Recent studies strongly suggest that gut microbiome can influence brain functions and contribute to the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, reported changes in the gut microbiomes in AD patients from different countries are not similar, and more research is needed to reveal the relationships between human microbiomes and AD in diverse ethnic populations. There is also an assumption that microbiome‐associated peripheral inflammation might drive the development of sporadic AD. This cross‐sectional study is aimed at analyzing the gut microbial profile and exploring potential associations with blood cytokines and some clinical parameters among individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer's in Kazakhstan. Consistent with previous studies, we have found that the microbial landscape in AD reveals specific alterations in the gut microbiome. Specifically, the AD patient group showed a decreased Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio. The differential abundance analysis highlighted a dysbiosis in the gut microbiota of AD patients, marked by a reduced presence of Bifidobacterium, particularly B. breve. In our study, AD patients' altered gut microbiota composition notably features an increased presence of Pseudomonadota like Phyllobacterium and inflammatory bacteria such as Synergistetes and the Christensenellaceae family. The metabolic profiling of the AD microbiome reveals a predominant presence of pathways related to sugar, carrier molecules, tetrapyrrole, pyrimidine biosynthesis, and nucleic acid processing. This analysis also highlighted a marked reduction in SCFA, carbohydrate, polysaccharide, polyamine, and myo‐inositol degradation pathways. The increases in the proinflammatory cytokines IL‐1a, IL‐8, IL‐17A, IL‐12p40, TNF‐β, MCP‐1, IL‐2, and IL‐12p70 and the anti‐inflammatory cytokines IL‐10 and IL‐13 were observed in AD patients. Key variables driving the separation of AD and controls include inflammatory markers (IL‐1a and IL‐8), growth factors (EGF), lipids (LDL), BMI, and gut microbes, like genus Tyzzerella and Turicibacter and species Parabacteroides distasonis and Bacteroides eggerthii. We have also demonstrated that almost all cytokines strongly correlate with serum adiponectin levels and specific microbial taxa in AD patients. Thus, our findings identify potential microbial and inflammatory signatures in an ethnically distinct cohort of AD patients. Objective. Obesity, chronic inflammation, and oxidative stress can influence mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) content. Our objective was to evaluate the oxidation level and content of mtDNA and its relationship with metabolic parameters in metabolically healthy obese (MHO) compared to metabolically unhealthy obese (MUO) and normal weight (NW) controls. Materials and Methods. We studied 94 NW, 95 MHO, and 97 MUO individuals between 18 and 80 years old. Relative mtDNA content and mtDNA oxidation level (8‐oxoguanine, 8‐OxoG) were determined in peripheral blood leukocytes by the SYBR Green method of real‐time PCR. One‐way ANOVA and Tukey test were used to compare biochemical, clinical, and anthropometric characteristics, as well as mtDNA content and 8‐OxoG. Results. A progressive decrease in mtDNA content was observed between NW, MHO, and MUO with significant differences in MUO vs. NW (p: 0.04). An increase in 8‐OxoG was observed in MUO patients compared to the other groups (MUO vs. MHO p: 0.01; MUO vs. NW p: 0.04). mtDNA content was directly correlated with HDL‐c (p < 0.01) and inversely with waist circumference (p: 0.01) and LDL‐c (p: 0.05). mtDNA content decreased, and the oxidation level increased concomitantly with the presence of obesity, the number of MS components, higher coronary risk, and insulin resistance parameters. Conclusion. MHO presented a similar mtDNA oxidation level to NW and mtDNA content to the MUO, placing the MHO individuals as having an intermediate phenotype. Changes in mtDNA content and oxidation were correlated to the lipid profile related to obesity and/or MS presence, probably associated with oxidative stress and chronic low‐grade inflammation. Objectives. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death and disability among persons with diabetes. Early intervention on cardiovascular risk factors (CRFs) is important in reducing CVD burden. The SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth study assessed CRFs in incident cohorts of youth aged <20 years established from 2002 to 2016. Research Design and Methods. Regression models assessed trends over each incident year for lipids (total cholesterol (TC), HDL‐c, LDL‐c, triglycerides (TG), VLDL‐c, and non‐HDL‐c), kidney function (albumin/creatinine ratio (ACR) ≥30 and ≥300, cystatin C, serum creatinine and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR)), systolic and diastolic blood pressure (BP) z‐scores, BMI z‐score, waist circumference (WC), and an inflammatory marker (C‐reactive protein (CRP)). Models were stratified by diabetes type (type 1 diabetes (T1D), N = 4,600; type 2 diabetes (T2D), N = 932) and adjusted for age at diagnosis, sex, race/ethnicity, and diabetes duration. An interaction analysis assessed differential time trends by type. Results. For youth with T1D, all CRFs significantly improved over time, with the exception of ACR > 300, cystatin C, serum creatinine, eGFR, and CRP. For youth with T2D, TC, LDL‐c, and non‐HDL‐c significantly improved, while eGFR, BMI z‐score, and CRP significantly worsened. Significant differences in trends over time by type were seen for TC, HDL‐c, BMI z‐score, BP z‐scores, WC, and CRP. Conclusions. Overall, improvements in CRFs were more often observed in youth with T1D. Youth with T2D had worsening trends over time in BMI z‐score, CRP, and kidney function. Purpose. To determine the relationship between dyslipidemia and dry eye disease (DED), as well as its influence on tear film and meibomian glands. Methods. This cross-sectional study included 40 patients with a mean age of 35.2 ± 13.9 years without any history of dyslipidemia. DED and serum lipid profile were evaluated after 8 hours of fasting. Patients were classified according to serum lipid levels with the following cut-off values: total cholesterol (TC) (200 mg/dl), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) (40 mg/dl), low-density lipoprotein (LDL) (130 mg/dl), and triglycerides (TG) (150 mg/dl). The relationship between serum lipid levels and DED was analyzed with the following variables: dry eye questionnaire-5 (DEQ-5), first (F-NIBUT) and average (A-NIBUT) noninvasive breakup time, tear meniscus height (TMH), lipid layer grade (LLG), conjunctival bulbar redness (CBR), and upper (U-LAMG) and lower (L-LAMG) loss area of meibomian glands. Results. Regarding tear film, patients with elevated TC and LDL levels reported significantly higher DEQ-5 scores and TMH (P < 0.05), while those with lower HDL levels showed significantly higher LLG (p < 0.05). Regarding MGD, patients with elevated TC, LDL, and TG, as well as lower HDL levels showed significantly higher L-LAMG (p < 0.05). HDL was correlated with LLG (p < 0.05), while TC was correlated with TMH (p < 0.05) and L-LAMG (p < 0.05), respectively. Conclusions. This study investigated the effects of low-voltage electrostatic field (LVEF), electron beam irradiation (EBI), and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) on protein and lipid oxidation of pigeon meat (PM) during chilled storage. The water-holding capacity (WHC) and color reflected that the difference between the LVEF-treated (1.20 kV/m) group and the fresh groups was the smallest. The oxidation analysis of protein showed that the LVEF-treated group had smaller values of carbonyl concentration (0.0551 ± 0.0048 μmol/g), larger values of sulfhydryl concentration (0.737 ± 0.0364 μmol/g), and higher Ca2+-ATPase activity (30.10 ± 1.52 U/g) than the C4 group (0.0649 ± 0.0013 μmol/g, 0.510 ± 0.0225 μmol/g, and 25.18 ± 1.42 U/g, respectively). SDS-PAGE demonstrated the ability of LVEF to inhibit the hydrolysis and cross-linking of proteins. Meanwhile, the LVEF-treated group had lower values of TBARs (2.26 ± 0.0371 μg/kg) than the other groups and had a lower lipid oxidation level. In addition, the fatty acids in the LVEF-treated group were similar to those in the fresh group and were beneficial to human health. Inflammation is a well-known risk factor for tumor development. Intervening in chronic inflammation may be an effective approach to inhibit the progression of ulcerative colitis (UC) to colitis-associated colon cancer (CAC). Sophora japonica is a medicinal and food plant commonly used to treat hemorrhoids, bleeding, and inflammation, symptoms that coincide with those of patients with CAC. However, studies on using Sophora japonica to treat CAC are scarce. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory and antitumor effects of Sophora japonica extract (SJE) using dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced UC and azoxymethane (AOM)/DSS-induced CAC models. Furthermore, we employed ultraperformance liquid chromatography–quadrupole time-of-flight–tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC–QTOF–MS/MS) technology to explore the metabolomics mechanism through which SJE inhibited the progression of UC to CAC. The results demonstrated that SJE significantly inhibited UC and CAC and alleviated symptoms such as bloody stools, colon shortening, inflammation, and intestinal tissue damage in model mice. Further, 57 differential metabolites were identified by UPLC–QTOF–MS/MS, which were composed mainly of lipids (fatty acids, glycerophospholipids, sterol lipids, pregnenolone lipids, etc.) and peptides (amino acids). Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis suggested that SJE might inhibit the progression of UC to CAC by regulating lipid metabolic pathways such as arachidonic acid metabolism, primary bile acid biosynthesis, and linoleic acid metabolism. This study, for the first time, substantiated the inhibitory effect of SJE on CAC. Employing metabolomics techniques, the research delved into the potential pathways through which SJE may exert its inhibitory effects on CAC by suppressing the progression of UC. These findings contribute scientific evidence to the application of Sophora japonica in functional foods and the development of natural drugs for the prevention and treatment of UC and CAC. In the present study, our aim was to assess the effect of dietary black soldier fly oil (BSFO) with different lipid contents on the growth performance, body composition, lipid metabolism, and related gene expression in juvenile mirror carp (Cyprinus carpio var. specularis). An 8-week feeding trial was conducted using four isonitrogenous diets (32.0% crude protein) containing two lipid levels: 6% (control (CT) group) and 9% (high lipid (HL) group), both using soybean oil as the oil source. The other two diets contained BSFO on the basis of 6% and 9% lipid, referred to as (CT + BSFO) and (HL + BSFO) groups. The results showed that final body weight, weight gain rate, specific growth rate, protein retention ratio, and feed utilization were significantly increased by using higher dietary lipid levels (P < 0.05). Additionally, the gene expression of lipid synthesis markers was significantly up-regulated in intra-peritoneal fat but significantly down-regulated in the hepatopancreas due to increased dietary lipid level (P < 0.05). No negative effects on feed utilization or growth performance were observed in fish fed diets containing BSFO. However, the intra-peritoneal fat index, adipocyte size, and hepatopancreas lipid content were significantly decreased in the CT + BSFO group compared to the CT group (P < 0.05). Furthermore, BSFO also up-regulated the expression of lipid lipolysis markers in the hepatopancreas and intra-peritoneal fat (P < 0.05). Moreover, the use of BSFO also increased the content of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) while reducing the content of n-6 PUFA in the muscle (P < 0.05). In conclusion, HL diets improved the growth of the fish and increased the lipid deposition. Background. Metformin is commonly prescribed to treat polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients, but in some cases, it may not be effective even at high doses or may cause intolerable side effects. Therefore, recent studies have examined the impact of combining metformin with other antidiabetic medications. Methods. A systematic search was performed in Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase up to 30 June 2023. All interventional studies that assessed the efficacy of different antidiabetic agents were included. Results. Among the 3488 records found in the primary search, 16 papers were included. Our study showed that dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP4i) had the most significant impact on glycemic profile, while thiazolidinediones (TZDs) had the most influence on lipid levels. However, it was observed that patients taking only metformin experienced a greater increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP1RAs) effectively modified various anthropometric measurements, such as weight, body mass index, waist circumference, and waist-to-hip ratio. The effects of different antidiabetic drugs on hormone levels were inconclusive, although testosterone levels were more affected by GLP1RA, sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i), and TZDs. None of the combined therapies showed a significant change in blood pressure. Conclusion. Since PCOS is a metabolic disorder, choosing the best combination of antidiabetic drugs in the clinical course of PCOS patients will be very important. Betaine, a methyl donor, plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism. Previous studies have shown that appropriate betaine supplementation in a high-fat diet reduces triglycerides (TG) of serum and hepatopancreas in fish. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. This study examined whether betaine can enhance the secretion of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and sought to identify the specific mechanisms through which this enhancement occurs. A lipid accumulation model was established in gibel carp and L8824 cells using a high-fat diet and oleic acid, respectively. Different doses of betaine (1, 4, and 16 g/kg in the diet; 400 μmol in cell culture) were administered, and measurements were taken for lipid deposition, gene expression of HNF4α, MTTP, and ApoB, as well as the regulation of Mttp and Apob promoters by HNF4α. The results showed that betaine supplementation mitigated lipid droplet accumulation, TG levels, and VLDL production induced by the high-fat diet in gibel carp hepatopancreas and L8824 cells. Moreover, betaine not only increased VLDL content in the cell culture supernatant but also reversed the inhibitory effects of the high-fat diet on protein expression of MTTP, ApoB, and HNF4α in both gibel carp hepatopancreas and L8824 cells. Additionally, HNF4α exhibits transactivating activity on the promoter of Mttp in gibel carp. These findings suggest that betaine supplementation exerts its effects through the HNF4α/MTTP/ApoB pathway, promoting the assembly and secretion of VLDL and effectively reducing lipid accumulation in the hepatopancreas of farmed gibel carp fed a high-fat diet. Salting is the preferred method used by manufacturers to preserve the quality of fish. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of size and fishing season on the physicochemical and microbiological characteristics of sardines. Two batches of sardines, caught, in winter and summer, were sorted according to size, salted, matured, and stored at 18°C. A control batch, consisting of sardines from the summer batch, was also prepared without subcutaneous fat. Various physicochemical and microbiological parameters were monitored during 12 weeks of maturation. The recorded values showed a decrease in pH, moisture content, and water activity (a measure of the water available for biological and chemical processes), while salt concentration increased. When comparing samples, the lowest values for histamine (94.3 and 48.3 mg/kg) and lipids (9.3 and 8.2%) were observed in the large and small sardines of the winter batch, respectively. In the summer batch, higher values were recorded for histamine (847.3 and 127.9 mg/kg) and lipids (14.5 and 8.6%) in the large and small sardines. Furthermore, the removal of fat in control of the summer batch resulted in lower histamine accumulation compared to the batch with fat. The microbiological parameters showed a decrease in the number of nonhalophile bacteria, while the number of halophile bacteria increased. This study showed a strong correlation between three important factors, fishing season, fish size, and histamine content, which can contribute to the successful salting of sardines and ensure the wholesomeness of the final product. The effects of plant protein sources (PPSs) on the health of the liver and intestine of the largemouth bass, Micropterus salmoides, were compared to verify the potential damaging effects of dietary fiber (DF). A diet containing 55% fish meal (FM) was used as the control. The test diets contained 25% soybean meal (SBM), rapeseed meal (RSM), cottonseed meal, or peanut meal, and the FM content was decreased to 30%. The protein and lipid contents of these five diets were balanced by casein and oil. Fish were raised for 8 weeks. The fish fed the diet containing PPS showed a trend of decreasing growth and apparent digestibility coefficients. The contents of total bile acid, lipid, and collagen in the liver were increased, and the mRNA expression levels of genes encoding inflammatory factors and enzymes involved in de novo fatty acid synthesis and bile acid synthesis were upregulated. Both the lipid and collagen contents in the liver were positively correlated with the DF content in the diet significantly. Morphology and histology showed reduced liver size, hepatic steatosis, and fibrosis in fish fed diets containing PPS. The lowest hepatosomatic index was observed in fish fed the SBM diet, and the most severe damage was observed in fish fed the RSM diet. No obvious histological abnormalities were observed in the hindgut. The bile acid profile in the liver could be used to distinguish the types of PPS very well by Fisher discriminant analysis. These results indicated that 25% of each of the four PPSs in the diet exceeded the tolerance range of largemouth bass and caused liver damage, which might be mediated by bile acid. The purpose of this trial was to study the positive effects of bile acids (BAs) on growth performance and intestinal health of rice field eel fed with high-lipid diets (HLDs). Rice field eels (initial weight 17.00 ± 0.10 g) were divided into four groups, each group containing four repetitions and feeding with different isonitrogenous diet: control diet containing 7% lipid content, HLDs containing the lipid content increased to 13%, HLDs supplementing with 0.025% BAs and 0.05% BAs, respectively. After 8 weeks, compared control group, the fish fed HLDs had no significant effect on weight gain rate and specific growth rate (P > 0.05), but increased the lipid deposition in tissues and intestinal lipase activity, and damaged to intestinal oxidative stress, inflammatory response, physical barrier, and structural integrity (P < 0.05). Dietary BAs significantly increased weight gain rate and specific growth rate in fish fed with HL diets (P < 0.05) and reduced feed conversation rate (P < 0.05). Further, the eels fed with BAs reduced the total lipid content in liver, muscle, and whole body (P < 0.05). Dietary BAs decreased the activity of intestinal lipase (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, BAs supplemented in HLDs improved intestinal antioxidant capacity through increasing the activities of T-SOD (total superoxide dismutase), GSH-PX (glutathione peroxidase), CAT (catalase), T-AOC (total antioxidant capacity), whereas reducing MDA (malondialdehyde) content (P < 0.05). Moreover, dietary BAs regulated the mRNA expression related to inflammatory response, oxidative stress, and physical barrier in intestine, such as tnf-α, il-8, tlr-8, il-10, nrf2, keap1, claudin12, and claudin15 (P < 0.05). Dietary BAs supplementation also enhanced the intestinal structural integrity characterized by increased fold height and lamina propria width (P < 0.05). This study showed that dietary BAs supplemented in HLDs (13% lipid) could increase the growth performance of rice field eel, reduce lipid deposition in tissues and whole body, and enhance intestinal health. To investigate the dietary cholesterol requirements of large red swamp crayfish (Procambarus clarkii), crayfish (initial body weight: 13.49 ± 0.22 g) were hand-fed six diets containing 2.47 (C0), 4.27 (C1), 6.80 (C2), 8.77 (C3), 11.74 (C4), and 14.24 (C5) g/kg cholesterol. After 8 weeks of feeding, the maximum weight gain rate and specific growth rate occurred in group C4. The lowest feed conversion ratio was observed in group C3. Total flesh percentage increased significantly by 15.33% in group C2 compared to group C0. The increase in dietary cholesterol resulted in significant quadratic trends in concentrations of crude protein and lipid in muscle and whole body; cholesterol and free fatty acid in hemolymph, hepatopancreas, and muscle; activities of lipase and amylase in hepatopancreas and intestine; and total antioxidant capacity and catalase activity in hepatopancreas. Group C3 experienced a noteworthy increase in hemolymph glucose and total protein content compared to group C0. Additionally, malondialdehyde content and superoxide dismutase activity in hepatopancreas displayed significant linear and quadratic trends. The aim of this trial was to investigate the effects of apple polyphenols (AP) and taurine (TA) on the growth performance, tissue morphology, and lipid and glucose metabolism in rice field eel fed diets with high oxidized fish oil (OFO). A 10-week feeding experiment was conducted using juveniles (initial body weight 16.66 ± 0.02 g) fed five different diets. Three diets were formulated with various levels of OFO at 9.5, 600, and 800 meq·kg−1 and named as Control, POV600, and POV800 diet, respectively. The other two diets were POV600 and POV800 supplemented with 0.5% AP and 0.2% TA, respectively. Compared to the Control group, only the eels fed POV800 exhibited an increase in weight gain and specific growth rate along with a reduction in feed conversion ratio. AP and TA did not affect growth performance; juveniles fed AP, however, showed a decrease in liver weight. Both POV600 and POV800 decreased nuclei number and increased vacuoles size in the liver. POV800 damaged the intestinal structure integrity and reduced goblet cells number. AP repaired the liver damage on nuclei number and vacuoles size in fish fed with POV600 diet, while TA mitigated intestinal histopathological damage on intact structure and goblet cells number. The mRNA expression level of liver ampkα in fish fed AP was upregulated, while dietary TA upregulated the mRNA expression levels of liver ampkα and accα. In the muscle, POV600 downregulated mRNA expression levels of accα, cpt1, and lipin, whereas POV800 upregulated mRNA expression levels of accα, pparα, and lipin. Dietary AP and TA could counteract the effects of POV600 and POV800 diet on muscle lipid metabolism. Both POV600 and POV800 diets upregulated mRNA expression levels of liver pck1 and gsk3α. AP and TA both downregulated mRNA expression level of liver pck1, while only TA downregulated the expression of liver gsk3α. AP increased the mRNA expression level of gsk3α in muscle. In summary, inclusion of AP and TA did not affect growth performance but showed a potential to alleviate liver or intestinal damages induced by a high OFO diet. With current advancements in technology allowing for genetic modification of crops, canola has been modified to contain n3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids such as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of using genetically modified canola oil as a DHA and EPA replacement for Menhaden fish oil (FO) in practical diets for Pacific white shrimp Litopeneaus vannamei. This trial was conducted using twenty-four 750 L tanks stocked at 40 shrimp per tank (0.1 ± 0.007 g initial weight) and grown for 63 days. Shrimp were fed one of five experimental diets (36% protein, 8% lipid) with supplemental FO replacement varying from 75% to 100% twice daily (7 a.m. and 7 p.m.). Two of the diets contained 15% fishmeal (FM) as the basal protein source, while the other three diets were FM free, allowing for complete removal of DHA sources in the basal formulation. While basal FO was removed, none of the experimental diets were completely devoid of FO. Shrimp were harvested and frozen after 9 weeks to be used for lipid extraction and taste and texture analysis by an untrained panel to mimic consumer responses. Results were subjected to a two-way analysis of variance, with significant differences observed in final mean weight (8.47–10.59 g) (p = 0.0275), individual weight gain (8.37–10.48 g) (p = 0.0279), and weekly gain (0.84–1.05 g) (p = 0.0378). Human sensory analysis did not yield significant differences between measured taste parameters (p > 0.05). Lipid extraction and analysis results showed that fatty acid concentrations from whole shrimp samples correlate with diet lipid profiles except for EPA. There is no significant difference (p > 0.05) in EPA concentrations in whole shrimp samples regardless of diet. Background. Podocarpus gracilis is an evergreen, dioecious tree found in Ethiopia and other African nations. It can reach a height of 60 meters. Without any scientific validation, ethnobotanical studies conducted in Ethiopia revealed that the Podocarpus gracilis plant's leaf is consumed orally to treat diabetes mellitus. Hence, this study aims to evaluate the in vivo blood glucose level lowering, lipid-lowering, and in vitro-free radical scavenging responses of Podocarpus gracilis leaf extract and fractions on experimental mice induced with diabetes. Methods. The in vitro antioxidant activity of PGC (Podocarpus gracilis) leaf extract was assessed by using a diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. The oral glucose-loaded, normoglycemic, and streptozotocin- (STZ-) induced diabetic mouse models were employed. In the STZ-induced mice model, the leaf extract and solvent fractions activity on serum lipid and weight were also measured. The extract and fractions were tested at 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg dosages. One-way ANOVA was used to determine the statistical significance of BGL (blood glucose level) changes within and between groups, and Tukey's post hoc multiple comparisons were then performed. Results. In the acute toxicity study of Podocarpus gracilis leaf extract and fractions, there was no evidence of animal mortality at the maximum dose of 2 g/kg during the observation period. The extract-treated group with normoglycemia revealed a significant lowering in BGL at the 4-hour mark of 27.4% (p < 0.001) and 25.2% (p < 0.01) at doses of 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg, respectively, compared to that in negative control. In the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) model, only 400 mg/kg treated groups at 120 min after exposure showed a BGL reduction of 31.17% which was statistically significant (p < 0.05) in comparison to the negative control. In the single-dose STZ-induced model, eighth-hour BGL measurements from CE 100, CE 200, CE 400, and GLC5 showed drops in BGL of 43.1%, 44.1%, 45%, and 47.3% from baseline fasting BGL values. In the repeated streptozotocin (STZ)-induced model, at all doses of leaf extract and fractions, the fasting BGL was significantly (p < 0.001) reduced. Moreover, the leaf extract and solvent fractions have shown a significant (p < 0.001) reduction of serum lipids such as LDL, TC, and VLDL, and at the same time, it increases HDL at 14 days with body weight gained. In the test for antioxidant activity, the half-maximal inhibitory concentrations (IC50) for leaf extract and the standard medication (ascorbic acid) were 8.2 μg/ml and 3.3 μg/ml, respectively. The IC50 value denotes the concentration of the sample required to scavenge 50% DPPH radicals. Conclusion. The 80% hydromethanolic leaf extract and fractions of Podocarpus gracilis exhibited blood glucose lowering, lipid-lowering activity in normoglycemic, oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) mode, and STZ-induced diabetic mice with weight gains. Structured lipids have attracted significant interest in industries, such as food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics, because they can be alternatives to traditional lipids. Enzymatic synthesis techniques utilizing lipases have gained attention for structured lipids synthesis because of their site and substrate specificity. However, most lipases discovered to date exhibit sn-1,3 regiospecificity or nonspecificity, limiting the selective range of natural oils and fats that can be used as raw materials. In this review, we provide an overview of the current synthesis methods and applications of structured lipids and the limitations of existing lipases in producing structured lipids. In addition, we discuss innovative approaches, including metagenomics, and machine learning, to discover, and classify new lipases and the use of gene editing technologies for lipase engineering. These efforts aim to overcome the limitations of existing lipases and expand the range of natural oils and fats that can be used for the production of structured lipids. This study investigated the dietary effects of lipid and protein levels on growth performance, feed utilization, body composition, lipid metabolism, and antioxidant capacity of triploid rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss. A 3 × 2 two-factor design was conducted with three crude lipid levels of 4%, 9%, and 14% (L4, L9, and L14) and two crude protein levels of 44%, 49% (P44, P49). Therefore, a total of six diets were prepared as P44/L4, P44/L9, P44/L14, P49/L4, P49/L9, and P49/L14. Triploid rainbow trout (initial body weight 65.0 ± 0.1 g) were fed one of the six diets for 80 days. The results showed that weight gain (WG), protein retention (PR), and protein efficiency rate (PER) significantly increased with increasing the dietary lipid level at the same crude protein level, while feed conversion ratio (FCR) and hepatosomatic index significantly decreased (P < 0.05). At the same lipid level, there was no difference in WG, FCR, PR, PER between 44% and 49% crude protein group (P > 0.05). The P49/L14 group had the highest WG (374.6%) and lowest FCR (1.25), while P44/L14 group had the highest PER (1.80) and PR (25.06%) with similar WG and FCR to P49/L14 group. The crude lipid contents in whole fish were significantly higher in the L14 group than those in the L4 and L9 groups (P < 0.05). Muscle n-3 PUFAs, n-6 PUFAs, and PUFAs levels were positively correlated with dietary lipid level, while n-6 PUFAs was negatively correlated with dietary protein level. Dietary protein, dietary lipid, and their interaction significantly affected hepatic malondialdehyde (MDA) content, aspartate aminotransferase, lipase (LPS), and fatty acid synthase (FAS) activities (P < 0.05). In both P44 and P49 groups, LPS and FAS activities increased with increasing the dietary lipid level. MDA content significantly decreased in the P44 group and increased in the P49 group with increasing the dietary lipid level (P < 0.05). As dietary protein level increased, serum total cholesterol level increased, while hepatic phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase activity decreased. With increasing the dietary lipid level, total superoxide dismutase, catalase, total nitric oxide synthase, and fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase activities showed an increasing trend, while the opposite was true for alanine aminotransferase activity. In conclusion, based on growth performance and feed utilization, dietary protein level of 44% and dietary lipid level of 14% (measured value, 43.71% and 13.62%) were suggested for young triploid rainbow trout. A 3 × 2 factorial experiment (protein levels, 42%, 46%, 50%; lipid levels, 9%, 12%) with three replicates was conducted in a circulating water system to investigate the effects of dietary protein and lipid levels on growth, feed utilization, body composition, and serum biochemical parameters of growing rockfish Sebastes schlegeli (initial weight, 29.98 ± 0.10 g). After an 8 weeks feeding trial, growth performance in terms of final body weight, percent weight gain, and specific growth rate increased with the increase of dietary protein level when fish fed diets containing a consistent level of dietary lipid. The feed conversion rate and daily feed intake were significantly affected by dietary protein and lipid levels, and decreased as dietary protein level increased from 42% to 46% or dietary lipid level increased from 9% to 12% (P < 0.05). Survival rate, viscerosomatic index, and hepatosomatic index were unaffected by dietary protein level (P > 0.05), but significantly increased with the increase of dietary lipid level (P < 0.05). On the contrary, condition factor was unaffected by dietary lipid level (P > 0.05), but significantly increased with dietary protein level increasing up to 46% (P < 0.05). The moisture contents of muscle and liver significantly decreased, but the whole-body crude lipid content, the crude protein and lipid contents of muscle increased as dietary protein or lipid level increased (P < 0.05). The contents of isoleucine, leucine, histidine, glycine, alanine of muscle, as well as the proportions of C14 : 0, C20 : 1, and C22 : 1n-9 in total fatty acids were higher in fish fed diets containing 12% lipid than those fed 9% lipid (P < 0.05), while C18 : 1n-9 and C18 : 2n-6 followed an opposite trend. The contents of phenylalanine, lysine, and tyrosine as well as the proportions of C18 : 0, C18 : 2n-6, C22 : 1n-9, and C22 : 6n-3 in total fatty acids decreased with the increase of dietary protein level (P < 0.05). Serum cholesterol and low-density lipoproteins increased significantly with dietary protein or lipid levels increasing, but TG concentration was elevated significantly in fish fed diets containing 12% lipid. The present study investigated the sequential regulation signals of high-carbohydrate diet (HCD)-induced hepatic lipid deposition in gibel carp (Carassius gibelio). Two isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets, containing 25% (normal carbohydrate diet, NCD) and 45% (HCD) corn starch, were formulated to feed gibel carp (14.82 ± 0.04 g) for 8 weeks. The experimental fish were sampled at 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th week. In HCD group, the hyperlipidemia and significant hepatic lipid deposition (oil red O area and triglyceride content) was found at 4th, 6th, and 8th week, while the significant hyperglycemia was found at 2nd, 4th, and 8th week, compared to NCD group (P < 0.05). HCD induced hepatic lipid deposition via increased hepatic lipogenesis (acc, fasn, and acly) but not decreased hepatic lipolysis (hsl and cpt1a). When compared with NCD group, HCD significantly elevated the hepatic sterol regulatory element binding proteins 1 (SREBP1) signals (positive hepatocytes and fluorescence intensity) at 4th, 6th, and 8th week (P < 0.05). The hepatic SREBP1 signals increased from 2nd to 6th week, but decreased at 8th week due to substantiated insulin resistance (plasma insulin levels, plasma glucose levels, and P-AKTSer473 levels) in HCD group. Importantly, the hepatic carbohydrate response element binding protein (ChREBP) signals (positive hepatocytes, fluorescence intensity, and expression levels) were all significantly elevated by HCD-induced glucose-6-phosphate (G6P) accumulation at 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th week (P < 0.05). Compared to 2nd and 4th week, the hepatic ChREBP signals and G6P contents was significantly increased by HCD at 6th and 8th week (P < 0.05). The HCD-induced G6P accumulation was caused by the significantly increased expression of hepatic gck, pklr, and glut2 (P < 0.05) but not 6pfk at 4th, 6th, and 8th week, compared to NCD group. These results suggested that the HCD-induced hepatic lipid deposition was mainly promoted by SREBP1 in earlier stage and by ChREBP in later stage for gibel carp. Aim. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease with heterogeneous risk factors. Metabolic perturbations in the pathogenesis of the disease are remarkable to illuminate the interaction between genetic and environmental factors and how islet immunity and overt diabetes develop. This review aimed to integrate the metabolic changes of T1D to identify potential biomarkers for predicting disease progression based on recent metabolomics and lipidomics studies with parallel methodologies. Methods. A total of 18 metabolomics and lipidomics studies of childhood T1D during the last 15 years were reviewed. The metabolic fingerprints consisting of 41 lipids and/or metabolite classes of subjects with islet autoantibodies, progressors of T1D, and T1D children were mapped in four-time dimensions based on a tentative effect-score rule. Results. From birth, high-risk T1D subjects had decreased unsaturated triacylglycerols, unsaturated phosphatidylcholines (PCs), sphingomyelins (SMs), amino acids, and metabolites in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. On the contrary, lysophosphatidylcholines (LPCs) and monosaccharides increased. And LPCs and branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) were elevated before the appearance of islet autoantibodies but were lowered after seroconversion. Choline-related lipids (including PCs, SMs, and LPCs), BCAAs, and metabolites involved in the TCA cycle were identified as consensus biomarkers potentially predicting the development of islet autoimmunity and T1D. Decreased LPCs and amino acids indicated poor glycemic control of T1D, while elevated lysophosphatidylethanolamines and saturated PCs implied good glycemic control. Further pathway analysis revealed that biosynthesis of aminoacyl-tRNA, BCAAs, and alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism were significantly enriched. Moreover, established cohort studies and predictive statistical models of pediatric T1D were also summarized. Conclusion. The metabolic profile of high-risk T1D subjects and patients demonstrated significant changes compared with healthy controls. Chronic alcohol consumption damages bone formation and causes bone pathology, including osteonecrosis of the femoral head. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of the leaf aqueous extract of Chromolaena odorata (C. odorata) on the femoral head in ethanol-induced osteonecrosis in rats. Animals received alcohol (40°) at 3 g/kg for 12 weeks. A group of animals were sacrificed to attest to the instalment of osteonecrosis by using histopathological analysis. The remaining animals received alcohol concomitantly with the plant extract (150, 300, or 600 mg/kg) or diclofenac (1 mg/kg) for 28 additional days. At the end of the experimental period, biochemical parameters including total cholesterol, triglycerides, calcium, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), reduced glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA), nitrite, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase activities were measured. Histopathological and histomorphometry analyses of femurs were also assessed. The administration of alcohol, irrespective of the experimental period, induced a significant increase in total cholesterol p < 0.05 and triglyceride p < 0.01 and a decrease in ALP p < 0.05 and calcium (p < 0.05 – p < 0.001) levels. Intoxicated animals showed an alteration in oxidative stress parameters accompanied by a significant drop in bone cortical thickness and density with necrosis and marked bone resorption. The concomitant administration of the plant with ethanol reversed the alcohol-induced bone defect, characterized by the improvement of the lipid profile p < 0.001 , bone calcium concentration p < 0.05 , bone ALP activity p < 0.001 , oxidative stress parameters, improved cortical bone thickness p < 0.01 , and bone density p < 0.05 . These results are supported by the absence of bone resorption with an obvious effect at a dose of 300 mg/kg. The pharmacological effect of the extract on ethanol-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head is probably due to its osteogenic, hypolipidemic, and antioxidant properties, justifying its use in Cameroonian folk medicine for articulation and bone pain management. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a group of disorders that involve the heart or blood vessels and are the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Natural products have several pharmacological activities, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunoregulatory properties. This review summarizes the possible therapeutic effects of Genistein on CVD. The information from the current review study was obtained by searching for the keywords such as "Genistein", "Cardiac dysfunction", "hypertrophy", and "Ischemia" "lipid profile" in different online database such as PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, until February 2022. The results of the studies showed that genistein intake has a promising effect on improving cardiac dysfunction, ischemia, and reperfusion of the heart, decreasing cardiac toxicity, modulating lipid profile, and lowering blood pressure. The preventive effects of genistein on experimental models of studies were shown through mechanisms such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory effects. Pharmacological effects of genistein on cardiac dysfunction, cardiac toxicity, lipid profile, and hypertension indicate the possible remedy effect of this agent in the treatment of CVD. This study sought to examine the role of bile acids in the regulation of glucose and lipid metabolism, intestinal flora, and growth in high-fat diet-fed common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.). Fish (6.34 ± 0.07 g) were fed for 56 days with three different diets, the control diet (CO, 5.4% lipid), high-fat diet (HF, 11% lipid), and high-fat diet with 60 mg/kg bile acids (BAs, 11% lipid). The results showed that high-fat diets resulted in poor growth performance and increased triglyceride (TG) in serum and the liver. The addition of bile acids significantly alleviated the adverse effects of a high-fat diet. The mRNA expression results indicated that bile acids may improve lipid metabolism through the enhancement of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPARa). The expression of gluconeogenesis-related phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) mRNA was inhibited, while fibroblast growth factor 19 (FGF19) was significantly higher. Bile acids reshaped the intestinal microflora community, with the level of Bacteroidetes increasing. The correlation analysis indicated that Patescibacteria, Dependentiae, Myxococcota, and Planctomycetota in the gut are associated with genes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism. Previous studies reported a relationship between thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. In this study, we aim to evaluate the impact of TSH levels on lipid profile in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) and euthyroid state. Patients were selected from the Isfahan FH registry. The Dutch Lipid Clinic Network (DLCN) criteria are used to detect FH. Patients were classified into no FH, possible FH, probable FH, and definite FH groups based on the DLCN scores. Patients with any cause of secondary hyperlipidemia, including hypothyroidism, were excluded from this study. The study group consisted of 103 patients with possible FH, 25 patients with definite FH, and 63 individuals with no FH. The mean TSH and LDL-C levels among participants were 2.10 ± 1.22 mU/l and 142.17 ± 62.56 mg/dl, respectively. No positive or negative correlation was found between serum TSH and total cholesterol (P value = 0.438), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P = 0.225), triglycerides (P value = 0.863), and LDL-C (P value = 0.203). Background. Cardiovascular disease is the cause of one-third of deaths worldwide because of increased risk factors, such as intake of cholesterol and saturated fat. Atherosclerosis begins in childhood; therefore, nutritional prevention should begin at an early stage. This study assessed the lipid profile, atherogenic, and castill's risk index intake of Apis melifera-based complementary foods using an in vivo mouse model. Methods. The experiment was conducted for 28 days. A total of 75 male white albino mice were randomly assigned to five diets in triplicate. The diets were Diet 1 = casein diet; Diet 2 = (57% maize, 29% teff, 14% soybean); Diet 3 = (58% maize, 29% teff, 13% bee larvae); Diet 4 = commercial wean mix; Diet 5 = basal diet alone. Mouse blood samples were collected by cardiac puncture. The lipid profiles of TC, TG, HDL-C, and LDL-C were analysed using an automated pentra C400 made in France. Results. Biochemical (mg/dl) parameters showed that mice fed Diet 3 had high (P ≤ 0.001), TG (167.79), HDL-C (67.18), and low LDL-C (71.73) levels. The atherogenic indices CRI-I (1.84), CRI-II (1.07), and AC (0.84) were low in Diet 3. The atherogenicity indices showed a significant positive correlation (P ≤ 0.001) with one another as follows: CRI-I vs. CRI-II (r = 0.919), CRI-I vs. AC (r = 1), and CRI-II vs. AC (r = 0.919). Conclusion. The results of the present investigation confirm that intake of an Apis mellifera-based diet could prevent children from atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in a mouse model. Background and Aim. The adiponectin gene (ADIPQ) has been identified as a human adiposity marker of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in several ethnic cultures. This study aimed to determine the allelic genotypes and haplotypes distribution of the ADIPQ gene polymorphisms and its association with body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and lipid profile in MetS adult Sudanese patients. Methodology. Four hundred and twenty middle-aged adults participated in this community-based case-control research. BMI (kg/m2) and blood pressure (BP) were measured. HbA1c (%) and lipid profile evaluation was performed on fasting blood samples. The guanidine extraction procedure was used to extract genomic DNA from EDTA whole blood by using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP); samples were genotyped for the polymorphisms (rs266729), (rs2241766), and (rs1501299). Results. There is a significant difference in genotypic frequencies of the rs266729, rs2241766, and rs1501299 SNPs and allele frequencies P < 0.05 between the MetS patients and non-MetS group. MetS patients had a significantly higher serum triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) in the GG genotype of rs2241766 P < 0.05 . Additionally; the TT genotype of rs1501299 had higher SBP, serum TG, TC, and LDL-C P < 0.05 . Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed hypertension, hyperglycemia, BMI, WC, serum TG, ADIPOQ rs2241766 (TG allele), and ADIPOQ rs1501299 (GT allele) had independently predicted the incidence of metabolic syndrome in the Sudanese population. The three investigated SNPs of ADIPOQ were in a moderate linkage disequilibrium (LD) connection according to the LD measures (D' = 0.54, 0.62, and 0.69, respectively). The CTT, CGG, and GTG haplotypes, which consist of three alleles of −11377C > G, +45T > G, and +276G > T, were shown to report 1.788-, 1.622,- and 1.641-fold risks toward MetS susceptibility in Sudanese's population, respectively. Conclusion. Along with clinical and biochemical signs, the ADIPOQ gene's genetic variants (rs266729, rs2241766, and rs1501299), CTT, CGG, and GTG haplotypes are connected to the MetS risk among the Sudanese population. High levels of cholesterol and triglycerides may have a negative effect on the immune system and bone health, leading to lower bone mineral density, an increased risk of osteoporosis, and bone fractures, and could therefore also be related to a significant worsening of peri-implant health. The purpose of the following study was to evaluate whether the altered lipid profile in patients who undergo implant insertion surgery represents a prognostic factor capable of influencing clinical outcomes. This prospective observational study was conducted on 93 subjects; patients were required to have taken blood tests to obtain triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels prior to the surgical procedure to classify them according to current American Heart Association guidelines. The outcomes considered were marginal bone loss (MBL) 3 years after implant placement, full-mouth plaque score (FMPS), and full-mouth bleeding score (FMBS) 3 years after surgery. A statistically significant correlation was found between hypertriglyceridemia and MBL as well as between total cholesterol and MBL. There is no statistically significant correlation between the variables analyzed and the secondary outcomes 3 years after implant placement. Peri-implant marginal bone loss may be influenced by hyperlipidemia. However, further studies are needed, with larger samples and more extensive follow-ups, to confirm these results. Lipid keratopathy (LK) is a rare disease involving lipid deposition in the cornea resulting in corneal opacification. Primary LK can arise sporadically while secondary LK is seen in patients with a history of ocular trauma, medication exposure, infection, inflammation, or disorders resulting in derangements of lipid metabolism. Secondary LK is more common and occurs due to neovascularization. Use of precipitating medications should be considered in LK workup, particularly for patients in whom other etiologies have been ruled out. Brimonidine, an ocular hypotensive medication, can be associated with LK. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) causes chronic hepatitis by establishing a persistent infection. Patients with chronic hepatitis frequently develop hepatic cirrhosis, which can lead to liver cancer—the progressive liver damage results from the host's immune response to the unresolved infection. The HCV replication process, including the entry, replication, assembly, and release stages, while the virus circulates in the bloodstream, it is intricately linked to the host's lipid metabolism, including the dynamic of the cytosolic lipid droplets (cLDs). This review article depicts how this interaction regulates viral cell tropism and aids immune evasion by coining viral particle characteristics. cLDs are intracellular organelles that store most of the cytoplasmic components of neutral lipids and are assumed to play an increasingly important role in the pathophysiology of lipid metabolism and host-virus interactions. cLDs are involved in the replication of several clinically significant viruses, where viruses alter the lipidomic profiles of host cells to improve viral life cycles. cLDs are involved in almost every phase of the HCV life cycle. Indeed, pharmacological modulators of cholesterol synthesis and intracellular trafficking, lipoprotein maturation, and lipid signaling molecules inhibit the assembly of HCV virions. Likewise, small-molecule inhibitors of cLD-regulating proteins inhibit HCV replication. Thus, addressing the molecular architecture of HCV replication will aid in elucidating its pathogenesis and devising preventive interventions that impede persistent infection and prevent disease progression. In healthy adults, the association between the glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) level and intima-media thickness (IMT) is stronger in the femoral artery than that in the carotid artery. However, whether this differential strength of association also applies to adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D) is unknown. Therefore, this study aimed to examine whether IMT increases in extracarotid arteries (specifically in the lower extremities) prior to the carotid artery. In total, 286 adolescents with T1D (15.9 ± 4.9 years; 42.0% male participants) were enrolled, and the B-mode ultrasonographic measurement of IMT in the carotid, femoral, and popliteal arteries was performed. Cardiovascular risk factors, including blood pressure (BP), body mass index, lipid levels, and glycemic parameters, were evaluated. To evaluate the site-dependent relationship between IMT and cardiovascular risk factors, a linear mixed-effects model was developed with repeated IMT measurements at various arterial sites as fixed effects and participants as random effects. Glycemic parameters, lipids, uric acid, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, and advanced glycation end-products were some cardiovascular risk factors that worsened with increasing HbA1c levels. Patients with a higher HbA1c level (>10% vs. ≤10%) had thicker IMT in the femoral artery but not in the carotid or popliteal arteries. Patients with poorer diabetic control exhibited significant changes in certain cardiovascular functions, including central systolic BP, left ventricular (LV) ejection time, LV dp/dt max, stroke volume, and brachial artery compliance. A standard mediation analysis revealed that none of the aforementioned cardiovascular functions mediated the relationship between higher HbA1c level and greater femoral IMT. In adolescents with T1D, cardiovascular risk factors deteriorate with worsening blood glucose control. In the early stages of T1D, femoral IMT may serve as a more sensitive surrogate marker for hyperglycemia-induced subclinical atherosclerosis, an effect that may not be mediated by alterations in cardiovascular functions. An eight-week feeding trial explored the mechanism that supplemented methionine (0 g/kg, 4 g/kg, 8 g/kg, and 12 g/kg) in a high-fat diet (120 g/kg fat) on intestinal lipid transportation and gut microbiota of M. Albus (initial weight 25.03 ± 0.13 g) based on the diet (60 g/kg fat), named as Con, HFD+M0, HFD+M4, HFD+M8, and HFD+M12, respectively. Compared with Con, gastric amylase, lipase, trypsin (P < 0.05), and intestinal lipase, amylase, trypsin, Na+/K+ -Adenosinetriphosphatase, depth of gastric fovea, and the number of intestinal villus goblet cells of HFD+M0 were markedly declined (P < 0.05), while intestinal high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, very low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol and microsomal triglyceride transfer protein of HFD+M0 were markedly enhanced (P < 0.05); compared with HFD+M0, gastric lipase, amylase, trypsin, and intestinal lipase, trypsin, Na+/K+ -Adenosinetriphosphatase, microsomal triglyceride transfer protein, very low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, and apolipoprotein -A, the height of intestinal villus and the number of intestinal villus goblet cells of HFD+M8 were remarkably enhanced (P < 0.05). Compared with Con, intestinal occ, cl12, cl15, zo-1, zo-2 of HFD + M0 were markedly down-regulated (P <0.05), while intestinal vldlr, npc1l1, cd36, fatp1, fatp2, fatp6, fatp7, apo, apoa, apob, apof, apoo, mct1, mct2, mct4, mct7, mct12, lpl, mttp, moat2, dgat2 of HFD M0 were remarkably upregulated (P < 0.05); compared with HFD+M0, intestinal gcn2 and eif2α of HFD+M8 were remarkably downregulated (P < 0.05), intestinal occ, cl12, cl15, zo-1, zo-2, hdlbp, ldlrap, vldlr, cd36, fatp1, fatp2, fatp6, apo, apoa, apob, apof, apoo, mct1, mct2, mct8, mct12, lpl, mttp, moat2, and dgat2 were remarkably upregulated (P < 0.05). Compared with Con, the diversity of gut microbiota of HFD+M0 was significantly declined (P < 0.05), while the diversity of gut microbiota in HFD+M8 was significantly higher than that in HFD+M0 (P < 0.05). In conclusion, a high-fat methionine deficiency diet destroyed the intestinal barrier, reduced the capacity of intestinal digestion and absorption, and disrupted the balance of gut microbiota; supplemented methionine promoted the digestion and absorption of lipids, and also improved the balance of gut microbiota. Introduction. While cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) core biomarkers have been considered diagnostic biomarkers for a long time, special attention has been recently dedicated to lipoproteins and metabolites that could be potentially associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD) neurodegeneration. Herein, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the levels of CSF core biomarkers including Aβ-42, TAU, and P-TAU and plasma lipoproteins and metabolites of patients with AD from the baseline cohort of the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) database. Method. Using the ADNI database, fourteen subclasses of lipoproteins as well as a number of lipids and fatty acids and low-molecular metabolites including amino acids, ketone bodies, and glycolysis-related metabolites in blood samples were measured as potential noninvasive markers, and their association with the CSF core biomarkers was statistically investigated controlling for age and gender. Results. A total number of 251 AD subjects were included, among whom 71 subjects were negative for the Apo-E ε4 allele and 150 were positive. There was no significant difference between the two groups regarding cognitive assessments, CSF core biomarkers, and lipoproteins and metabolites except the level of Aβ-42 (p < 0.001) and phenylalanine (p = 0.049), which were higher in the negative group. CSF TAU and P-TAU were significantly correlated with medium and small HDL in the negative group, and with extremely large VLDL in the positive group. Our results also indicated significant correlations of metabolites including unsaturated fatty acids, glycerol, and leucine with CSF core biomarkers. Conclusion. Based on our findings, a number of lipoproteins and metabolites were associated with CSF core biomarkers of AD. These correlations showed some differences in Apo-E ε4 positive and negative groups, which reminds the role of Apo-E gene status in the pathophysiology of AD development. Background. Lipid profile and its related ratios such as total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), TG/HDL-C ratio, TC/HDL-C ratio, LDL-C/HDL-C ratio, white blood cell (WBC)/HDL-C ratio, and fasting blood glucose (FBG)/HDL-C ratio are valuable indicators that have been studied in various disorders to predict mortality. The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the role of lipid profile ratios in predicting mortality in COVID-19 patients. Methods. At the beginning of hospitalization, laboratory tests were taken from all patients (n = 300). The ability of lipid profile ratios to determine the COVID-19 severity was evaluated using receiver-operating characteristic (ROC). In addition, survival probability was determined with the average of Kaplan-Meier curves, so that the end point was death. Results. In deceased patients, TG, TC, LDL-C, HDL-C, TC/HDL-C, TG/HDL-C, and LDL-C/HDL-C parameters were significantly lower than those of surviving patients, while WBC/HDL-C and FBG/HDL-C were significantly higher. TC (HR = 3.178 , 95 % CI = 1.064 to 9.491, P < 0.05), TG (HR = 3.276 , 95 % CI = 1.111 to 9.655, P < 0.05), LDL-C (HR = 3.207 , 95 % CI = 1.104 to 9.316, P < 0.05), and HDL-C (HR = 3.690 , 95 % CI = 1.290 to 10.554, P < 0.05), as well as TC/HDL-C (HR = 3.860 , 95 % CI = 1.289 to 11.558, P < 0.05), TG/HDL-C (HR = 3.860 , 95 % CI = 1.289 to 11.558, P < 0.05), LDL-C/HDL-C (HR = 3.915 , 95 % CI = 1.305 to 11.739, P < 0.05), WBC/HDL-C (HR = 3.232 , 95 % CI = 1.176 to 8.885, P < 0.05), and FBG/HDL-C ratios (HR = 4.474 , 95 % CI = 1.567 to 12.777, P < 0.01), were detectably related to survival. The multivariate Cox regression models showed that only FBG/HDL-C ratio (HR = 5.477 , 95 % CI = 1.488 to 20.153, P < 0.01) was significantly related to survival. Conclusion. The nursery culture of bivalves typically relies on the feeding of costly live microalgae, while the use of natural sources of phytoplankton for feed is uncertain due to their variable quality and abundance. Replacement diets have been applied in bivalve nursery culture to replace live microalgae with varying success. This study investigated the potential use of two concentrated microalgal diets at a range of levels of substitution with live microalgae. Shellfish Diet 1800® (called SD) and LPB™ Frozen Shellfish Diet® (called LPB) were fed to juvenile green-lipped mussels (Perna canaliculus) at five levels of substitution for live microalgae (i.e., 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100%) for 27 days. The mortality of mussels fed with 100% LPB replacement was significantly higher than the mortality of mussels fed at the lower levels of replacement, i.e., 0 and 25%. The overall final size of spat tended to decrease with the increasing level replacement of live microalgae. Proximate analysis (i.e., crude ash-free dry weight, crude protein, crude lipid, and carbohydrate) showed that only the proportion of carbohydrate content of spat was influenced by feeding treatments, with the mean total carbohydrate content of mussels tending to decrease with increasing levels of replacement of live microalgae. The results indicate that both concentrated microalgal feeds (SD and LPB) are effective at replacing live microalgae by up to 50% without compromising the survival and nutritional profile (AFDW, protein, lipid, and carbohydrate content) of juvenile green-lipped mussels and are therefore a useful resource for improving the efficiency of production. Background. Patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing 3 (PNPLA3) is a major susceptibility gene for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and its rs738409 (I148M) polymorphism is associated with the occurrence and progression of NAFLD. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-related hepatocyte lipoapoptosis contributes to the progress of NAFLD. PNPLA3 is also known as a member of the calcium-independent phospholipase A2ε family, which can hydrolyze fatty acids to generate lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) that induces ER stress-related hepatocyte lipoapoptosis. Whether the PNPLA3 risk genotype 148M/M is involved in more severe ER stress-associated lipoapoptosis is unclear. Methods. A PNPLA3148I knock-in HepG2 cell model was constructed based on HepG2 expressing PNPLA3 148M/M using the Cas9/sgRNA system. PNPLA3 148M/M, I/M, and I/I cells were treated with 0.3 mM palmitic acid (PA) for 24 h to induce lipid deposition. Cellular lipid deposition was detected by oil red staining. Apoptosis was observed by TUNEL. LPC was determined by ELISA, and the expression of PNPLA3, the ER stress marker Bip, molecules involved in the ER stress PERK/elF-2a pathway, and its downstream C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP)-mediated apoptotic pathway were detected by western blot. Results. The results showed no difference in PNPLA3 basal expression and basal hepatocyte lipid content between the three genotypes of cells. Lipid deposition and apoptosis were more severe in PNPLA3 148M/M and 148I/M cells than in I/I cells after PA treatment. PA-induced upregulation of protein expression of Bip, ER stress-responsive PERK pathway molecules p-PERK, p-eIF2α, CHOP, and CHOP-associated apoptotic molecules PUMA and Bax were more pronounced in PNPLA3 148M/M cells than in PNPLA3 148I/I cells. The basal LPC levels and the PA-treated increase of LPC levels in the cell culture supernatants did not differ between the three genotypic cells. Conclusion. PNPLA3 148M/M cells were more susceptible to PA-induced lipid deposition and ER stress-related apoptosis than 148I/I cells, and the proapoptotic susceptibility of PNPLA3 148M/M is independent of LPC. Obesity is known to be one of the severe health issues worldwide, as its prevalence continues to rise as well as its association with other chronic diseases worsens. Even though various approaches have been underway to prevent or treat obesity, alternative approaches are in need to combat this chronic condition because of the unsatisfactory effectiveness and adverse side effects of the existing approaches. Dolichos biflorus L. seeds have been employed as a weight-loss treatment in folk medicine. Considering the necessity to develop a safe alternative remedy to rising obesity, the current investigation has been set up to assess the antiobesity potential and the mode of action of the aqueous seed extract of D. biflorus (ASEDB) in a cell line (3T3-L1) and high-fat diet (HFD)-induced rats. For in-vitro studies, 3T3-L1 cell lines were cultured in Dulbecco's modified Eagle medium (DMEM) augmented with adipogenic-inducing medium and the influence of the extract (10 µg/mL–500 µg/mL) on 3T3-L1 adipocyte viability, adipogenesis, and lipolysis was assessed. An in-vitro study revealed maintenance of cell viability, reduced triglycerides (TG) accumulation, and promoted lipolysis in 3T3-L1 cells by ASEDB. Following in-vitro analysis, the HFD-induced obese rats were treated with ASEDB at different concentrations (100 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg, and 300 mg/kg) for 60 days and the effect was evaluated through various anthropometric and biochemical parameters. The findings revealed a significant decrement in total body weight, organ weights, fat pad weights, and restoration of abnormal levels of glucose, leptin, insulin, lipid markers, and antioxidant system to normal by ASEDB treatment. Also, pancreatic lipase inhibition analysis of ASEDB revealed a modest level of inhibition with an IC50 value of 213.3 µg/mL. All these findings exposed that ASEDB possesses pronounced antiobesity potential and exhibits its protective effect by suppressing food intake, reducing fat digestion and absorption, limiting adipogenesis, enhancing lipolysis, and alleviating oxidative stress. Objective. This study is designed to find out the molecular targets of effective Chinese medicine Ziyin Mingmu pills (ZMPs) in treating age-related macular degeneration (AMD) based on network pharmacology and experimental data. Methods. A comprehensive network pharmacology strategy that consists of three sequential modules (drug-disease target molecular docking, enrichment analysis, and external verification) was carried out to identify potential targets of ZMPs acting on AMD. Results. The active ingredients of ZMPs targeting 66 genes have effects on the process of AMD. GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analyses suggested that response to oxidative stress, regulation of angiogenesis, and lipid and atherosclerosis might serve as the most important signaling pathways in ZMPs for AMD treatment. Combined with the GSE29801 dataset for further analysis, two key genes, EGFR and VEGFA, were identified. Immune infiltration analysis showed that there was a strong association between EGFR and immune cell content. In addition, images were acquired following 24 h in the scratch experiment showed that ZMPs can reduce the percentage of wound healing distance. The Western blot assay found that ZMPs increased the expression of EGFR and decreased the expression of VEGFA. Conclusion. This study sheds light on some mechanisms of ZMP therapy for AMD, particularly the effect of ZMP on the oxidative stress in RPE and cell survival and angiogenesis in AMD. Acid oils (AO) are fat by-products of edible oil refining with a high energetic value, being an interesting option for a more sustainable aquaculture nutrition. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of the partial replacement of fish oil (FO) in diets by two AO instead of crude vegetable oils on the lipid composition, lipid oxidation and quality of fresh European seabass fillets, and after their commercial refrigerated storage for 6 days. Fish were fed with five different diets, the added fat being FO (100%) or a blend of FO (25%) and another fat (75%): crude soybean oil (SO), soybean-sunflower acid oil (SAO), crude olive pomace oil (OPO), or olive pomace acid oil (OPAO). Fresh and refrigerated fillets were assessed for fatty acid profile, tocopherol (T) and tocotrienol (T3) composition, lipid oxidative stability, 2-thiobarbituric acid (TBA) value, volatile compound content, color, and sensory acceptance. Refrigerated storage did not affect T + T3 total content but increased secondary oxidation products (TBA values and volatile compound contents) in fillets from all diets. The FO substitution decreased EPA and DHA and increased T and T3 in fish fillets, but the recommended human daily intake of EPA plus DHA could still be covered with 100 g of fish fillets. Both a higher oxidative stability and a lower TBA value were found in SO, SAO, OPO, or OPAO fillets, obtaining the greatest oxidative stability in OPO and OPAO fillets. Sensory acceptance was not affected by the diet or the refrigerated storage, while the differences found in color parameters would not be perceived by the human eye. According to the oxidative stability and acceptability of flesh, SAO and OPAO are adequate replacements of FO as energy source in European seabass diets, which implies that these by-products can be upcycled, improving the environmental and economical sustainability of aquaculture production. Today, adolescent obesity is recognized as an epidemic and a cause of reproductive disorders. Decreased testosterone levels occur due to functional defects in the hypothalamus-pituitary axis, excessive activity of cytochrome P450 aromatase enzyme, and testicular dysfunction in these people. Oxidative damage, inflammation, and apoptosis are also the main mechanisms of testicular damage during obesity. The use of herbal products such as garlic can improve this disorder due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the effect of pretreatment and treatment of garlic powder on the expression of cytochrome P450 aromatase enzyme and the expression of genes involved in testosterone synthesis, inflammation, oxidative damage, apoptosis in testicular tissue, and metabolic function of liver tissue in young male obese rats. Eighty male Wistar rats were divided into the controlled and treated groups. Serum levels of lipid, glucose, and insulin as metabolic factors were measured along with the testicular antioxidant and inflammation markers. The expression of Bcl2, Bax, and caspase-3 along with NF-κB, SREBP-1c, CPT-1beta, Nrf-2, CD36, FAS, CYP19A1, P450scc, StAR, 17βHSD, PPARα, and aromatase (CYP19, P450arom) was also measured. Testicular histological evaluation and spermatogenic process was also performed. The results showed that oxidative, inflammatory, and metabolic factors significantly increased in obese rats. The testicular expression of aromatase, NF-κB, Bax, and caspase 3 increased and Nrf2 expression decreased in obese rats, while (pre) treatment with garlic powder significantly decreased the expression of these genes in obese rats. These results were also confirmed by the findings of the histological evaluation and sperm analysis. It can be concluded that garlic powder could improve reproductive dysfunction in obese rats. Object. L6 cells were cultured to explore the possible mechanism underlying the improvement of insulin resistance by Liraglutide (LR). Methods. Cells were divided into 5 groups—control, high-fat, 10 nmol/L LR + 0.6 mmol/L palmitic acid (PA) (10LR), 100 nmol/L LR + 0.6 mmol/L PA (100LR), and 1000 nmol/L LR + 0.6 mmol/L PA (1000LR). CCK-8 method to detect cell viability, GPO-PAP enzymatic method to detect intracellular triglyceride content, and reverse transcription quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blotting methods to detect fatty acid translocase CD36 (FAT/CD36) and fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4) in L6 cells, glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78), glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) expression at the mRNA and protein levels, respectively, were performed. Results. We found that after PA intervention for 24 h, the cell viability decreased significantly; the cell viability of the LR group was higher than that of the high-fat group (P < 0.01). After PA intervention, compared with those in the high-fat group, GRP-78, FAT/CD36, FABP4 mRNA ((4.36 ± 0.32 vs. 8.15 ± 0.35); (1.00 ± 0.04 vs. 2.46 ± 0.08); (2.88 ± 0.55 vs. 8.29 ± 0.52), P < 0.01) and protein ((3338.13 ± 333.15 vs. 4963.98 ± 277.29); (1978.85 ± 124.24 vs. 2676.07 ± 100.64); (3372.00 ± 219.84 vs. 6083.20 ± 284.70), both P < 0.01) expression decreased in the LR group. The expression levels of GLUT4 mRNA ((0.75 ± 0.04 vs. 0.34 ± 0.03), P < 0.01) and protein ((3443.71 ± 191.89 vs. 2137.79 ± 118.75), P < 0.01) increased. Conclusion. Therefore, we conclude that LR can reverse PA-induced cell inactivation and lipid deposition, which may be related to the change in GRP-78, FAT/CD36, FABP4, GLUT4, and other factors. Introduction. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic endocrine disorder that requires long-term treatment. In Ethiopian traditional medicine practice, plants have been provided with a vital role in fighting human and animal diseases since ancient times. The aqueous extract of Lonchocarpus laxiflorus (L. laxiflorus) leaves has been consumed for treating diabetes mellitus without confirming its safety and efficacy scientifically. This experiment aimed to evaluate the safety and antidiabetic efficacy of the leaf extract of L. laxiflorus in mice models. Methods. The crude extraction was conducted using a cold maceration technique and 80% methanol solvent. Normoglycemic, oral glucose-loaded, and streptozotocin-induced (STZ) diabetic models were employed. Male Swiss albino mice were randomly grouped into five categories(with six mice per group during normoglycemic, oral glucose-loadingtest as a negative control, positive control, and three treatment groups. In STZ-induced diabetic models, the groups include normal and diabetic negative control, diabetic positive control, and three diabetic treatment groups. The negative control groups received vehicles, the positive control received 5 mg/kg glibenclamide, and the treatment groups received the crude extract at 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg doses, respectively. Results. Up to 2000 mg/kg crude extract, neither signs of toxicity nor death were observed. In normoglycemic mice, there was a significant blood glucose reduction at 200 and 400 mg/kg doses starting from the 2nd h post-administration. The oral glucose load showed a significant antihyperglycemic effect at 200 and 400 mg/kg of the crude extract and glibenclamide. In STZ-induced diabetic models, the 200, 400 mg/kg crude extract, and glibenclamide showed a significant antidiabetic activity and enhancement of a good serum lipid profile. Conclusion. Background. Over the last few years, the importance of leptin in energy metabolism has been extensively studied in both animal models and in humans. Very few results are available on the association between human leptin gene (LEP) variants and obesity traits in India. We designed this study to analyse the polymorphisms in human leptin gene and the association of sequence variants with obesity among the population in Kerala, South India. Methods. In this case-control design of 148 study participants, data were collected on socioeconomic aspects and anthropometric measurements. Plasma glucose, insulin, leptin, and lipid profile were measured. Genotyping was done by automated DNA sequencing. Results. The common Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) of 5′-UTR of LEP − 2548G/A was found to be present in the study population with "A" variant as dominant allele. A novel synonymous mutation Thr5Thr of exon 2 of LEP was identified in heterozygous form in one subject with morbid obesity with hyperleptinemia. A novel missense mutation Phe17Leu was observed in two subjects with obesity in heterozygous condition. A novel missense mutation Lys36Arg in exon 2 of LEP was observed in one subject with abdominal obesity and decreased serum leptin level. Conclusion. LEP − 2548G/A at 5′-untranslated region was found to be common with the mutant "A" variant in the study population. Background. Phlegm-dampness constitution as one of nine constitutions in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been a high risk factor for glucolipid metabolic disorders (GLMD). Based on our previous findings, Hua Tan Qu Shi recipe (HTQSR) could effectively improve metabolic indicators of GLMD by targeting on phlegm-dampness constitution. However, the proteomic mechanisms of GLMD with the treatment of HTQSR targeting on phlegm-dampness constitution remain unknown. Methods. Clinical participants from phlegm-dampness constitution with the prediabetic state (T), phlegm-dampness constitution with marginally elevated blood lipids (Z), and phlegm-dampness constitution before sickness (W) were included in this study, who orally took HTQSR for 12 weeks and, respectively, marked AT, AZ, and AW. Data-independent acquisition (DIA) and parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) were performed to identify the differential proteins; then, Venn analysis was used to investigate coexpressed and coregulated proteins. In addition, ingenuity pathway analysis (IPA) software was utilized to explore the related pathways and diseases and biofunctions. Results. LXR/RXR activation, acute phase response signaling, and production of nitric oxide and reactive oxygen species in macrophages were obviously activated between the T and AT groups, as well as the Z and AZ groups. In contrast, these three pathways were inhibited between the W and AW groups. Importantly, one coexpressed and coregulated differential protein, B2MG, was validated by PRM among all groups. Conclusions. This work firstly reported the underlying proteomic mechanisms of GLMD with the treatment of HTQSR targeting on phlegm-dampness constitution, indicating that intervention of phlegm-dampness constitution might be a novel strategy for the preventive treatment of GLMD. Sheng Mai Yin (SMY) has therapeutic effects on myocardial infarction (MI), heart failure (HF), diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM), and myocarditis. To study whether SMY can relieve pyroptosis and play a protective role in diabetic cardiomyopathy, a molecular docking technique was used to predict the possible mechanism of SMY against DCM. Then, a DCM rat model was induced by intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ), divided into 5 groups: the DM group (model), SMY-L group (2.7 mL/kg SMY), SMY-M group (5.4 mL/kg SMY), SMY-H group (10.8 mL/kg SMY), and Met group (120 mg/kg metformin). Rats in the CTL group (control) and DM group were given normal saline. After 8 weeks, the levels of blood glucose, lipids, and myocardial enzymes were detected according to the kit instructions. Cardiac function was detected by echocardiography. HE and Masson were used to observing the pathological changes, collagen deposition, and collagen volume fraction (CVF). The apoptosis rate of cardiomyocytes was determined by Tunel. The IL-1β level was determined by ELISA and RT-PCR. The expressions of NLRP3, caspase-1, and GSDMD were measured using RT-PCR and Western blotting. The docking results suggested that SMY may act on NLRP3 and its downstream signal pathway. The in vivo results showed that SMY could reduce blood glucose and lipid levels, improve heart function, improve histopathological changes and myocardial enzymes, and alleviate cardiomyocyte apoptosis and myocardial fibrosis. SMY inhibited the mRNA and protein expressions of NLRP3, ASC, Caspase-1, and GSDMD and IL-1β production. Dietary lipid manipulation in the feed of commercially cultured finfish is used not only to improve production and culture but also to enhance their reproductive performances. The inclusion of lipid in broodstock diet positively affects growth, immunological responses, gonadogenesis, and larval survival. In this review, existing literature on the importance of freshwater finfish species to aquaculture and the inclusion of dietary lipid compounds in freshwater fish feed to accelerate the reproduction rate is being summarized and discussed. Although lipid compounds have been confirmed to improve reproductive performance, only a few members of the most economically important species have reaped benefits from quantitative and qualitative lipid studies. There is a knowledge gap on the effective inclusion and utilization of dietary lipids on gonad maturation, fecundity, fertilization, egg morphology, hatching rate, and consequently, larval quality contributing to the survival and good performance of freshwater fish culture. An eight-week feeding trail was carried out to investigate the impacts of different dietary arachidonic acid (ARA) supplementations on growth performance, antioxidant capacity, tissue fatty acid profiles, and lipid metabolism of mud crab (Scylla paramamosain) juvenile. Six isonitrogenous (480 g kg-1 crude protein) and isolipidic (80 g kg-1 crude lipid) diets were formulated to contain 0.40, 2.50, 4.60, 8.90, 12.50, and 15.70 g ARA kg-1 (dry matter), respectively. Each experimental treatment included 24 mud crab juveniles (initial weight 11.29 ± 0.09 g) and was assigned to triplicate groups (n = 3). Crabs fed diets with 2.50, 4.60, and 8.90 g kg-1 ARA presented significantly higher percent weight gain (PWG) and specific growth rate (SGR) than those fed the other diets. Based on two-slope broken-line and quadratic curve regression analysis of PWG against dietary ARA levels, optimal dietary ARA levels were determined to be 5.20 g kg-1 and 6.20 g kg-1, respectively. Crabs fed with 4.60 g kg-1 ARA diet showed the lowest activities of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) as well as aspartate aminotransferase (AST) in hemolymph among all treatments. In hemolymph and hepatopancreas, total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), the activities of total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) as well as the contents of reduced glutathione (GSH) rose first and then dropped with the increase of dietary ARA levels, while the concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA) showed an opposite trend. Tissue fatty acid profiles reflected diets fatty acid compositions. The ARA contents in hepatopancreas and muscle significantly increased with the increase of dietary ARA levels. Furthermore, the areas of blasenzellen (B) cells and restzellen (R) cells were significantly downregulated with the increase of dietary ARA levels. Crabs fed with 0.40 g kg-1 ARA diet showed significantly higher gene expression levels of fatty acid synthase (fas) as well as acetyl-CoA carboxylase (acc) among all treatments. Relative gene expression levels of 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6pgd) as well as glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (g6pd) have been significantly upregulated in 0.40 and 2.50 g kg-1 ARA groups. Relative gene expression level of fatty acid binding protein 1 (fabp1) significantly increased in 4.60, 8.90, 12.50, and 15.70 g kg-1 ARA groups. However, the gene expression levels of fatty acid binding protein 4 (fabp4) as well as scavenger receptor class 2 (srb2) have not been influenced by dietary ARA levels. What is more, crabs fed diets with 4.60, 8.90, 12.50, and 15.70 g kg-1 ARA had a significantly higher expression level of carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 (cpt1) than those fed diets with 0.40 and 2.50 g kg-1 ARA. In summary, optimum dietary ARA can promote growth, enhance antioxidant capacity, and improve health of mud crab juveniles. It also demonstrated that lipogenesis has been restrained with the increasing dietary ARA levels. Tea is one of the most popular beverages in the world. The health-promoting effects of tea and its individual constituents, including antiobesity and antihyperlipidaemia effects, have been well accepted. In this study, we evaluated the effects of herbal tea essence (HTE), a commercial product extracted from black tea, on HFD-induced obesity in mice. HTE effectively reduces the gain in body weight and improves glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity after HFD treatment. HTE inhibits lipid accumulation in the body and reduces serum lipid contents. Furthermore, HTE negatively regulates the expression levels of genes that control lipogenesis and gluconeogenesis and upregulates the expression of genes for lipid β oxidation. The regulatory effects of HTE on these genes may occur through activation of the AKT, IRS-1, and AMPK signalling pathways. A tablet formulation developed from Nawametho decoction (NawaTab), a traditional Thai herbal mixture described in the Worayokasan scripture, has been used clinically for several years in the management of borderline hyperlipidemic individuals. Nevertheless, scientific evidence supporting its claims has never been identified. This study aimed to describe the antihyperlipidemic properties of NawaTab in a well-described model of high-fat diet (HFD)-induced hyperlipidemic rats. Decoction of Nawametho containing equal quantities of Aegle marmelos (L.), Carthamus tinctorius L., Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn., Phyllanthus emblica L., Piper longum L., Piper nigrum L., Terminalia bellirica (Gaertn.) Roxb., Terminalia chebula Retz., and Zingiber officinale Roscoe were prepared. The HFD-fed rats were administered NawaTab for 4 consecutive weeks starting from the ninth week of HFD treatment at a dose of 125 mg/kg (p.o.). Anthropometric parameters, serum lipid profiles, lipase activity, and liver and renal functional markers were measured. Histopathological examination of the liver and any steatosis was carried out at the end of this study. Consecutive treatment with NawaTab (125 mg/kg/day) in HFD-induced hyperlipidemic rats caused a significant reduction in serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. However, at the tested dose, NawaTab failed to prevent the onset of hepatic steatosis and adipose tissue accumulation. No adverse events due to the consumption of NawaTab on liver and kidney function markers were noted. These findings are the first suggestive evidence for the lipid-lowering capability of NawaTab. However, to promote the use of this formulation in the management of borderline hyperlipidemic patients, elucidation of the underlying mechanisms of action, quantification of biological markers, and clinical trials of NawaTab are urgently needed. With the increase in the number of cardiovascular patients in China, this paper must use better detection methods to examine these patients. Blood lipid testing is a quantitative method for the determination of lipids contained in blood (plasma). Blood lipids are the general term for neutral fats (triglycerides and cholesterol) and lipids (phospholipids, glycolipids, sterols, and steroids) in plasma, which are widely present in the human body. At the same time, this paper also applies this technology to different examination procedures at various current stages. Cardiovascular disease, also known as circulatory system disease, is a series of diseases involving the circulatory system. The circulatory system refers to the organs and tissues that transport blood in the human body, mainly including the heart and blood vessels (arteries, veins, and microvessels), which can be subdivided into acute and chronic and are generally related to arteriosclerosis. In recent years, the most widely used is blood lipid measurement. Therefore, this paper proposes a study on the safety evaluation and effect analysis of blood lipid testing in the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease patients. This article focuses on the causes of cardiovascular disease and introduces the purpose, methods, results, and conclusions of blood lipid detection. Combined with the deep learning method combined with wavelet analysis and support vector machine (SVM), the in-depth analysis is carried out, and suitable patients are selected for blood lipid detection. The final experimental results showed that apolipoprotein B (APOB), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglyceride (TG), and other indicators were significantly different from the control group. The values of apolipoprotein A1 (APOA1) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were significantly different from those in the control group, P < 0.05. This shows that blood lipid examination has a good effect on the diagnosis of cardiovascular patients; it can make accurate diagnosis and prediction of the patient's condition and has good clinical application value.
