This article discusses the history and current state of medical cannabis in psychiatry. The use of cannabis for medicinal purposes dates back thousands of years, with evidence of its use in ancient China, India, Persia, and Egypt. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, cannabis preparations were widely used for various conditions. However, the prohibition of cannabis and the development of chemically produced pharmaceuticals led to a decline in its use. In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in the therapeutic potential of cannabinoids, particularly in the treatment of chronic pain and spasticity. However, more research is needed to fully understand the indications and potential risks of cannabis-based medicine in psychiatry. The article includes a collection of review articles that cover various aspects of medical cannabis in psychiatry, including its use in autism spectrum disorder, Tourette syndrome, anxiety disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, schizophrenia, and dementia. The authors emphasize the need for further studies and clinical trials to determine the efficacy and safety of cannabinoids in psychiatry. [Extracted from the article]
