Aim: Previous studies have demonstrated that Ras-related GTP-binding protein Rab10 (Rab10) plays a role in psychostimulant-induced behavioral effects. In this study, we showed that Rab10 in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) of male animals affects the development of cocaine-induced behavioral effects, which are associated with the plasma membrane expression of the GABAB heteroreceptor (GABABR). Methods: We performed flow cytometry, immunoendocytosis, pHluorin activity analysis, electrophysiology analysis, and open-field testing to explore the role of Rab10 in modulating the membrane expression and function of GABABR and its regulatory effect on cocaine-induced behavioral effects. Results: Transcriptomics analysis showed that Rab10 was elevated following acute cocaine treatment. Membrane levels of Rab10 increased within day 1 of the cocaine treatment, subsequently decreasing at later time points. Rab10 deficiency in NAc regions significantly increased cocaine-inhibited membrane GABABR levels and inhibited cocaine-induced hyperlocomotion and behavioral sensitization. In addition, GAD 67 + -expressing neurons from NAc regions treated with cocaine revealed a significant decrease in Rab10 membrane expression. Furthermore, NAc neuron-specific Rab10 knockout resulted in a significant increase in the cocaine-inhibited membrane expression of GABABR, along with increased miniature inhibitory postsynaptic current (mIPSC) amplitude and attenuation of baclofen-amplified Ca2+ influx. Objective: To explore the effectiveness of Tai Chi on cognitive function in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Methods: According to the PRISMA guidelines, randomized controlled trial (RCT) literature on the efficacy of Tai Chi on MCI patients was searched in China National Knowledge Network (CNKI), China Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), Wanfang Data, China Scientific Journal Database (VIP), PubMed, Embase, Duxiu Database, Web of Science and Cochrane Library from their inception to April 2024. The risk of bias in each study was appraised using the Cochrane risk−of−bias tool using Revman 5.4. Random effect model or fixed effect model was used to compare the effects of Tai Chi and control conditions on baseline and post−intervention assessment of cognitive function. Meta−analysis was performed using Stata15.0 software. Results: Nine studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Tai Chi significantly improved Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA, SMD, 1.43, p < 0.00001), Delayed Recall Test (DRT, SMD, 0.90, p < 0.00001), verbal fluency test (VFT, SMD, 0.40, p < 0.00001), and Trail Making Test (TMT, SDM, −0.69, p < 0.00001) in MCI patients. Subgroup analyses showed that 24-forms Tai Chi was more effective than 8-forms Tai Chi in improving MoCA (SMD, 1.89, p < 0.00001) and 10-forms Tai Chi was more effective than 24-forms Tai Chi in improving DRT (SMD, 1.53, p < 0.00001). Conclusion: Tai Chi improved cognitive function in MCI patients, and Tai Chi types might be the influence factor on Tai Chi improving the global cognitive function and memory function in MCI patients. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology holds immense potential in the realm of automated diagnosis for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), yet it is not without potential shortcomings. This paper systematically reviews the research progresses of integrating AI technology with depression diagnosis and provides a comprehensive analysis of existing research findings. In this context, we observe that the knowledge-driven first-generation of depression diagnosis methods could only address deterministic issues in structured information, with the selection of depression-related features directly influencing identification outcomes. The data-driven second-generation of depression diagnosis methods achieved automatic learning of features but required substantial high-quality clinical data, and the results were often obtained solely from the black-box models which lack sufficient explainability. In an effort to overcome the limitations of the preceding approaches, the third-generation of depression diagnosis methods combined the strengths of knowledge-driven and data-driven approaches. Through the fusion of information, the diagnostic accuracy is greatly enhanced, but the interpretability remains relatively weak. In order to enhance interpretability and introduce diagnostic criteria, this paper offers a new approach using Large Language Models (LLMs) as AI agents for assisting the depression diagnosis. Finally, we also discuss the potential advantages and challenges associated with this approach. Constructed wetlands are standard conservation practices used to reduce nitrate loads in agricultural watersheds. Many studies have examined the efficiency of denitrification in wetlands under various scenarios, but quantifying the watershed-scale impact of wetlands on downstream nitrate levels is rarely done using field observations. In this study, we estimated nitrate removal in a constructed wetland in the headwaters of Mud Creek, a HUC12 watershed in eastern Iowa, from May-September 2022 and May-September 2023 (a tenmonth period). We also measured nitrate loads at four successive downstream sites, three along Mud Creek and one below its confluence with the larger Cedar River. The wetland removed 6,200 kg of nitrate (74% of total inputs). At the three downstream locations in Mud Creek, the percentage of each site's total nitrate load removed by the wetland decreased to 19, 8.6, and 4.1%--this latter value represents the wetland's influence on nitrate removal in the entire Mud Creek basin. The wetland's impact of nitrate loads in the Cedar River was negligible (reduction of 0.02%). The percentage of a site's drainage area treated by the wetland approximately followed a 1:1 relationship to that site's percent reduction in nitrate. Profiles of nitrate concentrations in Mud Creek notably varied pre- and post-wetland. Concentrations before the installation steadily decreased along the waterway, while post-wetland concentrations rapidly decreased directly downstream of the wetland and steadily increased at each succeeding site. Our results demonstrate that while the wetland successfully lowered local nitrate levels, its effect on the basin's overall nitrate loads was minimal. Achieving nutrient reduction goals at the watershed scale solely using constructed wetlands appears infeasible given that the required number of practices greatly exceeds current efforts. Objective: Physical exercise may increase brain volume and cortical thickness in late adulthood. However, few studies have examined the possibility for exercise to influence brain morphology in women treated for breast cancer. We conducted a nested sub-study within a randomized clinical trial to examine whether 6 months of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise in postmenopausal women with early-stage breast cancer influences brain morphology. Methods: We included twenty-eight postmenopausal women newly diagnosed with Stage 0-IIIa breast cancer (M age = 62.96 ± 5.40) who were randomized to either 45–60 min of supervised aerobic exercise 3 days/week (n = 16) or usual care (n = 12). Before beginning aromatase inhibitor aromatase inhibitor therapy, and the exercise intervention, and again at 6-month follow-up, volumetric and cortical thickness measures were derived from magnetic resonance imaging scans. Results: There were no significant intervention effects on brain volume and cortical thickness. However, greater average exercise intensity (%) during the intervention was associated with greater post-intervention cortical volume, mean cortical thickness, precentral gyrus thickness, and superior parietal thickness (all p < 0.05). Finally, total supervised exercise time was associated with higher precentral gyrus thickness after the intervention (p = 0.042, R 2 = 0.263). Conclusion: The exercise intervention did not significantly affect brain volumes and cortical thickness compared to the control group. However, positive associations were found between exercise intensity and brain morphology changes after the 6-month intervention, indicating that exercise may reduce the vulnerability of the brain to the deleterious effects of breast cancer and its treatment. The coral reefs along Pakistan's coastline are of ecological and economic significance. However, they are increasingly threatened by anthropogenic threats and climate change. These vulnerable ecosystems are declining due to various factors such as sedimentation, climate change, overfishing, destructive fishing practices, marine pollution, and tourism development. We found that 29%, 24%, 26%, 16% and 18% of the studies exceeding, marine pollution, overfishing/destructive fishing, coastal tourism, climate change and sedimentation, respectively; thus, indicating inadequate water quality status in part of Pakistan coastal water. These influences lead to several negative impacts, such as jeopardized coral health, decline in biodiversity, and the simplification of reef structures. In response to these threats, conservation efforts are imperative. This literature review provides an in-depth analysis of anthropogenic threats, climate change and the conservation of coral reefs in Pakistan. This review provides suggestions on how the country could better conserve its coral reef ecosystem. These include (1) initiatives such as establishing marine protected areas (MPAs), (2) encouraging sustainable fishing practices and reducing pollution, (3) developing the country as an ecotourism destination and implementing climate change adaptation measures, and (4) community engagement through awareness campaigns and fostering collaboration among, governmental organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and scientists. As the COVID-19 pandemic persists, the increasing evidences suggest that the patients with COVID-19 may face the risks of the neurological complications and sequelae. To address this issue, we conducted a comprehensive study aimed at exploring the relationship between COVID-19 and various neurological disorders, with a particular focus on the shared dysregulated genes and the potential therapeutic targets. We selected six neurological disorders for investigation, including Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, stroke, Parkinson's disease, and the sleep disorders. Through the bioinformatics analysis of the association between these disorders and COVID-19, we aimed to uncover the common molecular mechanisms and the potential treatment pathways. In this study, we utilized the publicly available RNA-Seq and microarray datasets, and employed tools such as Limma and DESeq2 for the differential gene analysis. Through the Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis, we explored the common biological features and pathways. Additionally, we focused on analyzing the regulatory roles of miRNA and transcription factors on the shared differentially expressed genes, and predicted the potential drugs interacting with these genes. These analyses contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between COVID-19 and the neurological disorders, and provide a theoretical basis for the future treatment strategies. Through this research, we aim to offer the deeper insights to the scientific community and present the new perspectives for the clinical practice in addressing the challenges of the neurological complications and sequelae faced by the COVID-19 patients. Introduction: Perceptual representations in language comprehension were examined using sentence-picture verification tasks. However, concerns have been raised regarding the suitability of concrete pictures for representing abstract concepts compared to image-schematic diagrams. To assess the perceptual representations of spatial and abstract domains in both first language (L1) and second language (L2) processing, the study tests bilingual speakers’ mental imagery on the basis of the simulation-based L1 comprehension model and proposes a simulation-based L2 comprehension model, supported by empirical evidence from an innovative sentence-diagram verification paradigm. Methods: 41 adult L1 Mandarin Chinese speakers participated in the study. 21 participants completed the Chinese sentence-diagram verification task (Experiment 1), while 20 participants completed the translation-equivalent version in L2 English (Experiment 2). Participants read a sentence [e.g., A diligent worker walked into the office (spatial sense); A strong team headed into the final (abstract sense)] at their self-paced speed, followed by a congruent (e.g., into diagram) or incongruent diagram (e.g., out-of diagram), and made binary judgments to verify spatial configurations between the sentence and diagram. Semantic rating tasks in both Chinese and English were also conducted to validate congruency between diagrams and sentences in both languages. Results and discussion: Results from Experiment 1 indicate overall compatibility effects on L1 Chinese processing, unaffected by directional verbs or abstractness of sense. Results from Experiment 2 reveal interference effects on L2 English processing, with interference observed only after reading sentences encoding spatial senses, not abstract senses. Aligning with previous findings using sentencepicture verification tasks, the current findings confirm the weaker mental simulation effects in L2 processing compared to L1 processing. These findings extend the existing simulation-based L1 comprehension model, provide empirical support for the proposed simulation-based L2 comprehension model, and validate the innovative sentence-diagram verification paradigm for examining image-schematic representations in spatial and abstract language processing among Chinese-English bilinguals. Is negation more difficult to process than affirmation? If it is, does processing negation in a second language (L2) compound the difficulty compared to the first language (L1)? This article addresses the issues of difficulties in processing different types of negation in the L1 and L2 by looking at the differences in the ways in which comprehenders anticipate upcoming visual information during sentence processing. Using a blank-screen paradigm, we recorded eye fixations of Croatian native speakers and Croatian learners of English while they were anticipating matching or mismatching pictures to sentences with various types of negation in L1 (Croatian) and L2 (English). Using a between-group design, we manipulated sentence polarity (affirmative vs. negative), negation type (sentential vs. negative quantifier) within both L1 Croatian and L2 English so that we could observe potential anticipation effects varying as a function of the two predictors. In line with previous studies, affirmation in the L1 was easier to process than negation, and participants were able to anticipate sentence-picture matches in both the L1 and the L2 group. In contrast with our prediction, anticipatory looks did not significantly vary across negation types in Croatian based on the number of structural cues. In L2 English, learners exhibited prediction ability across negation types. These findings go against the view that comprehension in L2 comes with a reduced ability to generate expectations, and they highlight the robustness of mental simulations in both L1 and L2 negation processing. Long COVID, or Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC), was characterized by persistent symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, and cognitive impairments. These symptoms, emerging one to 2months post-infection and persisting for several months, cannot be attributed to other diagnoses. The pathophysiology of long COVID remained elusive; however, emerging studies suggested multiple potential mechanisms, including the reactivation of Epstein-Barr virus, persistent SARS-CoV-2 reservoirs, neuroinflammation, and vascular damage, which may contribute to its development. Long COVID affected multiple organ systems, including respiratory, circulatory, and nervous systems, leading to a range of functional impairments. Additionally, it showed a profound impact on mental health, manifesting as anxiety and depression, which significantly degraded the quality of life. The absence of definitive treatments underscored the importance of prevention. Recent evidence indicated that early antiviral intervention--particularly with small-molecule drugs such as Metformin, Ensitrelvir, Molnupiravir, and Nirmatrelvir--may effectively reduce the incidence of longCOVID. This underscored the promising role of small-molecule compounds in mitigating long-term COVID-19 consequences, offering a novel preventive strategy against long COVID and its extensive impacts on patients. The aim of the study was to examine the effects of a 5-week dynamic finger flexor strength training program on bouldering performance and climbing-specific strength tests. Advanced to elite level boulderers (n = 31) were randomized to a dynamic finger strength training group (DFS) or a control group (CON). The DFS training program consisted of 3 weekly sessions (3–5 sets, 4–10 repetitions per session). Both groups continued bouldering training as usual throughout the intervention period. Pre- and post-intervention measures included bouldering performance, maximal dynamic finger strength, isometric finger strength (peak and average force), and rate of force development (RFD). The DFS demonstrated greater improvement in dynamic finger strength (11.5%, 3.9 kg) than the CON (5.3%, 1.7 kg; p = 0.075, ES = 0.90), but there were no differences between the groups in 1RM (p = 0.075, ES = 0.67), bouldering performance (p = 0.39, ES = 0.35), isometric finger strength (p = 0.42–0.56, ES = 0.20–0.22) or RFD (p = 0.30, ES = 0.46). The DFS improved dynamic (p < 0.01, ES = 1.83) and isometric peak and average (p < 0.01, ES = 0.98, and p < 0.01, ES = 0.75, respectively) finger strength, while the CON only increased dynamic finger strength (p < 0.05, ES = 0.58). None of groups improved bouldering performance or RFD (p = 0.07–0.58). In conclusion, 5 weeks of DFS training improving dynamic strength to a greater extent than bouldering alone in addition to improving isometric finger strength among advanced boulderers. One of the main challenges are the quality and correctness of the output of LLMs as well as the overreliance of students on the output without critically reflecting on it. This poses the question of the quality of the output of LLMs in educational tasks and what students and teachers need to consider when using LLMs for creating educational items. In this work, we focus on the quality and characteristics of conceptual items developed using ChatGPT without user-generated improvements. The procedures to create and select such a high-quality set of items that is fully automatically generated require large efforts and point towards cognitive demands of teachers when using LLMs to create items. Moreover, the results demonstrate that human oversight or student interviews are necessary when creating one-dimensional assessments and distractors that are closely aligned with students' difficulties. The risk of more frequent and intensified extreme events is expected to increase with climate change. In semi-arid regions, particularly, both increased flooding and prolonged droughts pose a threat as the water resources system must be prepared for both types of extremes. To understand how future extremes may be altered, however, past extremes must be understood. For this reason, this study employs three physically based models to simulate the atmospheric, snow, and hydrologic conditions in the American River Watershed: the Weather Research and Forecasting Model and the Watershed Environmental Hydrology Hydro-Climate Model with the addition of a SNOW Module. Each model is individually calibrated and validated against either gauge data or data provided by the Parameter-Elevation Regressions on Independent Slopes Model for two 10-year periods before a full 169-year daily reconstruction is performed for the period from 1852 through 2020. To analyze the model performance under hydrologic extremes, three flood years (1997, 2006, and 2017) and two drought periods (1987-1992 and 2012-2016) are further analyzed. The reconstruction outputs are found to successfully simulate historical conditions at both daily and monthly scales. Results highlight the importance of fully accounting for the role of temperature in snow processes and the subsequent flow conditions. By understanding how the models perform under historical extreme conditions, future extreme events can be compared, and necessary adaptation plans can be conceived to ensure that the watershed is prepared for future wet and dry conditions. Additionally, the created reconstruction dataset is comprehensive, simulating conditions across the hydroclimate, at a finer spatial and temporal scale than is typically available from observation data alone. Therefore, actively utilizing high-spin states to enhance challenging chemical transformations, such as C-H bond activation, represents an intriguing research avenue. However, the inherent instability of high-spin states relative to low-spin states in pre-reaction complexes often hinders their accessibility around the transition state, especially in heme systems with strong ligand fields. Counterintuitively, our investigation of the metabolic hydroxylation of paclitaxel by human CYP2C8 using a hybrid quantum mechanics and molecular mechanics (QM/MM) approach showed that the high-spin sextet state exhibits unusually high stability, when the reaction follows a secondary reaction pathway leading to 6β-hydroxypaclitaxel. We thoroughly analyzed the factors contributing to the enhanced stabilization of the high-spin state, and the knowledge obtained could be instrumental in designing competent biomimetic catalysts and biocatalysts for C-H bond activation. Background: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) represents a prodromal stage of dementia, characterized by cognitive decline exceeding that expected with normal aging. Exercise interventions have emerged as a promising approach to counter functional decline and enhance cognitive function in the elderly MCI population. However, the optimal exercise modalities and dosage (doseresponse relationship) are understudied. Objective: It aims to determine the most effective exercise modality for MCI patients by optimizing the dose-response relationship to ensure sufficient intensity to induce positive neurological adaptations. Methods: A systematic search of electronic databases, including PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials was conducted from inception to April 15, 2024. Studies evaluating the efficacy of exercise interventions in MCI participants were included. Primary outcomes of interest are global cognition and executive function. Randomeffects models will be utilized for both pairwise and network meta-analysis. Results: Following the application of specific inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 42 articles, encompassing 2832 participants, were chosen for inclusion in a network meta-analysis. The findings revealed that multi-component exercise demonstrated superior efficacy in mitigating the deterioration of global cognition, as evidenced by standard mean differences (SMDs) of 1.09 (95% CI: 0.68 to 1.51) compared to passive controls. Additionally, multi-component exercise exhibited a significant impact on executive function, with SMDs of 2.50 (95% CI: 0.88 to 4.12) when contrasted with passive controls. Our research has demonstrated that sessions lasting 30 minutes, occurring 3-4 times per week, with interventions lasting 12-24 weeks and an intensity of 60-85% of maximum heart rate, yield higher effect sizes in improving global cognition. However, sessions lasting 30-61 minutes, with interventions lasting 25 weeks or longer, show greater effectiveness in enhancing executive function. Conclusion: A network meta-analysis identified multi-component exercise as the most effective intervention for improving global cognitive and executive function in patients with mild cognitive impairment. Notably, moderate-intensity exercise performed at least three times weekly appears beneficial, with evidence suggesting shorter sessions and higher frequencies may optimize cognitive outcomes. Teachers' wellbeing has been a concern because they have to balance health with work. Since the role of teachers is pivotal in education, there is increased in research on their wellbeing status. Method: The current systematic review aims to analyze the distribution of research on teacher wellbeing from 2020 to mid-February 2024 using a quantitative method. It focuses on yearly distribution of studies, the research methods adopted by scholars, and the group of teachers investigated over the period. Rationale: Relapse to drug use is a major clinical challenge in the treatment of addictive disorders, including psychostimulant use and may be exacerbated by reduced sensitivity to natural, non-drug reward. Given the relatively limited set of outcomes, and short withdrawal time in rodent studies, we conducted a more detailed assessment of the response to natural rewards in methamphetamine (METH) naive versus exposed monkeys during long-term abstinence. Methods: This study introduced an improved sucrose preference test (iSPT) to assess natural reward seeking and consumption in monkeys with long-term abstinence after methamphetamine (METH) use. The test was administered to sixteen naive monkeys and five METH exposed monkeys that had been abstinent for at least 3 months. Results: METH exposed monkeys showed a lower sucrose preference score in both the iSPT (z = -2.10, p = 0.036) and the sucrose preference test (z = -2.61, p = 0.009). The sucrose preference score was significantly correlated with the latency of the establishment of stable sucrose-preference (r = -0.76, df = 46, p < 0.001) but not with the other variables. Furthermore, water-sucrose switch latency and switch times were significantly negatively correlated (r = -0.50, df = 20, p = 0.02). Previous theoretical studies have revealed that high-spin states possess flatter potential energy surfaces than low-spin states in reactions involving iron(IV)-oxo species of cytochrome P450 enzymes (P450s), nonheme enzymes, or biomimetic complexes. Therefore, actively utilizing high-spin states to enhance challenging chemical transformations, such as C-H bond activation, represents an intriguing research avenue. However, the inherent instability of high-spin states relative to low-spin states in pre-reaction complexes often hinders their accessibility around the transition state, especially in heme systems with strong ligand fields. Counterintuitively, our investigation of the metabolic hydroxylation of paclitaxel by human CYP2C8 using a hybrid quantum mechanics and molecular mechanics (QM/MM) approach showed that the high-spin sextet state exhibits unusually high stability, when the reaction follows a secondary reaction pathway leading to 6β-hydroxypaclitaxel. We thoroughly analyzed the factors contributing to the enhanced stabilization of the high-spin state, and the knowledge obtained could be instrumental in designing competent biomimetic catalysts and biocatalysts for C-H bond activation. α -1 antitrypsin (A1AT) is a 52 kDa acute-phase glycoprotein belonging to the serine protease inhibitor superfamily (SERPIN). It is primarily synthesized by hepatocytes and to a lesser extent by monocytes, macrophages, intestinal epithelial cells, and bronchial epithelial cells. A1AT is encoded by SERPINA1 locus, also known as PI locus, highly polymorphic with at least 100 allelic variants described and responsible for different A1AT serum levels and function. A1AT inhibits a variety of serine proteinases, but its main target is represented by Neutrophil Elastase (NE). However, recent attention has been directed towards its immune-regulatory and homeostatic activities. A1AT exerts immune-regulatory effects on different cell types involved in innate and adaptive immunity. Additionally, it plays a role in metal and lipid metabolism, contributing to homeostasis. An adequate comprehension of these mechanisms could support the use of A1AT augmentation therapy in many disorders characterized by a chronic immune response. The aim of this review is to provide an up-to-date understanding of the molecular mechanisms and regulatory pathways responsible for immune-regulatory and homeostatic activities of A1AT. Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a severe subtype of hemorrhagic stroke. The molecular mechanisms of its secondary brain damage remain obscure. To investigate the alterations in gene and metabolite levels following SAH, we construct the transcriptome and metabolome profiles of the rat cerebral cortex post-SAH using whole transcriptome sequencing and untargeted metabolomics assays. Transcriptomic analysis indicated that there were 982 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and 540 differentially expressed metabolites (DEMs) between the sham group and SAH 1d, and 292 DEGs and 254 DEMs between SAH 1d and SAH 7d. Most notably, DEGs were predominantly involved in the activation of immune and inflammatory pathways, particularly the Complement and coagulation cascades, TNF signaling pathway, and NOD-like receptor signaling pathway. Metabolic analysis revealed that the metabolic pathways of Arginine and proline, Arachidonic acid, Folate biosynthesis, Pyrimidine, and Cysteine and methionine were remarkably affected after SAH. Metabolites of the above pathways are closely associated not only with immune inflammation but also with oxidative stress, endothelial cell damage, and blood-brain barrier disruption. This study provides new insights into the underlying pathologic mechanisms of secondary brain injury after SAH and further characterization of these aberrant signals could enable their application as potential therapeutic targets for SAH. Long-term encampment has become a reality for a large portion of the forcibly displaced population of the contemporary world, given the inadequacies and limitations of the conventional durable solutions to forced displacement. However, encampment is principally a temporary arrangement that prevents long-term programming in camps, making long-term encampment contradictory and an arena of uncertainty, misery, and despair for the camp dwellers. It is rather more rational to admit long-term encampment as a reality and act on it as it involves unjustifiable humanitarian costs. Objective: To analyze patient-reported outcomes, cognitive function, and persistent symptoms in patients with neurologic post-acute sequelae of SARSCoV- 2 infection (Neuro-PASC) in Colombia. Methods: We recruited patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 and PASC symptoms lasting more than 6 weeks at the CES University and CES Clinic (Medellín, Colombia). We included 50 post-hospitalization Neuro-PASC (PNP) and 50 non-hospitalized Neuro-PASC (NNP) patients. Long-COVID symptoms, cognitive (NIH Toolbox v2.1-Spanish for 18+), patient-reported (PROMIS) outcomes, and relevant medical history were evaluated. Statistical analyses were performed via generalized linear models. Results: Overall, brain fog (60%), myalgia (42%), and numbness or tingling (41%) were the most common neurological symptoms, while fatigue (74%), sleep problems (46%), and anxiety (44%) were the most common non-neurological symptoms. Compared to NNP, PNP patients showed a higher frequency of abnormal neurological exam findings (64% vs. 42%, p = 0.028). Both groups had impaired quality of life (QoL) in domains of cognition, fatigue, anxiety depression and sleep disturbance, and performed worse on processing speed and attention than a normative population. In addition, NNP patients performed worse on executive function than PNP patients (T-score 42.6 vs. 48.5, p = 0.012). PASC symptoms of anxiety and depression were associated with worse QoL and cognitive outcomes. Brain fog and fatigue remained persistent symptoms across all durations of Long COVID. Conclusion: Our findings highlight the high incidence and heterogeneity of the neurologic symptoms and impacts of Long COVID even more than 2 years from disease onset. Introduction: Physical activity is known to enhance cognitive functioning across the lifespan, yet the effects of sedentary behaviors on cognitive functioning remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to determine how an acute daily bout of prolonged sitting influenced working memory, inhibitory control, and cerebral oxygenation (HbO2) in a sample of healthy young adults. Methods: Forty-one young adults (aged between 18-30 years of age) participated in an exploratory design intended to establish a control standard for determining how an acute 2-h bout of prolonged sitting influenced working memory, inhibitory control, and HbO2. The Flanker task, Simon task, and Delayed Match to Sample were utilized to assess inhibitory control and working memory, respectively, while functional near-infrared spectroscopy assessed HbO2. Participants were further subdivided into a physically active (Active) group and a physically inactive group (Inactive) based on self-reported physical activity participation. Paired sample t-tests were used to determine any changes in workingmemory, inhibitory control, and HbO2 frompre-to-post and between groups. Results: There were no differences in working memory or inhibitory control reaction time following prolonged sitting for the entire sample (p > 0.05) or between activity groups (p > 0.05). There was a significant reduction in Flanker accuracy post-prolonged sitting for both the congruent (p < 0.05) and incongruent (p < 0.05) conditions. For those in the Inactive group, there was no difference in HbO2 concentrations post-prolonged sitting. Those in the Active group exhibited a significant reduction in HbO2 during the Flanker Task following prolonged sitting (p < 0.05). Conclusions: An acute bout of daily prolonged sitting significantly reduced HbO2 in physically active young adults but not in inactive young adults. We recommend that future studies examining the effects of sedentary behaviors on microvasculature include an objective assessment of physical fitness and a direct measure of physical activity patterns and consider these values when assigning participants to the intervention condition. Multiple myeloma (MM) is a hematological cancer marked by plasma cell accumulation in the bone marrow. Despite treatment advancements, MM remains incurable in most patients. MM-associated immune dysregulation fosters disease progression, prompting research into immunotherapy to combat the disease. An area of immunotherapy investigation is the design of myeloma vaccine therapy to reverse tumor-associated immune suppression and elicit tumor-specific immune responses to effectively target MM cells. This article reviews vaccine immunotherapy for MM, categorizing findings by antigen type and delivery method. Introduction: ECG Derived Respiration (EDR) are a set of methods used for extracting the breathing rate from the Electrocardiogram (ECG). Recent studies revealed a tight connection between breathing rate and more specifically the breathing patterns during sleep and several related pathologies. Yet, while breathing rate and more specifically the breathing pattern is recognised as a vital sign it is less employed than Electroencephalography (EEG) and heart rate in sleep and polysomnography studies. Methods: This study utilised open-access data from the ISRUC sleep database to test a novel spectral-based EDR technique (scEDR). In contrast to previous approaches, the novel method emphasizes spectral continuity and not only the power of the different spectral peaks. scEDR is then compared against a more widely used spectral EDR method that selects the frequency with the highest power as the respiratory frequency (Max Power EDR). Results: scEDR yielded improved performance against the more widely used Max Power EDR in terms of accuracy across all sleep stages and the whole sleep. This study further explores the breathing rate across sleep stages, providing evidence in support of a putative sleep stage "REM0" which was previously proposed based on analysis of the Heart Rate Variability (HRV) but not yet widely discussed. Most importantly, this study observes that the frequency distribution of the heart rate during REM0 is closer to REM than other NREM periods even though most of REM0 was previously classified as NREM sleep by sleep experts following either the original or revised sleep staging criteria. Discussion: Based on the results of the analysis, this study proposes scEDR as a potential low-cost and non-invasive method for extracting the breathing rate using the heart rate during sleep with further studies required to validate its accuracy in awake subjects. In this study, the autonomic balance across different sleep stages, including REM0, was examined using HRV as a metric. Background: Breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) frequently occurs after axillary lymph node dissection and remains incurable even with lymphaticovenular anastomosis. Exercise interventions have emerged as a potential non-pharmacological management approach. However, standardized exercise recommendations tailored to BCRL patients are lacking. Purpose: This study evaluated the impact of high and low compliance exercise interventions, aligned with ACSM recommendations, on quality of life (QOL), shoulder range of motion (ROM), and arm volume in BCRL patients. It further aimed to determine the optimal exercise dosage, assessed via the FITT (frequency, intensity, time, type) principle, that maximizes health benefits for BCRL patients. Methods: Adhering to the PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews and meta- analyses, we conducted a comprehensive literature search in various databases, including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science, encompassing the period from the inception of these databases to December 2023. We extracted data on exercise form, frequency, intensity, duration, repetitions, and sets from the identified studies. Subsequently, a meta-analysis and review were conducted. The exercise interventions were evaluated based on ACSM recommendations and categorized as either high or low compliance with ACSM standards. Fixed or random effects models were employed to compare outcomes across study subgroups with comparable results. Additionally, funnel plot analyses, sensitivity analyses, and Egger's and Begg's tests were conducted to evaluate the potential for bias. Results: 15 studies encompassing 863 patients with BCRL were analyzed. Eleven studies exhibited high ACSM compliance, while four demonstrated low ACSM compliance. Regarding QOL, the overall standard mean difference (SMD) was 0.13 (95% CI: -1.07, 1.33). Specifically, the SMD for the high-adherence subgroup was 0.91 (95% CI: 0.33, 1.49; p = 0.002). For ROM, the overall SMD was 1.21 (95% CI: -0.19, 2.61). For arm volume, the overall SMD was -0.06 (95% CI: -0.22, 0.10). QOL results differed significantly in the high-adherence subgroup, whereas no significant effect on ROM or arm volume was observed. Conclusion: The study revealed significant QOL improvements in patients with high ACSM compliance, contrasted with those with low compliance. Conversely, no notable changes in ROM or arm volume were observed. Notably, the high adherence group tended to show better ROM during exercise and stable arm volume. Objective: Aging-related changes and caregiver burden may increase the risk for sleep disturbances among older caregivers, yet few studies have examined the prevalence of insomnia and daytime sleepiness in this group. We examined the relationship of caregiver status with insomnia and daytime sleepiness among persons of advanced age (>75 years of age). Design: Cross-sectional. Setting: Community. Participants: Yale Precipitating Events Project participants (n=383, mean age 84.4 years, 67% female, 12% African American, 25% caregivers). Measurements: Caregivers were persons who reported caring for another person in the past week or caring for/helping a friend or relative >4 times in the past month. We examined the correlates of caregiver status, including demographic (age, sex, race/ethnicity, education, marital status), psychosocial (living alone, Medicaid eligibility, depressive symptoms, social support, hours volunteered), and physical (obesity, chronic conditions, medication use, self-rated health status, physical activity, functional disability, cognitive impairment) factors. We used the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) to establish insomnia severity (ISI score 0-28) or clinically significant insomnia symptoms (ISI ≥8). We used the Epworth Sleepiness Scale to establish daytime sleepiness (ESS score 0-24) or hypersomnia (ESS ≥10). In nonparametric multivariable regression analyses, we examined the relationship of caregiver status with insomnia or daytime sleepiness. Results: Compared to non-caregivers, caregivers were younger, more educated, less likely to be Medicaid eligible and had lower rates of depression, obesity, poor self-rated health, low physical activity, functional disability, and cognitive impairment. Mean ISI and ESS scores were in the normal range and similar among non-caregivers and caregivers (ISI scores of 6.9±5.6 and 6.9±5.4, and ESS scores of 6.4±4.7 and 6.1±4.3, in non-caregivers and caregivers, respectively). Multivariable-adjusted models demonstrated no significant differences in ISI and ESS scores between non-caregivers and caregivers (regression coefficients for ISI and ESS scores of -0.01 [95% CI = -1.58, 1.21] and -0.10 [-1.05, 1.21], respectively). Conclusion: When compared to older non-caregivers, older caregivers had more advantageous demographic, psychosocial, and physical profiles and had similar levels of insomnia and daytime sleepiness on standardized questionnaires. Little is known either about either physical activity patterns, or other lifestyle-related prevention measures in heart transplantation (HTx) recipients. The history of HTx started more than 50 years ago but there are still no guidelines or position papers highlighting the features of prevention and rehabilitation after HTx. The aims of this scientific statement are (i) to explain the importance of prevention and rehabilitation after HTx, and (ii) to promote the factors (modifiable/non-modifiable) that should be addressed after HTx to improve patients' physical capacity, quality of life and survival. All HTx team members have their role to play in the care of these patients and multidisciplinary prevention and rehabilitation programmes designed for transplant recipients. HTx recipients are clearly not healthy disease-free subjects yet they also significantly differ from heart failure patients or those who are supported with mechanical circulatory support. Therefore, prevention and rehabilitation after HTx both need to be specifically tailored to this patient population and be multidisciplinary in nature. Prevention and rehabilitation programmes should be initiated early after HTx and continued during the entire post-transplant journey. Two experiments were conducted to investigate the differences in perceptual representations among multilingual individuals. In Experiment 1, the immediate sentence-picture verification paradigm was used to investigate perceptual representations in the working memory stage. The results suggest a match effect within the first language (Cantonese), but not within the second language (Mandarin) or the third language (English), showing perceptual representations only in first language comprehension. In Experiment 2, the delayed sentencepicture verification paradigm was used to investigate perceptual representations in long-term memory. Similarly, the results suggest a match effect within the first language (Mandarin), but not within the second language (English). The findings of both experiments suggest that the first language was perceptually represented, regardless of whether it was Cantonese or Mandarin, regardless of the processing in working memory or long-term memory. No evidence was found for perceptual representations in the later-learned languages, regardless of high or low proficiency. Research on slow-wave sleep (SWS) began almost a century ago, not long after the discovery of electroencephalography. From maintaining homeostasis to memory function, the pivotal role of SWS in health has been established. The elucidation of its mechanisms and functions is directly related to the fundamental question of why people sleep. This comprehensive review first summarizes the basic science of SWS from anatomical and physiological aspects. It describes the fundamental mechanisms and functions of SWS, including hormonal regulation, developmental changes in SWS across the lifespan, and associations between SWS and optimal physical, psychological, and cognitive functions. Next, the relationship between SWS and physical and mental disorders, for which increasing knowledge has accumulated in recent years, is discussed from both research and clinical perspectives. Conditions such as memory impairment, sleep-disordered breathing, neurodevelopmental disorders, and various psychiatric disorders are of concern. The relationship between SWS and the glymphatic system, which is responsible for waste clearance in the brain, has also been explored, highlighting the potential neuroprotective role of SWS. Finally, we discuss the future direction of the field regarding whether interventions in SWS can improve health. We also address the problem of the inconsistent definitions of SWS, slow-wave activity, and slow oscillations. This review emphasizes the importance of discussing SWS from both macro- and microarchitectural perspectives and highlights its potential clinical and research impacts. Introduction: Victims of child abuse have an elevated risk of developing mental health issues later in life. Several variables have been suggested as mediators of this correlation, but little is known about the possible influence of alexithymia. Alexithymia is a sub-clinical personality trait that manifests as difficulties recognizing and verbalizing emotions. Methods: In this study, two separate meta-analyses were conducted using questionnaire data, and Pearson correlations for overall effects were estimated. Results: The correlation between child abuse and alexithymia showed to be significant (r = .26), as did the correlation between alexithymia and general psychopathology (r = .44). Further analyses revealed no indication for possible publication bias. When investigating differences between various subtypes of child maltreatment, each subtype significantly correlated with alexithymia. Emotional abuse, emotional neglect, and physical neglect had stronger correlations than physical and sexual abuse. Discussion: These results suggest that alexithymia plays a mediating role, at least in part, in the relationship between experiences of child abuse and general psychopathology in adulthood. This study sought to characterize cognitive functioning in patients with neurological post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (Neuro-PASC) and investigate the association of subjective and objective functioning along with other relevant factors with prior hospitalization for COVID-19. Participants were 106 adult outpatients with Neuro-PASC referred for abbreviated neuropsychological assessment after scoring worse than one standard deviation below the mean on cognitive screening. Of these patients, 23 had been hospitalized and 83 had not been hospitalized for COVID-19. Subjective cognitive impairment was evaluated with the self-report cognition subscale from the Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System. Objective cognitive performance was assessed using a composite score derived from multiple standardized cognitive measures. Other relevant factors, including fatigue and depression/mood symptoms, were assessed via the Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System. Subjective cognitive impairment measures exceeded the minimal difficulties noted on objective tests and were associated with depression/mood symptoms as well as fatigue. However, fatigue independently explained the most variance (17.51%) in patients’ subjective cognitive ratings. When adjusting for fatigue and time since onset of COVID-19 symptoms, neither objective nor subjective impairment were associated with prior hospitalization for COVID-19. Findings suggest that abbreviated neuropsychological assessment may not reveal objective difficulties beyond initial cognitive screening in patients with NeuroPASC. However, subjective cognitive concerns may persist irrespective of hospitalization status, and are likely influenced by fatigue and depression/ mood symptoms. This study aims to identify literacy competencies, self-efficacy, and Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK) among teacher leaders (TL) as the foundation for developing a model of sustained professional development. The survey involved 153 respondents, TL at the junior high school level in Riau and Riau Islands. Instruments were used to measure literacy skills (environmental, numerical, digital) and TPK employed multiple-choice tests. The questions underwent item analysis, piloted with 30 respondents. A questionnaire measured self-efficacy, the role of TL, and the implementation of the Emancipated Curriculum. Descriptive data analysis determined demographic characteristics and the average competence of TL. Inferential analysis to identify relationships between variables used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Lisrel 8.80 software. Research results reveal that the competence level of TL (literacy, TPK, and self-efficacy) ranges from moderate (60.60) to high (91.20). Based on SEM analysis, the developed model meets the criteria as a well-fitting model. Validation results show that all loading factors are > 0.5, t statistics > 1.96. This study recommends the development of a TL Professional Development model with the acronym MOST (mentor, observe, support, take action) as stages for their professional development to fulfill the mission of moving, acting, and driving the implementation of the Emancipated Curriculum in Indonesia.
