In recent years, the environmental conditions in China have continued to deteriorate, and the pressure of environmental pollution and ecological deterioration has also increased. To strengthen environmental protection work, we must not only pay attention to the natural causes of environmental pollution but also find the social causes of its occurrence. Only in this way can environmental protection and social construction promote each other and develop together. The relationship between the public's environmental protection awareness (including environmental protection knowledge and environmental awareness) and environmental behavior is a research problem with important theoretical and practical significance. Based on the perspective of planned behavior theory, this paper derives the following research hypothesis: the more the public's knowledge of environmental protection, the deeper their understanding of the importance of environmental issues, which will directly promote the public's adoption of environmental behavior. The richer the environmental behavior, the more likely it will affect the environmental cognition that includes the two dimensions of subjective psychological will and the perception of environmental pollution, and then the environmental behavior. The state of the public's environmental cognition will also directly affect the environmental behavior. This paper analyzes China's CGSS2013 data, and the results show that there is a correlation between environmental protection awareness and environmental behavior. Introduction: Cancer patients and caregivers have myriad unmet needs which can have detrimental consequences on their psychosocial wellbeing. This systematic review aims to identify the unmet supportive care needs of immigrant and native Chinese cancer patients and caregivers. Methods: We systematically searched various electronic databases (e.g. Scopus, CINAHL, PsycInfo, etc.) from the earliest date available until January 2018. Additional studies were identified through reference lists and citation tracking. Eligibility criteria included: (a) qualitative, quantitative and/or mixed methods studies published in English; (b) immigrant and native Chinese cancer patients and/or caregivers (age ≥18 years); (c) unmet needs and/or their correlates. Studies were assessed for their risk of bias, and a narrative synthesis of findings was performed. Results: Forty‐seven papers from 45 studies met eligibility criteria. The most prevalent area of unmet needs was health system and information. Patients most commonly desired one member of the hospital to talk to about all aspects of their care. Caregivers preferred information about the patient's prognosis and likely outcome. Anxiety was most commonly associated with higher levels of health system and information needs. Conclusion: Chinese patients and caregivers experience a range of unmet health system and information needs, which differ depending on their stage along the cancer trajectory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Alterations of brain functional connectivity in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have been reported by resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging studies, but the underlying precise neuropathological mechanism remains unclear. This study is aimed at investigating the implicit alterations of functional connections in T2DM by integrating functional connectivity strength (FCS) and Granger causality analysis (GCA) and further exploring their associations with clinical characteristics. Sixty T2DM patients and thirty-three sex-, age-, and education-matched healthy controls (HC) were recruited. Global FCS analysis of resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging was performed to explore seed regions with significant differences between the two groups; then, GCA was applied to detect directional effective connectivity (EC) between the seeds and other brain regions. Correlations of EC with clinical variables were further explored in T2DM patients. Compared with HC, T2DM patients showed lower FCS in the bilateral fusiform gyrus, right superior frontal gyrus (SFG), and right postcentral gyrus, but higher FCS in the right supplementary motor area (SMA). Moreover, altered directional EC was found between the left fusiform gyrus and bilateral lingual gyrus and right medial frontal gyrus (MFG), as well as between the right SFG and bilateral frontal regions. In addition, triglyceride, insulin, and plasma glucose levels were correlated with the abnormal EC of the left fusiform, while disease duration and cognitive function were associated with the abnormal EC of the right SFG in T2DM patients. In view of the current problems in China's special education resource centers, such as lack of functional cognition and unreasonable architectural function and spatial organization, which result in the inability to coordinate regional education resources, the formulation and implementation of special education ISP program are undertaken, and the development of integrated education is promoted. This paper draws on the concept of integrated education in developed areas and the design wisdom of resource centers. The research is carried out from the perspective of meeting the behavior patterns and special needs of different users, and the perfect and reasonable functional composition and the key points of special space design are put forward, and the feasible design strategies are expressed through establishing the model and plane layout. Aim: This paper explored the general phenomenon and psychological experience of the special background communication in night shift medical staff and provides better reference for night shift communication between doctors and nurses. Background: Physician–nurse communication has always been an important agenda for health care work and an important concept in nursing theory. During night shifts, effective doctor and nurse communication can enhance mutual trust, provide timely and appropriate medical services to patients, reduce adverse events and enhance patient safety. Design: A qualitative study was conducted. Methods: Husserl's descriptive phenomenology method and semi‐structured in‐depth interviews were used to collect data from 8 nurses and 5 doctors. Colaizzi's method was used to analyse data using MAXQDA 12. The Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research (COREQ) checklist was followed (see Appendix S1). Results: Three themes were extracted after sorting out and refining: the need to achieve goals in night‐time physician–nurse communication; obstacles in night‐time physician–nurse communication; and relationship culture in night‐time physician–nurse communication. Conclusion: Attention should be paid to the particularity of night shift and efficiency of achieving the goal of communication between doctors and nurses on night shift, and the hidden obstacles behind communication between doctors and nurses. Managers should pay attention to the cultural construction of night shift communication in the system, form a good night shift communication process and regularly train doctors' and nurses' related communication skills. And they should also study relationship culture rationally to improve the communication efficiency of night shift. Implications for nursing management: The experiences described in this study contribute to a better understanding of obstacles hidden behind night shift physician–nurse communication. Background. Burnout is a common psychological syndrome among nurses, especially in the first few years of working. However, limited studies have evaluated the factors related to burnout among junior nurses. Aims. To investigate the levels of psychological flexibility, stress, and burnout among junior nurses and examine the role of demographic and workplace relationship factors, psychological flexibility, and perceived stress on burnout among junior nurses. Materials and Methods. A convenience sample of 481 junior nurses was recruited from three tertiary hospitals in China from July 2021 to August 2022. Data were collected, including demographic data, workplace relationships, psychological flexibility (measured by experiential avoidance and cognitive fusion), perceived stress, and burnout. The Independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Wilcoxon–Mann–Whitney test, Kruskal–Wallis test, Spearman correlation, and hierarchical regression were used to analyze the data. Results. Junior nurses had a high level of burnout in different dimensions. Nurses with an undergraduate education, nurses working in the first year, and a lack of support from supervisors and poor colleague (nurse-nurse and nurse-doctor) relationships had the lowest level of psychological flexibility and the highest level of perceived stress and burnout. Spearman correlation indicated that experiential avoidance, cognitive fusion, perceived stress, and burnout were positively associated with each other. The regression model showed that psychological flexibility (especially cognitive fusion) and perceived stress influenced burnout in junior nurses. Conclusions. Higher psychological flexibility and lower perceived stress appear to improve burnout in junior nurses. Therefore, interventions targeting these two factors may provide a viable direction for the reduction of burnout among junior nurses. Implications for Nursing Management. We aimed to assess the association between change in social participation and long‐term improved cognitive function among older adults. Data were obtained from 9648 participants aged ≥60 years in the 2011, 2014 and 2018 waves of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey, a national prospective cohort study. Cox regression models were used to calculate adjusted risk ratios (aRRs). Social participation was increased in 20.5% of the participants, decreased in 37.8% of the participants and stable in 41.7% of the participants from the 2011 wave to the 2014–2018 waves. The improved cognitive function rate was 17.9% at follow‐up. Compared to individuals with decreased social participation from the 2011 wave to the 2014–2018 waves, individuals with unchanged total social participation were 59% (aRR = 1.59, 95% CI: 1.35–1.87) more likely to have improved cognitive function in the 2014–2018 waves, and individuals with increased social participation were 61% (aRR = 1.61, 95% CI: 1.43–1.82) more likely to have improved cognitive function, regardless of the baseline social participation status. As for the three forms of social participation, compared with the participants with decreased social participation, those with increased participation in organised social activities, increased participation in group leisure‐time activities, unchanged informal social interactions and increased informal social interactions were 24% (aRR = 1.24, 95% CI: 1.02–1.51), 49% (aRR = 1.49, 95% CI: 1.21–1.84), 55% (aRR = 1.55, 95% CI: 1.37–1.76) and 57% (aRR = 1.57, 95% CI: 1.34–1.84) more likely to have improved cognitive function (all p < 0.05) respectively. The results were stable in the sensitivity analysis. Our findings highlight the importance of promoting social participation from a multidimensional perspective (duration, frequency and forms) to improve cognitive function among older adults, for policy makers and healthcare workers in the community. The water pollution affecting human health is a crisis and big test, which tests the mainstream news media's ability and level of communication to respond to major public opinions and public emergencies. The contaminated water is a crisis and a major test, which tests the ability and level of communication of major news outlets to respond to important common views and emergencies. It aims to understand the perception and attitude of the international mainstream media towards China during the contaminated water. The work sorted out the mainstream media's reporting of China from the contaminated water to the present and selected the New York Times, The Times, and the Guardian as examples. We could understand the changes in China's international image during the water pollution through these mainstream media reports on China. The results show that these media reports on water pollution in China mainly focused on negative public opinion, which accounted for more than 70% of the total number of reports. Western developed countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States are out of consideration for their national interests. Using mainstream media to create public opinion that is not conducive to China, advocating "neo-colonialism", "China threat theory" and other false statements, trying to limit China's influence, due to the difference in cognitive habits and the influence of British and American media hegemony also affects the country The communication and understanding between the two have brought obstacles. An increasing number of studies have focused on the relationship between neighbourhood environment and depressive symptoms among older people. However, the underlying mechanisms are still unclear. This study examined the association between neighbourhood environment and depressive symptoms among older urban Chinese adults and the mediator role of social capital in this association. Using a quota sampling approach, 472 respondents aged 60 years or older were recruited from 23 urban communities of Shanghai, China, in 2020. Depressive symptoms were measured with the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale. Social capital was measured by two latent constructs: cognitive social capital (e.g., trust, reciprocity, belongingness) and structural social capital (e.g., memberships, social participation). Perceived physical neighbourhood environment was assessed in terms of health care, security, and public transportation status. Structural equation modelling was conducted to test the study hypotheses. Health care services in the community had a direct effect on depressive symptoms (β = −0.097, p <.05). Cognitive social capital played a mediator role in the relationship between physical neighbourhood environment and depressive symptoms (community health care: β = −0.124, p <.01; community security: β = −0.284, p <.01). The mediator effect of structural social capital in the relationship between physical neighbourhood environment and depressive symptoms was not significant. The findings highlight the role of physical neighbourhood environment in fostering community‐based social capital and promoting mental health among older adults in urban China. Objective. The purpose of this study was to understand the current status and existing responses of obstetricians and obstetric nurses in Guangdong Province regarding sex education during pregnancy and to understand their acceptance of sex education during pregnancy and the knowledge and information they would like to obtain in sex education courses. Methods. A phenomenological research method was used to conduct in-depth interviews with 12 obstetricians and obstetric nurses in a tertiary hospital in Guangdong Province to understand their perceptions and attitudes toward providing sex education to pregnant women. A self-designed questionnaire was used to survey 462 obstetricians and obstetric nurses in Guangdong Province to understand their needs for sex education. Results. Three themes were summarized: insufficient awareness of sex education during pregnancy; negative attitudes of obstetricians and obstetric nurses toward sex education during pregnancy; and the need for a long-term process for the development and popularization of sex education during pregnancy. We obtained the required scores of obstetricians and obstetric nurses on 11 aspects of sex education during pregnancy with a coefficient of variation ≤25%. Conclusion. There is an urgent need to improve the awareness and related competencies of obstetricians and obstetric nurses about sex education during pregnancy, and the purpose and content of sex education courses should be in line with the clinical reality. Alzheimer's disease (AD) seriously damages elders' social and daily abilities around the world. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), a rich drug resource bank, could help research AD. In order to explore the role of TCM in AD treatment, 86 AD patients were recruited from the hospital, then treated with Hengqing II prescription and donepezil hydrochloride. The cognitive and serum lipid levels were investigated before and after treatment. The patient's urine was collected after three months of treatment. Metabolites in the urine samples were extracted with methanol and detected on the UHPLC-MS platform. Results proved that Hengqing II can improve cognitive levels and reduce the levels of Hcy, D-D, FIB, Apo B, TC, and LDL-C compared with donepezil hydrochloride (P < 0.05). The results of multivariate statistical analysis revealed that the metabolism of HQII was significantly different compared with Control groups. A total of 66 differential metabolites were found in this comparison (50 were down-regulated and 16 were up-regulated). Four amino acid pathways and one linoleic acid pathway were found through these metabolites. After receiver operating characteristic analysis, it was suggested that palmitic acid, palmitoleic acid, linoleic acid, oleic acid, SAH, and methionine can be used as biomarkers for treating AD, while the effects of daidzein, genistein, and naringenin on the treatment of AD need to be further studied. Since the mid‐1990s, information technology, particularly the diffusion of the internet, has brought tremendous changes to communication and social participation for people in China, including older adults. At the same time, modernisation and urbanisation have transformed the way many people in China live. The traditional multigenerational household—older adults living with adult children and grandchildren—is giving way to other living arrangements, such as living alone or with a spouse only. Using wave 1 of the World Health Organization Study on Global AGEing and Adult Health collected between 2007 and 2010, we examined the extent to which home internet access might be associated with cognitive function in older adults aged 50 or over in urban China (N = 5,898), paying attention to the moderating role of living arrangements. We found that home internet access was associated with better cognitive function, and living arrangements played an essential role in such an association for different age groups. Specifically, older adults living alone benefited cognitively from internet access, particularly among those aged 50–64 and 65–74. Those living with a spouse only and those in two‐generation households benefited cognitively from internet access, particularly among those aged 50–64 and 75+. Older adults age 75+ in skip‐generation households benefited cognitively from internet access. Considering the trend of older adults living apart from their children, our research suggests that providing internet access to older adults in urban China, especially those living alone, could help protect their cognitive function. Objective. A case-control study was conducted to explore the effect of acupuncture combined with rehabilitation training on limb function and nerve injury rehabilitation in elderly patients with stroke. Methods. A total of 72 elderly patients with stroke treated from March 2019 to June 2021 in our hospital were enrolled as the object of study. The clinical data were collected and divided into two groups according to their different treatment methods. The patients cured with routine treatment combined with rehabilitation training were taken as the control group and the patients cured with acupuncture combined with rehabilitation training as the study group. The clinical efficacy was recorded, and the cognition and activities of daily living were evaluated by Terrell Cognitive Assessment scale, limb motor function score, and activities of daily living scale. The National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) were employed to compare the neurological function before and after treatment. Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) and Disability Rating Scale (DRS) were adopted to evaluate the functional prognosis. The simplified Fugl-Meyer assessment of motor recovery score was employed to evaluate the limb function of the patients. The Wolf Motor Function Test (WMFT) score was adopted to evaluate the functional rehabilitation effect of the patients. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was adopted to determine the serum neurological function indexes such as nerve growth factor, Smur100B protein, and glial fibrillary acidic protein. The cerebral blood flow (CBF), peak time, average transit time, and cerebral blood volume were measured by CT perfusion imaging, and the incidence of side effects during treatment was recorded. Results. Regarding the recovery of cognitive function and daily function after treatment, after treatment, the MoCA and ADL scores were increased, and the comparison indicated that the MoCA and ADL scores of the study group were remarkably higher compared to the control group (P < 0.05). With regard to the FMA-UE scores after treatment, the Fugl-Meyer scores were gradually increased, and the Fugl-Meyer scores in the study group were remarkably higher compared to the control group (P < 0.05) in the next two months. After 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, and 6 weeks of treatment, the WMFT scores gradually increased, and the WMFT score of the study group was remarkably higher compared to the control group. After treatment, the levels of nerve growth factor and S-100B protein were decreased, and the level of glial fibrillary acidic protein was increased. Comparison between the two groups, it indicated the improvement degree of each neurological function index in the study group was remarkably better (P < 0.05). With regard to cerebral hemodynamic indexes after treatment, 1 week after treatment, the CBF and average transit time of the observation group were remarkably higher compared to the control group, and the levels of cerebral blood volume and peak time were remarkably lower compared to the control group (P < 0.05). After 4 weeks of treatment, the cerebral hemodynamic indexes of the observation group did not change remarkably, and they were all lower than 1 week after the treatment. In the terms of side effects, 1 case of limb dysfunction, 1 case of swallowing dysfunction, 1 case of electrolyte disturbance, and none of infection in the study group, the incidence of adverse reactions was 8.33%. In the control group, there were 3 cases of limb dysfunction, 2 cases of swallowing dysfunction, 2 cases of electrolyte disturbance, and 3 cases of infection, and the incidence of adverse reactions was 27.78%. Compared between groups, the incidence of adverse reactions in the study group was lower (P < 0.05). Conclusion. Early use of acupuncture combined with rehabilitation training has a remarkable therapeutic effect on elderly stroke patients. It can remarkably promote the recovery of the patient's condition, remarkably enhance their neurological function, cognitive function, motor function, and daily life function, and effectively strengthen the patient's prognosis score. This study investigated the moderating role of income in the relationship between community social capital and cognitive function among community‐dwelling older adults in rural China. Data were derived from a community survey conducted in Dongliao county, Jilin province, China, in 2019. Trained interviewers completed face‐to‐face interviews with 458 respondents. Multiple group analysis was applied to examine the proposed model. The latent constructs of cognitive social capital and structural social capital were established in low‐income and high‐income groups in rural Chinese contexts. Factor loading invariance of social capital constructs was established across the two income groups. The results showed that income has moderating effects on the relationship between social capital constructs and cognitive function. Social capital that was significantly associated with cognitive function was statistically significant in low‐income group only. The findings highlight the important role of income in understanding the mechanism linking social capital to cognitive function in a rural Chinese context. Few studies have assessed the impact of home and community‐based services (HCBSs) provision on cognitive function among older adults over time. This study examined the longitudinal association between HCBSs provision and cognitive function in Chinese older adults. The study included 5,134 participants aged 65 years and older in the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey from 2008 to 2014. The Mini‐Mental State Examination (MMSE) was used to evaluate cognitive function over the same time period. Participants were asked what kind of HCBSs were provided in his or her community. However, they were not asked whether services were utilised. The study used the number of HCBSs provided each wave to represent the strength of HCBSs, and used the MMSE score of each wave to represent the older adults' cognitive function status. A latent growth model was used to explore the relationship between HCBSs provision and cognitive function of older adults. The number of HCBSs provided was positively associated with older adults' cognitive function (2008: β = 0.03, p = 0.031; 2011: β = 0.06, p < 0.001; 2014: β = 0.06, p < 0.001) after controlling for gender, age, residence, education, income, medical insurance, activities of daily living disability, instrumental activities of daily living disability, serious illness, living arrangement and marital status. Background and Objective. Nursing staff's cognition and training willingness on early warning ability of inpatients is an important measure to reduce the occurrence of adverse events and severe disease. In this article, we aim to understand the cognition and training needs of nursing staff in a tertiary referral center in Changsha City, Hunan Province, on the early warning ability of inpatients with myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism, cerebral infarction, and dangerous hemorrhage (referred to as "three infarcts and one hemorrhage"). Methods. A total of 787 nursing staff in a tertiary referral center in Changsha City, Hunan Province, were selected using a convenient sampling method. We used an online questionnaire designed by ourselves to survey them. The content of the questionnaire primary included basic information, related knowledge of the nursing staff on the potential risk prediction and precontrol of inpatients with "three infarcts and one hemorrhage," relevant information on improving early warning scores, management of clinical early warning, training needs, and training methods. Results. Over 50% of the nursing staff had little understanding about the risk warning knowledge of inpatients with "three infracts and one hemorrhage," and the degree of understanding was related to education, job title, and working years. The nursing staff with higher education level or professional title or longer working experience have a better understanding of the risk warning knowledge of inpatients with "three infracts and one hemorrhage." Conclusion. The cognitive competence of nursing staff in a tertiary referral center in Changsha City, Hunan Province, on the early warning ability of inpatients with "three infarcts and one hemorrhage" needs to be improved. Medical institutions should actively train nursing staff on early warning ability for inpatients with "three infarcts and one hemorrhage" to improve the nursing staff's awareness and patients' safety and efficiency. This study explored the health effect of perceived built environment on depression of the Chinese elderly people in rural areas. A multifaceted approach in examining perceived built environment was used. A sample of 670 older residents in rural area of China were interviewed, and data were collected mainly for exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and moderation analysis. Results showed a reliable construct of perceived built environment which was developed by this study. A significant moderating role of personal income per month in the significantly negative relationship between perceived built environment and depression was confirmed. That is, the health effect of perceived built environment on depression became weakened among people of higher income levels. This study added evidence for the health effect of perceived built environment on depression among Chinese elderly people. Additionally, individual income was identified as an important influencing factor in such effect. Discussion on the negative relationship between perceived built environment and depression, as well as the moderating effect of personal income in such relationship were presented. It is an interesting clinical phenomenon that when evaluating the erectile function of men with erectile dysfunction by couples, respectively, using the erectile hardness model, there will exist the evaluation difference between men and their female partners. This phenomenon reflects the problem of communication and cognition between husband and wife in ED patients. To explore the influencing factors associated with this clinical phenomenon, we conducted this interesting, observational, and cross-sectional field survey. We enrolled 385 couples from the andrology clinics of the first affiliated hospital of Anhui Medical University from December 2017 to December 2018. The demographic data of couples, the medical history, sexuality and the characteristics of ED, and anxiety and depression of the couples were collected through face-to-face interview and questionnaires. The couples were divided into two groups containing 238 couples and 147 couples, respectively. We divided couples into difference group including couples which have inconsistent evaluation results from touching the erectile hardness model and no difference group including couples which have consistent evaluation results from touching the erectile hardness model, respectively. The difference group where the couples share different evaluation results reported higher erectile hardness grade from men than from their female partners (male > female: 73.11% vs. male < female: 26.89%). The scores of IIEF-5 in difference group and no difference group are 13.43 ± 5.75 and 16.82 ± 8.23, respectively. The average grades evaluated from men and women in difference group are 2.79 ± 0.85 and 2.45 ± 0.63, respectively. The average grades evaluated from couples in no difference group are 3.02 ± 0.45. Through statistical comparison and logistic regression analysis, duration of ED > 16 months, seeking treatment from female, negative communication state, and depression from men are the relevant factors accounting for the different evaluation results. This phenomenon reflects the problem of communication and cognition between husband and wife in ED patients. As for couples with these risk factors, we cannot focus only on the oral medication which only restores the penile erectile function. More importantly, we must combine the sexual counseling and sexual knowledge education with the drug treatment. When the two treatments are tightly integrated, not only the penile erection but also the gap of couples can be restored which is the best result of the ED treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose Little is known about quality of life ( QOL) in Chinese patients with bipolar disorder ( BD) in remission (euthymia). This study examined the QOL of such a cohort of BD patients and its demographic, clinical, and cognitive correlates. Design and Methods Forty-seven euthymic BD patients and 47 matched healthy controls formed the study sample. Socio-demographic characteristics, prospective memory, retrospective memory, intelligence quotient, and executive functioning were measured in all participants together with patients' psychopathology ratings. Findings Multivariate analyses revealed that compared to controls, euthymic BD patients had significantly lower satisfaction with physical QOL domain. Only subthreshold depressive symptoms independently contributed to reduced satisfaction with physical and environmental QOL domains, whereas no variable predicted its psychological and social domains. Practice Implications Contrary to findings from Western settings, demographic variables and cognitive deficits had no associations with any QOL domain in euthymic Chinese BD patients. Control of subthreshold depressive symptoms in euthymic BD patients might enhance their QOL. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
