Abstract: International audience; The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to the domain of physical/logical objects connected to the Internet that can be accessible anywhere and anytime, giving the access policies. Web objects and services can be seen as distributed and cooperative agents that need to collaborate in order to reach advanced functionalities and also to optimize the overall quality offered to the end users. However, the number of the services that can be supplied through these devices on the Internet will increase more and more. In this context, performing the composition and selection of the best services according to quality-of-service (QoS) criteria become a complex task, especially when dealing with global service selection to satisfy global constraints of users in decentralized environments. For this purpose, we propose a distributed and optimal QoS selection approach based on the multiagent paradigm and the distributed constraint optimization problem (DCOP) formalism. Hence, we revisited a DCOP technique for developing an efficient algorithm: the DPOP4QoS implemented under a real-time Web protocol for IoT communication, the extensible messaging and presence protocol. The proposed algorithm takes into account the specificities of the service composition context and the satisfaction of the global user constraints. This paper also presents a set of experiments conducted under realistic distributed environment to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract: International audience; With the attractive features of service oriented architecture (SOA), such as the high re-usability, the fast development and the reduced cost, many large scale distributed applications are currently delivered within cloud data centers following the SOA style (namely service-oriented applications). A service-oriented application is composed of a set of reusable services, each of which may be used concurrently by multiple applications. A key challenge in this context is how to guarantee an efficient execution of these applications to quickly and effectively respond to the ever-increasing incoming requests. Service replication has been touted as an efficient technique that supports the non-functional requirement of services, specified in Service- Level-Agreement (SLA) between cloud service providers and consumers, such as availability, reliability and response time, through providing multiple replicas of a given service. Several service replication strategies for cloud computing context were proposed in the literature. The major shortcoming of these attempts is their neglect of service dependencies. In view of this, we propose a Dependency aware Dynamic Service Replication Strategy called DDSoR. The main goal of the proposed strategy is to minimize execution time of distributed service oriented applications by clustering dependent services and replicating them in the same server. The service replica cluster placement problem is taken as a three dimensional multiple knapsack problem. © 2017 IEEE.

Abstract: International audience; In the services world, the expected benefits are the fastest time to market, lower costs, greater consistency in the application, and increased agility. The reuse and sharing properties of software components are useful to address these challenges. However, to achieve this, it is necessary to be able to observe each service and to control the service composition. This article proposes to rethink the company's organisational process of application development and use the power of monitoring to help the application design. The proposed Monitoring as-a-service (MaaS), whose properties are detailed, will be used for the computation of the offered Quality of Service (QoS), for the services calibration during the service creation phase and to inform the QoS Controller during the operational phase. For effective design, the architect will place MaaS at crucial points of its architecture according to its decision-making process. Finally, we present experimental results and a conclusion ends the paper.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper we address the impact of the security cost in terms of energy consumption, processing time, and traffic load on quality of services (QoS) in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Offering security services (authentication, confidentiality, and integrity) and QoS (throughput, delay, and reliability) guarantee in WSNs is still challenging issue. The security and QoS are opposite parameters, and then security services must be dynamically and optimally adapted to QoS and network constraints (e.g. energy efficiency). Therefore, designing such solution that optimizes multiple conflicting objectives is computationally intractable. We propose a new solution based on multi-objective optimization using genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) for security, QoS, and energy efficiency in WSNs. Resource constraints as well as QoS requirements are respected through use of optimal security level based on evolutionary strategy. The obtained simulation results illustrate that the energy efficiency and the security level optimization is reached with different set of optimal security settings adapted to the QoS and the energy requirements.

Abstract: International audience; Web service technologies become popular in software development in all sectors. Even service related standards are defined, they still have limitations to represent the services. Some examples of the limitations are : service registry does not support the QoS properties, web service description language (WSDL) does not allow specifying the QoS properties and there is no common description for defining the web service structure. Our research aims to enhance the service description structure to support the service selection and composition processin order to reduce development costs. The existing resources are analyzed in order to define a Web Service Ontology (WSOnto). Furthermore, a service selection algorithm is proposed for validating the proposed WSOnto. This service selection algorithm considers multiple criteria as inputs : application context, input, output, weight of the QoS performance and service’s security properties. Furthermore, a QoS calculation method is proposed to obtain a better QoS values.

Abstract: International audience; Apart from its tremendous enhanced transfer performances, the LTE/EPC mobile network is intended to distinguish itself from previous mobile technologies as an all-IP system. Nevertheless, far from usual IP QoS management policies, its QoS model inherits many characteristics of circuit oriented model of legacy standards. Additional signalling procedures are required in order to establish an end-to-end dedicated bearer for each desired QoS level. A major issue of this QoS model is the management load related to contexts and bearers established by each user equipment. This paper proposes an analytical model to evaluate the impact of this standard QoS model in terms of Context Load, Processing Load and Memory Access Rate in various LTE/EPC network elements. Simulation results are then presented to evaluate the impact of different realistic scenarios of QoS deployment.

Abstract: International audience; Today, the Cloud networking aspect is a critical factor for adopting the Cloud computing approach. The main drawback of Cloud networking consists in the lack of Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee and management in conformance with a corresponding Service Level Agreement (SLA). This paper presents a framework for resource allocation according to an end-to-end SLA established between a Cloud Service User (CSU) and several Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) in a Cloud networking environment. We focus on QoS parameters for Network as a Service (NaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) services. In addition, we propose algorithms for the best CSPs selection to allocate Virtual Machines (VMs) and network resources in inter-cloud broker and federation scenarios. Our objective is to minimize the cost while satisfying NaaS and IaaS QoS constraints. Moreover, we simulate our proposed Cloud networking architecture to provide videoconferencing and intensive computing applications with QoS guarantee. We observe that the broker architecture is the most interesting while ensuring QoS requirements.

Abstract: International audience; An important challenge to be addressed in the domain of Internet of Things (IoT) is the development of efficient services selection algorithms for an optimal management of both energy and Quality of Service (QoS) in the context of IoT services composition. This issue becomes crucial in the case of large-scale IoT environments composed of thousands of distributed entities. In this paper, an energy-centered and QoS-aware services selection algorithm (EQSA) is proposed for IoT services composition. The proposed selection approach consists of preselecting the services offering the QoS level required for user's satisfaction using a lexicographic optimization strategy and QoS constraints relaxation technique. In order to reduce the energy consumption of a composite service without affecting the user's satisfaction, the most suitable services among the preselected ones are then selected using the concept of relative dominance of services in the sense of Pareto. The relative dominance of a candidate service depends on its energy profile and QoS attributes, and user's preferences. The proposed algorithm has been evaluated through several simulation scenarios. The obtained results show clearly the good performances of the EQSA algorithm in terms of selection time, energy efficiency, composition lifetime, and optimality and its added value in comparison with algorithms dealing separately with QoS and energy consumption.

Abstract: International audience; Reusing existing services for developing business process applications helps reducing the development time and cost. Besides, existing atomic services may not be able to answer users' requirements. Therefore, as manual composition takes time and is error prone, automatic service composition methods are needed. Their objective is to find the best composite service with minimum number of services and the best performance in term of Quality of Service (QoS). In this paper, a complex network based service composition framework is proposed. It is based on a network representation of the Web service space, making it possible to exploit efficiently various centrality properties and its community structure. It applies the A* search algorithm by considering different network centralities (degree, betweenness, closeness) together with various static and dynamic QoS attributes (execution time, availability and number of calls, changing values of QoS over different timestamps) in its heuristic. Furthermore, the network community structure is integrated in the process, in order to reduce the execution time and increase the accuracy of composition.

Abstract: Recently, as shown by different studies, the video traffic dominates the current traffic composition of the Internet. Nowadays, the video traffic represents more than 65% of global traffic and in the Internet forecasts, it will reach 79% in 2018 in both wired and wireless environments. Hence, major content providers such as Netflix, Youtube, Hulu, and Vudu are leveraging HTTP-based multimedia transmission with adaptative streaming with different solution in order to guarantee a quality of service (QoS). Moreover, in 2012, a new standard called Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) which enables adaptation of the media bitrate to varying throughput conditions by offering multiple representations of the same content is proposed. In this paper, we present a fairness architecture, called DASH-DMS, in combination with the new Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) standard, in order to guarantee a certain QoS under changing conditions in the available bandwidth. DASH-DMS is a hybrid architecture which combines both 2-tiers and 3-tiers architectures. Moreover, we present a replication algorithm to enable load balancing video servers and improve the global QoS. Simulations conducted along this paper show that our proposition significantly outperforms existing and state-of-the-art approaches.

Abstract: International audience; —Video traffic, which represents an increasing fraction of the Internet traffic, requires end-to-end quality of service (QoS) guarantees for inter-domain routing. However, providing such guarantees remains a challenge essentially because it requires a strong and fair cooperation among the different network operators or Autonomous Systems (ASes), crossed by the traffic. Having a single AS on the path that does not meet its QoS engagement is sufficient to violate the end-to-end QoS guarantees. Unfortunately, the client is not capable of distinguishing unfair ASes from honest ones at the time it selects its path. Reputation mechanisms turn out to be very efficient tools to estimate how trustworthy and reliable entities can be without requiring the help of any central authority. They are effective to foster cooperation by remedying selfishness. In this position paper, we identify the main properties a reputation mechanism should meet to improve inter-domain QoS routing, and we provide a coarsed-grain vision of the design of such a mechanism.

Abstract: International audience; LTE/EPC is an all-IP mobile system which provides higher data rates and lower latency. Nevertheless guaranteeing the QoS is a real challenge since the LTE/EPC QoS model inherits many characteristics of circuit oriented legacy standards. Contrary to usual QoS models of the fixed internet (IP networks), additional signalling procedures are required in order to establish a dedicated bearer for each desired QoS level. This paper introduces an analytical model to evaluate the impact of such a QoS model in terms of Processing Load. Simulation results are then presented to evaluate the impact of different scenarios of QoS deployment.

Abstract: LNCS n°9228; International audience; The growing number of services in the Web providing the same functionality but different QoS (e.g., price, execution time, and availability) and transactional properties (e.g., compensable or not) has lead to the emergence of several approaches for service selection and recommendation. Some of these approaches use collaborative filtering, QoS prediction, service reputation, among others. Existing works lack from a way to integrate all those methods and benefit from their multiple perspectives to decide how to select a service. The problem tackled in this work is the selection of the most suitable service from a set of functionally equivalent services according to the opinions of multiple contributors. We propose a framework to easily rely on crowdsourcing for service selection, where crowdsourcing contributors can be independently developed services or human experts. Our framework emphasizes on the definition of a collaborative system to allow contributors to join and participate in the selection of services.

Abstract: International audience; An important problem in Web services composition process is optimal selection of services meeting the user functional requirements (tasks of a workflow) and ensuring a reliable execution of the composition. Therefore, non-functional properties of services such as their transactional behavior as well as their Quality of Service (QoS) must be considered. In this context, a challenging objective is to assist users in integrating on the fly the operations of services to realize their required tasks by further meeting their transactional and QoS preferences. Towards this purpose, we present SPLTQSSS, a Software Product Line based approach for Stateful (conversation-based) Service Selection problem with Transactional and QoS support. SPL-TQSSS considers the set of functionally-equivalent services as part of a service family by modeling their internal operations using Feature Models. Then, SPL-TQSSS chooses the best services, from the service families matching with every task of the workflow, which fit with the user transactional preference and satisfy QoS constraints.

Abstract: Service Oriented Architecture allows developing complex business applications from existing services. Given that many services are available with the same functionality and with different Quality of Service (QoS) attributes, one common challenge is to select the best service combination regarding user's requirements. Existing solutions often consider static QoS values for candidate services. Nevertheless, in real world applications, QoS values can change during time. In addition, besides structural constraints, several QoS and temporal constraints can also be specified at the business level. Considering time-dependent QoS values associated with business level constraints makes the selection process a very complex and time consuming decision problem given the large number of service combinations to be compared. To deal with this issue, in this paper, the authors propose a novel service selection approach based on QoS and temporal pruning techniques to reduce the number of candidate services. The proposed approach allows pruning uninteresting services based on a set of local thresholds. These latter are measured using constraint optimization models while dealing with general flow structures including sequential, parallel, choice and loop patterns and different types of QoS and temporal constraints. Experimental studies show the benefits of the proposed approach in particular in terms of computational time.

Abstract: International audience; Cloud Computing based Software as a Service (SaaS) combines multiple Web Services in order to satisfy a SaaS request. SaaS is based on Service Oriented Architectures and Web Service technology which are popular paradigm to design new generation of applications. These functionalities are published on the Internet, but exploiting rigorously a large data stream in order to use Web Services is a complicated and laborious taskwhich may involve error prone. In this paper we investigate the problem of SaaS Web Service Composition. We present a new technique That translatesthe problem of minimum SaaS Web Services composition into MaxSAT problem. We extend this encoding to take int account the QoS by proposing a weighted MaxSAT version.

Abstract: LNCS n°8954; International audience; One of the major goals of the Service Oriented Architecture is to support automatic Web Service (WS) composition and execution, allowing a user query to be satisfied by a Composite WS (CWS). User queries express functional and non-functional (QoS) requirements. QoS requirements indicate, for example, the maximum execution time or price allowed for a CWS execution. In this work, we propose a model to support CWS executions while maintaining the QoS requirements, even in presence of failures. QoS monitoring is performed during the entire execution of a CWS in order to satisfy QoS requirements, influencing the choice of the fault-tolerance strategy selection in case of failures.

Abstract: International audience; Value added services like VoIP, videoconferencing and IPTV need end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees in order to work correctly. As the Internet is a collection of Autonomous Systems (AS), most of the time the communication endpoints belong to different ASes, so that all the ASes traversed by the communication must cooperate in order to offer end-to-end guarantees. Yet each AS is usually unwilling to disclose any detail about its internal network. To address this confidentiality issue we propose a system where each AS publishes a list of offers, specifying the QoS guarantees between its entry and exit points, without specifying anything else about its internal network. As proposed in several works, it is also possible for ASes to form alliances, which can be seen as "macro ASes" that publish the available offers between the entry and exit points of the alliance. In this paper we present ACQA, an algorithm that can find end-to-end paths satisfying given QoS constraints by combining the offers of several alliances and/or ASes.

Abstract: International audience; By allowing service calls to be guarded by contexts, Asymmetric Event Structures (AES for short) and contextual nets are a convenient framework to model composite Web services or service orchestrations. We equip AES with QoS domains as a framework to capture a number of QoS metrics and their combination. We use the resulting model to formalize QoS-based late service binding in composite services. When subject to QoS-based late service binding, composite services may be non-monotonic with respect to QoS, meaning that strictly improving the QoS of a service may strictly decrease the end-to-end QoS of the composite service, an embarrassing feature for QoS-aware management; we study this issue. Branching cells of AES play a central role in this study.

Abstract: Dynamic selection of the best services to execute abstract tasks of business processes is very important. Indeed, it enables to cope with complex user's requirements that require the collaboration of several more elementary services. However, with the increasing amount of candidate services of each business task that offer different QoS (Quality of Service) values, the selection of the optimal combination of services becomes a very hard task. This problem is more complex when dealing with temporal properties of business processes associated with time-dependent QoS parameters that can change according to the execution time. Unlike static QoS which have been deeply studied in the existing service selection approaches, time-dependent QoS are insufficiently taken into consideration. In this paper, we are interested in the problem of service selection to satisfy a given business process while considering temporal properties associated to time-dependent QoS. The selection approach that we propose relies on a new service pruning approach that is applied prior to our selection algorithm to reduce the number of candidate services while guaranteeing that the optimal solution still be found.

Abstract: International audience; In advanced service-oriented computing, complex applications are usually specified as abstract business processes. The execution of these applications requires the selection of a set of services to invoke abstract business tasks. With the growing number of alternative services of each business task that differ in their QoS, the selection of the best combination of services that satisfies business process constraints and end-to-end users' requirements becomes a complex decision problem. Current selection approaches consider only static QoS and ignore the fact that QoS values can depend on temporal properties. In this paper, we propose a novel service selection approach considering time-dependent QoS attributes. The proposed approach introduces two search space reduction mechanisms that combine QoS and temporal constraints. The application of these mechanisms improves the performance of the selection process which is demonstrated by experimental results.

Abstract: International audience; The quality assessment of multimedia services as perceived by the end-user is a challenging task. In a controlled environment, it is easy to measure the user's Quality of Experience (QoE) against the influence of controlled network parameters. However, in an uncontrolled environment, it is difficult to measure the Quality of Service (QoS) perceived by end-users, due to the unpredictable behaviour of networks. Crowd-sourcing is an emerging technique that can be employed to measure the QoE at the end user, but in an uncontrolled environment. In this paper, we present a tool implementing a crowd-sourcing framework, that measures the QoE of online video streaming, as perceived by end-users. The tool also measures important QoS network parameters in real-time (packet loss, delay, jitter and throughput), retrieves system information (memory, processing power etc.), and other properties of the end-user's system. The proposed approach provides the opportunity to explore the user's quality perception in a wider domain.

Abstract: International audience; In multimedia services, user's perceived quality of service is very important as compared to other end-to-end network factors. With the growth of emerging technologies, it becomes necessary for network service providers (both in the wired and wireless domains) to consider all aspects of network elements, not only to offer a better Quality of Service (QoS) but also to achieve higher end-users satisfaction. The analysis of users' profile provides vital information, which can help service providers in managing their resources efficiently, by analyzing users' behavior and expectation. In this paper, we setup a testbed to investigate the various factors that contribute to the Quality of Experience (QoE), in the context of video streaming delivery over wireless and wired networks. The comprehensive study of users profile provides significant insights on all metrics that influence the QoE (network parameters and video characteristics). Wireless and wired networks have different infrastructure aspects (reliability, availability etc.) but the analysis and evaluations of users' profile are equally important for both networks. Our analytical study gives an opportunity for network service providers to obtain high user satisfaction by providing a service level that matches customers' usage patterns and expectations.

Abstract: International audience; An intermittently connected mobile ad hoc hybrid network (ICHN) is one of the challenging networks induced by the proliferation of handheld devices equipped with wireless interfaces. It is formed by a number of fixed infostations, hosting service providers, and some mobile devices, hosting service clients, organised in an ad hoc network facing frequent connectivity disruptions. This paper focuses on two novels protocols that form the basis of a service provisioning platform specifically designed for ICHN. It details a service discovery protocol and a service invocation protocol that implement in particular an opportunistic routing based on a time-aware heuristic. Performance evaluation shows that the specialization of TAO is able to guarantee good performance with limited overhead.

Abstract: International audience; The third-generation partnership project 3GPP and 3GPP2 have standardized the IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) to provide ubiquitous and access network-independent IP-based services for next-generation networks via merging cellular networks and the Internet. The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) seems to be the technology that will prevail in Next Generation Networks (NGNs). The users wish to communicate through collections of networks using different protocols; rendering service mapping from one network to another with the similar QoS is a complex issue thereby. The heterogeneous networks are collections of communication platforms using different protocols. This heterogeneity implies the need to offer many different services on the market within short time. In this paper we propose a heterogeneous network model based on the IMS that provides guaranteed QoS. Our method presents, in the first, an informational solution. Decisional information is added to the HSS basis to enrich the knowledge base, which is expressed under the form of "profile of QoS R", where the new information informs directly the decisions to be taken according to the user’s profile (preferences QoS and pricing, bandwidth, location ...). In the second, a solution for multi provider’s context which can allow a subscriber to register with one or more operator(s) according to QoS offered. Thirdly, a mechanism which can be deployed in heterogeneous networks to preserve the original QoS values of the user session and thus eliminate the cumulative effect of QoS rounding across the entire communication path. And it is feasible via the “Interworking QoS Management Sub-network” while adding the new interworking management components, namely: SICs, DIC, QPA AS and HSS-PQoSr.

Abstract: International audience; Service-oriented pervasive systems, composed of a large number of devices with heterogeneous capabilities where devices' resources are abstracted as software services, challenge the creation of high-quality composite applications. Resource heterogeneity, dynamic network connectivity, and a large number of highly distributed service providers complicate the process of creating applications with specific QoS requirements. Existing approaches to service composition control the QoS of an application solely by changing the set of participating concrete services which is not suitable for ad-hoc service-based systems characterized by high intermittent connectivity and resource heterogeneity. In this paper, we propose a flexible way of formulating composition configurations suitable for such service-based systems. Our formulation proposes the combined consideration of the following factors that affect the QoS of a composed service: (a) service selection, (b) orchestration partitioning, and (c) orchestrator node selection. We show that the proposed formulation enables the definition of service composition configurations with 49% lower response time, 28% lower network latency, 36% lower energy consumption, and 13% higher success ratio compared to those defined with the traditional approach.

Abstract: International audience; A Service Level Agreement (SLA) is a contract between a customer and a Network Service Provider (NSP) defining services to one or more destinations at a given Quality of Service (QoS). Once committed, the SLA can be violated without the customer being able to predict that. We focus on offer selection mechanisms according to QoS and taking into account past SLAs' violations. We propose an algorithm, using a minimizing-regret technique, which provides an estimation of the reliability of given NSPs to the customer. Our approach only requires an end-to-end monitoring tool for used paths and depends on the customer's history.

Abstract: Part 5: Session 5: Miscellaneous; International audience; In such a competitive world, quality assurance can make the difference between a successful business and bankruptcy. For Internet services, the presence of low performance servers, high latency or overall poor service quality can translate into lost sales, user frustration and customers lost. In this paper, we propose a novel method for QoS metrification based on Hidden Markov Models. The techniques we show can be used to measure and predict the behavior of Web Services under several criteria, and can thus be used to rank services quantitatively rather than just qualitatively. We demonstrate the feasibility and usefulness of our methodology by drawing experiments on real world data. Our results have shown how our proposed methods can help the user to automatically select the best available Web Service based on several metrics, among them system predictability and response times variability.

Abstract: Next generation wireless networks will provide seamless high bandwidth connectivity with high quality of service (QoS) support to mobile users, where a mobile will be able to connect to several wireless access networks simultaneously. In this environment, heterogeneity of networks and heterogeneity of applications are presented as challenging problems, where an efficient architecture is needed to integrate different technologies. In addition, deciding the serving network is essential to avoid resource wastage and provide QoS for users. In this paper, we propose new integration architecture based on a virtual operator that rents or invests resources from a physical operator, and sells services to customers. The virtual operator will monitor the networkâ€™s conditions and QoS parameters, and then provide the user requesting access with useful information to decide the serving network. In this context, we modify four well-known decision mechanisms (load balance, minimum distance, minimum price and minimum delay) by adding the QoS as a hard constraint. We also propose a new decision mechanism, where we consider new decision criteria that improves the overall system performance. Simulation results show that the new proposed mechanism outperforms the modified mechanisms, where the blocking probability is clearly reduced and a good level of QoS is provided to real-time applications or high-priority users.

Abstract: International audience; Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are becoming increasingly popular and user demand for high-quality rich media services is continuously growing. Despite the fact that WMNs offer significant flexibility, they suffer in respect to Quality of Service (QoS) provisioning. This paper proposes a novel mechanism for providing enhanced QoS support to video services in multi-hop WMNs. The mechanism makes use of an innovative hybrid hierarchical architecture which combines centralized and distributed approaches. The proposed solution relies on performance monitoring at WMN nodes, performs load balancing by off-loading traffic from the highest loaded nodes to less loaded neighbours. Simulation based results presented outline the performance of our proposed mechanism in terms of QoS metrics (delay, throughput, packet losses and PSNR) in different network load scenarios. The results clearly demonstrate how our proposed mechanism outperforms the traditional OLSR protocol in terms of QoS performance.

Abstract: International audience; Service consumers satisfaction is considered today as one of the main concern to be ensured by service providers, especially with the spread of concurrency and the increase of functionally equivalent services. This satisfaction is closely related to quality of service (QoS) perceived by service consumers. In this context, we propose an approach to determine the satisfaction degree corresponding to the QoS of service-based applications, with regard to service consumers' QoS expectations. Our approach is based on a preference model, which is built only on the basis of service consumer's provided information. This preference model is also based on the 2-additive Choquet operator that takes into account preferential dependencies. In this paper, we target both design time and runtime aggregation of QoS of service-based applications.

Abstract: In this article, a mobile cloud service model is presented, in which it offers a dynamic and efficient remote access to information services and resources for mobile devices. Mobile cloud computing has been evolved as a distributed service model, where individual mobile users are cloud service providers. Compared to traditional Internet-centric cloud service models, the complexity of mobile service management in a dynamic and distributed service environment is increased dramatically. To address this challenge, we propose to establish an OSGi-based mobile cloud service model ? MCC-OSGi ? that uses OSGi Bundles as the basic mobile cloud service building components. The proposed solution supports OSGi bundles running on both mobile devices and cloud-side virtual machine OS platforms, and the bundles can be transferred and run on different platforms without compatibility issues. The presented solution is achieved: 1) by incorporating OSGi into Android software development platform, 2) by setting up a Remote-OSGi on the cloud and on mobile devices, and 3) by defining three service architecture models. The presented solution is validated through a demonstrative application with relevant performance measurements.

Abstract: International audience; New integrated wireless and mobile networks are emerging to offer a wide range of services through heterogeneous networks anywhere at any time. The promotion towards these networks requires a user-centric approach which could enable users to control their terminal behavior in an efficient way. Each mobile terminal equipped with heterogeneous interfaces can access different network technologies and perform the corresponding services. In this paper, we consider a network selection strategy based on the estimated Signal to Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (SINR) value in an integrated heterogeneous network. Based on the Markov model, we describe the state of the heterogeneous system at any time, taking into account the quality of service (QoS) requirements of all users communicating in the heterogeneous networks. Then we analyze the system performance in terms of the blocking probabilities and connection quality of calls. Moreover, resource blocks allocation for services with different QoS requirements is also analyzed in this paper.

Abstract: The LTE/DVB convergence to offer users a seamless Mobile TV service is at the heart of the emerging DVB-NGH standard. Most of the works addressing this issue focused solely on the impact of such convergence in terms of capacity gains brought by LTE and coverage gains brought by DVB. To the best of our knowledge, the impact of such convergence on the Mobile TV users' QoS has not been addressed yet and is the focus of our present work. Abstract: International audience; Client satisfaction is considered today as one of the main concern to be ensured by enterprises, especially in e-business, where client position is central. With the spread of concurrency and the increase of functionally equivalent services, QoS became an important criterion, which is closely related to client satisfaction. In this context, we propose an approach to determine the satisfaction degree corresponding to the QoS of service-based applications, with regard to client's QoS expectations. Our approach is based on a preferences model, which is built only on the basis of client provided information. This preferences model is also based on the 2-additive Choquet operator that supports preferential dependencies. We present a study that compares the results obtained from our preferences model with those of related work, and shows that our approach provides more accurate results in the way that it represents more precisely client satisfaction.

However, typical QoS parameters do not reflect the subjective 'performance' perceived by the end-users of the service, commonly called the Quality of Experience (QoE) of the service. In this paper, we describe a novel approach for using the QoE as a criterion for WS selection, including an analysis of the different influence factors affecting the perceived quality and a methodology for measuring QoE and establishing a correlation model between QoS/QoE. Furthermore, some real experiments with a set of end-users have been performed and interesting results illustrated.

Abstract: International audience; Today, the IPTV technology is emerging as a new concept for delivering and accessing audiovisual services over IP networks. To allow the transmission of IPTV services on wired and wireless networks, different issues should be overcome regarding scalability, quality of service (QoS) provisioning, security guaranty and terminals heterogeneity. In the IPTV architecture, QoS and security constitute two needs that have to be tightly managed. In this paper, we propose a complete end-to-end architecture for providing IPTV services. This architecture enables managing end-to-end QoS and security, while addressing other issues like the terminal heterogeneity. At first, we describe the architecture which is composed of two segments: the core network and the access network. Then, we detail the different mechanisms which allow managing simultaneously QoS and security for the IPTV streams delivered to heterogeneous mobile terminals. Performances evaluation demonstrates the importance of the joint management of security and QoS.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper, we propose an analytical framework for monitoring and analyzing QoS of publish/subscribe systems on MANET. Our framework copes with intermittent connectivity frequently occurring in MANET and provides statistical methods allowing detecting QoS degradations affecting links between brokers at the middleware layer. Besides, our analytical framework identifies QoS degradation source which enables to repair the system. The proposed framework is extensively evaluated with simulation experiments. Simulations results show its efficiency.

Abstract: International audience; Quality of Experience (QoE) provides human centric assessment of multimedia quality. QoE of a multimedia service is affected by various application and network layer QoS parameters; content and business parameters. In this paper, we propose a new QoE framework for Multimedia services (named as QoM) for run time quality evaluation of video streaming services based on the influence of QoE factors, various network and application level QoS parameters. The newly proposed QoM framework monitors QoS and QoE data, evaluates it and moreover, in the event of decline in QoE, it can also send alert messages to the Administrator based on some policy rules. Our new QoM framework is being launched as an open-source QoE evaluation tool for the industry and research community. More realistic experimental work is also underway and we intend to conduct user tests to evaluate the performance of the proposed QoM framework in a context of real 4G WiMax wireless networks.

Abstract: Quality of service (QoS) has been considered as a significant criterion for selecting among functionally similar Web services. Recent approaches focus on computing the skyline over a set of QoS attributes. This can completely free users from assigning weights to QoS attributes. However, these approaches are not sufficient in a dynamic Web service environment where the delivered QoS by a Web service is inherently uncertain. In this paper, we tackle the problem of skyline on uncertain QoS. We represent each QoS attribute of a Web service using a possibility distribution and introduce two skyline extensions on uncertain QoS called pos-dominant skyline and nec-dominant skyline. We then develop appropriate algorithms to efficiently compute both the pos-dominant skyline and nec-dominant skyline. Finally, we present our experimental results that show both the effectiveness of the introduced skyline extensions and the efficiency of the proposed algorithms.

Abstract: International audience; The appearance of new emerging multimedia services have created new challenges for cloud service providers, which have to react quickly to end-users experience and offer a better Quality of Service (QoS). Cloud service providers should use such an intelligent system that can classify, analyze, and adapt to the collected information in an efficient way to satisfy end-users' experience. This paper investigates how different factors contributing the Quality of Experience (QoE), in the context of video streaming delivery over cloud networks. Important parameters which influence the QoE are: network parameters, characteristics of videos, terminal characteristics and types of users' profiles. We describe different methods that are often used to collect QoE datasets in the form of a Mean Opinion Score (MOS). Machine Learning (ML) methods are then used to classify a preliminary QoE dataset collected using these methods. We evaluate six classifiers and determine the most suitable one for the task of QoS/QoE correlation.

Abstract: International audience; Cloud computing has evolved from the provisioning of virtual machines to the provisioning of complex services, delivered to customers under the terms of Service-Level Agreements (SLAs). SLAs specify the Quality of Service (QoS) that should be provided to customers as well as the billing model. A main concern for cloud service providers is to maintain the agreed SLA terms in order to avoid losses and penalties. Maintaining the SLA in turn requires translating the QoS to configurations of low-level mechanisms, able to enforce the agreed terms. Current systems provide no integrated support for SLA specification, translation, and enforcement. In this paper, we propose an approach for specifying and enforcing SLAs for cloud service providers. The approach covers the creation of SLA templates under a billing model, the design of performance and fault-tolerance QoS assurance mechanisms as well as the translation of QoS to appropriate configurations of those mechanisms. We demonstrate the feasibility of our approach by using the Qu4DS framework for PaaS cloud providers. Moreover, we evaluate the impact of failures on the provider profit. The experiments were carried out on the Grid5000 testbed and demonstrate the effectiveness of ensuring fault tolerance in different scenarios.

Service consumers choose services that satisfy the best the desired QoS levels of their service orchestrations. Therefore, service con- sumers need to know how much the service orchestrations satisfy their QoS expectations. In this paper, we present an approach based on workﬂow aggregation rules and Choquet Integral to measure the satisfaction degree of the service orchestration. The approach provides easy interpretation of QoS levels of service orchestrations. For this purpose, we present an accurate model of service consumer preferences taking into account preferential dependencies between QoS attributes.

Abstract: International audience; Services Oriented Architectures have provided flexibility and agility for service consumers to build their business processes. An important issue concerning the service orchestrations supporting business processes is the Quality of Service (QoS). Service consumers put more and more importance to the QoS of their service orchestrations to be more competitive. Therefore, they need to know how much the service orchestrations fit their QoS expectations in order to measure their satisfaction. In this context, we propose an approach to evaluate the satisfaction degree of service orchestrations according to the service consumers expectations from QoS point of view. This approach is based on Workflow patterns aggregation rules and on the application of a Multi- Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) method. It helps service consumers to interpret the Quality of Service of their service orchestrations and to make a decision whenever they are no longer satisfied.

Abstract: The deployment of services requires a significant investment from service providers, in order to maximize their Return On Investment. To create and launch new services offerings rapidly and successfully, they must deploy their services in the adequate hosting environment. We propose in this paper "a Deployment of Service Elements based on QoS" to meet the Service Level Agreement (SLA) from he deployment phase. To do this, a QoS and service models are necessary to automate the mapping between the design and operation. A "Usage Profile" is defined for this deployment.

Abstract: The Quality of Service (QoS) support of multimedia services over wireless Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) is one of the hottest challenges facing todays research community working on this area. Most existing works on QoS in ad hoc networks has been carried out under the assumption that the underlying QoS architecture is reservation based. In such architecture, mobile nodes maintain per-flow state information. This results in a processing and storage overhead on mobile nodes. On the other hand, the stateless approach has the advantage it offers the scalability, since no session state information is maintained at intermediate nodes. In this paper, we present a hybrid QoS stateless model for service differentiation, named HybQoS. HybQoS model makes resource reservation in advance before the flow uses it, unlike other models that make the resource exclusively reserved for the flow and no additional traffic is allowed to use the reserved resource. HybQoS uses minimal information available on the network nodes without relying on complex mechanisms. The use of HybQoS mechanisms proved to be efficient, robust, and scalable. The extensive simulations conducted under ns-2 have shown that real-time traffic experiences low delays under various mobility, traffic, and multihop conditions.

Abstract: 32 pages; International audience; Based on the IP technology, the next generation networks (NGN) must overcome the main drawbacks of this technology consisting in the lack of quality of service (QoS), security and mobility management. To ensure a service offer in an NGN environment, a protocol for negotiating a service level can be used. However, most of the existing negotiation protocols allow the establishment of a service level which includes only QoS. As for security and mobility, they were often not covered by these negotiations, and therefore managed independently. However, securing a service can cause degradation of the QoS, and the mobility of a user can change the service needs in terms of QoS and security. Thus, we need to simultaneously manage QoS and security while taking into account user's mobility. In this context, we propose an end-to-end NGN architecture with several autonomous domains, where each domain is under the authority of an autonomic domain manager. We provide those autonomic managers with a negotiation capability to achieve an agreement between the different domains involved in the transport of various offered services. This agreement may cover different aspects such as QoS, security and takes into account the user profile. The negotiation process will be based on SLNP (Service Level Negotiation Protocol) which uses Web Services technologies in order to enable interoperability between the managers of the different autonomous domains involved in the service transport.

Abstract: International audience; Enforcing SLAs (Service Level Agreements) for services deployed on large-scale distributed infrastructures, such as grids and clouds, is complex owing to fluctuating customer demand and unpredictable resource availability. Current systems either address specific application domains or fail to provide a complete QoS assurance solution. This work proposes a generic framework to assist service providers in enforcing quality properties in distributed environments. The framework provides a rich set of QoS management functions, including negotiation, translation, and resource provisioning. Importantly, the framework supports dynamic adaptation; that is, it automatically modifies service behavior and resource usage in order to maintain agreed service levels while satisfying service provider-specific constraints. We have implemented an initial prototype in a grid environment and demonstrated its effectiveness in minimizing SLA violations.
