Abstract: A search for the lightest neutral CP-even and the neutral CP-odd Higgs bosons of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model is performed using 233.2 pb-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the L3 detector at LEP at centre-of-mass energies 192-202 GeV. No signal is observed and lower mass limits are given as a function of tan(beta) for two scalar top mixing hypotheses. For tan(beta) greater than 0.8, they are mh > 83.4 GeV and mA > 83.8 GeV at 95 % confidence level. Results on the total cross sections sigma(e+e- -> e+e- hadrons) and sigma(+e- gamma* gamma* -> e+e- hadrons) are given for the two-photon centre-of-mass energies 5 GeV < Wgammagamma < 185 GeV. The total cross section of two real photons is described by a Regge parametrisation. We observe a steeper rise with the two-photon centre-of-mass energy as compared to the hadron-hadron and the photon-proton cross sections. The data are also compared to the expectations of different theoretical models. Abstract: Open charm production in gamma-gamma collisions is studied with data collected at e+e- centre-of-mass energies from 189 GeV to 202 GeV corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 410 pb-1. The charm cross section sigma(gamma gamma ---> c c~ X) is measured for the first time as a function of the two-photon centre-of-mass energy in the interval from 5 GeV to 70 GeV and is compared to NLO QCD calculations. Abstract: The three different helicity states of W± bosons, produced in the reaction e+e−→W+W−→ℓνqq̄ are studied using leptonic and hadronic W decays at √s = 183 GeV and 189 GeV. The W polarisation is also measured as a function of the scattering angle between the W- and the direction of the e- beam. The analysis demonstrates that W bosons are produced with all three helicities, the longitudinal and the two transverse states. Combining the results from the two center-of-mass energies and with leptonic and hadronic W decays, the fraction of longitudinally polarised W± bosons is measured to be 0.261 ± 0.051 (stat.) ± 0.016 (syst.) in agreement with the expectation from the Standard Model., Facultad de Ciencias Exactas

Abstract: We report on measurements of the inclusive production rate of $\Sigma^+$ and $\Sigma^0$ baryons in hadronic Z decays collected with the L3 detector at LEP. The $\Sigma^+$ baryons are detected through the decay $\Sigma^+ \rightarrow {\rm p} \pi^0$, while the $\Sigma^0$ baryons are detected via the decay mode $\Sigma^0 \rightarrow \Lambda \gamma$. The average numbers of $\Sigma^+$ and $\Sigma^0$ per hadronic Z decay are measured to be: \begin{eqnarray*} \left< N_{\Sigma^+} \right> + \left< N_{\bar{\Sigma}^+} \right> & = & 0.114 \pm 0.011_{\mbox{\it \small stat}} \pm 0.009_{\mbox{\it \small syst}} \\ \left< N_{\Sigma^0} \right> + \left< N_{\bar{\Sigma}^0} \right> & = & 0.095 \pm 0.015_{\mbox{\it \small stat}} \pm 0.013_{\mbox{\it \small syst}} \ \mbox{.} \end{eqnarray*} These rates are found to be higher than the predictions from Monte Carlo hadronization models and analytical parameterizations of strange baryon production. Abstract: Media temporalities of the elderly : evolutions in stability This article shows the context of analysis and the first results of a research on media temporalities of the elderly. Several works have finely analysed the diversity of the media practices and studied meanings of media uses. I wish to continue these analyses by insisting on the evolutionary and dynamic aspect of the practices and temporalities of users having expanded, enhanced, so called "interactive" radio and especially television programming. A priori, the elderly, upon retirement, have a "full-time free time". Their media practices seem strongly influenced by their first experiments ; the appropriation of the various peripheral accessories which gradually came with the media, to the latest digital ones, seems to reinforce their habits of watching television. Their representations and relations with times and media are very far away from the image of television like omnipresent media or "devourer of time". Rather, their media practices are to be understood like a temporality of the occupation, according to the expression of Gerard Derèze, characterized by interest and utility. A particular glance at the users who do not carry out a systematic selection of the programs, accepting the unforeseen, highlights an approach of media and time that allow "useful encounter" which I would qualify in a first stage by : "chance and encounter" and "random and the following". The few points presented here make me assume that the global relation of the autonomous elderly persons to the media can evolve when confronted to their new temporal framework and the new program offer, whereas their representations and use of the media remain quite stable.
