The article focuses on the treatment in the chronic cases of Hepatitis B. Chronic hepatitis B put the patient at risk for cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The number of patients that die from hepatitis B virus infection in the U.S. is estimated to be 5,000. Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) becomes undetectable in self-limiting acute disease. It is accompanied by the development of antibody to HBsAg. The infection is considered chronic if the patient continues to test positive for HBsAg six months after an acute infection.
