Abstract

International audience; The AGATA collaboration has a long-standing leadership in the development of front-end electronics for high resolution $\gamma $-ray spectroscopy using large volume high purity germanium detectors. For two decades, the AGATA collaboration has been developing state-of-the-art digital electronics processing with high resolution sampling ADC, high-speed signal transfer and fast readout to a high throughput computing (HTC) farm for on-line pulse shape analysis. The collaboration is presently addressing the next challenge of equipping a 4$\pi $ array with more than 6000 channels in high resolution mode, generating approximately 10 MHz of total trigger requests, coupled to a large variety of complementary instruments. A next generation of front-end electronics, presently under design, is based on industrial products (System on Module FPGA’s), has higher integration and lower power consumption. In this contribution, the conceptual design of the new electronics is presented. The results of the very first tests of the pre-production electronics are presented as well as future perspectives.

NEDA has been designed to be a versatile device, with high-detection efficiency, excellent neutron-gamma discrimination, and high rate capabilities. It will be employed in physics campaigns in order to maximise the scientific output, making use of the different stable and radioactive ion beams available in Europe. the first implementation of the neutron detector array NEDA with AGATA 1 pi was realised at GANIL. Abstract

International audience; A new $\beta$-decaying state in $^{214}$Bi has been identified at the ISOLDE Decay Station at the CERN-ISOLDE facility. A preferred $I^{\pi} = (8^-)$ assignment was suggested for this state based on the β-decay feeding pattern to levels in $^{214}$Po and shell-model calculations. The half-life of the $I^{\pi} = (8^-)$ state was deduced to be $T_{1/2} = 9.39(10)$ min. The deexcitation of the levels populated in $^{214}$Po by the $\beta$ decay of this state was investigated via $\gamma - \gamma$ coincidences and a number of new levels and transitions was identified. Shell-model calculations for excited states in $^{214}$Bi and $^{214}$Po were performed using two different effective interactions: the H208 and the modified Kuo-Herling particle interaction. Both calculations agree on the interpretation of the new β-decaying state as an $I^{\pi} = 8^-$ isomer and allow for tentative assignment of shell-model states to several high-spin states in $^{214}$Po.

Abstract

The ISOLDE Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source (RILIS) provided isomer-selective ionization for $^{133}In$, allowing us to study separately, and in detail, the β-decay branch of $^{133}In$ J$^{\pi}$=(9/2$^+$) ground state and its J$^{\pi}$=(1/2$^−$) isomer. Thanks to the large spin difference of the two β-decaying states of $^{133}In$, it is possible to investigate separately the lower and higher spin states in the daughter, $^{133}Sn$, and thus to probe independently different single-particle and single-hole levels. We report here new $\gamma$ transitions observed in the decay of $^{133}In$, including those assigned to the deexcitation of the neutron-unbound states.

Abstract

The structure of Si34 was studied through γ spectroscopy separately in the β− decays of Mg34 and Al34 at the ISOLDE facility of CERN. Different configurations in Si34 were populated independently from the two recently identified β-decaying states in Al34 having spin-parity assignments Jπ=4− dominated by the normal configuration π(d5/2)−1⊗ν(f7/2) and Jπ=1+ by the intruder configuration π(d5/2)−1⊗ν(d3/2)−1(f7/2)2. The paper reports on spectroscopic properties of Si34 such as an extended level scheme, spin and parity assignments based on log(ft) values and γ-ray branching ratios, absolute β feeding intensities, and neutron emission probabilities. A total of 11 newly identified levels and 26 transitions were added to the previously known level scheme of Si34. Large scale shell-model calculations using the SDPF-U-MIX interaction, able to treat higher order intruder configurations, are compared with the new results and conclusions are drawn concerning the predictive power of SDPF-U-MIX, the N=20 shell gap, the level of mixing between normal and intruder configurations for the 01+, 02+, and 21+ states, and the absence of triaxial deformation in Si34. Abstract

The $^{12}\text{C}(\alpha,\gamma){}^{16}\text{O}$ reaction plays a central role in astrophysics, but its cross section at energies relevant for astrophysical applications is only poorly constrained by laboratory data. The reduced $\alpha$ width, $\gamma_{11}$, of the bound $1^-$ level in $^{16}$O is particularly important to determine the cross section. The magnitude of $\gamma_{11}$ is determined via sub-Coulomb $\alpha$-transfer reactions or the $\beta$-delayed $\alpha$ decay of $^{16}$N, but the latter approach is presently hampered by the lack of sufficiently precise data on the $\beta$-decay branching ratios. Here we report improved branching ratios for the bound $1^-$ level [$b_{\beta,11} = (5.02\pm 0.10)\times 10^{-2}$] and for $\beta$-delayed $\alpha$ emission [$b_{\beta\alpha} = (1.59\pm 0.06)\times 10^{-5}$]. Our value for $b_{\beta\alpha}$ is 33% larger than previously held, leading to a substantial increase in $\gamma_{11}$. Our revised value for $\gamma_{11}$ is in good agreement with the value obtained in $\alpha$-transfer studies and the weighted average of the two gives a robust and precise determination of $\gamma_{11}$, which provides significantly improved constraints on the $^{12}$C$(\alpha,\gamma)$ cross section in the energy range relevant to hydrostatic He burning., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

International audience; An Advanced GAmma-ray Tracking Array, AGATA, is proposed for high-resolution γ-ray spectroscopy with exotic beams. AGATA will employ highly segmented Ge detectors as well as fully digital electronics and relies on newly developed pulse-shape analysis and tracking methods. The array is being designed in a way that it provides optimal properties for nuclear structure experiments in a wide range of beam velocities (from stopped to v/c ≈ 50%), almost independent of beam quality and background conditions. Selectivity and sensitivity of AGATA will be superior to any existing γ-array by several orders of magnitude. Hence, it will be for a long time a rich source for nuclear structure physics providing the means for new discoveries and opening challenging new perspectives. This document is the initial proposal sent to the European Commission to obtain the necessary funds for the project.
