Abstract: International audience; Ransomware remains an alarming threat in the 21 st century. It has evolved from being a simple scare tactic into a complex malware capable of evasion. Formerly, end-users were targeted via mass infection campaigns. Nevertheless, in recent years, the attackers have focused on targeted attacks since the latter are profitable and can induce severe damage. A vast number of detection mechanisms have been proposed in the literature. We provide a systematic review of ransomware countermeasures starting from its deployment on the victim machine until the ransom payment via cryptocurrency. We define four stages of this malware attack: Delivery, Deployment, Destruction, and Dealing. Then, we assign the corresponding countermeasures for each phase of the attack and cluster them by the techniques used. Finally, we propose a roadmap for researchers to fill the gaps found in the literature in ransomware's battle. CCS Concepts: • Security and privacy → Malware and its mitigation

Abstract: International audience; With the rapid emerging of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and the proliferation of cloud-based applications, the cloud computing industry is becoming a vital element for ensuring our daily services. However, cloud computing uses large scale data centers equipped with energy-hungry servers and huge power facilities that massively consume power. This presents a real challenge which can negatively influence the power grid, while exposing the environment to global warming issues. Therefore, minimizing cloud data center power consumption is a challenging problem and has to be addressed. In this paper, we look at renewable energy in the context of a smart grid–cloud architecture and investigate the issue of grid power dispatching to cloud data centers. Since cloud data centers have a non-cooperative nature regarding power demand from the power stations, we model our power allocation problem as a non-cooperative game. Afterwards, we prove the existence and the uniqueness of Nash equilibrium. Moreover, we formulate the payoff function of our game as a non-linear optimization problem before resolving it using Lagrange multipliers and Karush–Kuhn–Tucker (KKT) conditions. Thus, we determine the assigned optimal quantity to each data center based on three main criteria : renewable energy usage, number of critical running applications and workload charge. Extensive simulations are performed by comparing our scheme with an existing work. Results show that our scheme outperforms the comparing approach with a percentage of 31.2% in terms of power load rate and significantly reduces emissions of carbon dioxide.

Abstract: International audience; The widespread popularity of Internet of things (IoT) enables a huge amount of fine-grained thermal comfort and, implicitly, energy efficiency data to be assembled. Meanwhile, the movement toward a human-centric approach in the domain of smart homes has constantly been advancing worldwide. How to collect, prepare, store and employ the huge amount of data collected by the IoT devices to promote and enhance the thermal comfort inside buildings while preserving energy constraints is an important issue. To date, different IoT applications have been introduced in the thermal comfort domain. To provide a thorough overview of the prevailing research and to identify challenges for the upcoming research, this paper conducts a review on the IoT thermal comfort applications and thermal comfort analytics in buildings. Following the three stages of analytics: descriptive, predictive and prescriptive, we propose the basic application areas as thermal comfort analysis, thermal comfort prediction and thermal environment control. We also review the novel techniques endorsed by each application. In addition, we discuss some research trends associated with the topic like machine learning techniques, data privacy and security and federated learning.

Abstract: International audience; The enabling technology of vehicular networks for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), smart cities and autonomous driving, offers promising on-board services such as road-safety, easy navigation, comfort driving and infotainment. These services can co-exist simultaneously in the system. One challenging issue is to provide the different quality of service (QoS) requirements adequate to each service. This may not be an easy task because of the constrained factors characterizing these networks (e.g., growing number of connected vehicular devices, wireless communications, etc.). In this paper, we investigate the radio resources allocation problem to match different QoS requirements in terms of data rate whilst reducing the interference ratio. We first proposed a radio allocation model that aims to maximize the data rate and minimize the transmission power for all users. However, since not all vehicles use services that require high data rates, it will be more efficient to consider different required data rate for each user. Hence, we develop an efficient model for transmission power allocation that aims to reduce the interference ratio while providing the data rate required by each user. The proposed model is based on Generalized Nash Equilibrium (GNE) game where the users compete to acquire the radio resources. We proposed also two water-filling algorithms to solve the spectrum allocation game during Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication over multiple channels. The extensive simulations have shown that our model can satisfy the users regarding different.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to estimate the incidence of COVID-19 disease in the French national population of dialysis patients, their course of illness and to identify the risk factors associated with mortality. Our study included all patients on dialysis recorded in the French REIN Registry in April 2020. Clinical characteristics at last follow-up and the evolution of COVID-19 illness severity over time were recorded for diagnosed cases (either suspicious clinical symptoms, characteristic signs on the chest scan or a positive reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) for SARS-CoV-2. A total of 1,621 infected patients were reported on the REIN registry from March 16th, 2020 to May 4th, 2020. Of these, 344 died. The prevalence of COVID-19 patients varied from less than 1% to 10% between regions. The probability of being a case was higher in males, patients with diabetes, those in need of assistance for transfer or treated at a self-care unit. Dialysis at home was associated with a lower probability of being infected as was being a smoker, a former smoker, having an active malignancy, or peripheral vascular disease. Mortality in diagnosed cases (21%) was associated with the same causes as in the general population. Higher age, hypoalbuminemia and the presence of an ischemic heart disease were statistically independently associated with a higher risk of death. Being treated at a selfcare unit was associated with a lower risk. Thus, our study showed a relatively low frequency of COVID-19 among dialysis patients contrary to what might have been assumed., Graphical abstract

Abstract: Part 2: Information Flow and Access Control; International audience; NFV is an important innovation in networking. It has many advantages such as saving investment cost, optimizing resource consumption, improving operational efficiency and simplifying network service lifecycle management. NFV environments introduce new security challenges and issues since new types of threats and vulnerabilities are inevitably introduced (e.g. security policy and regular compliance failure, vulnerabilities in VNF softwares, malicious insiders, etc.). The impact of these threats can be mitigated by enforcing security policies over deployed network services. In this paper, we introduce an access control as a service model for NFV services. The proposed approach can deploy several kinds of access control model policies (e.g. RBAC, ORBAC, ABAC, etc.) for NFV services and can be easily scaled.

Abstract: International audience; La détection précoce d'actions vise à déterminer au plus tôt la classe d'une action, si elle a lieu, dans un flot non segmenté et en utilisant le moins d'observations possibles. Cette tâche est d'autant plus complexe qu'elle doit considérer à la fois des contraintes de détection, de reconnaissance et celles de précocité. De ce fait, et en dépit de son intérêt pratique certain, cette problématique est rarement abordée dans la littérature. Dans ce papier, nous proposons une approche combinant trois modèles basés sur le concept de segmentation curviligne. Ces modèles permettent de traiter le flot d'entrée à court, moyen et long terme de façon à réduire à la fois le risque d'erreur et la latence. De plus, le fait que ces modèles soient basés sur la notion de segmentation curviligne permet de s'affranchir de difficultés inhérentes à la détection, notamment la variabilité des vitesses de performance. En outre, l'approche proposée est adaptée au cas de la reconnaissance d'actions pré-segmentées afin de permettre une comparaison aux meilleures approches de la littérature, notamment celles à base d'apprentissage profond. Les résultats que nous présentons dans le cadre de la détection précoce et celui de la reconnaissance sont prometteurs vis-à-vis de ce sujet de recherche encore en émergence.

Abstract: International audience; Nowadays, Demand Side Management (DSM) in the Smart Grids (SG) opens new perspectives on the management of the prosumers’ demands. The use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) empowers SG with the capability of supporting two-way energy and information flows, facilitating the integration of renewable energy into the grid and empowering the consumer with tools for optimizing energy consumption and costs. Many researches have highlighted on the active role of consumers in the DSM. However, they limited their role to either negotiating with the providers about the unit energy price, or trading their surplus of energy, if any, with other prosumers or providers. In this paper, we introduce a hierarchical system model where multiple providers and prosumers interact to define the best price and demands. We highlight the capacity of a prosumer to produce energy and minimize the dependency on the providers in the overall proposed energy management. The latter will be able to maximize his satisfaction by trading energy, first, with other prosumers with a suitable price, and by interacting with the providers, if any remaining energy needed, in a distributed way. Hence, we optimize the price and demands while considering multiple constraints and different providers and prosumers by establishing a Stackelberg game to model two types of interactions: (1) prosumer-prosumer and (2) provider-consumer. We prove that a unique equilibrium solution exists and simulation results show that our proposed approach optimizes energy consumption and price.

Abstract: Multi-pass equal channel angular extrusion (ECAE) process of polypropylene was investigated at room temperature using a 90° die-angle tooling outfitted with a back-pressure. The process was repeated until eight times using two different extrusion orientation routes: route A where the sample orientation is kept constant between each extrusion and route C where the sample is rotated by 180°. The crystalline textures were examined by WAXS measurements and the changes on the mechanical response were observed by full-field strain measurements during tensile tests. The use of a back-pressure turns the deformation behavior, along the flow direction of the ECAE products, from highly heterogeneous (characterized by a peculiar periodic shear-banding behavior) to roughly homogeneous and leads to completely different plastic processes in the crystalline phase. The textural differences subsequent to the multi-pass processing and the use of a back-pressure are the source of significant differences in tensile response along the flow direction. The observations show that the polypropylene processed via route C reaches more easily a saturation state than that obtained via route A with a strong beneficial influence of a back-pressure.

Abstract: The proliferation of cloud-based applications in smart systems has made the cloud data center a vital and critical part for ensuring a connected world. Due to their energy-hungry servers and huge power facilities, cloud data centers tend to consume a lot of power. In fact, the data centers use about 1.4% of all the power generated on the planet. On one hand, this has a negative impact on the power grid and may cause blackouts. On the other hand, it has a negative impact on the environment and it is mainly involved in global warming. Thus, one of the most important challenges in cloud data centers is power consumption minimization. In this paper, we propose a microgrid-cloud based architecture and study the grid power dispatching problem to cloud data centers. At first, we model the power quantity demand between the data centers and smart microgrids as a non-cooperative game, due to their non-cooperative power demands behavior. Then, we try to allocate the optimal quantity of power to each data center according to its green power consumption, network bandwidth usage and its network equipment power usage. Second, we formulate the game payoff function as a non-linear optimization problem and solve it using Lagrange multipliers and KarushKuhnTucker (KKT) conditions. Finally, we compare the performance of our approach with two power allocation algorithms and showed that our game is more effective and reduces power load with a rate of 40.5%. Furthermore, our scheme incites data centers to use green energy and significantly reduces dioxide carbon emission.

Abstract: International audience; This paper presents an energy trading mechanism in the smart grid where different entities interact with each other’s (i.e., the sellers, the buyers and the grid). Prosumers can sell their extra energy to the buyers. Then, the latter can interact with the grid if any remaining needed energy. In the existing literature, most studies use the assumption that there is no priority for the buyers participating in the energy management system. All of them pay the same price for the energy suppliers (providers or sellers) without any distinction. In our case, our aim is to divide the deficient of energy in an optimal way between the sellers and the grid while integrating a priority for the buyers. We propose a game theoretical approach to model the different interactions. It is shown analytically that our proposed approach satisfies the prosumers by reducing their bills in comparison to other works.

Abstract: International audience; Fog computing is a distributed architecture which extends cloud computing resources to the end user. Furthermore, fog computing is deployed increasingly to fulfill the requirements of the Internet of Object (IoT) technology. This solution has been proposed to overcome the shortcomings of the cloud. Motivated by recent advances in fog computing, we aim to improve the performances of fog-cloud systems. A novel system design is proposed in which the energy consumption and the delay are considered. Different queue models are applied to our system, where the energy and delay costs are modeled. A coalition game between fog nodes is formulated to minimize the cost, while examining the energy-delay trade-off. To this end, we propose three energy-efficient solutions with the objective of minimizing the total cost of the execution of IoT applications in a fog-cloud system. Our simulation shows the effectiveness of the proposed solutions compared to works from the literature.

Abstract: International audience; The a posteriori access control mode consists in monitoring actions performed by users, to detect possible violations of the security policy and to apply sanctions or reparations. In general, logs are among the first data sources that information security specialists consult for forensics when they suspect that something went wrong. One difficult challenge we face when analyzing logs, is the multiple log file formats. However, normalizing logs in one format needs a lot of processing especially because log files usually contain a high volume of data. Our study proposes then to tackle this problem, by leaving the different log formats as they are, and retrieving information from logs by querying them. A semantic mediator makes it possible to inter-operate various sources of information without modifying their internal functioning. It can be responsible for locating data sources, to transmit queries to each source, or from one source to another, to retrieve the queries responses and possibly send them back to other sources. To the best of our knowledge, semantic mediation techniques have been used to share information from heterogeneous data sources, but they were never used in the context of log analysis.

Abstract: IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is a next generation network that provides the hypermedia services as data, voice and video to users. Due to high level requirements for IMS services, new kinds of network attacks are endlessly emerging. Thus, it is of paramount importance to protect the networks from attacks. Consequently, the Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) are quickly becoming a popular requirement in building a network security infrastructure. Securing service and signalization is a vital feature in the IMS network. Signaling is generally based on Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) which offers numerous challenges regarding security which causes issues in IMS network. This work presents a study of SIP protocol and discovers the critical security vulnerabilities in the course of registration phase. We focused on DDoS attacks on IMS server using SIP particularly with REGISTER message and proposed a scheme based on multi agent systems for intrusion detection which takes the advantage of the distributed paradigm to implement an efficient distributed system, as well as the integration of existing techniques, i.e., the well-known IDS SNORT.

Abstract: International audience; Occupants' thermal comfort assessment is becoming a crucial research topic since it aims not only at improving indoor thermal comfort but also to save energy in both commercial and residential buildings. Hence, it makes buildings more sustainable. Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) model is considered as the most recognized in thermal comfort standards and was widely used to estimate thermal sensation of occupants. However, few works are dealing with the assessment and control of occupants' thermal comfort in real time and most of them do not provide mechanisms to improve occupants' comfort in case of detecting indoor thermal discomfort. In this paper, we propose ThermCont a novel machine learning based tool to predict and control occupants' thermal comfort through the PMV model, in real time. Our tool uses multiple linear regression algorithm and is based on findings from a one-year longitudinal case study of occupants' thermal comfort in office building. Moreover, we also propose a new genetic algorithm based scheme to optimize parameters values of thermal comfort, when observing occupants' thermal discomfort, and hence to improve the indoor thermal comfort. The experimental results show the efficiency of ThermCont in terms of prediction accuracy and time complexity when compared to other machine learning algorithms, in addition to its ability to control and improve occupants' thermal comfort in real time.

Abstract: The advent of smart grids offers us the opportunity to better manage the electricity grids. One of the most interesting challenges in the modern grids is the consumer demand management. Indeed, the development in information and communication technologies encourages the development of demand-side management systems. This paper introduces two electricity management mechanisms in a smart buildings’ context. We first use negotiation and multi-leader–follower game techniques to model the interactions between the electricity providers and the buildings’ consumers. Then, we propose a distributed energy demand scheduling approach based on game theory with minimal interactions between consumers to optimize the energy demand cost. This approach aims to reduce the total energy cost and the peak to average consumption ratio, and to maximize the exploitation of renewable energy. We use a multi-agent system to model the system entities. The performance evaluation demonstrates that our distributed approach reduces the total consumption cost as well as each consumer bill.

Abstract: One of the most interesting challenges in the modern grids is the consumer demand management and optimization. However, the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) can offer promising solutions for this challenge. In this paper, we introduce a distributed multi-level solution for the energy consumption optimization. The proposed solution offers an automated demand control mechanism, using a Wireless Sensor Actuator Network (WSAN), to reduce the energy consumption of each consumer. Moreover, we propose a scheduling scheme that minimizes the total cost of a building energy demand based on a cooperative game model to achieve the collective goal. We introduce also a mechanism that improves the consumer satisfaction when the available energy is insufficient. The performance evaluation shows that the proposed approach reduces the energy demand, the total consumption cost, and the peak to average ratio.

Abstract: International audience; Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) integrate programmable computing and communication capabilities to traditional physical environments. The use of SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) technologies to build such a new generation of CPSs plays an important role in current critical national-wide infrastructures. SCADA-driven CPSs can be disrupted by cyber-physical attacks, putting at risk human safety, environmental regulation and industrial work. In this paper, we address the aforementioned issues and provide a discussion on the mitigation techniques that aim to optimize the recovery response when a SCADA-driven CPS is under attack. Abstract: Part 4: Software Security / Attacks; International audience; Hackers can exfiltrate sensitive data stored in an IoT device such as Android smartphones. He/She abuses the Android pairing mode and targets a personal computer system previously trusted by the device user. The existing protocols that allow file transfer from Android IoT devices to the computer cannot detect this attack. In this paper, we propose an approach to detect attacks exploiting trusted relationship between a third party system such as personal computer and an Android device to exfiltrate user data from the victim device to an attacker. We implement a protocol to secure communication between IoT Android device and third party system. Our approach has been proved to be effective in detecting these category of attacks with reasonable performance overheads.

Abstract: Part 1: Administration; International audience; Diagnosing accidental and malicious events in an industrial control system requires an event model with specific capacities. Most models are dedicated to either safety or security but rarely both. And the latter are developed for objectives other than diagnosis and therefore unfit for this task. In this paper, we propose an event model considering both safety and security events, usable in real-time, with a probabilistic measure of on-going and future events. This model is able to replace alerts in the context of more global scenarios, including with reinforcements or conflicts between safety and security. The model is then used to provide an analysis of some of the security and safety events in the Taum Sauk Hydroelectric Power Station.

Abstract: The objective of this thesis is to design an original transparent approach able to detect in real time the occurrence of an action, in an unsegmented flow and ideally as early as possible. This work is part of a collaboration between two IRISA-lnria teams in Rennes, namely lntuidoc and Mime TIC. By taking advantage of the complementary expertise of the two research teams, we propose to reconsider the needs and difficulties encountered to model, recognize and detect a 30 action by proposing new solutions in the light of the advances made in terms of 20 handwriting modeling. The contributions of this thesis are grouped into three main parts. In the first part, we propose a new approach to model and recognize a pre-segmented action. Indeed, it is first necessary to develop a representation able to characterize as finely as possible a given action to facilitate recognition. In the second part, we introduce an approach to recognize an action in an unsegmented flow. Finally, in the third part, we extend this last approach for the early characterization of an action with very little information. For each of these three issues, we have explicitly identified the difficulties to be considered in order to make a complete description of them so that we can design targeted solutions for each of them. The experimental results obtained on different benchmarks of actions attest to the validity of our approach. In addition, through collaborations that took place during the thesis, the developed approaches were deployed in three applications, including applications in animation and in dynamic hand gestures recognition.; L'objectif de cette thèse est de concevoir une approche transparente originale apte à détecter en temps-réel l'occurrence d'une action, dans un flot non segmenté et idéalement le plus tôt possible. Ces travaux s'inscrivent dans une collaboration entre deux équipes de l'IRISA-lnria de Rennes, à savoir lntuidoc et MimeTIC. En profitant de la complémentarité des savoir-faire des deux équipes de recherche, nous proposons de reconsidérer les besoins et les difficultés rencontrées pour modéliser, reconnaître et détecter une action 30 en proposant de nouvelles solutions à la lumière des avancées réalisées en termes de modélisation de gestes manuscrits 20. Les contributions de cette thèse sont regroupées en trois parties principales. Dans la première partie, nous proposons une nouvelle approche pour modéliser et reconnaître une action présegmentée. Dans la deuxième partie, nous introduisons une approche permettant de reconnaître une action dans un flot non segmenté. Enfin, dans la troisième partie, nous étendons cette dernière approche pour la caractérisation précoce d'une action avec très peu de d'information. Pour chacune de ces trois problématiques, nous avons identifié explicitement les difficultés à considérer afin d'en effectuer une description complète pour permettre de concevoir des solutions ciblées pour chacune d'elles. Les résultats expérimentaux obtenus sur différents benchmarks d'actions attestent de la validité de notre démarche. En outre, à travers des coopérations ayant eu lieu au cours de la thèse, les approches développées ont été déployées dans trois applications, dont des applications en animation et en reconnaissance de gestes dynamiques de la main.

Abstract: International audience; Being able to interactively detect and recognize 3D actions based on skeleton data, in unsegmented streams, has become an important computer vision topic. It raises three scientific problems in relation with variability. The first one is the temporal variability that occurs when subjects perform gestures with different speeds. The second one is the inter-class spatial variability, which refers to disparities between the displacement amounts induced by different classes (i.e. long vs. short movements). The last one is the intra-class spatial variability caused by differences in style and gesture amplitude. In this paper, we design an original approach that better considers these three issues. To address temporal variability we introduce the notion of curvilinear segmentation. It consists in extracting features, not on temporally-based sliding windows, but on trajectory segments for which the cumulated displacement equals a class-based amount. Second, to tackle inter-class spatial variability, we define several competing classifiers with their dedicated curvilinear windows. Last, we address intra-class spatial variability by designing a fusion system that takes the decisions and confidence scores of every competing classifier into account. Extensive experiments on four challenging skeleton-based datasets demonstrate the relevance of the proposed approach for action recognition and online action detection.

Abstract: The advent of smart grids offers us the opportunity to better manage the electricity grids. One of the most interesting challenges in the modern grids is the consumer demand management. Indeed, the development in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) encourages the development of demand-side management systems. In this paper, we propose a distributed energy demand scheduling approach that uses minimal interactions between consumers to optimize the energy demand. We formulate the consumption scheduling as a constrained optimization problem and use game theory to solve this problem. On one hand, the proposed approach aims to reduce the total energy cost of a building's consumers. This imposes the cooperation between all the consumers to achieve the collective goal. On the other hand, the privacy of each user must be protected, which means that our distributed approach must operate with a minimal information exchange. The performance evaluation shows that the proposed approach reduces the total energy cost, each consumer's individual cost, as well as the peak to average ratio.

Abstract: The smart grid integrates the use of information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in order to ensure the interaction between its computational and physical elements. Moreover, it supports bidirectional information flows between the energy users and the utility grid that motivate energy users not simply to consume but also to generate energy and to share it with the utility grid and/or with other consumers. Many researches have addressed the problem of energy management in the smart grid context and have been done in order to offer maximum savings on energy bills as efficiently as possible. However, many algorithms presented in the literature do not exploit storage systems and/or present high energy losses. Taking into consideration energy losses, this research discusses the effects of these losses on consumers’ bill. Hence, we propose an agent-based solution that takes into consideration users’ loss minimization in the smart grid context. The contribution of this paper is twofold. Firstly, it highlights the effects of power loss on the energy cost in an electrical system. Secondly, a novel approach aiming to help the storage system meet consumers’ daily demands will be presented. Simulation results show that our proposal minimizes consumers’ energy costs and losses.

Abstract: International audience; Action recognition based on human skeleton structure represents nowadays a prosper research field. This is mainly due to the recent advances in terms of capture technologies and skeleton extraction algorithms. In this context, we observed that 3D skeleton-based actions share several properties with handwritten symbols since they both result from a human performance. We accordingly hypothesize that the action recognition problem can take advantage of trial and error already carried out on handwritten patterns. Therefore, inspired by one of the most efficient and compact handwriting feature-set, we propose in this paper a skeleton descriptor referred to as Handwriting-Inspired Features (HIF3D). First of all a data preprocessing is applied to joint trajectories in order to handle the variabilities among actor's morphologies. Then we extract the HIF3D features from the processed joint locations according to a time partitioning scheme so as to additionally encode the temporal information over the sequence. Finally, we selected the Support Vector Machine (SVM) to achieve the classification step. Evaluations conducted on two challenging datasets, namely HDM05 and UTKinect, testify the soundness of our approach as the obtained results outperform the state-of-the-art algorithms that rely on skeleton data.

Abstract: In the smart grid context, with the growth of the energy demand, Demand Side Management (DSM) is a good solution to balance the power consumption and the power generation. Its main goal is to satisfy the two essential actors: the providers and the consumers, in order to improve the reliability and the efficiency of the smart grid. With the integration of renewable energies, the number of providers increases leading to introducing many challenges in the load control. In this paper, we propose a novel real time pricing algorithm based on Stackelberg game. It defines the consumers' energy consumption and the providers' price by taking advantages of the bidirectional communication infrastructure in such way to minimize the consumers' bills and maximize the providers' profit; these two concepts become nowadays a portfolio to work on. In this game, different active consumers (i.e. prosumers) negotiate with different energy providers. The performance of our algorithm is proved through extensive simulations. The coherence between the prices/demands deal is shown with two scenarios compared to the literature.

Abstract: International audience; One of the requirements of a smart grid (SG) is making the electrical network and its subsystems aware of their condition. The deployment of various sensing devices plays an essential part in achieving this goal. Nevertheless, data generated by this deployment needs to be well managed so that it can be leveraged for operational improvement. Data aggregation is perceived as an important technique for managing data in the SG in general, and in its Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) in particular. Indeed, data aggregation techniques have been used in order to reduce communication overhead in SG networks. However, in order to fully take advantage of the aggregation process, some level of intelligence should be introduced at concentrator nodes to make the network more responsive to local conditions. Moreover, by using a more meaningful aggregation technique, entities can be accurately informed of any disturbance. This paper contributes an agent-based approach for data and energy management in an SG. It also proposes CoDA, a correlation-based data aggregation technique designed for the AMI. CoDA employs fuzzy logic to evaluate the correlation between several messages received from Smart Meters (SMs). Analysis and simulation results show the benefits of the proposed approach w.r.t. both packet concatenation and no aggregation approaches.

Abstract: This paper introduces a study of the fog computing suitability assessment as a solution for the increasing demand of the IoT devices. In particular, we focus on the energy consumption and the Quality of Service (QoS) as two important metrics of the performance of the fog. Therefore, we present a modeling of these two metrics in the fog. Then, we express the problem as constrained optimization and solve it efficiently using Evolutionary Algorithms (EA). Our approach stands out as an energy-efficient solution.

Abstract: International audience; Exergames involve using the fullbody to interact with an immersive world, which raises the challenge of capturing, processing and recognizing the action of the user even for cheap mocap systems such as the Microsoft Kinect. In fact, these recent technological advances have renewed interest in skeleton-based action recognition. Our review of related literature reveals that the issues encountered are not the result of random processes, which could simply be studied by using statistical tools, but are instead due to the fact that the pattern to be recognized, i.e. an action, was produced by a human being. 2D hand-drawn symbols are further examples of patterns resulting from a human motion. Therefore, the main contribution of this paper is to examine the validity of transferring the expertise of hand-drawn symbol representation to better recognize actions based on skeleton data. Principally, we propose a new action representation, namely the 3DMM, as an initial case-study illustrating how such transfer could be conducted. The experimental results, obtained over two benchmarks, confirm the soundness of our approach and encourage more thorough examination of the transfer.

Abstract: The increased power demand and the renewable energy integration problems have led to the evolution of the traditional electric power grid toward smart grid. In order to permit the interaction among computational and physical elements, the smart grid supports bidirectional information flows between the energy user and the utility grid by integrating Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Thus, bidirectional flows between smart grid entities allow energy users not only to consume energy, but also to generate energy and to share it with the utility grid or with other energy consumers. Some researchers have paid attention to the energy management in the smart grids in order to provide an efficient way to maximize the savings of energy bills. However, these researches present some common drawbacks such as: the lack of integration of storage system and the high energy losses. Therefore, this chapter discusses a novel agent-based approach for energy management and control by balancing electric power supply, and minimizing energy bill, while considering residential consumers preferences and comfort level. Simulation results show that our proposal minimizes the energy costs for each energy demand and reduces conventional energy utilization.

Abstract: Owing to the explosion of data and the growing need for communications, energy consumption in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector has shown a staggering increase these last years, making it one of the main responsible factors in climate change. The wireless industry exceeded all the expectations in terms of energy consumption, as it has to cover billions of daily users while trying to guarantee high performance communications. Traffic load keeps increasing especially with the growth of the internet of things. Despite the efforts that have been done for communication networks greening, researches in this field still encounter different issues and a considerable number of challenges need to be dealt with. In this paper, we first introduce the concept of ICT greening. After that, we introduce the recent research in this field and highlight the main used concepts. By studying the advantages and drawbacks of the latter, we aim to give some solutions and suggestions that could be helpful for the future researches in the field of energy saving in networks.

The contribution of this paper is twofold. Firstly, it discusses the effects of battery charging and discharging on the energy cost and the battery life. Secondly, a novel algorithm aiming to help the storage system to fairly meet daily consumers' demands will be presented. Simulation results show that our proposal minimizes consumers' bill, reduces charging and discharging of energy storage system and distributes fairly the stored energy to all consumers.

Abstract: International audience; The use of wireless communication is a major trend in the so called Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA). Consequently, Wireless Industrial Sensor Networks (WISN) were developed to meet real time and security requirements needed by SCADA systems. In term of security, WISN suffer from the same threats that those targeting classical WSN. Indeed, attackers mainly use wireless communication as a medium to launch these attacks. But as these networks are used to manage critical systems, consequences of such attacks can be more harmful. Therefore, additionally to the use of cryptographic and authentication mechanisms, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) are also used as a second line of defense. In this paper we propose an efficient IDS deployment scheme specially tailored to fit WISN characteristics. It builds a virtual wireless backbone that adds security purposes to the WISN. We also show that the proposed deployment scheme provides a good traffic monitoring capability with an acceptable number of monitoring nodes. It particularly allows detecting that a packet has been forged, deleted, modified or delayed during its transmission.

Abstract: The electric grid is radically evolving into the smart grid, which is characterized by improved energy efficiency of available resources. The smart grid permits interactions among its computational and physical elements thanks to the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). ICTs provide energy management algorithms and allow renewable energy integration and energy price minimization. In this paper, we present a review of the state of the energy management algorithms. We define a set of requirements for EM algorithms and evaluate them qualitatively. We also discuss emerging tools and trends in this area.

Abstract: Part 3: Cyber Infrastructure; International audience; Many research works focus on the adoption of cloud infrastructure as a service (IaaS), where virtual machines (VM) are deployed on multiple cloud service providers (CSP). In terms of virtual resource allocation driven by security requirements, most of proposals take the aspect of cloud service customer (CSC) into account but do not address such requirements from CSP. Besides, it is a shared understanding that using a formal policy model to support the expression of security requirements can drastically ease the cloud resource management and conflict resolution. To address these theoretical limitations, our work is based on a formal model that applies organization-based access control (OrBAC) policy to IaaS resource allocation. In this paper, we first integrate the attribute-based security requirements in service level agreement (SLA) contract. After transformation, the security requirements are expressed by OrBAC rules and these rules are considered together with other non-security demands during the enforcement of resource allocation. We have implemented a prototype for VM scheduling in OpenStack-based multi-cloud environment and evaluated its performance.

Abstract: International audience; The native app development is increased in Android systems to implement CPU-intensive applications suchas game engines, signal processing, and physics simulation. However, native code analysis is very difficultand requires a lot of time which explains the limited number of systems that track information flow in nativelibraries. But, none of them detects the sensitive information leakage through control flows at native level. Inthis paper, we combine dynamic and static taint analysis to propagate taint along control dependencies. Ourapproach has proven to be effective in analyzing several malicious Android applications that invoke nativelibrairies with reasonable performance overheads.

Abstract: International audience; Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) technology offers a new way of automating the identification and storing of information in RFID tags. The emerging opportunities for the use of RFID technology in human centric applications like monitoring and indoor guidance systems indicate how important this topic is in term of privacy. Holding privacy issues from the early stages of RFID data collection helps to master the data view before translating it into business events and storing it in databases. An RFID middleware is the entity that sits between tag readers and database applications. It is in charge of collecting, filtering and aggregating the requested events from heterogeneous RFID environments. Thus, the system, at this point, is likely to suffer from parameter manipulation and eavesdropping, raising privacy concerns. In this paper, we propose an access and privacy controller module that adds a security level to the RFID middleware standardized by the EPCglobal consortium. We provide a privacy policy-driven model using some enhanced contextual concepts of the extended Role Based Access Control model, namely the purpose, the accuracy and the consent principles. We also use the provisional context to model security rules whose activation depends on the history of previously performed actions. To show the feasibility of our privacy enforcement model, we first provide a proof-of-concept prototype integrated into the middleware of the Fosstrak platform, then evaluate the performance of the integrated module in terms of execution time.

Abstract: International audience; Communication security is a major concern in industrial process management. Indeed, in addition to real-time requirements, it is very important to ensure that sensing data sent by field sensors are not altered or modified during their transmission. This is more true in Wireless Sensor Networks where communication can be hijacked and false data injected. Therefore wireless communication protocols include several security mechanisms to ensure data confidentiality and integrity. In this paper, we present an attack against WirelessHART, the leading wireless communication protocol in industrial environment. We show that an insider attacker can bypass security mechanisms and inject false commands in the network. Such attacks can have harmful economical consequences or even more can threaten human lives. We propose also some solutions that can be applied for detecting and mitigating this kind of attacks.

Abstract: With the rapid development of the cloud computing technology, it has matured enough for a lot of individuals and organizations to move their work into the cloud. Correspondingly, a variety of cloud services are emerging. It is a key issue to assess the cloud services in order to help the cloud users select the most suitable cloud service and the cloud providers offer this service with the highest quality. The criteria parameters defining the cloud services are complex which lead to cloud service deviation. In this paper, we propose an assessment method of parameters importance in cloud services using rough set theory. The method can effectively compute the importance of cloud services parameters and sort them. On the one hand, the calculation can be used as the credible reference when users choose their appropriate cloud services. On the other hand, it can help cloud service providers to meet user requirements and enhance the user experience. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the method and its relevance in the cloud context.

Abstract: International audience; Cognitive radio network is a concept of wireless communication for mobile devices that offers the possibility to exploit the unused spectrum resources opportunistically. These networks bring out the need for new solutions that mitigate the spectrum management issue. However, existing works do not focus on devices mobility whereas serious problems arise when users are mobile specifically about their provided quality of services. In this work, we study spectrum sharing and spectrum handoff for mobile secondary users (SUs) and we propose a novel approach that can be executed by a mobile SU when traveling through wireless networks. The proposed solution is inspired from multi-agent system auctions and integrates a learning module which accelerates SUs’ spectrum bands allocation. One of the main contributions of this paper is the realistic implementation of the learning based auction and the interesting results obtained through a network discrete event simulator. Results prove that our proposal enhances spectrum utilization and guarantees users satisfaction.

Abstract: International audience; This paper presents an approach allowing for a given security and utility requirements, the selection of a combination of mechanisms and the way it will be applied to enforce them. To achieve this goal, we firstly use an expressive formal language to specify the security and utility properties required by data owners and the security mechanisms that can be used to enforce them. Second, we extend and use a Graphplan-based approach to build a planning graph representing all possible transformations of the system resulting from the application of security mechanisms. Finally, we define a method to search the best security mechanisms execution plan to transform the used system from its initial state to a state in which the security requirements are enforced.

Abstract: International audience; La nécessité croissante de l'utilisation des énergies renouvelables et de l'obligation de réduire les émissions de gaz à effet de serre ont conduit à l'évolution du réseau électrique traditionnel vers le réseau intelligent (smart-grid). Les Technologies d'Informations et de Communication (TICs) sont des facteurs incontournables pour la mise en œuvre et le développement de ce nouveau réseau car ils permettent les interactions entre l'informatique et les éléments physiques du réseau intelligent. En effet, les technologies d'informations et de communication offrent des algorithmes de gestion de l'énergie et permettent l'intégration des énergies renouvelables et la minimisation du prix de l'énergie. Compte tenu de l'importance des énergies renouvelables, nous proposons dans ce manuscrit une nouvelle stratégie pour la gestion de l'énergie à base d'agents dans les réseaux intelligents. Pour assurer une solution intelligente nous adoptons l'utilisation des systèmes multi-agents (SMA) dans notre proposition. De plus, notre solution intègre les systèmes de stockage et les algorithmes de négociation qui permettent de réduire l'accès au réseau électrique et les factures des consommateurs. On a simulé notre proposition en utilisant le simulateur JADE (Java Agent Development Framework). Les résultats des tests réalisés par simulation montrent que notre proposition minimise le coût de l'énergie et réduit l'utilisation de l'énergie conventionnelle.

Abstract: International audience; In healthcare information management, privacy and confidentiality are two major concerns usually satisfied by access control means. Traditional access control mechanisms prevent illegal access by controlling access right before executing an action. They have some limitations like inflexibility in unanticipated circumstances (e.g., emergency). Recently, a posteriori access control has been proposed to complete a priori protection for a more effective and flexible solution. It controls the access by deterring user from having unauthorized access. To be deployed, a posteriori access control needs evidence to prove the users' violations. In this paper, we show how log records defined by the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise-Audit Trail and Node Authentication (ATNA) profile can be used to deploy an a posteriori access control system. To develop an efficient method for finding violations, we propose a framework that customizes ATNA log records according to a contextual security policy like the Organization-Based Access Control. Experiments we conducted are also presented.

Abstract: International audience; The security of SCADA systems is a major concern. Indeed, these systems are used to manage important infrastructures. However, conducting security analyzes on these systems is almost impossible. Therefore, using simulators is the best way to do that. In this paper, we describe our simulator for WirelessHART SCADA-based systems. It implements the whole protocol stack and both field devices and the Network Manager including routing and scheduling algorithms. The simulator is specially tailored to assess WirelessHART security mechanisms and to test attacks and countermeasures. It includes scenarios for testing several kinds of attacks such as sybil and denial of service (DoS) attacks. Also, new scenarios can easily be added to test other kinds of attacks.
