Abstract: International audience; Muon neutrino and antineutrino disappearance probabilities are identical in the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation framework, but CPT violation and non-standard interactions can violate this symmetry. In this work we report the measurements of $\sin^{2} \theta_{23}$ and $\Delta m_{32}^2$ independently for neutrinos and antineutrinos. The aforementioned symmetry violation would manifest as an inconsistency in the neutrino and antineutrino oscillation parameters. The analysis discussed here uses a total of 1.97$\times$10$^{21}$ and 1.63$\times$10$^{21}$ protons on target taken with a neutrino and antineutrino beam respectively, and benefits from improved flux and cross-section models, new near detector samples and more than double the data reducing the overall uncertainty of the result. No significant deviation is observed, consistent with the standard neutrino oscillation picture.

Abstract: The T2K experiment reports updated measurements of neutrino and antineutrino oscillations using both appearance and disappearance channels. This result comes from an exposure of $14.9~(16.4) \times 10^{20}$ protons on target in neutrino (antineutrino) mode. Significant improvements have been made to the neutrino interaction model and far detector reconstruction. An extensive set of simulated data studies have also been performed to quantify the effect interaction model uncertainties have on the T2K oscillation parameter sensitivity. T2K performs multiple oscillation analyses that present both frequentist and Bayesian intervals for the PMNS parameters. For fits including a constraint on \ssqthonethree from reactor data and assuming normal mass ordering T2K measures $\sin^2\theta_{23} = 0.53^{+0.03}_{-0.04}$ and $\Delta{}m^2_{32} = (2.45 \pm 0.07) \times 10^{-3}$ eV$^{2}$c$^{-4}$. The Bayesian analyses show a weak preference for normal mass ordering (89% posterior probability) and the upper $\sin^2\theta_{23}$ octant (80% posterior probability), with a uniform prior probability assumed in both cases. The T2K data exclude CP conservation in neutrino oscillations at the $2\sigma$ level., Comment: Update figure formatting

The measured cross sections on water, hydrocarbon, and iron are σ H2O CC = (0.840±0.010(stat.) +0.10 −0.08(syst.))×10−38 cm2/nucleon, σCH CC = (0.817±0.007(stat.) +0.11 −0.08(syst.))× 10−38 cm2/nucleon, and σFe CC = (0.859 ± 0.003(stat.) +0.12 −0.10(syst.)) × 10−38 cm2/nucleon, respectively, for a restricted phase space of induced muons: θμ < 45◦ and pμ >0.4 GeV/c in the laboratory frame. The measured cross section ratios are σ H2O CC /σ CH CC = 1.028 ± 0.016(stat.) ± 0.053(syst.), σFe CC/σ H2O CC = 1.023 ± 0.012(stat.) ± 0.058(syst.), and σFe CC/σ CH CC = 1.049 ± 0.010(stat.) ± 0.043(syst.). These results, with an unprecedented precision for the measurements of neutrino cross sections on water in the studied energy region, show good agreement with the current neutrino interaction models used in the T2K oscillation analyses.

It is, however, an important process to understand because it is a background for electron (anti)neutrino appearance oscillation experiments. Here, we performed the first search of this process below 1 GeV using the finegrained detector at the T2K ND280 off-axis near detector. By reconstructing single photon kinematics from electron–positron pairs, we achieved 95% pure gamma ray sample from 5.738 ´ 1020 protons-on-targets neutrino mode data. We do not find positive evidence of NC induced single photon production in this sample. We set the model-dependent upper limit on the cross-section for this process, at 0.114 ´ 10-38 cm2 (90% C.L.) per nucleon, using the J-PARC off-axis neutrino beam with an average energy of ⟨En⟩ ~ 0.6 GeV. This is the first limit on this process below 1GeV which is important for current and future oscillation experiments looking for electron neutrino appearance oscillation signals.

Abstract: Results on $\phi $ meson production in inelastic $p + p$ collisions at CERN SPS energies are presented. They are derived from data collected by the NA61/SHINE fixed target experiment, by means of invariant mass spectra fits in the $\phi \rightarrow K^+ K^- $ decay channel. They include the first ever measured double differential spectra of $\phi $ mesons as a function of rapidity $y$ and transverse momentum $p_{\text {T}}$ for proton beam momenta of $80 \, \hbox {GeV}/c$ and $158 \, \hbox {GeV}/c$, as well as single differential spectra of $y$ or $p_{\text {T}}$ for beam momentum of $40 \, \hbox {GeV}/c$. The corresponding total $\phi $ yields per inelastic $p + p$ event are obtained. These results are compared with existing data on $\phi $ meson production in $p + p$ collisions. The comparison shows consistency but superior accuracy of the present measurements. The emission of $\phi $ mesons in $p + p$ reactions is confronted with that occurring in $\mathrm{Pb} + \mathrm{Pb}$ collisions, and the experimental results are compared with model predictions. It appears that none of the considered models can properly describe all the experimental observations. Abstract: This paper reports the first differential measurement of the charged-current $\overline{\nu}_{\mu}$ interaction cross section on water with no pions in the final state. The unfolded flux-averaged measurement using the T2K off-axis near detector is given in double differential bins of $\mu^+$ momentum and angle. The integrated cross section in a restricted phase space is $\sigma=\left(1.11\pm0.18\right)\times10^{-38}$ cm$^{2}$ per water molecule. Abstract: International audience; This paper presents measurements of production cross sections and inelastic cross sections for the following reactions: 60 GeV/c protons with C, Be, Al targets and 120 GeV/c protons with C and Be targets. The analysis is performed using the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. First measurements are obtained using protons at 120 GeV/c, while the results for protons at 60 GeV/c are compared with previously published measurements. These interaction cross section measurements are critical inputs for neutrino flux prediction in current and future accelerator-based long-baseline neutrino experiments.

NA61/SHINE, a large-acceptance hadron spectrometer, has recorded hadron+nucleus interactions relevant to ongoing and future long-baseline neutrino experiments at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. This paper presents three analyses of interactions of 60 GeV/$c$ $\pi^+$ with thin, fixed carbon and beryllium targets. Integrated production and inelastic cross sections were measured for both of these reactions. In an analysis of strange, neutral hadron production, differential production multiplicities of $K^0_S$, $\Lambda$ and $\overline{\Lambda}$ were measured. Lastly, in an analysis of charged hadron production, differential production multiplicities of $\pi^+$, $\pi^-$, $K^+$, $K^-$ and protons were measured. These measurements will enable long-baseline neutrino experiments to better constrain predictions of their neutrino flux in order to achieve better precision on their neutrino cross section and oscillation measurements. Abstract: The T2K experiment reports an updated analysis of neutrino and antineutrino oscillations in appearance and disappearance channels. A sample of electron neutrino candidates at Super-Kamiokande in which a pion decay has been tagged is added to the four single-ring samples used in previous T2K oscillation analyses. Through combined analyses of these five samples, simultaneous measurements of four oscillation parameters, $|\Delta m^2_{32}|$, $\sin^2(\theta_{23})$, $\sin^2(\theta_{13})$, and $\delta_{CP}$ and of the mass ordering are made. A set of studies of simulated data indicates that the sensitivity to the oscillation parameters is not limited by neutrino interaction model uncertainty. Multiple oscillation analyses are performed, and frequentist and Bayesian intervals are presented for combinations of the oscillation parameters with and without the inclusion of reactor constraints on $\sin^2(\theta_{13})$. When combined with reactor measurements, the hypothesis of CP conservation ($\delta_{CP}$$=0$ or $\pi$) is excluded at 90% confidence level. The 90% confidence region for $\delta_{CP}$ is [-2.95,-0.44] ([-1.47, -1.27]) for normal (inverted) ordering. The central values and 68\% confidence intervals for the other oscillation parameters for normal (inverted) ordering are $\Delta m^{2}_{32}=2.54\pm0.08$ ($2.51\pm0.08$) $\times 10^{-3}$ eV$^2 / c^4$ and $\sin^2(\theta_{23}) = 0.55^{+0.05}_{-0.09}$ ($0.55^{+0.05}_{-0.08}$), compatible with maximal mixing. In the Bayesian analysis, the data weakly prefer normal ordering (Bayes factor 3.7) and the upper octant for $\sin^2(\theta_{23})$ (Bayes factor 2.4)., Comment: 50 pages, 50 figures

Abstract: This paper presents several measurements of total production cross sections and total inelastic cross sections for the following reactions: $\pi^{+}$+C, $\pi^{+}$+Al, $K^{+}$+C, $K^{+}$+Al at 60 GeV/c, $\pi^{+}$+C and $\pi^{+}$+Al at 31 GeV/c . The measurements were made using the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS. Comparisons with previous measurements are given and good agreement is seen. These interaction cross sections measurements are a key ingredient for neutrino flux prediction from the reinteractions of secondary hadrons in current and future accelerator-based long-baseline neutrino experiments.

Abstract: The single $\pi^0$ production rate in neutral current neutrino interactions on water in a neutrino beam with a peak neutrino energy of 0.6 GeV has been measured using the P{\O}D, one of the subdetectors of the T2K near detector. The production rate was measured for data taking periods when the P{\O}D contained water ($2.64\times{}10^{20}$ protons-on-target) and also periods without water ($3.49 \times 10^{20}$ protons-on-target). A measurement of the neutral current single $\pi^0$ production rate on water is made using appropriate subtraction of the production rate with water in from the rate with water out of the target region. The subtraction analysis yields 106 $\pm$ 41 (stat.) $\pm$ 69 (sys.) signal events, which is consistent with the prediction of 157 events from the nominal simulation. The measured to expected ratio is 0.68 $\pm$ 0.26 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.44 (sys.) $\pm$ 0.12 (flux). The nominal simulation uses a flux integrated cross section of $7.63\times{}10^{-39}$ cm${}^2$ per nucleon with an average neutrino interaction energy of 1.3 GeV., Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures

Abstract: We report the first measurement of the flux-averaged cross section for charged current coherent $\pi^{+}$ production on carbon for neutrino energies less than 1.5 GeV to a restricted final state phase space region in the T2K near detector, ND280. Comparisons are made with predictions from the Rein-Sehgal coherent production model and the model by Alvarez-Ruso {\it et al.}, the latter representing the first implementation of an instance of the new class of microscopic coherent models in a neutrino interaction Monte Carlo event generator. This results contradicts the null results reported by K2K and SciBooNE in a similar neutrino energy region. Abstract: We report the measurement of muon neutrino charged-current interactions on carbon without pions in the final state at the T2K beam energy using 5.734$\times10^{20}$ protons on target. For the first time the measurement is reported as a flux-integrated, double-differential cross-section in muon kinematic variables ($\cos\theta_\mu$, $p_\mu$), without correcting for events where a pion is produced and then absorbed by final state interactions. Two analyses are performed with different selections, background evaluations and cross-section extraction methods to demonstrate the robustness of the results against biases due to model-dependent assumptions. The measurements compare favorably with recent models which include nucleon-nucleon correlations but, given the present precision, the measurement does not solve the degeneracy between different models. The data also agree with Monte Carlo simulations which use effective parameters that are tuned to external data to describe the nuclear effects. The total cross-section in the full phase space is $\sigma = (0.417 \pm 0.047 \text{(syst)} \pm 0.005 \text{(stat)})\times 10^{-38} \text{cm}^2$ $\text{nucleon}^{-1}$ and the cross-section integrated in the region of phase space with largest efficiency and best signal-over-background ratio ($\cos\theta_\mu>0.6$ and $p_\mu > 200$ MeV) is $\sigma = (0.202 \pm 0.0359 \text{(syst)} \pm 0.0026 \text{(stat)}) \times 10^{-38} \text{cm}^2$ $\text{nucleon}^{-1}$., Comment: 44 pages, 17 figures. Abstract: We report a measurement of cross section $\sigma(\nu_{\mu}+{\rm nucleus}\rightarrow\mu^{-}+X)$ and the first measurements of the cross section $\sigma(\bar{\nu}_{\mu}+{\rm nucleus}\rightarrow\mu^{+}+X)$ and their ratio $R(\frac{\sigma(\bar \nu)}{\sigma(\nu)})$ at (anti-)neutrino energies below 1.5 GeV. We determine the single momentum bin cross section measurements, averaged over the T2K $\bar{\nu}/\nu$-flux, for the detector target material (mainly Carbon, Oxygen, Hydrogen and Copper) with phase space restricted laboratory frame kinematics of $\theta_{\mu}$500 MeV/c. The results are $\sigma(\bar{\nu})=\left( 0.900\pm0.029{\rm (stat.)}\pm0.088{\rm (syst.)}\right)\times10^{-39}$ and $\sigma(\nu)=\left( 2.41\ \pm0.022{\rm{(stat.)}}\pm0.231{\rm (syst.)}\ \right)\times10^{-39}$ in units of cm$^{2}$/nucleon and $R\left(\frac{\sigma(\bar{\nu})}{\sigma(\nu)}\right)= 0.373\pm0.012{\rm (stat.)}\pm0.015{\rm (syst.)}$., Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures

Abstract: We present measurements of $\rho^0$, $\omega$ and K$^{*0}$ spectra in $\pi^{-} + $C production interactions at 158 GeV/c and $\rho^0$ spectra at 350 GeV/c using the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS. Spectra are presented as a function of the Feynman's variable $x_\text{F}$ in the range $0 < x_\text{F} < 1$ and $0 < x_\text{F} < 0.5$ for 158 GeV/c and 350 GeV/c respectively. Furthermore, we show comparisons with previous measurements and predictions of several hadronic interaction models. These measurements are essential for a better understanding of hadronic shower development and for improving the modeling of cosmic ray air showers., Comment: submitted to Eur. Phys. J. C

Abstract: International audience; We report measurements by the T2K experiment of the parameters θ23 and Δm322 governing the disappearance of muon neutrinos and antineutrinos in the three-flavor neutrino oscillation model. Utilizing the ability of the experiment to run with either a mainly neutrino or a mainly antineutrino beam, the parameters are measured separately for neutrinos and antineutrinos. Using 7.482×1020 POT in neutrino running mode and 7.471×1020 POT in antineutrino mode, T2K obtained sin2(θ23)=0.51-0.07+0.08 and Δm322=2.53-0.13+0.15×10-3 eV2/c4 for neutrinos, and sin2(θ¯23)=0.42-0.07+0.25 and Δm¯232=2.55-0.27+0.33×10-3 eV2/c4 for antineutrinos (assuming normal mass ordering). No significant differences between the values of the parameters describing the disappearance of muon neutrinos and antineutrinos were observed.

Abstract: Measurements of inclusive spectra and mean multiplicities of $\pi ^\pm $ , K$^\pm $ , p and ${\bar{\text {p}}}$ produced in inelastic p + p interactions at incident projectile momenta of 20, 31, 40, 80 and 158 $\text{ GeV }/c$ ( $\sqrt{s} = $ 6.3, 7.7, 8.8, 12.3 and 17.3 $\text{ GeV }$ , respectively) were performed at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron using the large acceptance NA61/SHINE hadron spectrometer. Spectra are presented as function of rapidity and transverse momentum and are compared to predictions of current models. The measurements serve as the baseline in the NA61/SHINE study of the properties of the onset of deconfinement and search for the critical point of strongly interacting matter. Abstract: In order to measure neutrino oscillation parameters, long-baseline accelerator neutrino experiments are using MC simulations to determine initial neutrino flux. Uncertainties of the hadron production models limit the knowledge of the neutrino flux. Additional hadron production measurements are needed to reduce this uncertainty. The only experiment currently capable of providing such measurements is the NA61/SHINE experiment. I present recently published NA61/SHINE hadron production measurements for the T2K experiment which include spectra of hadrons $(π^{±}, K^{±}, p, K^0_s and Λ)$ in the proton-carbon interaction at 31 GeV/c and $π^{±}$ spectra exiting the surface of the T2K replica target.

Abstract: Electron antineutrino appearance is measured by the T2K experiment in an accelerator-produced antineutrino beam, using additional neutrino beam operation to constrain parameters of the Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (PMNS) mixing matrix. T2K observes 15 candidate electron antineutrino events with a background expectation of 9.3 events. Including information from the kinematic distribution of observed events, the hypothesis of no electron antineutrino appearance is disfavored with a significance of 2.40 σ and no discrepancy between data and PMNS predictions is found. A complementary analysis that introduces an additional free parameter which allows non-PMNS values of electron neutrino and antineutrino appearance also finds no discrepancy between data and PMNS predictions., Physical Review Letters, 124 (16), ISSN:0031-9007, ISSN:1079-7114
