is common, even in mild‐to‐moderate PD patients. PD patients with non‐TD subtype are at a higher risk of drooling. Male sex, motor severity, excessive daytime sleepiness, poor nighttime sleep, and constipation are also associated with drooling in patients with PD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims. To evaluate the efficacy of Lian-Se formula (LSF), one Chinese herb formulation for treating sialorrhea and frequent overnight urination in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Methods. 96 PD patients suffering from sialorrhea and/or frequent nighttime urination were divided into two groups: an LSF group (n = 48) treated with LSF for 6 weeks and a placebo group (n = 48) treated with a placebo formula whose appearance and taste were the same as LSF for 6 weeks. All patients were treated by standard antiparkinsonism medicine according to the PD guideline of China. The changes of the quantity of saliva (QS) (mL), frequency of nighttime urination (FNU) and early sleep activity (ESA), and nocturnal activity (NA) by analyzing actigraphic records as the primary results and the total score of unified Parkinson’s disease rating scale (UPDRS) and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) as the secondary results were used to evaluate the clinical efficacy in both groups. Results. There were no significant differences in the baseline values of QS, FNU, NA, ESA, UPDRS total score, and ESS between the two groups. At the end of week 6, the QS, FNU, NA, and ESA in the LSF group showed superior results to those of the placebo group with no differences in the total UPDRS score between the two groups during the investigation. The ESS was significantly improved at the end of week 6 compared with the baseline and the placebo group. Laboratory test results indicated there were no side effects in either group. Conclusion. The findings of LSF treatment have clear clinical effects in patients with sialorrhea and frequent overnight urination. Objectives Botulinum neurotoxin (Bo NT) injections in the salivary glands and radiotherapy ( RT) on these glands are commonly used to alleviate severe drooling in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ( ALS). This study compares Bo NT type A with RT based on patient-rated evaluations. Materials & methods A prospective randomized controlled pilot study to compare RT ( n = 10; on the parotid and the posterior part of the submandibular glands) with Bo NT-A treatment ( n = 10; in the parotid glands only, because of the risk of increasing oropharyngeal weakness) in patients with ALS. The primary outcome was the drooling status (burden of drooling), and our secondary interests were the degree of salivation, global change of drooling after treatment, and level of satisfaction with the treatment and negative experiences. Results There were no statistically significant between-treatment differences for the drooling status after treatment. Only at twelve weeks more saliva reduction was achieved by RT ( P = 0.02). Patients treated with RT also described more transient negative experiences (like pain in mandible) directly after treatment. Subgroup analysis showed that patients with very severe dysphagia (no oral intake) were less satisfied and experienced a lower global change of drooling after treatment. Conclusions This pilot study showed no significant difference in the burden of drooling between the treatments. However, with RT more saliva reduction was achieved, including negative experiences directly after treatment, but without the risk of decreasing oropharyngeal function. Awareness of nonmotor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease is growing during the last decade. Among these, oral cavity disorders are, although prevalent, often neglected by the patients, their caregivers, and physicians. Some of these disorders include increased prevalence of caries and periodontal disease, sialorrhea and drooling, xerostomia, orofacial pain, bruxism, and taste impairment. Though many of these disorders are not fully understood yet and relatively few controlled trials have been published regarding their treatment, physicians should be aware of the body of evidence that does exist on these topics. This paper reviews current knowledge regarding the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and treatment options of disorders of the oral cavity in Parkinson’s disease patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives To investigate efficacy, saliva flow, and composition in repeated Bo NT-B treatments of drooling. Materials and methods Seventeen neurological patients (median 66 years), referred for treatment of drooling participated in this observational study. Median total doses of 4000 units botulinum toxin type B (Bo NT-B, Neurobloc®) were injected with at least 3 months intervals into parotid and submandibular glands using ultrasound guidance. Measures of drooling and saliva collection for analysis were obtained before treatment, and 6, 12, and eventually 18 weeks after. Results Number of treatment series in each patient was 1-7. Compared to baseline, saliva flow rate and drooling were reduced 30-70% 6 weeks after treatment in the first series, while sodium, chloride, and total protein increased 20-80% (t-tests; P < 0.05). After 12 weeks, drooling was still significantly reduced, saliva flow tended to be, and saliva composition was back to baseline. Frequent side effects were viscous saliva and dry mouth. Due to fading effect in eight patients, individual decisions were taken to change from Bo NT-B to Bo NT-A. Similarly, the outcome was significantly reduced over time in six patients completing five subsequent Bo NT-B treatment series ( ANOVA; P < 0.05). Conclusion In the first series, Bo NT-B treatment resulted in marked reduction of drooling and saliva flow rate with some relapse after 12 weeks. Macrostomia is a congenital deformity resulting from failure of fusion of maxillary and mandibular process. It is a rare congenital deformity with an incidence of 1 in 60,000 to 1 in 300,000 live births. Transverse facial clefts are more common on right side of face in unilateral cases. Males are more affected than females. Various surgical techniques have been described in the literature for the correction of these defects. We report a case of macrostomia corrected with Z-plasty closure for skin, overlapping muscle closure, and triangular mucosal flap for commissure, with a review on existing techniques. The causes of severe sialorrhea (drooling) are reviewed, and in particular in children in whom it can become a life-long disability. The history of medical and surgical treatments is discussed. A major advance has been the surgical relocation of the submandibular gland ducts with removal of sublingual glands. The results of this operation, technical considerations, and its outcomes in 16 children are presented. There were no significant complications. Caregivers judged the efficacy with a median score of "75%" improvement. The technique has become the most logical and reliable surgical treatment for drooling, with very good control in most cases. Classic Raymond syndrome consists of ipsilateral abducens impairment, contralateral central facial paresis, and contralateral hemiparesis. However, subsequent clinical observations argued on the presentation of facial involvement. To validate this entity, we present a case of classic Raymond syndrome with contralateral facial paresis. A 50 year-old man experienced acute onset of horizontal diplopia, left mouth drooling and left-sided weakness. Neurological examination showed he had right abducens nerve palsy, left-sided paresis of the lower part of the face and limbs, and left hyperreflexia. A brain MRI showed a subacute infarct in the right mid-pons. The findings were consistent with those of classic Raymond syndrome. To date, only a few cases of Raymond syndrome, commonly without facial involvement, have been reported. Our case is a validation of classic Raymond syndrome with contralateral facial paresis. We propose the concept of two types of Raymond syndrome: (1) the classic type, which may be produced by a lesion in the mid-pons involving the ipsilateral abducens fascicle and undecussated corticofacial and corticospinal fibers; and (2) the common type, which may be produced by a lesion involving the ipsilateral abducens fascicle and undecussated corticospinal fibers but sparing the corticofacial fibers. One-third to half of patients taking clozapine suffer from refractory symptoms despite adequate treatment. Among other adverse effects, clozapine-induced hypersalivation (CIH) occurs in approximately half of all patients. This is a case of a 30-year-old male with refractory schizophrenia; in this patient, the remission of residual positive symptoms, as well as the reduction of CIH, was achieved by treatment with clozapine augmented with amisulpride.
