Magnesium-based alloys were more prevalent in automobile applications owing to their mechanical properties, low mass, and density. However, its poor mechanical properties are restricting its applications. Therefore, the present study focuses on improving the mechanical properties of AZ31D alloy by reinforcing silicon carbide (SiC) and graphite (Gr) nanoparticles with weight fractions of 2%, 4%, and 6% using stir-casting technique. The microstructure analysis was performed using a scanning electron microscope. The elemental analysis was confirmed using energy-dispersive spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction was used to study various phases in the nanocomposites. Further, the mechanical properties, such as microhardness, ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, and compression strength of the nanocomposites, were significantly improved by 53%, 59%, 62%, and 82%, respectively, as compared with base alloy. The main aim of this research is to analyze the mechanical performances of the influence of silicon carbide (SiC) particles with AA6351 aluminum alloy. The aluminum metal matrix composites were prepared with liquefying stir casting to produce the metal matrix composites (MMCs). The following weight fractions are AA6351-0% SiC, AA6351-2.5% SiC, AA6351-5% SiC, and AA6351-7.5% SiC utilized to compose the MMCs. The mechanical performances like hardness, flexural, impact, compressive, and tensile studies were investigated on the processed MMCs. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) was employed to examine the strengthened particle of SiC. During the SEM examinations, uniformly dispersed SiC-strengthened particles were analyzed. The entire MMCs specimens achieve greater mechanical characteristics; the specimen fabricated with a maximum volume fraction of 7.5 wt% of SiC accumulates higher strength than the other volume fractions samples. The SiC plays a very tedious role in improving mechanical attributes. The fabricated MMCs were highly utilized in the applications of automotive and aerospace usages. This application is fully employed with lesser weight and maximum strength conditions to fulfill the mechanical performances. This paper presents the new route of fabrication of H-AlSi24Cu3.8Mg0.8 alloy, assisted by ultrasonic vibration stirring and squeeze casting (UVSS). The primary objective of this investigation is to establish the tribological characteristics of the prepared aluminium alloy under dry, lubricated, and coated sliding conditions. Oil SAE20W40 is used as a lubricant and diamond-like carbon (DLC) is used as a coating. Under a load between 20 N and 50 N, a linear reciprocating tribometer (LRT) with a ball-on-plate geometry is used. Alloy was examined using an optical microscope, scanning electron microscope with EDS, 3D surface profilometer, Brinell hardness tester, and tensometer for pre- and postcharacterization of alloy, surface, and worn tracks. The main objective of this investigation is to analyze the microstructure, tensile properties, and impact toughness of Ti6Al4V alloy joints developed using optimized parameters of linear friction welding (LFW) for gas turbine blisk assembly applications. The 6 mm thick plates of Ti6Al4V alloy were joined using a friction time of 40 sec, a friction pressure of 20 MPa, a forging pressure of 10 MPa, a forging time of 3 sec, and an oscillating frequency of 14 Hz. The different regions of joints were analyzed using a stereo zoom microscope. Optical and scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used for analysing the microstructural features of joints. The room temperature tensile properties, hardness, and impact toughness of LFW-Ti6Al4V alloy joints were evaluated and correlated to the microstructural features of weld region. The fractured sections of tensile and impact toughness specimens of joints were analyzed using SEM and the failure of joints was correlated with the hardness survey. Results showed that the LFW-Ti6Al4V alloy joints developed using the optimized parameters exhibited a tensile strength (TS) of 1015 MPa, a yield strength (YS) of 940 MPa, and an elongation (EL) of 8%. The joints revealed 98.54%, 95.91%, and 66.67% of tensile strength, yield strength, and ductility of the parent metal. The LFW joints disclosed impact toughness (IT) of 17.2 J which is 89.77% impact toughness of the parent metal. The superior tensile properties and impact toughness of LFW-Ti6Al4V alloy joints are mainly attributed to a greater degree of refinement of α + β grains in the weld interface, which offers greater resistance to tensile deformation and crack propagation. A new generation of Ti-xNb-3Fe-9Zr (x = 15 , 20, 25, 30, 35 wt %) alloys have been designed using various theoretical approaches including DV-xα cluster, molybdenum equivalency, and electron to atom ratio. Afterward, designed alloys are fabricated using cold crucible levitation melting technique. The microstructure and mechanical performances of newly designed alloys are characterized in this work using scanning electron microscope and universal testing machine, respectively. Each alloy demonstrates monolithic β phase except Ti-35Nb-3Fe-9Zr alloy which display dual α ″ + β phases. Typically, niobium acts as an isomorphous beta stabilizer. However, in this work, formation of martensitic α ″ phases occurs at 35 wt % of niobium among the series of newly designed alloys. Furthermore, none of the alloys fail till the maximum load capacity of machine, i.e., 100 KN except Ti-35Nb-3Fe-9Zr alloy. Moreover, the Vickers hardness test is carried out on Ti-xNb-3Fe-9Zr alloys which demonstrate slip bands around the indentation for each alloy. Notably, the deformation bands and cracks around the indentations of each alloy have been observed using optical microscopy; Ti-35Nb-3Fe-9Zr demonstrates some cracks along with slip bands around its indentation. The Ti-25Nb-3Fe-9Zr alloy shows the highest yield strength of 1043 ± 20 MPa , large plasticity of 32 ± 0.5 % , and adequate hardness of 152 ± 3.90 Hv among the investigated alloys. The Ti-25Nb-3Fe-9Zr alloy demonstrates good blend of strength and malleability. Therefore, Ti-25Nb-3Fe-9Zr can be used effectively for the biomedical applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Herein, we report low-cost and rare-earth-free Cu-doped Mg-Al alloys for drill-free plugging applications and present the influence of Al content on degradation behavior. The phase composition and microstructure of fabricated alloys were characterized by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD). Also, degradation properties were investigated using hydrogen evolution tests and the electrochemical measurements. The results reveal that the Al content is directly related to the proportion of secondary phases, such as Mg2Cu, Mg17Al12, and MgAlCu. Moreover, the Mg17Al12 and MgAlCu phases are distributed at α-Mg grain boundaries, whereas the MgAlCu phase is distributed within the Mg matrix. Acceleration of degradation rate is found due to microgalvanic corrosion in Mg-xAl-2Cu (in wt.%, named as ACx2, x = 0, 3, 5, and 9) alloys. In this regard, Mg2Cu, Mg17Al12, and MgAlCu phases act as a microgalvanic cathode against anodic magnesium matrixes. As such, the degradation rate of ACx2 alloys in 3.5% NaCl solution is ranked from AC02, AC32, AC52, to AC92. In this context, the AC02 alloy shows the fastest degradation rate, 46 times higher than the AC92 alloy. Summary: (Al2Ga)‐xIn (x = 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 wt%) ternary aluminum (Al) alloys with different weight ratio of In for hydrolysis H2 generation were prepared by melting‐casting technique. The phase compositions and microstructures of Al‐rich alloys were investigated by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and high resolution scanning electron microscope (HR‐SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). The effect of In addition ratio on microstructures and H2 generation performance were investigated, and the hydrolysis mechanism for Al‐Ga‐In ternary Al‐based alloys has been proposed. Al phase as matrix phase in the Al‐Ga‐In ternary alloy mainly determines the hydrolysis behavior, and the second phase In strongly promotes the hydrolysis process. The increase of In content can accelerate the H2 generation rate as well as the final capacity and generation yield in neutral water. The generation yields for (Al2Ga)‐x In (x = 2, 4, 6, 8 wt%) alloys at 50°C are 0.56, 0.59, 0.62, and 0.66, respectively. The raising hydrolysis temperature can elevate the initial hydrolysis rate, final H2 generation capacity, and yield. The H2 generation capacities of (Al2Ga)‐8In alloy at 50°C, 60°C, and 70°C are 262, 290, and 779 mL·g−1, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dynamic plastic deformation (DPD) achieved by multipass hammer forging is one of the most important metal forming operations to create the excellent materials properties. By using the integrated approaches of optical microscope and scanning electron microscope, the forging temperature effects on the multipass hammer forging process and the forged properties of Ti-6Al-4V alloy were evaluated and the forging samples were controlled with a total height reduction of 50% by multipass strikes from 925°C to 1025°C. The results indicate that the forging temperature has a significant effect on morphology and the volume fraction of primary α phase, and the microstructural homogeneity is enhanced after multipass hammer forging. The alloy slip possibility and strain rates could be improved by multipass strikes, but the marginal efficiency decreases with the increased forging temperature. Besides, a forging process with an initial forging temperature a bit above β transformation and finishing the forging a little below the β transformation is suggested to balance the forging deformation resistance and forged mechanical properties. This paper is aimed at investigating the corrosion behavior of Pure and Zinc-graphite particles with percentage of 1, 3, and 5%, respectively. The composites were fabricated by powder metallurgy method. Corrosion tests were performed according to ASTM standard. Corrosion rate was calculated and it is found that in all cases the corrosion rate was decreasing with the increase in exposure time. Meanwhile, the microstructure of composites was imaged and analyzed using optical microscope and scanning electronmicroscope. It is observed that the best corrosion resistance was zinc with 1%Graphite while Zinc with 3%and 5%Graphite composites did not enhance the corrosion resistance comparing to pure Zinc. Poly(vinyl chloride)/nitrile butadiene rubber (PVC/NBR) alloys were melt-mixed using a Brabender Plasticorder at 180°C and 50 rpm rotor speed. Alloys obtained by melt mixing from PVC and NBR were formulated with wood-flour- (WF-) based olive residue, a natural byproduct from olive oil extraction industry. WF was progressively increased from 0 to 30 phr. The effects of WF loadings on the tensile properties of the fabricated samples were inspected. The torque rheometry, which is an indirect indication of the melt strength, is reported. The pattern of water uptake for the composites was checked as a function WF loading.
