Although dream interpretation is an unusual practice for systemic therapists, the constructivist approach allows the therapist to integrate a number of different procedures (technical eclecticism) if they are coherent with a theoretical conceptualization. The theoretical orientation that frames the interventions presented in this case study is Personal Construct Theory (PCT) as extended by Procter (e.g., 1981) to include social systems. In the cases presented, a genuine interest in the meaning of certain dreams arises in the family. The therapists provide a tentative dream interpretation that serves to build a more intimate space for the couple, aside from their role as parents.
