Compressive sampling matching pursuit (CoSaMP), as a conventional algorithm requiring system sparsity and sensitive to step size, was improved in this paper by approximating the sparsity with adaptive variable step size. In the proposed algorithm (CoSaMP with variable step size abbreviated as Vss-CoSaMP), the idea of approximating sparsity with adaptive step size was borrowed from the sparsity adaptive matching pursuit (SAMP) algorithm to determine the sparsity for the CoSaMP algorithm. The applicability of the CoSaMP algorithm was therefore expanded considerably. On this basis, a step size reduction was added as the iteration termination condition of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. An adaptive variable step size algorithm was then put forward to address the CoSaMP algorithm's sensitivity to step size. It could realize the required precision at different initial step sizes. A simulation was carried out to analyze the influence of pilot number and step size in an OFDM system on the algorithm. The algorithms, including SAMP, CoSaMP, and Vss-CoSaMP, were compared with two sparse channels, revealing that the Vss-CoSaMP algorithm overcame the problem of the CoSaMP algorithm, that is, the impossibility to forecast the channel sparsity. With the adaptive step size, the proposed algorithm could reach and achieve better accuracy than the CoSaMP algorithm. Grant-free random access (RA) utilizing massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology has attracted considerable attention in recent years due to its potential to enhance spectral efficiency. This paper introduces an innovative and advanced approach for the joint detection of users and estimation of channels in grant-free RA. The approach incorporates two distinct preamble structures: the single orthogonal preamble (SOP) and the concatenated orthogonal preamble (COP). The proposed algorithms make full use of the inherent quasiorthogonal characteristic of massive MIMO, thereby enabling the accurate estimation of user channels while effectively avoiding collisions in the preambles. As a result, these algorithms generate highly precise estimations of user channels. To substantiate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms, this paper provides an extensive theoretical analysis and presents a comprehensive set of experimental results. These findings offer robust evidence for the efficacy of the algorithms in substantially bolstering the performance of grant-free RA. Additionally, we have conducted further research and analysis, which has led to additional insights and refinements in our proposed approach. Moreover, the experimental results validate the statistical significance and reliability of the performance enhancements achieved by these algorithms. In multicell massive MIMO system, the maximum limit on area throughput can be achieved by improving spectral efficiency and cell density, as well as bandwidth. In order to evaluate the area throughput for such scenarios, the spectral efficiency (SE) that utilizes the linear zero forcing uplink combining scheme, can be modeled under the Rician fading channel and the BS in case of up-links, is responsible to estimate the channel. Different from existing work, the proposed model incorporates various estimators such as minimum mean square error (MMSE), element-wise minimum mean square error estimators under Rician fading. The multicell scenarios with uplink (UL) massive MIMO has been analyzed using the proposed model under different cases such as pilot reuse factor, coherence block length, different number of antennas, and different estimators. The simulation results and analysis are presented based on these parameters. It is found that the average summation of SE per cell can be improved by optimizing MMSE channel estimation using ZF UL combiner, installing multiple BS antennas, serving multiple number of UEs per cell, and using efficient pilot reuse factor. The MMSE and ZF uplink combining are found to be more suitable in improving SE as compared to MMSE-MR. For example, the uplink SE of MMSE channel estimator for pilot reuse factors, 1, 3, and 4, is calculated as 22.5 bit/s/Hz/cell, 22.3 bit/s/Hz/cell, and 21 bit/s/Hz/cell, respectively. The uplink SE for EW-MMSE channel estimator with pilot reuse factors, 1, 3, and 4, is calculated as 22.5 bit/s/Hz/cell, 22 bit/s/Hz/cell, and 22 bit/s/Hz/cell, respectively. For the uplink SE of LS channel estimators, it can be 17.9 bit/s/Hz/cell, 20.2 bit/s/Hz/cell, and 20 bit/s/Hz/cell with pilot reuse factors as f = 1, 3, and 4, respectively. So, for f = 3, the maximum calculated uplink SE for MMSE, EW-MMSE, and LS is 17.6 bit/s/Hz/cell, 17.8 bit/s/Hz/cell, and 13 bit/s/Hz/cell, respectively. It can be concluded that the improved performance is obtained by reducing the pilot contamination at a pilot reuse factor f = 3 with different values of SNR, coherence block length, number of UEs, and number of BS antennas. There is also trade-off between the pilot contamination mitigation and the larger SE. However, there is not much effect on coherence block as when it increases, then the SE increases as well. In wireless communication, the channel function estimated commonly has errors due to the influence of noise, so traditional channel estimation methods cannot accurately estimate the real channel function. Aiming at this problem, we propose a channel estimation method that combines sounding reference signal (SRS) remapping with the deep-learning network BRD_ESRNet. BRD_ESRNet consists of image denoising using a deep convolutional neural network with batch renormalization (BRDNet) and an expanded superresolution convolutional neural network (ESRCNN). At the transmitter side, we first map the SRS into four-box structures, and then, the four-box structures are scattered distribution throughout the time-frequency resource block. At the receiver side, we first perform the modified least squares (LS) estimation based on the four-box structure and place the result into the top-left resource unit of the four box. Then, we perform linear interpolation for the whole resource block. Finally, we equate the estimated channel matrix to a low-resolution image containing noise and input it to BRD_ESRNet. Thus, we obtain data with high resolution and achieve the purpose of reducing the estimation error of the channel function. The experimental results show that the proposed method in this paper has a significant improvement in performance compared to the methods of Soltani et al. and Nithya et al. In cellular wireless communication systems, channel estimation (CE) plays a pivotal role as a crucial technique applied in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation. CE utilizes a variety of methods, including decision-directed channel estimation, pilot-assisted channel estimation (PACE), and blind channel estimation. Among these options, PACE is widely favored for its remarkable stability and consistent superior performance. The idea of massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) shows tremendous potential for the future of wireless communications. However, existing massive MIMO systems face challenges with their high computational complexity and intricate spatial structures, preventing efficient utilization of channel and sparsity features in these multiantenna systems. In communication channels, the signal received is often influenced by the characteristics of the channel and noise present at the receiver. To address this issue, an efficient dataset is utilized, employing the least square (LS) algorithm for minimization. OFDM is a commonly and widely used modulation method in communication systems utilized to specifically combat resonance fading in wireless channels. In wireless communication systems employing OFDM-MIMO, frequency selectivity and time-varying attributes due to multipath channels cause Intercarrier Interference (ICI) among symbols. Channel estimation is a vital aspect for mitigating the effects of fading channels. This investigation focuses on the application of a method examined in the study, which involves a block-type pilot symbol-assisted estimation technique for Rayleigh and Rician fading channel models. The research assesses the performance of the least square (LS) channel estimators in fast-fading channel models while employing various symbol mapping techniques focusing on bit error rate, throughput, and mean square error. The results indicate that the LS estimator exhibits excellent performance in Rayleigh and AWGN channels within the pedestrian A (PedA) model for both uplink and downlink scenarios. A low‐profile dual‐band dual‐polarized base station antenna array is proposed. The dual‐band array is backed by an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) surface. The AMC achieves profile reduction to 0.159 λL0 in the low band (LB), but it acts as a bandpass metasurface in the high band (HB). The nested design of AMC unit cell creates two out‐of‐phase induced currents with lower intensities, enabling suppression and cancelation of HB scattered fields. The back cavities establish clear and independent radiating environments for the LB and HB antennas. They aid in further radiation pattern restoration and antenna profile reduction. The proposed antenna array was fabricated and experimentally measured. The simulated and measured results are presented. Integrating large intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRS) into a millimeter-wave (mmWave) massive multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) technique has been a promising approach to enhance the performance of the wireless communication system with the channel state information (CSI). Most existing work assume that ideal channel estimation can be obtained, but the proposed high-dimensional cascaded MIMO channels and passive reflectors pose a great challenge to these methods. To address the abovementioned problems, we proposed a new method for the reduction of training overhead in IRS with a partial ON/OFF model and an optimizing strategy for pilot design approach. The energy consumption of large-scale antenna arrays and the pilot overhead in the training phase of signal transmission are greatly reduced. Besides, we proposed an improved deep residual shrinkage denoising network, which possesses better denoising performance with a soft thresholding model. The channel data can be denoised by deep learning methods, which greatly improve the accuracy of channel estimation. This article presents a precise approach for far‐field radiation pattern (FFRP) correction of mutually coupled discrete dipole element (DDE) array of monopole antennas and concentric circular antenna array (CCAA) of dipole elements by employing the parametric assimilation technique (PAT). The effect of mutual coupling is a crucial part of any practical antenna array design issue. Various techniques have been suggested to calculate, compensate and reduce the mutual coupling effect during the last few decades. This article shows an exact method for mutual coupling inclusive corrected radiation pattern synthesis using PAT. The parameters of mutual impedance are calculated and assimilated with the values of the desired radiation pattern. The employed technique is cost‐effective, less complex and easy to implement while achieving better performance for mutually coupled DDE array and CCAA synthesis. Grey wolf optimisation (GWO) is a state‐of‐the‐art stochastic algorithm applied here to find the optimal values of the current amplitude excitation weights and the inter‐element spacing between each element of the array in the DDE array and three‐rings structure CCAA for the desired, uncorrected and corrected FFRP synthesis. Some well‐established evolutionary optimisation techniques like particle swarm optimisation (PSO), differential evolution (DE) and social spider algorithm (SSA) are also employed in this article for the sake of comparison with the results achieved by using the GWO algorithm. With the number of Internet of Things devices continually increasing, the endogenous security of Internet of Things communication systems is growingly critical. Physical layer authentication is a powerful means of resisting active attacks by exploiting the unique characteristics inherent in wireless signals and physical devices. Many existing physical layer authentication schemes usually assume physical layer attributes obey certain statistical distributions that are unknown to receivers. To overcome the uncertainty, machine learning–based authentication approaches have been employed to implement threshold-free authentication. In this article, we utilize an expectation–conditional maximization algorithm to provide the physical layer attribute estimates required for the authentication phase and a logistic regression model to achieve threshold-free physical layer authentication. Moreover, a Frank–Wolfe algorithm is considered to achieve fast convergence of the logistic regression parameters and multi-attributes are adopted to increase the differentiation of transmitters. Simulation results demonstrate that the obtained attribute estimates are sufficient to provide a reliable source of data for authentication and the proposed threshold-free multi-attributes physical layer authentication scheme can effectively improve authentication accuracy, with the false alarm rate P f reduced to 0.0263% and the miss detection rate P m reduced to 0.3466%. The article presents 28 GHz circular polarized antenna arrays designed in an embedded wafer level ball grid array (eWLB) package for 5G applications. The antenna arrays are realized on a re‐distribution layer (RDL) in the fan‐out region of the chip package. Two separate but identical arrays perform RX and TX operations where a crossed dipole is used as a building block of the array. These 4‐element arrays have <−10 dB impedance bandwidth covering 25.3–29.8 GHz (4.5 GHz bandwidth) while presenting 10 dBi maximum realized gain. The measurement results show <3 dB axial ratio in the band 26–29.5 GHz, and the main beam can be steered in ±50∘ in the azimuth plane when array elements are fed by appropriate phases from the chip. A novel estimation-based and dropout-dependent control design for distributed control systems of aeroengines with packet dropout is proposed. The packet dropout is described as an independent identically distributed (i.i.d.) Bernoulli process with known probability. The objective of the control system is to effectively and stably impel aeroengines. An inverse system is proposed to reconstruct the missing measurements, based on which, a hybrid adaptive Kalman filter (HAKF) is proposed to provide the estimated states for control design. A new state-feedback control design is developed with the estimated states and the actual states. For guaranteeing the stability of aeroengines, both the stability of HAKF and the new controlled system are analyzed and proved. The new design is applied to an aeroengine, HAKF has superior estimation accuracy which ensures the effectiveness, and the desired stability performance is achieved by controlled system in the presence of packet dropout. In this article, the secure communication in cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output system with low-resolution analog-to-digital converters is investigated in the presence of an active eavesdropper. Specifically, in this article, the deterioration caused by the analog-to-digital converter imperfections on the accuracy of the channel estimation and secure transmission performance is studied. Besides, the additive quantization noise model is utilized to analyze the impacts of the low-resolution analog-to-digital converters. The minimum mean square error channel estimation results show that there is a nonzero floor caused by the coarse analog-to-digital converters. Then, the closed-form expressions for both the legitimate users achievable ergodic rate and the information leakage to the eavesdropper are derived, respectively. Moreover, tight approximated ergodic secrecy rate expression is also presented with respect to analog-to-digital converters quantization bits, number of antennas, pilot power, and so on. To degrade the impacts of the pilot spoofing attack, an active attack detection approach based on random matrix theory is proposed which can only be operated at one access point. Simulation results are provided to corroborate the obtained results and analyze the impacts of various parameters on system secrecy performance. Summary: This work describes an approach for combining local and global non‐destructive techniques for the structural characterization and conservation assessment of cultural heritage buildings. An experimental investigation program was conducted on the south vault of St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, involving historical investigations, a damage survey, sonic tests, and ambient vibration measurements. Recorded data were employed to assess the material and structural properties of the vault and to characterize the observed damage pattern. The study of the correlation between results of sonic tests and ambient vibration measurements has shown how, in complex structural typologies, the information provided by both these two kinds of tests are necessary in order to effectively characterize the structural behaviour, which is strongly influenced by the complexity of geometry and restraint condition. Experimental results have been used for the validation of a numerical model adopting a non‐conventional approach. The procedure is based on comparing numerical simulation of ambient vibration response in terms of the frequency content of acceleration signals. This approach can be performed using only a limited number of measured acceleration signals, proving to be useful and cost‐effective. The work aims to provide helpful insights into the combined use of non‐destructive tests for the efficient structural characterization and safety assessment of heritage structures. Underwater nuclear explosions can be monitored in near real-time by the hydroacoustic network of the International Monitoring System (IMS) established by the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which could also be used to monitor underground and atmospheric nuclear explosions. The equivalent is an important parameter for the nuclear explosions' monitoring. The traditional equivalent estimation method is to calculate the bubble pulsation period, which is difficult to obtain satisfactory results under the current conditions. In this paper, based on the passive sonar equation and the conversion process of acoustic energy parameters in the hydroacoustic station, the threshold monitoring technique used for underwater explosion equivalent estimation was studied, which was not limited to the measurement conditions and calculation results of the bubble pulsation period. Through the analysis of practical monitoring data, estimation on the underwater explosion equivalent based on the threshold monitoring technique was verified to be able to reach the accuracy upper boundary of current methods and expand the measurement range to further ocean space, along with the real-time monitoring capability of IMS hydroacoustic stations which could be estimated by this method. When developing a Wi-Fi indoor positioning system in a real-world environment, the problems we have to face are that some access points' signal strength fluctuates extensively or even loses contact due to the cybersecurity threats, leading to the fact that the indoor location system cannot get reliable application in a real-world environment. To solve this problem, we propose a new integrated model based on signal anomaly detector and signal distance corrector to provide reliable position estimation when the access points' signal is lost under cybersecurity threats. The signal anomaly detector improves recognition capability of the uncertain signal and noise, while the signal distance corrector improves the robustness and fault tolerance of the highly variable Wi-Fi signals. To fully reflect the performance of the proposed method, experiments have been carried out in the real environment of indoor parking lots. In multiple-input multiple-output–orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing underwater acoustic communication systems, the correlation of the sampling matrix is the key of the channel estimation algorithm based on compressed sensing. To reduce the cross-correlation of the sampling matrix and improve the channel estimation performance, a pilot design algorithm for co-sparse channel estimation based on compressed sensing is proposed in this article. Based on the time-domain correlation of the channel, the channel estimation is modeled as a common sparse signal reconstruction problem. When replacing each pilot indices position, the algorithm selects multiple pilot indices with the least cross-correlation from the alternative positions to replace the current pilot indices position, and it uses the inner and outer two-layer loops to realize the bit-by-bit optimal replacement of the pilot. The simulation results show that the channel estimation mean squared error of pilot design algorithm for co-sparse channel estimation based on compressed sensing can be reduced by approximately 18 dB compared with the least square algorithm. Compared with the genetic algorithm and search space size methods, the structural sequence search proposed by pilot design algorithm for co-sparse channel estimation based on compressed sensing is used to design the pilot to complete the channel estimation. Thus, the mean squared error of the channel estimation can be reduced by 2 dB. At the same bit error rate of 0.03, the signal-to-noise ratio can be decreased by approximately 7 dB. The performance of time-domain channel estimation deteriorates due to the presence of Gaussian mixture model (GMM) noise, which results in high mean squared error (MSE) as a challenging issue. The performance of the estimator further decreases when the complexity of the estimator is high due to the high convergence rate. In this paper, an optimized channel estimation method is proposed with low complexity and high accuracy in the GMM environment. In this channel estimation, an improved Gauss-Seidel iterative method is utilized with a minimum number of iterations. The convergence rate of the Gauss-Seidel method is improved by estimating an appropriate initial guess value when no guard bands are used in the orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol. Simulation results provide an acceptable MSE for GMM environments, up to the probability of 5% impulsive noise component. This paper also presents the design and implementation of the proposed estimator in the NEXYS-2 FPGA platform that provides resources allocation, reconfigurability, schematic, and the timing diagram for detailed insight. Aiming at the problem of impact angle constraint and input saturation, an integrated guidance and control (IGC) algorithm with impact angle constraint and input saturation is proposed. A three-channel independent design model of missile IGC with impact angle constraint is established, and an extended state observer with fast finite-time convergence is designed to estimate and compensate model errors and coupling relationship between channels. Based on the nonsingular terminal sliding mode control and backstepping control, the IGC three-channel independent design is completed. Nussbaum function and an auxiliary system are introduced to deal with the input saturation. The Lyapunov function is constructed to prove the finite-time convergence of the IGC algorithm. The brain-computer interface (BCI) plays an important role in assisting patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) to enable them to participate in communication and entertainment. In this study, a novel channel projection-based canonical correlation analysis (CP-CCA) target identification method for steady-state visual evoked potential- (SSVEP-) based BCI system was proposed. The single-channel electroencephalography (EEG) signals of multiple trials were recorded when the subject is under the same stimulus frequency. The CCAs between single-channel EEG signals of multiple trials and sine-cosine reference signals were obtained. Then, the optimal reference signal of each channel was utilized to estimate the test EEG signal. To validate the proposed method, we acquired the training dataset with two testing conditions including the optimal time window length and the number of the trial of training data. The offline experiments conducted a comparison of the proposed method with the traditional canonical correlation analysis (CCA) and power spectrum density analysis (PSDA) method using a 5-class SSVEP dataset that was recorded from 10 subjects. Based on the training dataset, the online 3D-helicopter control experiment was carried out. The offline experimental results showed that the proposed method outperformed the CCA and the PSDA methods in terms of classification accuracy and information transfer rate (ITR). Furthermore, the online experiments of 3-DOF helicopter control achieved an average accuracy of 87.94 ± 5.93% with an ITR of 21.07 ± 4.42 bit/min. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A prototype filter design for FBMC/OQAM systems is proposed in this study. The influence of both the channel estimation and the stop-band energy is taken into account in this method. An efficient preamble structure is proposed to improve the performance of channel estimation and save the frequency spectral efficiency. The reciprocal of the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (RSINR) is derived to measure the influence of the prototype filter on channel estimation. After that, the process of prototype filter design is formulated as an optimization problem with constraint on the RSINR. To accelerate the convergence and obtain global optimal solution, an improved genetic algorithm is proposed. Especially, the History Network and pruning operator are adopted in this improved genetic algorithm. In the joint radar and communication system, using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals, cyclic prefix (CP) and pilots lead to the problem of high peak at the sidelobe (PSL) level in autocorrelation function (ACF), which deteriorates the radar detection performance seriously. To solve this problem, first, a new RadCom signal based on time-domain synchronization OFDM (TDS-OFDM) was proposed. TDS-OFDM adopts training sequence (TS) for guard interval, as well as synchronization and channel estimation, so that CP and pilots can be avoided. And then, ambiguity function (AF) of TDS-OFDM RadCom signal was analyzed. Finally, TS are optimized to suppress PSL of TDS-OFDM signal and maintain the autocorrelation properties of TS simultaneously. The results show that the autocorrelation performance of designed TDS-OFDM RadCom signal is much better than that of CP-OFDM RadCom signal. In order to analyze the channel estimation performance of near space high altitude platform station (HAPS) in wireless communication system, the structure and formation of HAPS are studied in this paper. The traditional Least Squares (LS) channel estimation method and Singular Value Decomposition-Linear Minimum Mean-Squared (SVD-LMMS) channel estimation method are compared and investigated. A novel channel estimation method and model are proposed. The channel estimation performance of HAPS is studied deeply. The simulation and theoretical analysis results show that the performance of the proposed method is better than the traditional methods. The aim of this paper is to investigate a linear precoding scheme design for a multiple-input multiple-output two-way relay system with imperfect channel state information. The scheme design is simplified as an optimal problem with precoding matrix variables, which is deduced with the maximum power constraint at the relay station based on the minimum mean square error criterion. With channel feedback delay at both ends of the channel and the channel estimation errors being taken into account, we propose a matrix decomposition scheme and a joint iterative scheme to minimize the average sum mean square error. The matrix decomposition method is used to derive the closed form of the relay matrix, and the joint iterative algorithm is used to optimize the precoding matrix and the processing matrix. According to numerical simulation results, the matrix decomposition scheme reduces the system bit error rate (BER) effectively and the joint iterative scheme achieves the best performance of BER against existing methods. The performance of Massive MIMO is severely limited by channel estimation error, which is caused by pilot contamination and channel aging. In this paper, we propose an estimation algorithm based on the weighted total least-squares method with errors-in-variables (EIV) model to alleviate the influence of pilot contamination and channel aging. Then, a channel rectification method has been investigated to diminish the inaccuracy of channel estimation. Comparing with the traditional methods, it not only helps to make the signal estimation more accurate, but also provides opportunities to correct the channel model with estimation error and update the aged channel statement information. Compressive sensing based channel estimation has shown its advantage of accurate reconstruction for sparse signal with less pilots for OFDM systems. However, high computational cost requirement of CS method, due to linear programming, significantly restricts its implementation in practical applications. In this paper, we propose a reduced complexity channel estimation scheme of modified orthogonal matching pursuit with sliding windows for ISDB-T (Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting for Terrestrial) system. The proposed scheme can reduce the computational cost by limiting the searching region as well as making effective use of the last estimation result. In addition, adaptive tracking strategy with sliding sampling window can improve the robustness of CS based methods to guarantee its accuracy of channel matrix reconstruction, even for fast time-variant channels. The complexity of channel estimation algorithms is of critical importance in high mobility orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. To reduce the complexity of the algorithm, the existing channel estimation algorithms take advantage of the correlations between the channel coefficients. However, they do not take into account the variations of the correlations with the delay tap. In this paper, we consider the change in correlation between channel coefficients for different delay taps. By considering these variations, the number of computations needed for channel estimation can be decreased. This results in a reduction in the circuit energy. We investigate the joint effects of feedback delay and channel estimation errors (CEE) over Nakagami-m fading channels for two-hop amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying systems with transmit beamforming (TB) and relay selection (RS). We derive new closed-form expressions for the system outage performance including the exact analysis and informative high SNR asymptotic approximations, which indicate that TB feedback delay reduces the achievable diversity order to one, regardless of Nakagami-m fading parameters. Whereas RS delay reduces the diversity order to a case without relay selection and CEE merely result in coding gain loss, numerical results verify the theoretical analysis and illustrate that the outage performance is more sensitive to the TB feedback delay. The saturation regime of two types of fully depleted (FD) SOI MOSFET devices was studied. Ultrathin body (UTB) and gate recessed channel (GRC) devices were fabricated simultaneously on the same silicon wafer through a selective "gate recessed" process. They share the same W/L ratio but have a channel film thickness of 46 nm and 2.2 nm, respectively. Their standard characteristics (IDS-VDS and JDS-VGS) of the devices were measured at room temperature before cooling down to 77 K. Surprisingly, their respective temperature dependence is found to be opposite. In this paper, we focus our comparative analysis on the devices' conduction using a Y-function applied to the saturation domain. The influence of the temperature in this domain is presented for the first time. The UWB channel estimation and multi user detection problem are investigated. The information symbol and channel parameter are considered as unknown variables. The multi user detector and UWB channel estimator are designed jointly. For symbol detection, the one-step predictor of channel parameter is used and the estimation error is treated as a multiplicative noise; then a Riccati equation and a Lyapunov equation will be needed. If the transmitted symbols are uncorrelated and identically distributed random variables with zero mean and unit variance, only a Riccati equation needs to be solved. For UWB channel estimation, the one-step predictor of information symbol is used and the estimation error is also considered as a multiplicative noise. This paper focuses on mobile multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) underwater acoustic communications (UAC) over double-selective channels subject to both intersymbol interference and Doppler scaling effects. Temporal resampling is implemented to effectively convert the Doppler scaling effects to Doppler frequency shifts. Under the assumption that the channels between all the transmitter and receiver pairs experience the same Doppler frequency, a variation of the recently proposed generalization of the sparse learning via iterative minimization (GoSLIM) algorithm, referred to as GoSLIM-V, is employed to estimate the frequency modulated acoustic channels. GoSLIM-V is user parameter free and is easy to use in practical applications. This paper also considers turbo equalization for retrieving the transmitted signal. In particular, this paper reviews the linear minimum mean-squared error (LMMSE) based soft-input soft-output equalizer involved in the turbo equalization scheme and adopts a fast implementation of the equalizer that achieves negligible detection performance degradation compared to its direct implementation counterpart. We present a new adaptive method to calculate the path loss exponent (PLE) for microcell outdoor dynamic environments in the 2.4 GHz Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) frequency band. The proposed method calculates the PLE during random walks by recording signal strength measurements from Radio Frequency (RF) transceivers and position data with a consumer-grade GPS receiver. The novelty of this work lies in the formulation of signal propagation conditions as a parametric observation model in order to estimate first the PLE and then the distance from the received RF signals using nonlinear least squares. GPS data is used to identify long term fading from the received signal's power and helps to refine the power-distance model. Ray tracing geometries for urban canyon (direct line of sight) and nonurban canyon (obstacles) propagation scenarios are used as the physics of the model (design matrix). Although the method was implemented for a lightweight localization algorithm for the 802.11b/g (Wi-Fi) standard, it can also be applied to other ISM band protocols such as 802.15.4 (Zigbee) and 802.15.1 (Bluetooth). A wireless network scenario of bidirectional relaying with imperfect channel side information (CSI) is considered, in which two source nodes intend to exchange information with the help of one relay. The power allocation problem is investigated to minimize the total transmit power subject to constraints on two source nodes' received signal-to-noise-ratios (SNRs). The best relay that minimizes the total transmit power is selected in a multiple relay network. We also present outage analysis when the proposed power allocation is adopted, and a close-form approximation of outage probability is obtained by shrinking the integral interval. Simulation results show that the total transmit power can be substantially decreased and the outage probability is significantly decreased by the proposed power allocation scheme when two source nodes have different QoS requirement. The growing popularity of machine-to-machine (M2M) communications in wireless networks is driving the need to update the corresponding receiver technology based on the characteristics of M2M. In this paper, an expectation-maximization-based maximum likelihood cascaded channel estimation method is developed for relay-based M2M two-way communications. As the closed-form solution of maximum likelihood channel estimation does not exist, and the superimposed signal structure at the receiver is conducive to the expectation-maximization application, the expectation-maximization algorithm is utilized to provide the maximum likelihood solution in the presence of unobserved data through stable iterations. Even in the absence of the training sequence, the cascaded channel estimates are obtained through the expectation-maximization iterations. In the communications literature, a number of different algorithms have been proposed for channel estimation problems with the statistics of the channel noise and observation noise exactly known. In practical systems, however, the channel parameters are often estimated using training sequences which lead to the statistics of the channel noise difficult to obtain. Moreover, the received signals are corrupted not only by the ambient noises but also by multiple-access interferences, so the statistics of observation noises is also difficult to obtain. In this paper, we will investigate the H8 channel estimation problem for direct-sequence code-divisionmultipleaccess (DS-CDMA) communication systems with time-varying multipath fading channels. The channel estimator is designed by applying a partial difference equation approach together with the innovation analysis theory. Evolutionary algorithms, in particular particle swarm optimization (PSO), have recently received much attention. PSO has successfully been applied to a wide range of technical optimization problems, including channel estimation. However, most publications in the area of digital communications ignore improvements developed by the PSO community. In this paper, an overview of the original PSO is given as well as improvements that are generally applicable. An extension of PSO termed cooperative PSO (CPSO) is applied for MIMO channel estimation, providing faster convergence and, thus, lower overall complexity. Instead of determining the average iterations needed empirically, a method to calculate the maximum number of iterations is developed, which enables the evaluation of the complexity for a wide range of parameters. Knowledge of the required number of iterations is essential for a practical receiver design. A detailed discussion about the complexity of the PSO algorithm and a comparison to a conventional minimum mean squared error (MMSE) estimator are given. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) are generally known as the effective techniques for high data rate services. In MIMO/OFDM systems, the channel estimation (CE) is very important to obtain an accurate channel state information (CSI). However, since the orthogonal pilot-based CE requires the large number of pilot symbols, the total transmission rate is degraded. To mitigate this problem, a high time resolution carrier interferometry (HTRCI) for MIMO/OFDM has been proposed. In wireless communication systems, if the maximum delay spread is longer than the guard interval (GI), the system performance is significantly degraded due to the intersymbol interference (ISI) and intercarrier interference (ICI). However, the conventional HTRCI-MIMO/OFDM does not consider the case with the time-variant large delay spread longer than the GI. High-precision in-vehicle localization is the basis for both in-vehicle location-based service and the analysis of the driver or passengers' behaviors. However, interferences like effects of multipath and reflection of the signals significantly raise great challenges to the positioning accuracy at in-vehicle environment. This article presents a novel high-precision in-vehicle localization method, namely, the LOC-in-a-Car, based on functional exploration and full use of multi-channel received signal strength indicator of Bluetooth Low Energy. To achieve higher positioning precision, a hierarchical computation algorithm based on Adaboost and support vector machine is proposed in our method. In particular, we also proposed a device calibration method to deal with the heterogeneity of different smartphone terminals. We developed an Android app as a component in which the channel time-sharing acquisition method is fulfilled, enabling smartphones to distinguish data from multi-channels. The system performance is verified via intensive experiments, of which the results show that our method can distinguish the locations of driver or passengers with an accuracy ranging from 86.80% to 92.02% for each seat on Nexus phone, and the overall accuracy is 89.86%, with standard deviation of 2.64%. On Huawei phone, the accuracy ranges from 85.43% to 93.33% with overall accuracy of 89.75% and standard deviation of 3.07%. Both outperform the existing methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
