Abstract

The article discusses the use of a dynamic simulation to reduce a design pressure in high-pressure heat exchangers. Topics include the use of the 10/13 rule according to the American Petroleum Institute (API) Standard 521, various factors that affects pressure's transient behavior include the rupture of opening area, relief device capacity, and mass flux and thermodynamics of the fluids, the assumptions for the dynamic approach, and the margin between the pressure peak and design pressure.
