Transforming the food system while addressing climate change requires proactive measures based on quantitative projections of anticipated future conditions. A key component of the food system that must be considered during this transformation is food safety, which is the focus of this paper. Milk safety has been selected as a case study. Future milk contamination levels in Europe, in terms of total bacterial counts, are evaluated under various climate change scenarios. Projections from multiple climate models are integrated into a data-driven milk contamination model, validated using data from Malta, Spain, and Belgium. The modeling framework accounts for variability among dairy farms and the inherent uncertainties in climate projections. Results are presented through geographical heatmaps, highlighting coastal and southern areas such as Portugal, Western Spain, Southern Italy, and Western France as regions expected to face the highest bacterial counts. The analysis underlines the significant roles of humidity and wind speed, alongside temperature. It also examines compliance with the regulatory threshold for raw milk, revealing an increased frequency of summer weeks exceeding the threshold of 100,000 colony-forming units. Based on this analysis, regions are classified into low-risk, high-risk, and emerging-risk categories. This classification can guide the selection of farm strategies aimed at meeting future food safety standards. Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKis) represent a fundamental therapeutic tool for the treatment of patients with immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. Although JAKis are often considered a homogeneous class of drugs whose members are thought to be largely interchangeable, there are significant differences in their efficacy and safety profiles. This narrative review analyzes the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic differences among JAKIs, highlighting their clinical relevance based on the most recent available evidence. The article aims to provide rheumatologists, gastroenterologists and dermatologists with practical guidance for choosing the most appropriate JAKi for each patient, given the lack of evidence-based recommendations on this topic, to improve clinical outcomes. Due to its preferential action on JAK1, intestinal metabolization and proven absence of impact on male fertility, filgotinib may be characterized by an improved benefit/risk ratio compared with other less selective JAKis. Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare and highly heterogeneous chronic autoimmune disease characterized by multi-organ and tissue fibrosis, often accompanied by a poor prognosis and high mortality rates. The primary pathogenic mechanisms of SSc are considered to involve tissue fibrosis, autoimmune dysfunction, and microvascular abnormalities. Recent studies have shed light on the gut microbiota (GM) and metabolites in SSc patients, revealing their association with gastrointestinal symptoms and disease phenotypes. However, further elucidation is needed on the specific mechanisms underlying the interactions between GM, metabolites, and the immune system and their roles in the pathogenesis of SSc. This review outlines the characteristics of GM and metabolites in SSc patients, exploring their interrelationships and analyzing their correlations with the clinical phenotypes of SSc. The findings indicate that while the α-diversity of GM in SSc patients resembles that of healthy individuals, notable differences exist in the β-diversity and the abundance of specific bacterial genera, which are closely linked to gastrointestinal symptoms. Moreover, alterations in the levels of amino acids and lipid metabolites in SSc patients are prominently observed and significantly associated with clinical phenotypes. Furthermore, this review delves into the potential immunopathological mechanisms of GM and metabolites in SSc, emphasizing the critical role of interactions between GM, metabolites, and the immune system in comprehending the immunopathological processes of SSc. Introduction: Conventional chemotherapy treatment is commonly linked to significant side effects due to high therapeutic doses. In this regard, nanoformulations with chemotherapeutic medications hold promise in enhancing drug effectiveness through the reduction of therapeutic dosages, thereby mitigating the potential for adverse side effects. Because of numerous applications in the biomedical arena, there has been a rising interest in developing an environmentally acceptable, long-lasting, and affordable technique for the production of gold nanoparticles. In this particular context, the incorporation of plant extracts in the production of metallic nanoparticles has garnered the interest of numerous scholars. Here, we report the synthesis of gold particles by the green method using Cannabis sativa L. leaf extract and their conjugation with doxorubicin. Methods: The gold nanoparticles were synthesized by using Cannabis sativa extract and were characterized with various biophysical techniques. Subsequently, gold nanoparticles were conjugated with doxorubicin and their efficacy was tested on A549 cells. Results and Discussion: The biogenic synthesis of gold nanoparticles was ascertained through an absorption peak at a wavelength of 524 nm, and it was shifted to 527 nm when conjugated with doxorubicin. Nanoparticles were found to be stable exhibiting a zeta potential value of −20.1 mV, and it changed to −12.7 mV when loaded with doxorubicin. The hydrodynamic diameter of nanoparticles was determined to be 45.64 nm and it was increased to 58.95 nm when conjugated with the drug. The average size of nanoparticles analyzed by TEM was found to be approximately 17.2 nm, while it was 23.5 nm in the case of drug-nanoconjugate. Moreover, there was a significant amelioration in the antiproliferative potential of doxorubicin against lung cancer A549 cells when delivered with gold nanocarrier, which was evident by the lower IC50 and IC75 values of drug-nanoconjugates in comparison to drug alone. Furthermore, the inhibitory effect of drug-nanoconjugates and drug alone was characterized by alteration in the cell morphology, nuclear condensation, increased production of reactive oxygen species, abrogation of mitochondrial membrane potential, and enhanced caspase activities in A549 cells. The study replicates a preliminary report from 2019 on therelationship between body image and persistence. Purpose: The aim of our study was to analyze the associations between body image, persistence, and body weight stereotypes. Patients and methods: A total of 750 individuals were recruited for the study. The research was carried out in computer labs. The procedure consisted of psychological questionnaires (Persistence Scale, The Body Esteem Scale, Perceived Weight Stigma Questionnaire, Weight Bias Internalization Scale, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Formal Characteristics of Behavior – Temperament Inventory, and NEO-PI-R) and The Maze Test (a computer tool). After completing the Simple Maze Test, saliva samples were collected. Next, the subjects proceeded to the laboratory where anthropometric and body composition measurements were taken. The hormone levels (cortisol and dehydroepiandrosterone) in the collected saliva samples were analyzed via ELISA to determine stress. Results: Body image and persistence are related variables. They are associated with the internalization of stereotypes and perceived stigma related to body weight. These associations are differentially shaped according to sex and the regularity of body weight. In women, a stronger association of these variables with body image was observed, while in men, the relationship with body image was weaker, with a stronger association shown by perceived weight-related stigma. In the group of participants with a BMI<18.5, there was no significant association between the internalization of stereotypes and the analyzed variables. This relationship appeared in the group of subjects with a normal body weight and was strongest in the group of participants who were overweight or obese. Perceived weight-related stigma was most strongly associated with body image in the group with BMI<18.5 kg/m2 and with persistence in the group with BMI>25 kg/m2. Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome presents as a complex of symptoms and signs encompassing nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and hot water bathing behavior, most typically in a heavy cannabis user. Its presentation is frequently associated with hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis activation with stress and weight loss. Recent investigation has identified five statistically significant mutations in patients distinct from those of frequent cannabis users who lack the symptoms, affecting the TRPV1 receptor, two dopamine genes, the cytochrome P450 2C9 enzyme that metabolizes tetrahydrocannabinol, and the adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette transporter. The syndrome is associated with escalating intake of high potency cannabis, or alternatively, other agonists of the cannabinoid-1 receptor including synthetic cannabinoids. Some patients develop environmental triggers in scents or foods that suggest classical conditioned responses. Various alternative "causes" are addressed and refuted in the text, including exposure to pesticides, neem oil or azadirachtin. Nosological confusion of cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome has arisen with cyclic vomiting syndrome, whose presentation and pathophysiology are clearly distinct. The possible utilization of non-intoxicating antiemetic cannabis components in cannabis for treatment of cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome is addressed, along with future research suggestions in relation to its genetic foundation and possible metabolomic signatures. Sprint performance is a critical factor in soccer. While previous studies have extensively explored the biomechanical, physiological, and metabolic determinants of sprinting, the impact of anthropometric variables in team sports contexts, especially soccer, remains underexplored. This study aims to investigate the influence of anthropometric and mechanical variables on sprint performance in young soccer players. Fifty-eight young soccer players were evaluated in anthropometry and a 30-meter (m) sprint using radar technology. Split times in 5, 15, and 30 m were determined, in addition to the assessment of the force-velocity profile proposed by Morin and Samozino. Results: Key anthropometric variables associated with improved sprint performance included lower-limb muscle mass at distances 5 and 15 m (R 2 = 0.08 and R 2 = 0.09, respectively, both with small effects). Additionally, body composition, particularly a lower % body fat, was crucial across all sprint distances (ES: large). Among the mechanical variables, max power (R 2 = 0.997, ES: large) and maximum velocity (R 2 = 0.553, ES: large) are the mechanical variables that were most strongly associated with sprint performance over distances greater than 30 m. The mammalian gastrointestinal tract quickly becomes densely populated with foreign microorganisms shortly after birth, thereby establishing a lifelong presence of a microbial community. These commensal gut microbiota serve various functions, such as providing nutrients, processing ingested compounds, maintaining gut homeostasis, and shaping the intestinal structure in the host. Dysbiosis, which is characterized by an imbalance in the microbial community, is closely linked to numerous human ailments and has recently emerged as a key factor in health prognosis. Tuberculosis (TB), a highly contagious and potentially fatal disease, presents a pressing need for improved methods of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies. Thus, we aim to explore the latest developments on how the host's immune defenses, inflammatory responses, metabolic pathways, and nutritional status collectively impact the host's susceptibility to or resilience against Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. The review addresses how the fluctuations in the gut microbiota not only affect the equilibrium of these physiological processes but also indirectly influence the host's capacity to resist M. tuberculosis. This work highlights the central role of the gut microbiota in the host–microbe interactions and provides novel insights for the advancement of preventative and therapeutic approaches against tuberculosis. Introduction: In patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), the increased risk of concomitant type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) is an important contributor to increased mortality and decreased quality of life; however, the mechanisms and pathogenetic factors remain unknown. Methods: In this study, we aimed to assess the risk factors for T2D in patients with RA. We recruited 206 healthy controls and 488 patients with RA, 160 of whom had comorbid T2D. General clinical information, disease characteristics, and circulating lymphocyte levels detected using modified flow cytometry were collected from all participants. Logistic regression models adjusted for confounders were fitted to estimate the risk factors of T2D in patients with RA. Results: The incidence of RA in patients with T2D was 15.6%. Patients with RA and T2D had a longer disease duration, higher BMI, and a higher incidence of hypertension and a family history of diabetes than those with RA but no T2D. The absolute numbers of T helper 2 cell (Th2) and Regulatory T cells (Treg) decreased in patients with RA and T2D, which led to an increase in the ratios of Th1/Th2 and Th17/ Treg cells. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that a family history of diabetes, a higher incidence of hypertension, higher neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) levels, lower platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) levels, and fewer circulating Th2 and Treg cells were associated with an increased risk of T2D in patients with RA. Discussion: The levels of peripheral lymphocytes, especially Th2 and Treg cells, are closely related to the occurrence of T2D in patients with RA; however, the influence of body mass index (BMI), family history of diabetes, and systemic inflammation should not be ignored. Background: In both high- and low-income countries, including Ethiopia, overweight and obesity have emerged as public health issues of the 21st century. Hence, obtaining conclusive evidence concerning the factors that influence adults' body mass index is important. Therefore, using representative data, our study sought to provide solid evidence on factors influencing overweight and obesity among adults in Ethiopia. Methods: The 2016 Ethiopia Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS), a dataset composed of a nationally representative sample of the survey, served as the basis for the study. Both descriptive and analytic findings were produced using STATA version 14. The data collection were conducted from January to June 2016. A total sample of 39,749 adults, 18 years and older, were included. Predictors were assessed using multivariable ordinal logistic regression analysis, and the results were presented as an adjusted proportional ratio (POR) with a 95% confidence interval. Statistical significance was declared at a p-value of <0.05. Results: Overall, the magnitude of overweight and obesity among adults in Ethiopia was 8.5% (95% CI: 8.2% to 8.7%) and 2.9% (95% CI: 2.7% to 3.1%), respectively. Predictor variables such as smoking (POR = 0.53, 95% CI: 0.42-- 0.67); being female (POR = 1.21, 95% CI: 1.13--1.30); being married (POR = 1.91, 95% CI: 1.26--2.90); having a secondary education (POR = 1.42, 95% CI: 2.23-- 1.64); having a diploma and above education (POR = 1.78, 95% CI: 1.44--2.21); having a poorer (POR = 1.22, 95% CI: 1.13--1.31), middle (POR = 1.30, 95% CI: 1.20--1.40), richer (POR = 1.35, 95% CI: 1.25--1.47), and richest (POR = 3.13, 95% CI: 2.79--3.51) wealth index rating; and having a rural residence (POR = 0.48, 95% CI: 0.43--0.54) were significantly associated with overweight and obesity. Conclusions: Overall, 8.5% and 2.9% of Ethiopian adults were overweight and obese, respectively. Factors such as smoking, sex, marital status, educational status, wealth index, residence, and region were significantly associated with overweight and obesity among adult households. As a result, enhancing lifestyle modifications is enormous, and it is necessary to have more tangible evidence concerning the factors influencing body mass index utilizing more representative data from local and global. Endometriosis (EMs) is a prevalent chronic gynecological condition that depends on estrogen, marked by the presence of active endometrial tissue (glands and stroma) outside the uterus. Although pathologically benign, it exhibits biological behaviors such as invasion and metastasis akin to malignant tumors. Endometriosis-associated ovarian carcinoma (EAOC), arising from malignant transformation of EMs, poses significant clinical challenges. However, the mechanisms underlying EAOC pathogenesis remain incompletely understood, with a lack of reliable biomarkers for early diagnosis and personalized treatment strategies. Considering the significant number of EMs patients and the extended period during which malignant transformation can occur, EAOC deserves significant attention. Current research both domestically and internationally indicates that the pathogenesis of EAOC is complex, involving genetic mutations, immune microenvironment, oxidative stress, epigenetic changes, and related areas. Fungi and bacteria can be found coexisting in a wide variety of environments. The combination of their physical and molecular interactions can result in a broad range of outcomes for each partner, from competition to cooperative relationships. Most of these interactions can also be found in the human gastrointestinal tract. The gut microbiota is essential for humans, helping the assimilation of food components as well as the prevention of pathogen invasions through host immune system modulation and the production of beneficial metabolites such as short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Several factors, including changes in diet habits due to the progressive Westernization of the lifestyle, are linked to the onset of dysbiosis statuses that impair the correct balance of the gut environment. It is therefore crucial to explore the interactions between commensal and diet-derived microorganisms and their influence on host health. Investigating these interactions through co-cultures between humanand fermented food-derived lactobacilli and yeasts led us to understand how the strains' growth yield and their metabolic products rely on the nature and concentration of the species involved, producing either cooperative or competitive dynamics. Moreover, single cultures of yeasts and lactobacilli proved to be ideal candidates for developing immune-enhancing products, given their ability to induce trained immunity in blood-derived human monocytes in vitro. Conversely, co-cultures as well as mixtures of yeasts and lactobacilli have been shown to induce an anti-inflammatory response on the same immune cells in terms of cytokine profiles and activation surface markers, opening new possibilities in the design of probiotic and dietary therapies. Introduction: Pregnancy toxemia (PT) is a nutritional metabolic disease of ewes in late pregnancy. This study aimed to reveal the relationship between rumen microbiota and PT. Methods: We selected 10 healthy ewes (CON) and 10 pregnancy toxemia ewes (PT) at 135 days of gestation according to the blood ß-hydroxybutyrate (BHBA), glucose (Glu) concentrations and clinical symptoms. Blood and rumen fluid were collected before morning feeding to determine serum biochemical indices and rumen fermentation parameters. Total DNA of rumen fluid was extracted and the V3-V4 regions of 16S rRNA were amplified by PCR for high-throughput sequencing. Results: The results showed that the serum concentrations of Glu, total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), uric acid (UA), creatinine (Cr), acetate, propionate, butyrate, and microbial crude protein (MCP) were decreased (p < 0.05) and the concentrations of BHBA, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), acetate to propionate ratio (A/P), and ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N)were higher (p < 0.05) in PT ewes than those in CON ewes. 16S rRNA analysis showed the differences of ß-diversity were observed in rumen microbiota between CON and PT ewes. At the phylum level, the relative abundance of Bacteroidota and Proteobacteria were higher (p < 0.01), while Firmicutes was lower (p < 0.01) in PT ewes. At the genus level, the relative Prevotella, Butyrivibrio, Ruminococcus, Lachnospiraceae_AC2044_group, Lachnospiraceae_XPB1014_group, Lachnospiraceae_ND3007_group, and Oribacterium were lower (p < 0.01) in PT ewes. Meanwhile, the relative abundance of Oribacterium, Butyrivibrio, Ruminococcus, and Lachnospiraceae_AC2044_group were positively correlated (p < 0.01) with Glu, INS, acetate, propionate, and butyrate, and negatively correlated (p < 0.01) with BHBA, P, GC, AST, and A/P. Discussion: In conclusion, the decrease of Oribacterium, Butyrivibrio, Ruminococcus, and Lachnospiraceae_AC2044_group in the rumen of PT ewes reduced the concentrations of volatile fatty acids (acetate, propionate, and butyrate) and serum Glu, and increased BHBA concentration, indicating that the differences in rumen bacteria genera were related to pregnancy toxemia of ewes. Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) poses a global health threat, with the oral microbiome increasingly implicated in its pathogenesis. This study leverages Mendelian Randomization (MR) to explore causal links between oral microbiota and CRC using data from the China National GeneBank and Biobank Japan. By integrating multi-omics approaches, we aim to uncover mechanisms by which the microbiome influences cellular metabolism and cancer development. Methods: We analyzed microbiome profiles from 2017 tongue and 1915 saliva samples, and GWAS data for 6692 CRC cases and 27178 controls. Significant bacterial taxa were identified via MR analysis. Single-cell RNA sequencing and enrichment analyses elucidated underlying pathways, and drug predictions identified potential therapeutics. Results: MR identified 19 bacterial taxa significantly associated with CRC. Protective effects were observed in taxa like RUG343 and Streptococcus_umgs_2425, while HOT-345_umgs_976 and W5053_sp000467935_mgs_712 increased CRC risk. Single-cell RNA sequencing revealed key pathways, including JAK-STAT signaling and tyrosine metabolism. Drug prediction highlighted potential therapeutics like Menadione Sodium Bisulfite and Raloxifene. Conclusion: This study establishes the critical role of the oral microbiome in colorectal cancer development, identifying specific microbial taxa linked to CRC risk. Following the legalization of recreational Cannabis in Canada in 2018, the associated waste, including Cannabis roots, has significantly increased. Cannabis roots, comprising 30%-50% of the total plant, are often discarded despite their historical use in Ayurvedic medicine for treating inflammatory and infectious disorders. This study evaluates the phytochemical and therapeutic properties of Cannabis root extracts from a high tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, low cannabidiolic acid cultivar (variety Alien Gorilla Glue). We performed ultra highperformance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (UPLCQTOF-MS) to identify the chemical components of the Cannabis roots. Extracts using water, ethanol and acid-base solvents were tested for antioxidant activity through free radical scavenging, metal chelation, and lipoperoxidation inhibition assays. Mitochondrial membrane protection was assessed using flow cytometry with the MitoPerOx probe in THP-1 monocytic leukemia cells. Anti-inflammatory potential was evaluated by measuring interleukin-6 levels in lipopolysaccharidestimulated THP-1 cells. Bactericidal/fungicidal efficacy against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans was determined using the p-iodonitrophenyltetrazolium assay. Additionally, we investigated the anticholinesterase activity of Cannabis root extracts, given the potential role of plant alkaloids in inhibiting cholinesterase, an enzyme targeted in Alzheimer's disease treatments. UPLC-QTOF-MS analysis suggested the presence of several phenolic compounds, cannabinoids, terpenoids, amino acids, and nitrogencontaining compounds. Our results indicated significant antioxidant, bactericidal, and anticholinesterase properties of Cannabis root extracts from both soil and hydroponic cultivation. Extracts showed strong antioxidant activity across multiple assays, protected mitochondrial membrane in THP-1 cells, and exhibited anti-inflammatory and bactericidal/fungicidal efficacy. Notably, soilcultivated roots displayed superior anti-inflammatory effects. These findings demonstrate the remarkable antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial activities of Cannabis roots, supporting their traditional uses and challenging their perception as mere waste. Background: The continuous emergence and spread of polymyxin-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii pose a significant global health challenge, necessitating the development of novel therapeutic strategies. Aloe, with its long-standing history of medicinal use, has recently been the subject of substantial research for its efficacy against pathogenic infections. Methods: This study investigates the potential application of anthraquinone components in aloe against polymyxin-resistant A. baumannii by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, in vitro activity assessment, and construction of animal infection models. Results: The findings demonstrate that aloe emodin, emodin, rhein, and their mixtures in equal mass ratios (EAR) exhibit strain-specific antibacterial activities against polymyxin-resistant A. baumannii. Co-administration of EAR with EDTA synergistically and universally enhanced the antibacterial activity and bactericidal efficacy of polymyxins against polymyxin-resistant A. baumannii, while also reducing the frequency of polymyxin-resistant mutations in polymyxinssensitive A. baumannii. Following toxicity assessment on human hepatic and renal cell lines, the combination therapy was applied to skin wounds in mice infected with polymyxin-resistant A. baumannii. Compared to monotherapy, the combination therapy significantly accelerated wound healing and reduced bacterial burden. Background: Previous studies have suggested that gut microbiota (GM) may be involved in the pathogenesis of epilepsy through the microbiota-gut-brain axis (MGBA). However, the causal relationship between GM and different epilepsy subtypes and whether circulating inflammatory proteins act as mediators to participate in epileptogenesis through the MGBA remain unclear. Therefore, it is necessary to identify specific GM associated with epilepsy and its subtypes and explore their underlying inflammatory mechanisms for risk prediction, personalized treatment, and prognostic monitoring of epilepsy. Methods: We hypothesized the existence of a pathway GM-inflammatory proteins-epilepsy. We found genetic variants strongly associated with GM, circulating inflammatory proteins, epilepsy and its subtypes, including generalized and partial seizures, from large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS) summary data and used Multivariate Mendelian Randomization to explore the causal relationship between the three and whether circulating inflammatory proteins play a mediating role in the pathway from GM to epilepsy, with inverse variance weighted (IVW) method as the primary statistical method, supplemented by four methods: MR-Egger, weighted median estimator (WME), Weighted mode and Simple mode. Results: 16 positive and three negative causal associations were found between the genetic liability of GM and epilepsy and its subtypes. There were nine positive and nine negative causal associations between inflammatory proteins and epilepsy and its subtypes. Furthermore, we found that C-X-C motif chemokine 11 (CXCL11) levels mediated the causal association between Genus Family XIII AD3011 group and epilepsy. Conclusion: Our study highlights the possible causal role of specific GM and specific inflammatory proteins in the development of epilepsy and suggests that circulating inflammatory proteins may mediate epileptogenesis through the MGBA. Natural products have been used since ancient times to treat various ailments and have been recognized for many years as a source of therapeutic agents and structural diversity. Plant-derived products have thus served as dietary components but also to maintain a state of wellbeing and health by preventing different diseases both of inflammatory and infective nature. Pentacyclic triterpenoids, particularly ursolic acid (UA) and oleanolic acid (OA), are well-studied natural products endowed with complex biological profiles. In this mini-review, we summarized the most advanced results on extraction methodologies and antimicrobial activity of UA and OA, focusing on their potential role as antimicrobic adjuvants, bacterial biofilm inhibitors and related mechanisms of action. Peripheral neuropathy is a prevalent complication in plasma cell disorders, posing significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. This study presents three cases initially diagnosed with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). Despite initial symptom regression post-immunomodulatory treatment, the patients exhibited progressive neurological deficits. Advanced laboratory evaluation confirmed monoclonal protein presence, yet traditional diagnostic methods, including bone marrow biopsy and flow cytometry, yielded normal results. Utilizing 18F-FDG PET/CT, we identified multiple hypermetabolic vertebral lesions, which upon biopsy, confirmed the diagnosis of plasmacytoma. Our findings underscore the utility of PET/CT as a reliable diagnostic tool for monoclonal gammopathy associated neuropathy, advocating for its consideration in cases with equivocal diagnosis. Cancer dissemination to lymph nodes (LN) is associated with a worse prognosis, increased incidence of distant metastases and reduced response to therapy. The LN microenvironment puts selective pressure on cancer cells, creating cells that can survive in LN as well as providing survival advantages for distant metastatic spread. Additionally, the presence of cancer cells leads to an immunosuppressive LN microenvironment, favoring the evasion of anti-cancer immune surveillance. However, recent studies have also characterized previously unrecognized roles for tumor-draining lymph nodes (TDLNs) in cancer immunotherapy response, including acting as a reservoir for pre-exhausted CD8+ T cells and stem-like CD8+ T cells. In this review, we will discuss the spread of cancer cells through the lymphatic system, the roles of TDLNs in metastasis and anti-cancer immune responses, and the therapeutic opportunities and challenges in targeting LN metastasis. Epilepsy is characterized by abnormal synchronous electrical activity of neurons in the brain. The blood-brain barrier, which is mainly composed of endothelial cells, pericytes, astrocytes and other cell types and is formed by connections between a variety of cells, is the key physiological structure connecting the blood and brain tissue and is critical for maintaining the microenvironment in the brain. Physiologically, the blood-brain barrier controls the microenvironment in the brain mainly by regulating the passage of various substances. Disruption of the blood-brain barrier and increased leakage of specific substances, which ultimately leading to weakened cell junctions and abnormal regulation of ion concentrations, have been observed during the development and progression of epilepsy in both clinical studies and animal models. In addition, disruption of the blood-brain barrier increases drug resistance through interference with drug trafficking mechanisms. The changes in the blood-brain barrier in epilepsy mainly affect molecular pathways associated with angiogenesis, inflammation, and oxidative stress. Depressive states in both healthy individuals and those with major depressive disorder exhibit differences primarily in symptom severity rather than symptom type, suggesting that there is a spectrum of depressive symptoms. The increasing prevalence of mild depression carries lifelong implications, emphasizing its clinical and social significance, which parallels that of moderate depression. Early intervention and psychotherapy have shown effective outcomes in subthreshold depression. Electroencephalography serves as a non-invasive, powerful tool in depression research, with many studies employing it to discover biomarkers and explore underlying mechanisms for the identification and diagnosis of depression. However, the efficacy of these biomarkers in distinguishing various depressive states in healthy individuals and in understanding the associated mechanisms remains uncertain. In our study, we examined the power spectrum density and the region-based phase-locking value in healthy individuals with various depressive states during their resting state. We found significant differences in neural activity, even among healthy individuals. Participants were categorized into high, middle, and low depressive state groups based on their response to a questionnaire, and eyes-open resting-state electroencephalography was conducted. We observed significant differences among the different depressive state groups in theta- and betaband power, as well as correlations in the theta–beta ratio in the frontal lobe and phase-locking connections in the frontal, parietal, and temporal lobes. Standardized low-resolution electromagnetic tomography analysis for source localization comparing the differences in resting-state networks among the three depressive state groups showed significant differences in the frontal and temporal lobes. Objectives: To explore the relationship between estradiol (E2) and the incidence of hyperuricemia (HUA) in adult women and to explore whether glucolipid metabolism disorders play a mediating role in mediating this relationship. Methods: A total of 2,941 participants aged 20-65 years were included in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013-2016. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the correlations of E2 with HUA. Multivariate linear regression analysis was performed to evaluate the associations between E2 and triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and the triglyceride-glucose index (TyG). The restricted cubic spline (RCS) model was used to further explore the association between E2 and HUA and between TG, TC, and TyG and HUA. Mediation analyses were performed to examine whether TC, TG, and TyG mediated the relationship between E2 and HUA. Results: After adjusting for covariates, logistic regression revealed that ln(E2) was significantly associated with HUA in the female subgroup (p = 0.035) and that the incidence of HUA tended to increase with decreasing ln(E2) (p for trend = 0.026). Linear regression showed that E2 was significantly associated with TC (p = 0.032), TG (p = 0.019), and TyG (p = 0.048). The RCS model showed that ln(E2) was linearly correlated with the incidence of HUA (p-overall = 0.0106, p-non-linear = 0.3030). TC and TyG were linearly correlated with HUA (TC: p-overall = 0.0039, p-non-linear = 0.4774; TyG: p-overall = 0.0082, p-non-linear = 0.0663), whereas TG was non-linearly correlated with HUA. Mediation analyses revealed that TC, TG, and TyG significantly mediated the relationship between ln(E2) and HUA (TC, indirect effect: -0.00148, 7.5%, p = 0.008; TG, indirect effect: -0.00062, 3.1%, p = 0.004; TyG, indirect effect: -0.00113, 5.6%, p = 0.016). Conclusion: In conclusion, this study demonstrated that compared with women aged 20-45 years, women aged 45-55 years and 55-65 years had lower E2 levels and a greater incidence of HUA. E2 levels and the incidence of HUA were negatively associated in female individuals but not in male individuals. Background: Early phase research suggests that physiotherapy paired with use of robotic walking aids provides a novel opportunity for children with severe mobility challenges to experience active walking. The Trexo Plus is a pediatric lower limb exoskeleton mounted on a wheeled walker frame, and is adjustable to fit a child's positional and gait requirements. It guides and powers the child's leg movements in a way that is individualized to their movement potential and upright support needs, and can provide progressive challenges for walking within a physiotherapy-based motor learning treatment paradigm. Methods: This protocol outlines a single group mixed-methods study that assesses the feasibility of physiotherapy-assisted overground Trexo use in school and outpatient settings during a 6-week physiotherapy block. Children ages 3-6 years (n = 10; cerebral palsy or related disorder, Gross Motor Function Classification System level IV) will be recruited by circle of care invitations to participate. Study indicators/outcomes will focus on evaluation of: (i) clinical feasibility, safety, and acceptability of intervention; (ii) prepost intervention motor/functional outcomes; (iii) pre-post intervention brain structure characterization and resting state brain connectivity; (iv) muscle activity characterization during Trexo-assisted gait and natural assisted gait; (v) heart rate during Trexo-assisted gait and natural assisted gait; and (vi) user experience and perceptions of physiotherapists, children, and parents. Discussion: This will be the first study to investigate feasibility indicators, outcomes, and experiences of Trexo-based physiotherapy in a school and outpatient context with children who have mobility challenges. It will explore the possibility of experience-dependent neuroplasticity in the context of gait rehabilitation, as well as associated functional and muscular outcomes. Finally, the study will address important questions about clinical utility and future adoption of the device from the physiotherapists' perspective, comfort and engagement from the children's perspective, and the impressions of parents about the value of introducing this technology as an early intervention. In recent years, immunotherapy has emerged as a crucial component of cancer treatment. However, its efficacy remains limited across various cancer types, highlighting unmet needs. Poliovirus receptor-related 2 (PVRL2) and Poliovirus receptor (PVR) are members of the Nectin and Nectin-like Molecules family, known for their role as cell-cell adhesion molecules. With the development of immunotherapy, their involvement in tumor immune mechanisms as immune checkpoint factors has garnered significant attention. PVRL2 and PVR are predominantly expressed on tumor cells and antigen-presenting cells, binding to PVRIG and TIGIT, respectively, which are primarily found on T and NK cells, thereby suppressing antitumor immunity. Notably, gynecological cancers such as ovarian and endometrial cancers exhibit high expression levels of PVRL2 and PVR, with similar trends observed in various other solid and hematologic tumors. Targeting these immune checkpoint pathways offers a promising therapeutic avenue, potentially in combination with existing treatments. However, the immunomodulatory mechanism involving these bindings, known as the DNAM-1 axis, is complex, underscoring the importance of understanding it for developing novel therapies. Objectives: This study aimed to explore the synergistic interaction effect between hyperuricemia and hypertension towards chronic kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: This research originates from a cross-sectional study performed in Zhejiang Province, Eastern China, between March and November 2018. The correlation between serum uric acid levels and the risk of chronic kidney disease was assessed using a restricted cubic spline model. An unconditional multivariable logistic regression model, along with an interaction table, was utilized to explore the potential interaction effect of hyperuricemia and hypertension towards chronic kidney disease. Results: 1,756 patients with type 2 diabetes were included in this study, the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) was 27.62% in this population. A Ushaped non-linear pattern emerged correlating serum uric acid (SUA) levels and CKD risk, indicating that both low and high SUA levels were linked to an increased CKD risk. This risk achieved its lowest point (nadir) at SUA approximately equals to 285mmol/L (p for trend <0.05). Once adjustments for age, gender, education level, abnormal fasting plasma glucose (FPG), abnormal hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), abnormal total cholesterol (TC), abnormal high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), alcohol consumption and duration of diabetes were factored in, it was found that patients with both hyperuricemia and hypertension demonstrated a 5.42-fold (95% CI: 3.72--7.90) increased CKD risk compared to the reference group. The additive interaction between hyperuricemia and hypertension was statistically significant, as manifested by the following values: a relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI) of 2.57 (95% CI: 0.71--4.71), an attributable proportion due to interaction (AP) of 0.47 (95% CI: 0.14--0.64), and a synergy index (SI) of 2.39 (95% CI: 1.24--4.58). In contrast, there was no significant interaction effect in multiplicative scale. Conclusion: Hyperuricemia and hypertension may contribute additively to CKD, beyond their isolated impacts. Background: Various inflammatory markers, including neutrophil-tolymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), platelet-tolymphocyte ratio (PLR), and C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio (CAR), have been linked to the effectiveness of immunotherapy in multiple types of malignancies. We investigated how these inflammatory markers affect the prognosis of patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) receiving immunotherapy. Methods: The databases PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane were systematically searched up until March 26, 2024, to identify relevant literature. Hazard ratios (HR) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) were extracted from the eligible studies. Data analysis was conducted using Review Manager and STATA 17.0 software to assess the impact of each indicator on prognosis. Subgroup analysis was performed to explore potential sources of heterogeneity in the data. Results: The analysis included sixteen studies with 1316 patients. A higher baseline NLR was significantly associated with poorer overall survival (OS) (pooled HR: 1.55, 95%CI: 1.14-2.11, P=0.006) and progression-free survival (PFS) (pooled HR: 1.59, 95% CI: 1.21-2.10, P<0.05). Furthermore, a high NLR after immunotherapy was strongly correlated with poor OS (pooled HR: 5.43, 95% CI: 3.63-8.12, P<0.01). Additionally, higher baseline C-reactive CAR was significantly associated with worse OS (pooled HR: 2.58, 95% CI: 1.96-3.40, P<0.01). Conclusion: The inflammatory markers NLR and CAR serve as effective prognostic biomarkers for immunotherapy in patients with HNSCC. However, the practical application of clinical detection requires further validation through large-scale prospective studies to confirm these findings and explore the underlying mechanisms. The chemistry of phytocannabinoids has witnessed renewed interest these last decades as a consequence of reduced restrictions, research on the endocannabinoid system and the development of approved therapeutic treatments based on cannabinoids. The medicinal cannabinoid market constitutes a prolific scenario in current medicine. Most studies, however, have focused on only two major components of Cannabis sativa L., namely, cannabidiol (CBD, 2) and (-)-Δ9-trans-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-trans-THC, 6a), the latter being the main psychoactive compound of this plant. The cis-diastereoisomer of Δ9-trans-THC, Δ9-cis-THC, although also present in the same plant, has been less investigated in terms of biological, medicinal and synthetic perspectives. Interestingly, the cis-fused tetrahydrobenzo [c]chromene motif present in Δ9- cis-THC is embedded in many other natural products which also exhibit interesting biological activities such as anticancer, antifungal, and antiparasitic. Our mental representation of our body depends on integrating various sensory modalities, such as tactile information. In tactile distance estimation (TDE) tasks, participants must estimate the distance between two tactile tips applied to their skin. This measure of tactile perception has been linked to body representation assessments. Studies in individuals with fibromyalgia (FM), a chronic widespread pain syndrome, suggest the presence of body representation distortions and tactile alterations, but TDE has never been examined in this population. Twenty participants with FM and 24 pain-free controls performed a TDE task on three Body regions (upper limb, trunk, lower limb), in which they manually estimated the interstimuli distance on a tablet. TDE error, the absolute difference between the estimation and the interstimuli distance, was not different between the Groups, on any Body region. Drawings of their body as they felt it revealed clear and frequent distortions of body representation in the group with FM, compared to negligible perturbations in controls. This contrast between distorted body drawings and unaltered TDE suggests a preserved integration of tactile information but an altered integration of this information with other sensory modalities to generate a precise and accurate body representation. Future research should investigate the relative contribution of each sensory information and prior knowledge about the body in body representation in individuals with FM to shed light on the observed distortions. Hyperuricemia (HUA) is a common chronic metabolic disease caused by abnormal purine metabolism and uric acid excretion. Despite extensive research on HUA, no clear treatment has been found so far. Improving purine metabolism and promoting uric acid excretion is crucial for the effective treatment of HUA. In recent years, traditional Chinese medicine and traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions have shown good effects in treating HUA. This article summarizes the latest progress in treating HUA in rats and mice using traditional Chinese medicine and prescriptions, elaborates on the pathogenesis of HUA, explores the application of commonly used traditional Chinese medicine treatment methods and prescriptions, and discusses the previous pharmacological mechanisms. In general, our research indicates that traditional Chinese medicine can effectively relieve the symptoms related to elevated uric acid levels in HUA rats and mice. Introduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) adopted the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) in 2001. The classification provides a framework for the standardised description of functioning and disability using health and health-related domains. The implementation of the ICF is diverse and has a wide range of applications. A thorough understanding of the ICF classification is essential for successful implementation. We developed and delivered an in-person interactive ICF training to facilitate the implementation of the ICF in Germany. The aim of this paper is to present the evaluation of this in-person interactive ICF training. Methods: The evaluation was conducted with questionnaires assessing the organisation of the workshops and the knowledge gained during the training using Likert scaled questions. Open-ended questions were used to gather feedback on the further development of the ICF training. Data were analysed descriptively using absolute and relative frequencies. Open-ended questions were analysed qualitatively. Results: Between 2017 and mid-2020, a team of trainers at the Chair of Public Health and Health Services Research (IBE) at LMU Munich organised 12 inperson interactive ICF trainings with a total of 191 participants. In total 151 participants filled in the questionnaires (response rate: 79.1%). The participants professional backgrounds were primarily in the social sector (n = 76; 50.3%), clinical sector (n = 36; 23.8%), and administrative sector (n = 31; 20.5%). 42.4% of the participants strongly agreed that the content was relevant to their work, while an additional 51.0% almost agreed. According to this evaluation, 82.1% of the participants would recommend the training to others. Discussion: A numberof constructive suggestions and proposalswere made for the further development of the training programme. Fishing vessels are important contributors to global emissions in terms of greenhouse gases and air pollutants. However, few studies have addressed the emissions from fishing vessels on fishing grounds. In this study, a framework for estimating fishing vessel emissions, using a bottom-up dynamic method based on the big data from the Beidou VMS (vessel monitoring system) of fishing vessels, is proposed and applied to a survey of fishing vessel emissions in the East China Sea. The results of the study established a one-year emission inventory of fishing vessels in the East China Sea. The synaptojanin-1 (SYNJ1) gene is known to be important for dopamine-related disorders. Recent evidence has demonstrated that Synj1 deficient mice (Synj1+/-) have impairments in dopaminergic synaptic vesicular recycling. However, less is known about how Synj1 deficits affect the mesolimbic system, reward processing, and motivated behavior. To examine the role of the Synj1 gene in motivated behavior, we subjected male and female Synj1+/- and Synj1+/+ mice to a battery of behavioral tests evaluating hedonic responses, effortful responding, and responses to psychomotor stimulants. We observed that Synj1+/- mice exhibit few differences in reward processing and motivated behavior, with normal hedonic responses and motivated responding for sucrose. However, male but not female Synj1+/- demonstrated an attenuated conditioned place preference for cocaine that could not be attributed to deficits in spatial memory. To further understand the dopamine signaling underlying the attenuated response to cocaine in these mutant mice, we recorded nucleus accumbens dopamine in response to cocaine and observed that Synj1+/- male and female mice took longer to reach peak dopamine release following experimenter-administered cocaine. However, female mice also showed slower decay in accumbens dopamine that appear to be linked to differences in cocaine-induced DAT responses. These findings demonstrate that SYNJ1 deficiencies result in abnormal mesolimbic DA signaling which has not previously been demonstrated. Our work also highlights the need to develop targeted therapeutics capable of restoring deficits in DAT function, which may be effective for reversing the pathologies associated with Synj1 mutations. Ischemic stroke is a significant global cause of death and disability. Currently, treatment options for acute ischemic stroke are limited to intravenous thrombolysis and mechanical recanalization. Therefore, novel neuroprotective strategies are imperative. Stem cell transplantation possesses the capabilities of differentiation, proliferation, neuronal replacement, nerve pathway reconstruction, secretion of nerve growth factors, and enhancement of the microenvironment; thus, it is a potential therapeutic approach for ischemic stroke. In addition, the immunomodulatory function of stem cells and the combined treatment of stem cells and exosomes exhibit a favorable protective effect on brain injury and neurological dysfunction following stroke. Meanwhile, the theory of microbiota-gut-brain axis provides us with a novel perspective for comprehending and managing neurological diseases. Lastly, stem cell transplantation has demonstrated promising outcomes not only in treating ischemic stroke but also in dealing with other neurological disorders, such as brain tumors. Tertiary lymphoid structures (TLS) represent the ectopic aggregations of immune cells arising during chronic inflammation or tumor progression. In cancer, TLS are often associated with beneficial clinical outcomes in patients undergoing immunotherapy, underscoring their prognostic and predictive significance. Mature TLS, characterized by germinal centers and areas of T-cell and B-cell aggregation, are considered primary locations for activating and maintaining both humoral and cellular anti-tumor immune effects. Despite their recognized importance, the mechanisms driving the formation of mature TLS in cancer and their influence on the immune response within tumors remain insufficiently understood. Background: Hyperuricemia (HUA) is a glo\bal public health problem. The etiology of HUA is complex and efficient and accurate assessment metrics are still lacking when conducting large-scale epidemiologic screening. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index, TyG-bodymass index (BMI), TyG-waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) with the risk of HUA. Methods: Based on data collected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) in the United States and the China Health and Aging Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) in China, a total of 14,286 U.S. adults and 4,620 Chinese adultswere included in the analysis. The study examined the levels of TyG, TyG-BMI, TyG-WHtR, and TyG-WC. Multivariate logistic regression was utilized to investigate the relationships between these variables and hyperuricemia (HUA), separately. Additionally, the study used restricted cubic splines (RCS) to explore the linear associations of TyG, TyG-BMI, TyG-WHtR, TyG-WC, and HUA, separately. Results: The NHANES results showed that TyG [Q2, 1.58(1.26, 1.98); Q3, 2.36 (1.94, 2.88); Q4, 3.21 (2.61, 3.94)], TyG-BMI [Q2, 2.14 (1.74, 2.65); Q3, 3.38 (2.74, 4.17); Q4, 6.70 (5.55, 8.02)], TyG-WHtR [Q2, 1.92 (1.56, 2.36); Q3, 3.14 (2.56, 3.85); Q4, 6.28 (5.12, 7.69)], TyG-WC [Q2, 2.32 (1.85, 2.90); Q3, 3.51 (2.84, 4.34); Q4, 7.32 (5.95, 9.02)] were identified as risk factors for hyperuricemia (HUA). Similarly, the CHARLS results, when fully adjusted for covariates, indicated that TyG [Q4, 2.36 (1.08, 5.15)], TyG-BMI [Q3, 2.60 (1.05, 6.41); Q4, 3.70 (1.64, 8.32)], TyG-WHtR (Q4, 2.84 (1.23, 6.55), TyG-WC [Q4, 2.85 (1.23, 6.5)] were also risk factors for HUA. The predictive ability of each indicator for the risk of developing HUA was stronger in women than in men. Furthermore, there was an observed nonlinear relationship between TyG, TyG-BMI, TyG-WHtR, TyG-WC, and HUA in both the NHANES and CHARLS datasets (P-nonlinearity < 0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that TyG, TyG-BMI, TyG-WHtR and TyG-WC are associated with an increased risk of HUA. Background: IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is a significant contributor to chronic kidney disease (CKD). Renal arteriolar damage is associated with IgAN prognosis. However, simple tools for predicting arteriolar damage of IgAN remain limited. We aim to develop and validate a nomogram model for predicting renal arteriolar damage in IgAN patients. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 547 cases of biopsy-proven IgAN patients. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression and logistic regression were applied to screen for factors associated with renal arteriolar damage in patients with IgAN. A nomogram was developed to evaluate the renal arteriolar damage in patients with IgAN. The performance of the proposed nomogram was evaluated based on a calibration plot, ROC curve (AUC) and Harrell's concordance index (C-index). Results: In this study, patients in the arteriolar damage group had higher levels of age, mean arterial pressure (MAP), serum creatinine, serum urea nitrogen, serum uric acid, triglycerides, proteinuria, tubular atrophy/interstitial fibrosis (T1-2) and decreased eGFR than those without arteriolar damage. Predictors contained in the prediction nomogram included age, MAP, eGFR and serum uric acid. Then, a nomogram model for predicting renal arteriolar damage was established combining the above indicators. Our model achieved well-fitted calibration curves and the C-indices of this model were 0.722 (95%CI 0.670-0.774) and 0.784 (95%CI 0.716-0.852) in the development and validation groups, respectively. Conclusion: With excellent predictive abilities, the nomogram may be a simple and reliable tool to predict the risk of renal arteriolar damage in patients with IgAN. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Investigations in Wistar Albino Glaxo from Rijswijk (WAG/Rij) rats that are susceptible to genetic absence epilepsy have demonstrated that environmental modifications affect absence seizures. Previously, we showed that neonatal tactile stimulations produce disease-modifying effect on genetically determined absence epilepsy and associated depression in Wag/Rij rats. The study presented here examined the effect of TS during late ontogenesis (adolescence and young adulthood) on epilepsy and depression outcomes in this genetically epileptic rat strain. On postnatal day (PND) 38, male WAG/Rij rats randomly were assigned to either the tactile stimulation (TS), handled or control group (unhandled) with 8 animals in each group. Following a 7-day adaptation period to their new surroundings, the animals were submitted to tactile stimulation from PND 45 to PND 90, five days per week, for 5  min daily. The tactile-stimulated rat was removed from its cage, placed on the experimenter’s lap, and had its neck and back gently stroked by the researcher. The handled rats were taken to another cage and left alone for 5  min daily from PND 45 to PND 90. The control rats were left undisturbed in their home cage, except for regular cage cleaning. After PND 90, all rats were left undisturbed until behavioral testing and EEG recording. When the animals were 7  months old, they were subjected to the sucrose consumption test (SCT) and the forced swimming test (FST). Electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings were made at 8  months of age in order to measure electroencephalographic seizure activity, thus, the spike– wave discharges (SWDs). Tactile-stimulated rats showed increased sucrose consumption and number of approaches to the sucrose solution in the SCT when compared with the handled and control rats. In the FST, rats in TS group showed lower immobility time and greater immobility latency, active swimming time and diving frequency than the handled and control rats. The duration and the number of seizures were not different amongst the groups. The data obtained suggest that TS in young rats is able to prevent depression in WAG/ Rij rats. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: This research endeavors to explore the relationship between serum uric acid (SUA) concentration and all-cause mortality in stroke patients. Methods: We undertook a cross-sectional analysis utilizing data derived from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 2007 to 2016. The concentrations of SUA served as the independent variable, while the dependent variable was defined as all-cause mortality in stroke patients. The quartile method was utilized to classify uric acid levels into four distinct categories. Subsequently, three models were developed, and Cox proportional hazards regression was used to assess the effect of varying uric acid concentrations on the risk of all-cause mortality among stroke patients. Results: The study included a total of 10,805 participants, of whom 395 were stroke patients. Among all populations, the group with elevated levels of uric acid (Q4) exhibited a significant association with the overall mortality risk among stroke patients in all three models (model 1 p < 0.001, model 2 p < 0.001, model 3 p < 0.001). In the male population, there was no significant correlation observed between uric acid levels and the overall mortality risk among stroke patients in model 3 (Q2 p = 0.8, Q3 p = 0.2, Q4 p = 0.2). However, within the female population, individuals with high uric acid levels (Q4) demonstrated a noteworthy association with the overall mortality risk among stroke patients across all three models (model 1 p < 0.001, model 2 p < 0.001, model 3 p < 0.001). Conclusion: This cross-sectional investigation reveals a significant correlation between SUA levels and all-cause mortality in stroke patients, with a noticeable trend observed among females.
