We will provide statistical analysis of the square ratio of κ-μ and η-μ random processes and its application in the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) based performance analysis of wireless transmission subjected to the influence of multipath fading, modelled by κ-μ fading model, and undesired occurrence of co-channel interference (CCI), distributed as η-μ random process. First contribution of the paper is deriving exact closed expressions for the probability density function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) of square ratio of κ-μ and η-μ random processes. Further, a verification of accuracy of these PDF and CDF expressions was given by comparison with the corresponding approximations obtained by the high-precision quadrature formulas of Gaussian type with respect to the weight functions on (0,+∞). The computational procedure of such quadrature rules is provided by using the constructive theory of orthogonal polynomials and the MATHEMATICA package OrthogonalPolynomials created by Cvetković and Milovanović (2004). Capitalizing on obtained expression, important wireless performance criteria, namely, outage probability (OP), have been obtained, as functions of transmission parameters. Also, possible performance improvement is observed through a glance at SC (selection combining) reception employment based on obtained expressions.

Recently it becomes a growing trend to study complex systems which contain multiple computer codes with different levels of accuracy, and a number of hierarchical Gaussian process models are proposed to handle such multiple-fidelity codes. This paper derives the best linear unbiased prediction for three popular classes of multiple-level Gaussian process models. The predictors all have explicit expressions at each untried point. Empirical best linear unbiased predictors are also provided by plug-in methods with generalized maximum likelihood estimators of unknown parameters.

The dynamics of a discrete-time predator-prey system with Ivlev functional response is investigated in this paper. The conditions of existence for flip bifurcation and Hopf bifurcation in the interior of R+2 are derived by using the center manifold theorem and bifurcation theory. Numerical simulations are presented not only to substantiate our theoretical results but also to illustrate the complex dynamical behaviors of the system such as attracting invariant circles, periodic-doubling bifurcation leading to chaos, and periodic-halving phenomena. In addition, the maximum Lyapunov exponents are numerically calculated to confirm the dynamical complexity of the system. Finally, we compare the system to discrete systems with Holling-type functional response with respect to dynamical behaviors.

This study aimed to construct a kernel Fisher discriminant analysis (KFDA) method from well logs for lithology identification purposes. KFDA, via the use of a kernel trick, greatly improves the multiclassification accuracy compared with Fisher discriminant analysis (FDA). The optimal kernel Fisher projection of KFDA can be expressed as a generalized characteristic equation. However, it is difficult to solve the characteristic equation; therefore, a regularized method is used for it. In the absence of a method to determine the value of the regularized parameter, it is often determined based on expert human experience or is specified by tests. In this paper, it is proposed to use an improved KFDA (IKFDA) to obtain the optimal regularized parameter by means of a numerical method. The approach exploits the optimal regularized parameter selection ability of KFDA to obtain improved classification results. The method is simple and not computationally complex. The IKFDA was applied to theIrisdata sets for training and testing purposes and subsequently to lithology data sets. The experimental results illustrated that it is possible to successfully separate data that is nonlinearly separable, thereby confirming that the method is effective.

This paper is concerned with the scattering problem of a rectangular cavity. We solve this problem by a least-squares nonpolynomial finite element method. In the method, we use Fourier-Bessel functions to capture the behaviors of the total field around corners. And the scattered field towards infinity is represented by a combination of half-space Green functions. Then we analyze the convergence and give an error estimate of the method. By coupling the least-squares nonpolynomial finite element method and the Newton method, we proposed an algorithm for the inverse scattering problem. Numerical experiments are presented to show the effectiveness of our method.

The stability and the stabilization problems for a class of continuous-time switched systems with state constraints via a mode-dependent switching method are investigated. The paper presents an improved average dwell time method, which considers different decay rates of a Lyapunov function related to each of the active subsystems according to whether the saturations occur or not, respectively. It is shown that the improved average dwell time method is less conservative than the common average dwell time method. Based on the improved average dwell time method, the sufficient conditions and state feedback controllers for stabilization of the switched system are derived. A numerical example is given to illustrate the proposed approach.

Exponential cluster synchronization of neural networks with proportional delays is studied in this paper. Unlike previous constant delay or bounded time delay, we consider the time-varying proportional delay is unbounded, less conservative, and more widely applied. Furthermore, we designed a novel adaptive controller based on Lyapunov function and inequality technique to achieve exponential cluster synchronization for neural networks and by using a unique way of equivalent system we proved the main conclusions. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.

In an article published in 1980, Farahat and Peel realized the irreducible modular representations of the symmetric group. One year later, Al-Aamily, Morris, and Peel constructed the irreducible modular representations for a Weyl group of typeBn. In both cases, combinatorial methods were used. Almost twenty years later, using a geometric construction based on the ideas of Macdonald, first Aguado and Araujo and then Araujo, Bigeón, and Gamondi also realized the irreducible modular representations for the Weyl groups of typesAnandBn. In this paper, we extend the geometric construction based on the ideas of Macdonald to realize the irreducible modular representations of the complex reflection group of typeG(m,1,n).

This paper presents a high-performance nonsingular terminal sliding mode control method for uncertain second-order nonlinear systems. First, a nonsingular terminal sliding mode surface is introduced to eliminate the singularity problem that exists in conventional terminal sliding mode control. By using this method, the system not only can guarantee that the tracking errors reach the reference value in a finite time with high-precision tracking performance but also can overcome the complex-value and the restrictions of the exponent (the exponent should be fractional number with an odd numerator and an odd denominator) in traditional terminal sliding mode. Then, in order to eliminate the chattering phenomenon, a super-twisting higher-order nonsingular terminal sliding mode control method is proposed. The stability of the closed-loop system is established using the Lyapunov theory. Finally, simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The stability of autonomous dynamical switched systems is analyzed by means of multiple Lyapunov functions. The stability theorems given in this paper have finite number of conditions to check. It is shown that linear functions can be used as Lyapunov functions. An example of an exponentially asymptotically stable switched system formed by four unstable systems is also given.

A theoretic formulation on how traffic time information distributed by ITS operations influences the trajectory of network flows is presented in this paper. The interactions between users and ITS operator are decomposed into three parts: (i) travel time induced path flow dynamics (PFDTT); (ii) demand induced path flow dynamics (PFDD); and (iii) predicted travel time dynamics for an origin-destination (OD) pair (PTTDOD). PFDTT describes the collective results of user’s daily route selection by pairwise comparison of path travel time provided by ITS services. The other two components, PTTDOD and PFDD, are concentrated on the evolutions of system variables which are predicted and observed, respectively, by ITS operators to act as a benchmark in guiding the target system towards an expected status faster. In addition to the delivered modelings, the stability theorem of the equilibrium solution in the sense of Lyapunov stability is also provided. A Lyapunov function is developed and employed to the proof of stability theorem to show the asymptotic behavior of the aimed system. The information of network flow dynamics plays a key role in traffic control policy-making. The evaluation of ITS-based strategies will not be reasonable without a well-established modeling of network flow evolutions.

The purpose of this paper is to study the Chebyshev polynomials for the solution of a class of variable order fractional integral-differential equation. The properties of Chebyshev polynomials together with the four kinds of operational matrixes of Chebyshev polynomials are used to reduce the problem to the solution of a system of algebraic equations. By solving the algebraic equations, the numerical solutions are acquired. Further some numerical examples are shown to illustrate the accuracy and reliability of the proposed approach and the results have been compared with the exact solution.

This paper is concerned with the stability analysis of discrete-time Markov jump linear systems (MJLSs) with time-varying delay and partly known transition probabilities. The time delay is varying between lower and upper bounds, and the partly known transition probabilities cover the cases of known, uncertain with known lower and upper bounds, and completely unknown, which is more general than the existing result. Via constructing an appropriate Lyapunov function and employing a new technique to separate Lyapunov variables from unknown transition probabilities, a novel stability criterion is obtained in the framework of linear matrix inequality. A numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

For radar imaging, a target usually has only a few strong scatterers which are sparsely distributed. In this paper, we propose a compressive sensing MIMO radar imaging algorithm based on smoothedl0norm. An approximate hyperbolic tangent function is proposed as the smoothed function to measure the sparsity. A revised Newton method is used to solve the optimization problem by deriving the new revised Newton directions for the sequence of approximate hyperbolic tangent functions. In order to improve robustness of the imaging algorithm, main value weighted method is proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is superior to Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP), smoothedl0method (SL0), and Bayesian method with Laplace prior in performance of sparse signal reconstruction. Two-dimensional image quality of MIMO radar using the new method has great improvement comparing with aforementioned reconstruction algorithm.

Heavy metals are commonly regarded as environmentally aggressive and hazardous to human health. Among the different metals, lead plays an important economic role due to its large use in the automotive industry, being an essential component of batteries. Different approaches have been reported in the literature aimed at lead removal, and among them a very successful one considers the use of water hyacinths for sorption-based operation. The modeling of the metal sorption kinetics is a fundamental step towards in-depth studies and proper separation equipment design and optimization. Fractional calculus represents a novel approach and a growing research field for process modeling, which is based on the successful use of derivatives of arbitrary order. This paper reports the modeling of the kinetics of lead sorption by water hyacinths (Eichhornia crassipes) using a fractional calculus. A general procedure on error analysis is also employed to prove the actual fractional nature of the proposed model by the use of parametric variance analysis, which was carried out using two different approaches (with the complete Hessian matrix and with a simplified Hessian matrix). The joint parameter confidence regions were generated, allowing to successfully show the fractional nature of the model and the sorption process.

This paper investigates the problem of global stabilization for a class of switched nonlinear systems using multiple Lyapunov functions (MLFs). The restrictions on nonlinearities are neither linear growth condition nor Lipschitz condition with respect to system states. Based on adding a power integrator technique, we design homogeneous state feedback controllers of all subsystems and a switching law to guarantee that the closed-loop system is globally asymptotically stable. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the validity of the proposed control scheme.

The nonlinear parametric vibration of an axially moving string made by rubber-like materials is studied in the paper. The fractional viscoelastic model is used to describe the damping of the string. Then, a new nonlinear fractional mathematical model governing transverse motion of the string is derived based on Newton’s second law, the Euler beam theory, and the Lagrangian strain. Taking into consideration the fractional calculus law of Riemann-Liouville form, the principal parametric resonance is analytically investigated via applying the direct multiscale method. Numerical results are presented to show the influences of the fractional order, the stiffness constant, the viscosity coefficient, and the axial-speed fluctuation amplitude on steady-state responses. It is noticeable that the amplitudes and existing intervals of steady-state responses predicted by Kirchhoff’s fractional material model are much larger than those predicted by Mote’s fractional material model.

In this paper, numerical simulations of flow past four square-arranged cylinders are carried out at different spacing ratios (1.5≤L/D≤5.0; L is the center to center distance; D is the cylinder diameter) and Reynolds numbers (100≤Re≤1000). The effects of spacing ratio and Reynolds number on the wake flow characteristics are investigated, such as the instantaneous vorticity contours, force coefficients, and vortex shedding frequencies. The results show that the flow characteristics behind the four-cylinder cases are significantly affected by the spacing ratios and Reynolds numbers. At the same spacing ratio, the transformation of flow pattern is advanced quickly with increasing of Reynolds numbers, the values of force coefficients are correspondingly fluctuated with large amplitude, and the vortex shedding frequency is increased significantly with Re.

This paper investigates the generalized pattern of Poisson summation formulae from the special affine Fourier transform (SAFT) and offset Hilbert transform (OHT) points of view. Several novel summation formulae are derived accordingly. Firstly, the relationship between SAFT (or OHT) and Fourier transform (FT) is obtained. Then, the generalized Poisson sum formulae are obtained based on above relationships. The novel results can be regarded as the generalizations of the classical results in several transform domains such as FT, fractional Fourier transform, and the linear canonical transform.

Cuttings transport problem has long been recognized as one of the key difficulties in drilling horizontal wells, and the models in cuttings transport research are usually formulated with highly nonlinear equations set. When using Newton methods to solve real engineering problems with nonlinear equations set, the problems of result dependence on initial values, Jacobian matrix singularity, and variable outflow of its definition domain in iterations are three of the often-encountered difficulties. In this paper, the ant colony algorithm is applied to solve the two-layer cuttings transport model with highly nonlinear equations set. The solution-searching process of solving nonlinear equations set is transformed into an optimization process of searching the minimum value of an objective function by applying ant colony algorithm. Analyzing the results of the example, it can be concluded that ant colony algorithm can be used to solve the highly nonlinear cuttings transport model with good solution accuracy; transforming the solution-searching process of solving nonlinear equations set into an optimization process of searching the minimum value of the objective function is necessary; the real engineering problem should be simplified as much as possible to decrease the number of unknown variables and facilitate the use of ant colony algorithm.

As a special three-block separable convex programming, the stable principal component pursuit (SPCP) arises in many different disciplines, such as statistical learning, signal processing, and web data ranking. In this paper, we propose a proximal fully parallel splitting method (PFPSM) for solving SPCP, in which the resulting subproblems all admit closed-form solutions and can be solved in distributed manners. Compared with other similar algorithms in the literature, PFPSM attaches a Glowinski relaxation factor η∈3/2,2/3 to the updating formula for its Lagrange multiplier, which can be used to accelerate the convergence of the generated sequence. Under mild conditions, the global convergence of PFPSM is proved. Preliminary computational results show that the proposed algorithm works very well in practice.

A delayed SEIQRS worm propagation model with different infection rates for the exposed computers and the infectious computers is investigated in this paper. The results are given in terms of the local stability and Hopf bifurcation. Sufficient conditions for the local stability and the existence of Hopf bifurcation are obtained by using eigenvalue method and choosing the delay as the bifurcation parameter. In particular, the direction and the stability of the Hopf bifurcation are investigated by means of the normal form theory and center manifold theorem. Finally, a numerical example is also presented to support the obtained theoretical results.

Pseudospectral methods and differential quadrature methods are two kinds of important meshless methods, both of which have been widely used in scientific and engineering calculation. The Lagrange interpolation polynomials are used as the trial function of the two methods, and the same distribution of grid points is used. This paper points out that the differential quadrature method is a special form of the pseudospectral method. On the basis of the above, a coupled pseudospectral-differential quadrature method (PSDQM) is proposed to solve a class of hyperbolic telegraph equations. Theoretical analysis and numerical tests show that the new method has spectral precision convergence in spatial domain and has A-stability in time domain. And it is suitable for solving multidimensional telegraph equations.

We have presented the efficient techniques for the solutions of large-scale sparse projected periodic discrete-time Lyapunov equations in lifted form. These types of problems arise in model reduction and state feedback problems of periodic descriptor systems. Two most popular techniques to solve such Lyapunov equations iteratively are the low-rank alternating direction implicit (LR-ADI) method and the low-rank Smith method. The main contribution of this paper is to update the LR-ADI method by exploiting the ideas of the adaptive shift parameters computation and the efficient handling of complex shift parameters. These approaches efficiently reduce the computational cost with respect to time and memory. We also apply these iterative Lyapunov solvers in balanced truncation model reduction of periodic discrete-time descriptor systems. We illustrate numerical results to show the performance and accuracy of the proposed methods.

One of the most common artifacts in digital photography is motion blur. When capturing an image under dim light by using a handheld camera, the tendency of the photographer’s hand to shake causes the image to blur. In response to this problem, image deblurring has become an active topic in computational photography and image processing in recent years. From the view of signal processing, image deblurring can be reduced to a deconvolution problem if the kernel function of the motion blur is assumed to be shift invariant. However, the kernel function is not always shift invariant in real cases; for example, in-plane rotation of a camera or a moving object can blur different parts of an image according to different kernel functions. An image that is degraded by multiple blur kernels is called a nonuniform blur image. In this paper, we propose a novel single image deblurring algorithm for nonuniform motion blur images that is blurred by moving object. First, a proposed uniform defocus map method is presented for measurement of the amounts and directions of motion blur. These blurred regions are then used to estimate point spread functions simultaneously. Finally, a fast deconvolution algorithm is used to restore the nonuniform blur image. We expect that the proposed method can achieve satisfactory deblurring of a single nonuniform blur image.

A nutrient-phytoplankton-zooplankton model is established, where harvest effort on phytoplankton population and seasonal intrinsic growth of nutrient biomass are considered. Positivity and boundedness of solutions of model system are studied. By analyzing the characteristic equation of linearized system corresponding to the proposed model system, local asymptotic stability around interior equilibrium is studied, which reveals that interior equilibrium loses its stability at some critical value of predation rate. By utilizing Poincaré surface of section and computation of Lyapunov exponents, numerical experiments are performed to discuss the complex dynamical behavior of model system. Model system shows rich dynamic behavior including limit cycle and chaotic attractor due to variation of predation rate and seasonal intrinsic growth rate. Further numerical experiments show that reasonable harvesting has stabilizing effect on population dynamics that prevents chaotic behavior. Numerical simulations are carried out to show consistency with theoretical analysis obtained in this paper.

Based on a nonlinear consensus protocol, this paper considers the group synchronization of complex dynamical networks with sampled data. Using the Lyapunov method, the group synchronization of the nonlinear complex networks is analyzed. All the nodes in each group can converge to their own synchronous state asymptotically, if the sampled period satisfies some matrix inequality conditions. Furthermore, the theoretical results are verified by some simulations.

This paper provides a Legendre transform method to deal with a class of investment and consumption problems, whose objective function is to maximize the expected discount utility of intermediate consumption and terminal wealth in the finite horizon. Assume that risk preference of the investor is described by hyperbolic absolute risk aversion (HARA) utility function, which includes power utility, exponential utility, and logarithm utility as special cases. The optimal investment and consumption strategy for HARA utility is explicitly obtained by applying dynamic programming principle and Legendre transform technique. Some special cases are also discussed.

Wave propagation in unbounded domains is one of the important engineering problems. There have been many attempts by researchers to solve this problem. This paper intends to shed a light on the finite point method, which is considered as one of the best methods to be used for solving problems of wave propagation in unbounded domains. To ensure the reliability of finite point method, wave propagation in unbounded domain is compared with the sinusoidal unit point stimulation. Results indicate that, in the case of applying stimulation along one direction of a Cartesian coordinate, the results of finite point method parallel to the stimulation have less error in comparison with the results of finite element method along the same direction with the same stimulation. In this paper, the differential transformation method is applied to the system of Volterra integral and integrodifferential equations with proportional delays. The method is useful for both linear and nonlinear equations. By using this method, the solutions are obtained in series forms. If the solutions of the problem can be expanded to Taylor series, then the method gives opportunity to determine the coefficients of Taylor series. Hence, the exact solution can be obtained in Taylor series form. In illustrative examples, the method is applied to a few types of systems.

Recently, the Edgeworth expansion up to order 4 was used to represent the convolutional noise probability density function (pdf) in the conditional expectation calculations where the source pdf was modeled with the maximum entropy density approximation technique. However, the applied Lagrange multipliers were not the appropriate ones for the chosen model for the convolutional noise pdf. In this paper we use the Edgeworth expansion up to order 4 and up to order 6 to model the convolutional noise pdf. We derive the appropriate Lagrange multipliers, thus obtaining new closed-form approximated expressions for the conditional expectation and mean square error (MSE) as a byproduct. Simulation results indicate hardly any equalization improvement with Edgeworth expansion up to order 4 when using optimal Lagrange multipliers over a nonoptimal set. In addition, there is no justification for using the Edgeworth expansion up to order 6 over the Edgeworth expansion up to order 4 for the 16QAM and easy channel case. However, Edgeworth expansion up to order 6 leads to improved equalization performance compared to the Edgeworth expansion up to order 4 for the 16QAM and hard channel case as well as for the case where the 64QAM is sent via an easy channel.

Spanning trees have been found to be structures of paramount importance in both theoretical and practical problems. In this paper we derive new formulas for the complexity, number of spanning trees, of some products of complete and complete bipartite graphs such as Cartesian product, normal product, composition product, tensor product, symmetric product, and strong sum, using linear algebra and matrix theory techniques.

This paper investigates the disturbance attraction domain estimation of saturated Markov jump systems with truncated Gaussian process. The aim is to estimate the disturbance domain of attraction so that the state is maintained in a neighbour around the origin by a state feedback controller regardless of bounded disturbance. The problem is formulated as parameter-dependent linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The optimal disturbance attraction domain is obtained through searching for most appropriate auxiliary parameters in the defined domain. A numerical example is presented to show the potential application of the results.

This paper proposes an approach to identifying time-varying structural modal parameters using the Hilbert transform and empirical mode decomposition. Definition of instantaneous frequency and instantaneous damping ratio based on Hilbert transform for single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) system is first introduced. The following is the definition of Hilbert damping spectrum from which the time-varying damping ratio of multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) system can be calculated. Identification procedures for both instantaneous frequency and damping ratios based on their definition are then introduced. Applicability of the proposed identification algorithm has been validated through several numerical examples. The instantaneous frequency and damping ratios of SDOF system under free vibration and under sinusoidal and white noise excitation have been identified. The proposed method is also applied to MDOF system with slow and sudden changing structural parameters. The results demonstrate that when the system modal parameters are slowly changing, the instantaneous frequency could be easily and well identified with satisfied accuracy for all cases. However, the instantaneous damping ratio could be extracted only when the system is lightly damped. The damping results are better for free vibration situation than for the forced vibration cases. It is also shown that the suggested method can easily track the abrupt change of system modal parameter under free vibration. The proposed method is then applied to a 12-story short-lag shear wall structure model tested on a shaking table. The instantaneous dynamic properties of the structure were identified and were then introduced as known parameters into a finite element model. Comparisons with the numerical results using constant structural parameters demonstrate that the calculated structural responses using the identified time-varying parameters are much closer to the experimental results.

Finite-time stability has more practical application values than the classical Lyapunov asymptotic stability over a fixed finite-time interval. The problems of finite-time stability and finite-time boundedness for a class of continuous switched descriptor systems are considered in this paper. Based on the average dwell time approach and the multiple Lyapunov functions technique, the concepts of finite-time stability and boundedness are extended to continuous switched descriptor systems. In addition, sufficient conditions for the existence of state feedback controllers in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) are obtained with arbitrary switching rules, which guarantee that the switched descriptor system is finite-time stable and finite-time bounded, respectively. Finally, two numerical examples are presented to illustrate the reasonableness and effectiveness of the proposed results.

This paper is concerned with a reliable treatment of the Stephan problem with variable latent heat. The power series solutions have been presented. The method is examined for computational efficiency and accuracy. Also, an analytical solution based on a similarity variable is presented in the case when the Dirichlet boundary condition at the water-ice interface depends on time.

The passive fuzzy control for discrete-time uncertain Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy models with multiplicative noises and time delay is investigated subject to robust asymptotical stability. Applying Jensen’s inequality and free-weighting matrix technique, less conservative sufficient conditions are derived via choosing Lyapunov function to analyze and synthesize the robust asymptotical stability and passivity of closed-loop system. The derived conditions are not strictly linear matrix inequality (LMI) problems, thus the cone complementarity technique is employed to propose a suboptimal technique to solve the proposed nonstrictly LMI problems. An algorithm is developed in this paper to design the fuzzy controller which can be accomplished by state-feedback scheme or output-feedback scheme. Finally, numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the feasibility and applicability of the proposed fuzzy controller design technique.

This paper describes a new speech enhancement approach which employs the minimum mean square error (MMSE) estimator based on the generalized gamma distribution of the short-time spectral amplitude (STSA) of a speech signal. In the proposed approach, the human perceptual auditory masking effect is incorporated into the speech enhancement system. The algorithm is based on a criterion by which the audible noise may be masked rather than being attenuated, thereby reducing the chance of speech distortion. Performance assessment is given to show that our proposal can achieve a more significant noise reduction as compared to the perceptual modification of Wiener filtering and the gamma based MMSE estimator.

Fault detection (FD) for non-Gaussian stochastic systems with time-varying delay is studied. The available information for the addressed problem is the input and the measured output probability density functions (PDFs) of the system. In this framework, firstly, by constructing an augmented Lyapunov functional, which involves some slack variables and a tuning parameter, a delay-dependent condition for the existence of FD observer is derived in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI) and the fault can be detected through a threshold. Secondly, in order to improve the detection sensitivity performance, the optimal algorithm is applied to minimize the threshold value. Finally, paper-making process example is given to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed approach.

Partial model matching approaches are important to target recognition. In this paper, aiming at a 3D model, a novel solution utilizing Gaussian curvature and mean curvature to represent the inherent structure of a spatial shape is proposed. Firstly, a Point-Pair Set is constructed by means of filtrating points with a similar inherent characteristic in the partial surface. Secondly, a Triangle-Pair Set is demonstrated after locating the spatial model by asymmetry triangle skeleton. Finally, after searching similar triangles in a Point-Pair Set, optimal transformation is obtained by computing the scoring function in a Triangle-Pair Set, and optimal matching is determined. Experiments show that this algorithm is suitable for partial model matching. Encouraging matching efficiency, speed, and running time complexity to irregular models are indicated in the study.

Multifingered robots play an important role in manipulation applications. They can grasp various shaped objects to perform point-to-point movement. It is important to plan the motion path of the object and appropriately control the grasping forces for multifingered robot manipulation. In this paper, we perform the optimal grasping control to find both optimal motion path of the object and minimum grasping forces in the manipulation. The rigid body dynamics of the object and the grasping forces subjected to the second-order cone (SOC) constraints are considered in optimal control problem. The minimum principle is applied to obtain the system equalities and the SOC complementarity problems. The SOC complementarity problems are further recast as the equations with the Fischer-Burmeister (FB) function. Since the FB function is semismooth, the semismooth Newton method with the generalized Jacobian of FB function is used to solve the nonlinear equations. The 2D and 3D simulations of grasping manipulation are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

The aim of this paper is to extend the use of homotopy perturbation method (HPM) to study the solutions for some important generalized nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs) such as Fisher equation with convection term, Sharma-Tasso-Olver (STO) equation, and Fitzhugh-Nagumo (FN) equation.

This paper deals with the problem of filtering for discrete-time Markovian jump linear systems. Predicted and filtered estimates are obtained based on the game theory. Both filters are solved through recursive algorithms. The Markovian system considered assumes that the jump parameters are not accessible. Necessary and sufficient conditions are provided to the existence of the filters. A numerical example is provided in order to show the effectiveness of the approach proposed.

This paper presents a new hyperchaotic system by introducing an additional state variable into Lorenz system. The system’s characteristics, including the dissipativity, equilibrium, and Lyapunov exponents, are studied. A controller is developed which consists of an active control term and a variable universe adaptive fuzzy system. By using this controller, the synchronization of the new hyperchaotic systems with uncertain linear part is accomplished according to Lyapunov’s direct method. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Recently, a closed-form approximated expression was derived by the same author for the achievable residual intersymbol interference (ISI) case that depends on the step-size parameter, equalizer's tap length, input signal statistics, signal to noise ratio (SNR), and channel power and is valid for fractional Gaussian noise (fGn) input where the Hurst exponent is in the region of . But this expression was obtained for the blind adaptive case and cannot be applied to the nonblind adaptive version. Up to now, the achievable residual ISI for the non-blind adaptive case could be obtained only via simulation. In this paper, we derive a closed-form approximated expression (or an upper limit) for the residual ISI obtained by non-blind adaptive equalizers valid for fractional Gaussian noise (fGn) input where the Hurst exponent is in the region of . This new obtained expression depends on the step-size parameter, equalizer's tap length, input signal statistics, SNR, channel power, and the Hurst exponent parameter. Simulation results indicate that there is a high correlation between the calculated results (obtained from the new obtained expression for the residual ISI) and those obtained from simulating the system.

Using the base forces as fundamental variables to describe the stress state and the displacement gradients that are the conjugate variables of the base forces to describe the deformation state for the two-dimensional elasticity problems, a 4-mid-node plane model of base force element method (BFEM) based on complementary energy principle is proposed. In this paper, the complementary energy of an element of the BFEM is constructed by using the base forces. The equilibrium conditions are released by the Lagrange multiplier method, and a modified complementary energy principle described by the base forces is obtained. The formulation of the 4-mid-node plane element of the BFEM is derived by assuming that the stress is uniformly distributed on each edge of the plane elements. A procedure of the BFEM on complementary energy principle is developed using MATLAB language. The numerical results of examples show that this model of the BFEM has high precision and is free from mesh sensitivity. This model shows good performances.

The problem of the static stress intensity factor around antiplane crack in an infinite strip functionally graded material was studied by using the method of integral transform-dual integral equations in this paper. The shear modulus in the two principal directions of the functionally graded material was assumed to vary proportionately as gradient model of double parameters index function. The partial differential equation was first reduced to Euler equation with Fourier cosine transform. By solving dual integral equations that were derived by applying the solution of Euler equation with the method of Copson, stress intensity factor around the crack tip was derived. And the variation curves of the dimensionless stress intensity factor with the strip height, crack length, gradient parameter, and inhomogeneous coefficient are obtained by using the numerical calculation.

This paper considers the problem of delay-dependent stability andl1-gain analysis for positive 2D systems with state delays described by the Roesser model. Firstly, the copositive-type Lyapunov function method is used to establish the sufficient conditions for the addressed positive 2D system to be asymptotically stable. Then,l1-gain performance for the system is also analyzed. All the obtained results are formulated in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) which are computationally tractable. Finally, an illustrative example is given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed results.

This paper focuses on theoretical analysis of second-order consensus in multiagent system. As an extension of the general linear protocol, a nonlinear protocol is designed for multiagent system with undirected communication topology. The nonlinear protocol is also applied to achieve reference velocity consensus. Through choosing the appropriate Lyapunov functions and using LaSalle’s invariance principle, some consensus conditions are derived. Simulation examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed results.

This paper is concerned with a state observer-based sliding mode control design methodology for a class of continuous-time state-delayed switched systems with unmeasurable states and nonlinear uncertainties. The advantages of the proposed scheme mainly lie in which it eliminates the need for state variables to be full accessible and parameter uncertainties to be satisfied with the matching condition. Firstly, a state observer is constructed, and a sliding surface is designed. By matrix transformation techniques, combined with Lyapunov function and sliding surface function, a sufficient condition is given to ensure asymptotic stability of the overall closed-loop systems composed of the observer dynamics and the estimation error dynamics. Then, reachability of sliding surface is investigated. At last, an illustrative numerical example is presented to prove feasibility of the proposed approaches.
