In recent years, due to the continuous improvement of the national economic level and the increasing academic burden of students' main courses, students' physical health problems (e.g., obesity, vision, and lumbar spine) have become more and more serious, which urgently needs the attention of relevant departments of national education and parents. This paper will use digital image technology to create a physical parameter measurement system and use literature, comparative analysis, and other research methods to analyze the impact of volleyball elective courses on students' physical health. Firstly, this paper explains the theory of image processing technology and analyzes the parameters of human body scientifically; secondly, it detects the physical parameters of human body in digital images and also designs an image recognition system; finally, through experimental analysis, the accuracy of identifying key points of images is relatively high. With the rapid development of my country's economy, the rapid improvement of national living standards, the introduction of western fast food culture, and the modern lifestyle, the detection rate of obese patients in my country has increased year by year. Obesity has gradually become an important issue of social concern, especially among students, obesity is very common, seriously affecting the physical and mental health of students, and laying a hidden danger for the development of society. As an effective method, physical exercise has an important impact on the physical and mental health of obese students and has become an important way to solve the obesity problem. On the basis of a large number of literature research, this paper adopts a variety of research methods such as questionnaire survey, expert consultation, mathematical statistics and comparative analysis, and logical analysis. The current situation of extracurricular physical exercise has been investigated in detail, and after data analysis, it is found that obesity has a great negative impact on all aspects of college freshmen. The results of the study showed that the obese college students in Suzhou had a low level of physical health. The average scores of the "National Student Physical Health Standards" for boys and girls were 58.50 and 60.49, respectively, and the failure rates were 48.24% and 43.55%, respectively. Compared with the average level of college students in the whole country, the height, weight, and vital capacity of obese students in Suzhou are higher than the national level, while the vital capacity index is far lower than the national level, and there are significant differences in physical fitness items (obese girls 800 meters), standing long jump, sit-ups are higher than the national level, and there are significant differences; obese boys 1000 meters, sitting forward flexion are lower than the national level, there is a significant difference, while the standing long jump performance is slightly higher than the national level). In terms of mental health, the detection rate of various mild mental health problems among obese college students in Suzhou is as high as 44.56%, and the detection rate of various moderate mental health problems also reaches 9.69%. Compared with the national youth norm, obese college students are prone to psychological problems such as somatization, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, anxiety, terror, psychosis, hostility, and paranoia. The growing prevalence of obesity worldwide poses a public health challenge in the current geological epoch, the Anthropocene. Global changes caused by urbanisation, loss of biodiversity, industrialisation, and land-use are happening alongside microbiota dysbiosis and increasing obesity prevalence. How alterations of the gut microbiota are associated with obesity and the epigenetic mechanism mediating this and other health outcome associations are in the process of being unveiled. Epigenetics is emerging as a key mechanism mediating the interaction between human body and the environment in producing disease. Evidence suggests that the gut microbiota plays a role in obesity as it contributes to different mechanisms, such as metabolism, body weight and composition, inflammatory responses, insulin signalling, and energy extraction from food. Consistently, obese people tend to have a different epigenetic profile compared to non-obese. However, evidence is usually scattered and there is a growing need for a structured framework to conceptualise this complexity and to help shaping complex solutions. In this paper, we propose a framework to analyse the observed associations between the alterations of microbiota and health outcomes and the role of epigenetic mechanisms underlying them using obesity as an example, in the current context of global changes within the Anthropocene. Objective. This review aimed at searching for scientific literature on mobile apps for the management of comorbid overweight/obesity and depression/anxiety and providing a brief and comprehensive summary of their main features, targeted groups, and relevant results. Methods. A bibliographical search was performed in Pubmed, PsycNet, Web of Science, ResearchGate, and Lilacs databases. The terms "obesity" and "overweight" were introduced in combination with "anxiety" and "depression" and "mobile app (application)," "smartphone app (application)," "android app (applicattion)," "iOS app (application)," "mobile health app (application)," and "mHealth app (application)." Results. The initial search eliciting 204 citations was reduced to 7 relevant papers (4 original articles, 1 brief communication, and 2 study protocols). All publications were from the last five years, most were produced by research teams from the United States. All had adult samples, and interventions mostly followed a cognitive behavioral framework. Regarding mobile apps, five studies only used one to monitor weight and physical activity, one study to provide therapy to improve psychological wellness, and one study to monitor cognitions and emotions. No mobile app was found for the simultaneous management of overweight/obesity and depression/anxiety. Conclusions. The prevalence and costs related to overweight/obesity and depression/anxiety are significant and likely to increase. Very often these conditions overlap; thus, it would be recommendable to treat their comorbidity simultaneously. Nevertheless, no mobile app has been designed for this purpose, which would help to reduce service provision costs and make treatment more easily accessible for patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background. High numbers of young people are living with obesity in England, with associated negative impacts on their mental and physical health. Social prescribing involves professionals referring individuals to community‐based services to provide additional health and well‐being support. Social prescribing may be a helpful way to provide holistic support to young people living with obesity alongside weight management services. However, there is a need to better understand the availability of community‐based services that could provide this support. Aims. This study aimed to explore the process for mapping community‐based services to be part of a social prescribing offer within children's specialist weight management services in one region of England and to provide an understanding of the availability of community‐based services in this region that are accessible for this population. Method. Community‐based services providing physical activity opportunities to young people in an area local to a specialist weight management service (South Yorkshire) were mapped using a mixed methods approach, including scoping of online resources and meetings with relevant contacts. Services were identified and reviewed against criteria developed through stakeholder engagement to assess suitability for young people living with obesity. Results. A total of 933 community‐based services were identified across South Yorkshire between January and June 2023. Scoping and suitability assessment of these services took 6 months. There was often limited information provided about services, particularly relating to costs. Nineteen services met all suitability criteria. Conclusion. It requires time and capacity to identify relevant community‐based services as part of a social prescribing offering. Although a high number of services were identified, few of these were suitable for young people living with obesity. Consideration should be given to how young people can be supported to access services, as well as how services can be supported to meet the needs of young people living with severe obesity. Introduction. Malnutrition and obesity are a double burden on children in developing countries and could induce higher risks of noncommunicable diseases in the long term. In the big cities of Vietnam, both issues are present and share the issue of nutrition problems; the prevalence of malnutrition in children is gradually decreasing while the prevalence of obesity is increasing rapidly. The paper aims to identify the prevalence of stunting and overweight/obesity in apparently healthy young children in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). Methods. A prospective cross-sectional study recruited 12-24-month-old children receiving national vaccination in community health centers in HCMC from February 2016 to July 2017. Sixteen healthcare centers were randomly selected among 8 districts of HCMC. Stunting and overweight were defined by height-for-age z-score <-2 SD and BMI z-score ≥+2 SD. Results. A total of 768 children had mean age of 16.8±4.2 months old, 51.7% boys. The prevalence of stunting and overweight/obesity was 8.2% and 10.7%, respectively. Stunting was associated with older age, boys, and low birth weight of children and occupation of mothers (P <0.05). No associated risk factor was observed for overweight/ obesity status. Conclusion. The prevalence of overweight/obesity was higher than the prevalence of stunting in 12-24-month-old children in HCMC. Overweight/obesity would be a public health problem for children in big cities. An introduction is presented in which the editor discusses various reports within the issue on topics including the correlation between obesity and lack of activity in children, psychosocial factors that affect the level of exercise in children, and exercise in children with chronic illnesses.

Objective. To evaluate whether clustering effects, often quantified by the intracluster correlation coefficient (ICC), were appropriately accounted for in design and analysis of school-based trials. Methods. We searched PubMed and extracted variables concerning study characteristics, power analysis, ICC use for power analysis, applied statistical models, and the report of the ICC estimated from the observed data. Results. N=263 papers were identified, and N=121 papers were included for evaluation. Overall, only a minority (21.5%) of studies incorporated ICC values for power analysis, fewer studies (8.3%) reported the estimated ICC, and 68.6% of studies applied appropriate multilevel models. A greater proportion of studies applied the appropriate models during the past five years (2013–2017) compared to the prior years (74.1% versus 63.5%, p=0.176). Significantly associated with application of appropriate models were a larger number of schools (p=0.030), a larger sample size (p=0.002), longer follow-up (p=0.014), and randomization at a cluster level (p<0.001) and so were studies that incorporated the ICC into power analysis (p=0.016) and reported the estimated ICC (p=0.030). Conclusion. Although application of appropriate models has increased over the years, consideration of clustering effects in power analysis has been inadequate, as has report of estimated ICC. Obesity and type 1 diabetes (T1DM) are the two most common conditions of altered metabolism in children and adolescents. In both, similar long-term cardiovascular complications are known to occur, mediated in large part by underlying inflammatory and oxidative processes whose biochemical details remain relatively unclear. Through a series of experiments in these patient populations, over the last decade our laboratory has clarified a number of key issues in this field. Interestingly, while obese and type 1 diabetic children often differed in the specific type and magnitude of molecular alterations, in both groups a clear exaggeration of inflammatory and oxidative activation was detected when compared to healthy, age-matched controls. Our main findings include definition of resting and exercise-induced cytokine patterns and leukocyte profiles, patterns of activation of immune cells in vitro, and correlation of the magnitude of observed alterations with severity of obesity and quality of glycemic control. Further, we have identified a series of alterations in growth factor profiles during exercise that parallel inflammatory changes in obese children. Background. Overweight and obesity are major risk factors for chronic diseases and are the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Obesity during adolescence is strongly associated with adulthood obesity leading to increased morbidities and mortality. As a developing country undergoing rapid urbanization, Nepal is in a transitional phase where undernutrition coexists with obesity; however, there is a dearth of literature on the status of adolescent obesity in the rural section of Nepal. Te aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of adolescent obesity in a rural district of Nepal and fnd out its associated factors. Methods. An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted among the adolescent students studying in classes 8, 9, and 10 in four secondary schools of Gosaikunda rural municipality of Rasuwa district, Nepal. Total enumerative sampling was used, and Global School-based Health Survey (GSHS) standard questionnaires were used in collecting the information. Height and weight measurements were taken, and the body mass index was classifed according to Asia-Pacifc criteria. Te collected data were analyzed using “SPSS” version 22. Logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the associated factors, and a p value of ≤0.05 was considered statistically signifcant. Results. Out of 267 adolescents, 14.6% were obese and 14.6% were overweight. Of the female participants, 39.6% were either obese or overweight, while 12.6% of the male adolescents were overweight/obese. Among the total participants, 16.5% were underweight, including 14.0% females and 20.4% males. Female adolescents were about fve times (AOR: 5.2, 95% CI (2.5–10.9), p < 0.01) more likely of being overweight/obese than male adolescents. Conclusions. More than one-quarter of the adolescents were found to be obese/overweight, and the prevalence was signifcantly more among female adolescents. The prevalence of overweight and obesity in youth with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) now exceeds that of youth without T1D. Comorbid T1D and excess adiposity are associated with multiple serious negative health outcomes. Unfortunately, youth with T1D are often excluded from and/or not referred to standard behavioral lifestyle interventions. This is often attributed to the complexities of managing T1D and an effort not to overburden persons who have T1D. Furthermore, standard behavioral weight management intervention recommendations can be perceived as contradicting T1D disease management (e.g., removing sugar-sweetened beverages from diet, energy balance with exercise, and caloric restriction). A weight management intervention specifically designed for youth with T1D is needed to provide treatment to youth with comorbid T1D and overweight/obesity. The current study interviewed adolescents with T1D and overweight/obesity (n = 12), their caregivers (n = 12), and pediatric endocrinologists (n = 9) to understand (a) whether they would be interested in a weight management intervention adapted for youth with T1D and (b) specific adaptations they would want and need. Five central themes emerged following applied thematic analysis: (1) program content, (2) programmatic messaging, (3) program structure, (4) social support, and (5) eating disorder risk. A growing body of evidence has shown the intimate relationship between metabolomic profiles and insulin resistance (IR) in obese adults, while little is known about childhood obesity. In this review, we searched available papers addressing metabolomic profiles and IR in obese children from inception to February 2016 on MEDLINE, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, ClinicalTrials.gov, and EMASE. HOMA-IR was applied as surrogate markers of IR and related metabolic disorders at both baseline and follow-up. To minimize selection bias, two investigators independently completed this work. After critical selection, 10 studies (including 2,673 participants) were eligible and evaluated by using QUADOMICS for quality assessment. Six of the 10 studies were classified as “high quality.” Then we generated all the metabolites identified in each study and found amino acid metabolism and lipid metabolism were the main affected metabolic pathways in obese children. Among identified metabolites, branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), aromatic amino acids (AAAs), and acylcarnitines were reported to be associated with IR as biomarkers most frequently. Additionally, BCAAs and tyrosine seemed to be relevant to future metabolic risk in the long-term follow-up cohorts, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and prevention strategy. Because of limited scale and design heterogeneity of existing studies, future studies might focus on validating above findings in more large-scale and longitudinal studies with elaborate design. Background. The World Health Organization European Childhood Obesity Surveillance Initiative (COSI) conducted examinations in 6–9-year-old children from 16 countries in the first two rounds of data collection. Allowing participating countries to adhere to their local legal requirements or adapt to other circumstances required developing a flexible protocol for anthropometric procedures. Objectives. (1) Review intercountry variation in types of clothing worn by children during weight and height measurements, clothes weight adjustments applied, timing of the survey, and duration of data collection; (2) assess the impact of the observed variation in these practices on the children’s weight or body mass index (BMI) outcome measures. Results. The relative difference between countries’ unadjusted and clothes-adjusted prevalence estimates for overweight was 0.3–11.5%; this figure was 1.4–33.3% for BMI-for-age Z-score values. Monthly fluctuations in mean BMI-for-age Z-score values did not show a systematic seasonal effect. The majority of the monthly BMI-for-age Z-score values did not differ statistically within a country; only 1–3 monthly values were statistically different within some countries. Conclusions. The findings of the present study suggest that the built-in flexibility in the COSI protocol concerning the data collection practices addressed in the paper can be kept and thus do not necessitate a revision of the COSI protocol. Objective. This study was to investigate the characteristics of insulin secretion and the 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25(OH)D3) levels in children with obesity. Methods. A retrospective analysis was conducted among children who underwent health checkups in the pediatric healthcare department of our hospital from January 2018 to January 2021, and they were divided into a normal group and an obese group according to their BMI. The insulin secretion and the 25(OH)D3 levels of the two groups of children were compared. A total of 721 children were included in the study, including 591 in the normal group and 130 in the obese group, with an obesity rate of 18.03%. Results. The blood glucose of the normal group was 4.55 ± 1.75 mmol/L, and the 2 h PG was 7.51 ± 2.11 mmol/L; in the obesity group, they were 6.03 ± 2.16 mmol/L and 8.92 ± 3.24 mmol/L, respectively. The FPG and 2 h PG in the obese group were significantly higher than those in the normal group (all P < 0.05). The incidence of IFG/IGT in the normal group was 5.24% (31/591), and the incidence of DM was 3.71% (22/591); the incidence of IFG/IGT in the obese group was 14.62% (19/130), and the incidence of DM was 13.08% (17/130). The incidences of IFG/IGT and DM in the obese group were significantly higher than those in the normal group (P < 0.05). The FINS of the children in the normal group was 18.46 ± 3.15 μU/mL, and the HOMA-IR was 2.64 ± 0.62 ; the above indicators in the obese group were 19.11 ± 4.72 μU/mL and 3.01 ± 0.83 , respectively. The FINS and HOMA-IR in the obese group were significantly higher than those in the normal group (P < 0.05). The serum 25(OH)D3 level in the normal group was 28.15 ± 5.27 ng/mL, of which 556 cases were normal in 25(OH)D3 and 35 cases were deficient in 25(OH)D3. The serum 25(OH)D3 level in the obese group was 24.35 ± 4.51 ng/mL, of which 112 cases were normal in 25(OH)D3 and 18 cases were deficient in 25(OH)D3. The level of serum 25(OH)D3 in the normal group was significantly higher than that in the normal group, and the ratio of 25(OH)D3 deficiency was significantly lower than that in the normal group (P < 0.05). Conclusions. The blood glucose level of childhood obesity was significantly increased, the incidence of abnormal glucose metabolism and diabetes was significantly increased, and the level of 25(OH) vitamin D3 was significantly decreased. Lifestyle improvements and vitamin D supplementation play an important role in the prevention of childhood diabetes. Because the major causes of childhood obesity are excessive caloric intake and lack of exercise, the most effective and direct measures to prevent obesity are a reasonable lifestyle, reasonable eating habits, and moderate exercise. Although genetics are critical, there is no reliable way to eliminate obesity genes in the human body. Neutrosophic sets are employed to be handled indeterminacy in a real-life situation. Thus, neutrosophic approaches in the medical domain prove their excellence. The neutrosophic hidden Markov model is an inventiveness domain for uncertainty. The existing hidden Markov models are not able to consider the uncertainty information, but the neutrosophic hidden Markov model effectively finds the optimal path between the states where vagueness exists. The proposed study comprises the idea of single-value and interval-valued neutrosophic sets into the hidden Markov model and decoding the path using the Viterbi algorithm. It has been used to determine the sequence of motility primitives for an afforded time series. The method is to be handled without having a lower membership function for falsity, and because of this advantage, one can save time significantly during computation. The expert decision-making system is developed to provide a scientific and reasonable exercise solution management platform for primary and middle school students, especially children with special physiques, such as obesity and thinness, to improve the universality and compliance of exercise prescriptions for children with special physiques. The system provides personal information management, exercise management, exercise solution formulation, data statistics, and image management functions, enables self-selection, and free combination of children exercise prescriptions, and can improve the effectiveness of such prescriptions through personalized design. The system first divides exercise prescriptions into three bigger sections: the warm-up section, the main exercise section, and the cool-down section, then subdivides them into 15 smaller sections, further chooses, matches, verifies, and revises the components of the exercise prescription according to the object's basic demographic information and body mass index and finally formulates a personalized and reasonable exercise prescription. It also can track and manage the exercise solution formulated and dynamically adjust the exercise solution according to the change of the object's body index, thus strengthening the degree of freedom and personalized characteristics of the exercise prescription. Background. Exercise is one of the recommended interventions for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and current evidence has shown that Tai chi may have favorable effects. The objective of this randomized controlled pilot trial was to study the feasibility and potential effects of Tai chi for overweight/obese adolescents and young women with PCOS, so a future definitive randomized controlled trial (RCT) can be well designed and implemented. Materials and Methods. This study recruited 50 patients who were randomly assigned to two groups (Tai chi and self-monitored exercise) at a ratio of 3 : 2. The intervention lasted for 3 months, and the feasibility and effectiveness outcomes were measured. Results. A total of 42 patients completed the study, including 24 in the Tai chi group and 18 in the control group. Compared with the self-monitored exercise group, there was a significantly decreased body mass index (BMI) in the Tai chi group adjusted for baseline BMI. The testosterone level and lipid profile were also decreased compared to controls; the same tendency was also observed for the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), but the difference did not achieve statistical significance. Twenty-four (out of 30, 80%) patients in the Tai chi group and 18 (out of 20, 90%) patients in the self-monitored exercise group completed the data collection. A total of 36 exercise sessions were held in both groups. Patients in the Tai chi group took a mean of 34.0 ± 2.21 classes (93.06%), and those in the self-monitored exercise group engaged in 32 ± 3.06 exercise sessions (88.27%) out of the 36 required exercise sessions. Conclusions. The present pilot study was feasible to deliver; there was a decrease in BMI, testosterone level, and lipid profile for PCOS patients in the Tai chi group at 3 months. In a future definitive trial, lower recruitment rate and outcome measurements lead to poor patient acceptance such as the 5-time point oral glucose tolerance test need to be considered and one fixed type of aerobic exercise and supervision from the investigator for the control group are also needed. There is an emerging body of work indicating that genes, epigenetics, and the in utero environment can impact whether or not a child is obese. While certain genes have been identified that increase one's risk for becoming obese, other factors such as excess gestational weight gain, gestational diabetes mellitus, and smoking can also influence this risk. Understanding these influences can help to inform which behaviors and exposures should be targeted if we are to decrease the prevalence of obesity. By helping parents and young children change certain behaviors and exposures during critical time periods, we may be able to alter or modify one's genetic predisposition. However, further research is needed to determine which efforts are effective at decreasing the incidence of obesity and to develop new methods of prevention. In this paper, we will discuss how genes, epigenetics, and in utero influences affect the development of obesity. Prepregnancy overweight or obesity and excessive gestational weight gain have been associated with increased risk of maternal and neonatal complications. Moreover, offspring from obese women are more likely to develop obesity, diabetes mellitus, and car diovascular diseases in their lifetime. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is one of the most common complications associated with obesity and appears to have a direct impact on the future metabolic health of the child. Fetal programming of metabolic function induced by obesity and GDM may have intergenerational effect and thus perpetuate the epidemic of cardiometabolic conditions. The present paper thus aims at discussing the impact of maternal obesity and GDM on the developmental programming of obesity and metabolic disorders in the offspring. The main interventions designed to reduce maternal obesity and GDM and their ability to break the vicious circle that perpetuates the transmission of obesity and metabolic conditions to the next generations are also addressed. The incidence of obesity and overweight has reached epidemic proportions in the developed world as well as in those countries transitioning to first world economies, and this represents a major global health problem. Concern is rising over the rapid increases in childhood obesity and metabolic disease that will translate into later adult obesity. Although an obesogenic nutritional environment and increasingly sedentary lifestyle contribute to our risk of developing obesity, a growing body of evidence links early life nutritional adversity to the development of long-term metabolic disorders. In particular, the increasing prevalence of maternal obesity and excess maternal weight gain has been associated with a heightened risk of obesity development in offspring in addition to an increased risk of pregnancy-related complications. The mechanisms that link maternal obesity to obesity in offspring and the level of gene-environment interactions are not well understood, but the early life environment may represent a critical window for which intervention strategies could be developed to curb the current obesity epidemic. This paper will discuss the various animal models of maternal overnutrition and their importance in our understanding of the mechanisms underlying altered obesity risk in offspring. We systematically reviewed research examining the association between gestational diabetes (GDM) and childhood overweight and obesity. We identified studies from three sources: (1) a PubMed search of articles published between January 1990-January 2011, (2) reference lists of publications from the PubMed search, and (3) reference lists of review articles. We included studies that examined GDM separately from pregestational diabetes and childhood overweight or obesity defined as BMI 85th or 95th > percentile. A total of 12 studies were included in the systematic review. Crude odds ratios for the relationship between GDM and childhood overweight or obesity ranged from 0.7 to 6.3; in 8 studies, the associations were not statistically significant. In only 3 studies were results adjusted for any confounders; in the 2 that adjusted for prepregnancy obesity, the GDM and childhood overweight or obesity associations were attenuated and not statistically significant after adjustment. This paper demonstrates inconsistent evidence of an association between GDM and offspring overweight and obesity due to the methodological limitations of existing studies. Overweight and obesity at an early age are important criteria for predicting chronic diseases. Each anthropometric method available to assess obesity has its limitations. Recently, neck circumference (NC) has received greater attention as a new evaluation index. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between NC and overweight in Chinese Yi adolescents. A total of 647 Chinese Yi male and female students, aged 13–18 years, were randomly selected from a junior high school and a senior middle school in Leshan, Sichuan Province of China. The measurement indexes included height, weight, waist circumference (WC), and NC, and clinical information was collected by trained physicians. The neck cutoff values were determined through the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and the area under the curve (AUC). The correlation among NC, body mass index (BMI), and WC was determined by Pearson's correlation coefficient. The ROC analysis revealed that the AUC values were 0.79–0.95 for boys and 0.83–0.91 for girls. The correlation among NC, BMI, and WC in obese boys and girls was higher than 0.70 in both genders. In addition, the NC cutoff values of high BMI ranged from 31.0 cm to 36.1 cm for boys and 31.2 cm to 34.5 cm for girls, respectively. There was a significant positive correlation between NC and obesity in Chinese Yi adolescents. The NC can be used as an additional index to predict the obesity of Chinese Yi adolescents. Introduction. Child obesity is recognized as one of the major public health problems globally, which demands multicomponent and comprehensive interventions. The objective of this systematic review is to evaluate, synthesize, and combine the existing evidence of various setting-based interventions across developed and developing countries that aim to prevent childhood obesity. Methods. An electronic and systematic search was conducted on setting-based interventions related to childhood obesity both in developed and developing countries. A study was considered eligible if it was a randomized controlled trial that focused on home-based, school-based, or community-based intervention for childhood obesity and published in English from 2010 to 2020. A wide range of electronic bibliographic databases, such as PubMed, Medline, Embase, and ERIC were searched. The various studies were carried out among children aged 4-18 years old. A total of 32 studies were identified; out of which 24 were school-based interventions, and the remaining were nonschool-based. Results. The studies in this review highlighted important school and nonschool-based interventions to avoid obesity among children and adolescents. School-based interventions that had considered both physical activity (PA) and diet along with home elements showed great effectiveness. These findings reveal that the specific intervention components such as nutrition education curriculum, prolonged time for PA, and upgrading self-efficacy of study participants should be considered to prevent obesity across developed and developing countries. However, the findings from nonschool-based interventions were restricted by the scarcity of the studies. Conclusion. Multisetting and multipronged strategies are required to avoid or reduce childhood obesity across the globe. However, additional studies are needed with a large sample size. Further study designs based on theory should be conducted in nonschool settings for the creation of meaningful and detailed guidelines that can support the prevention of obesity in children. Overweight/obesity is a pressing international health concern, and conventional treatments demonstrate poor long-term efficacy. Several studies have shown that yoga can control risk factors for cardiovascular disease, obesity, and psychosocial stress. The present study aimed to assess the effect of continuous yoga (asanas, pranayama, and Surya Namaskar yoga) on body composition in overweight participants. Forty adolescents with obesity were enrolled in this study. The study was conceived as a prospective, single-center, single-blinded randomized controlled trial. The participants were divided into 2 groups: the intervention group (n = 20), which undertook a continuous yoga practice, and the control group (n = 20). Body composition, including body weight (BW), body mass index (BMI), body fat mass (BFM), and muscle mass, was evaluated using tetrapolar bioelectrical impedance (BIA). Our results showed that the mean BMI and BFM of the yoga intervention group were significantly decreased at week 8 and week 12. The muscle mass of the yoga group continued to improve at a rate of 0.515 per week, which was statistically significant. In conclusion, a continuous yoga practice had a tendency to decrease BMI and BFM and increase muscle mass. These findings demonstrate intervention effectiveness similar to that observed in other clinical research and indicate that continuous yoga practice may be used as an alternative therapy for obesity prevention and health promotion in adolescents with obesity. Background. Angiopoietin-like protein 2 (ANGPTL2) is one of the adipocyte-derived inflammatory factors which connects obesity to insulin resistance. ANGPTL3 has a direct role in regulation of lipid metabolism. The objective of this study was to evaluate ANGPTL2 and ANGPTL3 in childhood obesity and their relationship with metabolic syndrome. Methods. 70 children and adolescents, 35 obese and 35 normal-weight subjects, were enrolled in this research after complete clinical examination and anthropometric evaluations. Serum ANGPTL2 and ANGPTL3 and insulin were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was calculated and used to estimate insulin resistance (IR). Colorimetric methods were used for the assessment of fasting plasma glucose (FPG), LDL-C, HDL-C, total cholesterol (TC), and triglyceride (TG). Results. The levels of ANGPTL2 and ANGPTL3 were significantly higher in obese subjects than those in controls, but they did not differ significantly in subjects with or without IR. ANGPTL3 was found to be significantly elevated in obese children with metabolic syndrome (MetS) in comparison with those without MetS. Both of the studied ANGPTLs were positively correlated with BMI, systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), TC, and LDL-C. The correlation between ANGPTL3 and either TC or LDL-C remained significant after adjusting for BMI. Conclusion. Serum ANGPTL2 and ANGPTL3 were elevated in obesity and associated with blood pressure and indices of metabolic syndrome, suggesting that they might be involved in the advancement of obesity-related hypertension and metabolic syndrome. By accelerating the aforementioned industrialisation and urbanisation, people's way of life has undergone enormous changes. The incidence of overweight and obesity increases rapidly. This research first broke through the impact of basketball on improving physical health and then designed experiments separately. The experiment is divided into two experimental groups and a replacement group, with 150 people in total, 50 people per group, excluding the interference of gender, age, and other factors. The influencing factors are studied under the monitoring of the Internet of Things technology. One group had 8 weeks of basketball training, and the other group had 8 weeks of plant diet. The results showed that the average weight of the nutrition intervention group was reduced by 9.85 kg, and the average weight of the exercise intervention group was reduced by 7.64 kg. The percentage of body fat and blood lipid composition of the obese people have decreased, which indicates that the combination of basketball intervention under the monitoring of the Internet of Things technology can improve the physique of obese people. Objective. Prokineticin 2 (PK2) has been shown to regulate food intake, fat production, and the inflammation process, which play vital roles in the pathogenesis of obesity. The first aim of this study was to investigate serum PK2 levels in children with obesity and normal-weight children. The second aim was to compare the levels of PK2 between children with obesity, with and without nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Methods. Seventy normal-weight children and 91 children with obesity (22 with NAFLD) were recruited. Circulating PK2, IL-6, and TNF-α were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Anthropometric and biochemical measurements related to adiposity, lipid profile, and insulin resistance were examined for all participants. Results. Serum PK2 was significantly higher in children with obesity than in the normal-weight controls. Circulating PK2 levels were not different between the patients with and without NAFLD. Circulating PK2 was positively correlated with BMI, BMI z-score, insulin, glucose, HOMA-IR, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, alanine aminotransferase, and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase. Binary logistic regression revealed that the odds ratios for obesity were significantly elevated with increasing PK2. Conclusions. Introduction. Obesity and dental caries are global public health problems. There are conflicting reports about the relationship between caries and obesity. Therefore, the study aimed to investigate the association between obesity and dental caries among male adolescents. Materials and Methods. This cross-sectional study included a sample of 258 male students' aged 12 to 15 years from schools in Dammam/Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. The study involved measuring caries prevalence and DMFT estimates, assessing body mass index (BMI), and administering a self-completion questionnaire. Independent samples Student's t-test, one-way ANOVA test, Pearson's correlation test, and bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed. Results. Caries prevalence of the sample was 79.8%, and the mean score of DMFT was 3.55 ± 2.94. The mean BMI of participants was 23.42 ± 6.82 and 18% were obese (BMI > 30). The obese participants had a higher mean DMFT score (4.46 ± 3.54) than nonobese participants (3.35 ± 2.77) (P = 0.021). Similarly, the mean untreated caries was higher in obese (4.17 ± 3.22) than in nonobese participants (3.01 ± 2.66) (P = 0.010). In the logistic regression analysis, after controlling for father's education, family history of obesity, meals per day, fast food per week, and physical activity in the final model, the participants with high caries experience (DMFT = 5–15) were 2.21 times more likely to have obesity than those with low caries experience (DMFT = 0–4) (P = 0.04). No/school education of father (odds ratio 3.54, P = 0.011), family history of obesity (odds ratio 3.27, P = 0.002), and not performing physical activity (odds ratio 4.37, P = 0.002) were significantly associated with an increased likelihood of obesity. Conclusion. The prevalence of caries and obesity was high in male adolescents in Saudi Arabia. Obesity was significantly associated with untreated caries and caries experience. Children with high caries experience were more likely to have obesity than children with low caries experience. Physical activity participation in children declines with age. It is not clear yet whether the age-related trends vary by weight status. This study is aimed at investigating the association between physical activity participation and age among children with healthy weight, overweight, or obesity, using data from the 2016-2017 National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH). Physical activity participation was evaluated by days participated in physical activity for at least 60 minutes out of 7 days. Weight status was categorized from body mass index (BMI) percentiles. Data were analyzed on 33,056 US children age 10-17 years. The percentages of been active 0 day out of 7 days in BMI 5 th < 85 th (healthy weight), 85 th < 95 th (overweight), and ≥95th percentile (obese) groups were 8.9%, 11.5%, and 18.2%, respectively. Among all groups, been active 0 day out of 7 days was positively associated with age, while the strongest associations were observed in the BMI 85 th < 95 th group (age 17 years vs. age 10 years: OR = 7.48 , p < 0.0001). Older age was significantly associated with been active less than 4 days out of 7 days in the BMI 5 th < 85 th and 85 th < 95 th groups, but those associations were attenuated in the BMI ≥ 95 th group. This study found that physical activity participation was inversely associated with age among children with healthy weight, overweight, or obese, and the association was strongest among children with overweight and weakest among children with obesity. The aim of the study was to evaluate serum Endocan and Lumican levels as biomarkers for pediatric Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) and to explore their associations with pediatric cardiometabolic risk factors. We conducted a cross-sectional study on 68 pediatric obese and overweight (O&O) patients. Ten healthy controls were recruited. Serum Lumican and Endocan levels were analyzed using ELISA kits. O&O patients had lower levels of Endocan compared to healthy controls (p < 0.001). There were no differences between serum Endocan levels in O&O patients with NAFLD and those without (p = 0.53). Patients considered having Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) had lower Endocan levels compared to O&O patients without NASH (p = 0.026). Patients with metabolic syndrome had lower levels of Endocan (p = 0.003). There were no significant differences between serum Lumican levels in O&O children compared to healthy controls. Lumican levels were higher in patients with hypertension (p = 0.04). In O&O patients, Lumican levels were negatively correlated with Endocan levels (r = − 0.37 , p = 0.002). Endocan seems a promising biomarker for the evaluation of pediatric NASH. Lumican was not confirmed as a biomarker for NAFLD in our cohort but was associated with higher arterial pressure. Objective. The increased blood pressure level in children and adolescents is recognized as an essential predictor of adulthood cardiovascular disease. This study aimed to ascertain the prevalence and the urban-rural disparity of childhood hypertension in the southwest of China. Methods. Using stratified cluster sampling in urban and rural areas, a total of 13597 primary school children aged 6∼12 years living in the Southwest of China were included. The prevalence of hypertension was analyzed. The risk factors were collected by questionnaires, and the risk factors of childhood hypertension were analyzed by the logistic regression model. Results. The prevalence of hypertension was 13.75%, 9.02%, and 17.47% in total, urban, and rural children, respectively, and the urban-rural difference was 8.44% (95%CI: 7.32%, 9.56%). Children with obesity, maternal gestational hypertension, >10 months of breastfeeding, or low family income had a significantly increased prevalence of hypertension (29.4%, 20.00%, 16.31%, and 16.25%, respectively). Rural residence, intake of more pickle (in rural), maternal gestational hypertension (in urban), low birth weight (in rural), obesity, increased heart rate, and red blood cell counts were the risk factors of childhood hypertension. The adjusted R2 values were 13.61%, 23.25%, 10.88%, 11.12%, 12.23%, and 25.04% in the full models excluding and including serum indexes for total, urban, and rural children, respectively. Conclusions. The prevalence of childhood hypertension is significant in the Southwest of China and alarming in rural areas, which requires community intervention. Children living in rural areas combined with obesity, low social economic status, dietary imbalance, and abnormal lipid metabolism were associated with an increased risk of hypertension, and routine care programs should be conducted to prevent childhood hypertension. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is an important predictor of cardiovascular diseases in adulthood. This study aims to examine the clinical utility of triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein ratio (TG : HDL-C) in identifying cardiometabolic risk and insulin resistance (IR) among children with obesity, in comparison with MetS as defined by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). Data of 232 children with obesity aged 10–16 years were obtained from our study, MyBFF@school study, conducted between January and December 2014. Children were divided into tertiles of TG : HDL-C ratio. The minimum value of the highest tertile was 1.11. Thus, elevated TG : HDL-C ratio was defined as TG : HDL-C ≥1.11. Children with MetS were categorized based on the definition established by the IDF. Out of 232 children, 23 (9.9%) had MetS, out of which 5.6% were boys. Almost twofold of boys and girls had elevated TG : HDL-C ratio compared to MetS: 13.8% vs. 5.6% and 13.8% vs. 4.3%, respectively. Children with elevated TG : HDL-C ratio had lower fasting glucose compared to children with MetS (boys = 5.15 ± 0.4 vs. 6.34 ± 2.85 mmol/l, p=0.02; girls = 5.17 ± 0.28 vs. 6.8 ± 4.3 mmol/l, p=0.03). Additionally, boys with elevated TG : HDL-C ratio had a higher HDL-C level compared to those with MetS (1.08 ± 0.18 vs. 0.96 ± 0.1 mmol/l, p=0.03). There was no significant difference across other MetS-associated risk factors. Overall, TG : HDL-C ratio demonstrated higher sensitivity (42.7% vs. 12.9%) but lower specificity (74.8% vs. 93.2%) than MetS in identifying IR, either in HOMA-IR ≥2.6 for prepubertal children or HOMA-IR ≥4 for pubertal children. TG : HDL-C ratio in children with obesity is thus as useful as the diagnosis of MetS. It should be considered an additional component to MetS, especially as a surrogate marker for IR. In this study, we evaluated the relationship between circulating betatrophin levels and obesity. Obesity is a common public health problem that is increasing globally. Betatrophin, a newly identified protein, is predominantly expressed in white and brown fat tissues and in the liver. Growing evidence suggests that betatrophin plays a pivotal role in metabolism, including the synthesis and degradation of lipids in cells, and adipocyte differentiation. Previous studies have assessed the association between circulating betatrophin levels and obesity; however, this relationship remains unclear. Therefore, our study is aimed at examining the impact of betatrophin on obesity using a meta-analysis of the current evidence. We performed a meta-analysis to quantify the relationship between betatrophin levels and obesity. A literature search was conducted through the EMBASE, Web of Science, and MEDLINE databases. Retrieved studies were screened, without any language restrictions to identify relevant literature published up to December 2018. Observational studies, in which the association between circulating concentrations of betatrophin and obesity was evaluated, were considered suitable for the systematic review. Of the 65 manuscripts retrieved, 9 datasets from 6 studies, involving 681 participants, detected an association between circulating betatrophin and obesity. Circulating betatrophin levels of obese subjects were higher than those of nonobese subjects (random−effects weighted mean difference WMD=0.250 μg/mL, 95% CI: 0.048–0.451, I2=94.8%, p=0.015), yet with significant between-study heterogeneity. This heterogeneity appeared to be modified by glycemic status but not by age, the ELISA kits used, sample source, or body mass index. C-reactive protein (CRP) is a marker of subclinical inflammation that has been found to be associated with cardiovascular disease risk. However, few studies have investigated the relationship between CRP and cardiometabolic markers in a representative sample of prepubescent children. The objective was to evaluate the high-sensitive CRP (hs-CRP) and its association with traditional and nontraditional cardiometabolic risk factors, as well as metabolic syndrome (MetS) components in Brazilian children. This is a cross-sectional representative study, with participants of the Schoolchildren Health Assessment Survey (PASE). Children from 8 to 9 years old (n=350) enrolled in public and private schools in the municipality of Viçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil, were evaluated. Sociodemographic evaluation was performed through a semistructured questionnaire. Anthropometric, body composition, clinical, and biochemical measures were analyzed for cardiometabolic risk assessment. The total mean of serum hs-CRP concentration was 0.62 (±1.44) mg/L. hs-CRP was significantly correlated with several anthropometric, biochemical, and clinical parameters in this population (P<0.05). hs-CRP was positively associated with the accumulation of cardiometabolic risk factors and MetS components (P<0.05). Children with excessive weight; abdominal obesity; increased gynoid and android body fat; low HDL-c; hyperglycemia; and elevated uric acid, homocysteine, and apoB had higher chances of presenting increased hs-CRP (P<0.05). In this study, Brazilian children with cardiometabolic risk already presented elevated serum hs-CRP concentration. hs-CRP was associated with the increase of traditional and nontraditional cardiometabolic risk factors, as well as the accumulation of MetS components. Childhood obesity when associated with serum lipoprotein changes triggers atherosclerosis. Evidences suggest that the atherosclerotic process begins in childhood and that the extent of early atherosclerosis of the aorta and coronary arteries can be associated with lipoprotein levels and obesity. Furthermore, many studies in childhood demonstrate an important relationship between parameters of insulin sensitivity, body fat distribution, and the development of lipid abnormalities. Experts stress the need to bring the childhood obesity epidemic under control by means of an integrated approach. The implementation of such an approach requires the development of integrated enabling policies on public health by local governments. A prerequisite for developing such integrated public health policies is intersectoral collaboration. Since the development of integrated policies is still in its early stages, this study aimed to answer the following research question: "What interventions can promote intersectoral collaboration and the development of integrated health policies for the prevention of childhood obesity?" Data were collected through a literature search and observations of and interviews with stakeholders. Based on a theoretical framework, we categorized potential interventions that could optimize an integrated approach regarding children's physical activity and diet. Objective. To investigate the association of weight status with physical fitness among Chinese children. Methods. A total of 6929 children aged 6–12 years were selected from 15 primary schools of 5 provincial capital cities in eastern China. The height and fasting body weight were measured. The age-, sex-specific BMI WHO criteria was used to define underweight, overweight and obesity. Physical fitness parameters including standing broad jump, 50 msprint, and 50 m∗8 shuttle run were tested. Results. The prevalence of underweight, overweight, and obesity was 3.1%, 14.9%, and 7.8%, respectively. Boys performed better than girls, and the older children performed better than their younger counterparts for all physical fitness tests. No significant difference in all three physical fitness tests were found between children with underweight and with normal weight, and they both performed better than their counterparts with overweight and obese in all three physical fitness tests. The likelihood of achieving good performance was much lower among overweight and obese children in comparison with their counterparts with normal weight (OR = 0.13–0.54). Conclusions. Parents influence on their young children’s physical activity (PA) behaviours was examined in a sample of 102 preschool-aged children (54 boys). Questionnaires regarding family sociodemographics and physical activity habits were completed. Results showed that children who received greater parental support for activity (B = .78, P < .10) and had parents who rated PA as highly enjoyable (B = .69, P < .05) were significantly more likely to engage in one hour or more of daily PA. Being an older child (B = −.08, P < .01), having older parents (B = −.26, P < .01), and watching more than one hour of television/videos per day (B = 1.55, P < .01) reduced the likelihood that a child would be rated as highly active. Children who received greater parental support for PA were 6.3 times more likely to be highly active than inactive (B = 1.44, P < .05). Aim. To examine the association between objectively measured physical activity (PA) and body mass index (BMI) in preschool children. Methods. The study comprised 281 children (55.9% boys) aged from 4 to 6 years. PA was measured by accelerometer. Children were categorized as non-overweight (NOW) and overweight/obese (OW) according to the sex-adjusted BMI z-score (<1 and ≥1, resp.). Results. Total and moderate intensity PA were not associated with BMI. We observed that a higher proportion of OW children were classified as low-vigorous PA compared to their NOW peers (43.9 versus 32.1%, resp., P > .05). Logistic regression analysis showed that children with low-vigorous PA had higher odds ratio (OR) to be classified as OW compared to those with high-vigorous PA (OR = 4.4; 95% CI: 1.4–13.4; P = .008) after adjusting for BMI at first and second years of life and other potential confounders.
