IntroductionMaize photosensitivity and the control of flowering not only are important for reproduction, but also play pivotal roles in the processes of domestication and environmental adaptation, especially involving the utilization strategy of tropical maize in high-latitude regions.MethodsIn this study, we used a linkage mapping population and an inbred association panel with the photoperiod sensitivity index (PSI) phenotyped under different environments and performed transcriptome analysis of T32 and QR273 between long-day and short-day conditions.ResultsThe results showed that PSIs of days to tasseling (DTT), days to pollen shedding (DTP), and days to silking (DTS) indicated efficacious interactions with photoperiod sensitivity for maize latitude adaptation. A total of 48 quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and 252 quantitative trait nucleotides (QTNs) were detected using the linkage population and the inbred association panel. Thirteen candidate genes were identified by combining the genome-wide association study (GWAS) approach, linkage analysis, and transcriptome analysis, wherein five critical candidate genes, MYB163, bif1, burp8, CADR3, and Zm00001d050238, were significantly associated with photoperiod sensitivity.DiscussionThese results would provide much more abundant theoretical proofs to reveal the genetic basis of photoperiod sensitivity, which would be helpful to understand the genetic changes during domestication and improvement and contribute to reducing the barriers to use of tropical germplasm.

IntroductionLong-term care assistants are taking on more important roles in the healthcare system. The purpose of this study was to investigate what demographic factors influence the core competencies of nursing assistants, as well as to investigate the levels of organizational support, self-efficacy, and core competencies among nursing assistants in China, to explore the relationship between them.MethodsThis is a cross-sectional study with prospective data collection based on a self-report questionnaire. A total of 320 long-term care assistants from two healthcare institutions. We collected socio-demographic characteristics and measured their perceived organizational support, self-efficacy, and core competency levels of the participants. Pearson correlation tests were conducted to examine the relationships among three variables, and a structural equation model was developed to test the interrelationships among these variables.ResultsThe results indicated that age, employment type, licensing status, monthly income, pre-job training, and training methods were associated with core competency, with nursing knowledge identified as a weak area in core competencies. This paper introduces a comprehensive conceptual framework integrating ecological principles, urban planning strategies, and adaptive management methodologies to nurture resilient and biodiverse urban landscapes. The essence of UGI lies in its capacity to bolster ecological connectivity, restore ecosystem functions, and provide habitats for diverse flora and fauna within urban settings. Fundamental principles governing UGI design underscore its multifunctionality, connectivity, diversity, and accessibility, emphasizing the importance of adaptive management marked by its iterative and participatory nature. Despite challenges posed by urbanization, such as habitat loss, pollution, and climate change, UGI interventions offer promising avenues for enhancing habitat quality, connectivity, and ecosystem resilience. Global case studies demonstrate the effectiveness of UGI in biodiversity conservation, leveraging initiatives like green roofs, urban forests, and community gardens. Understanding the complex influencing factors of soil erosion is critical for maintaining regional ecological security. The revised wind erosion equation (RWEQ) and partial least squares regression (PLSR) model were used to reveal the primary factors affecting soil erosion. Based on the results of the RWEQ model, the wind erosion area was 8,439.3 km2 in 2018, accounting for 54.3% of the total planning area, and mild erosion, moderate erosion, intense erosion, very intense erosion, and fierce erosion accounted for 18.22%, 11.43%, 11.78%, 10.16%, and 2.74% of the total planning area, respectively. Based on the results of the PLSR model, the results indicate that the proportion of mining land, meteorological indicators, and mean square deviation of slope difference were positively correlated with the soil erosion area, intensity, and severity, respectively. The proportion of grassland and forest land was negatively correlated with the soil erosion area, intensity, and severity. The mean square deviation of slope difference, the mean square deviation of difference in elevation, and the proportion of urban land use contributed the most to the soil erosion severity index, with variable importance in projection (VIP) scores of 1.55, 1.44 and 1.43, respectively. The mean square deviation of slope difference, the proportion of urban land, and the mean square deviation of difference in elevation contributed the most to the soil erosion area, with VIP scores of 1.53, 1.26 and 1.24, respectively. The results provide new insights into wind erosion and the influences of weather conditions and human influences, which can guide regional soil and water conservation planning in wind erosion regions.

Nerve injuries significantly impact the quality of life for patients, with severe cases posing life-threatening risks. A comprehensive understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying nerve injury is crucial to the development of effective strategies to promote nerve regeneration. Circular RNAs (circRNAs), a recently characterized class of RNAs distinguished by their covalently closed-loop structures, have been shown to play an important role in various biological processes. Numerous studies have highlighted the pivotal role of circRNAs in nerve regeneration, identifying them as potential therapeutic targets. This review aims to succinctly outline the latest advances in the role of circRNAs related to nerve injury repair and the underlying mechanisms, including peripheral nerve injury, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and neuropathic pain. Finally, we discuss the potential applications of circRNAs in drug development and consider the potential directions for future research in this field to provide insights into circRNAs in nerve injury repair.

IntroductionPrevious studies have demonstrated that frailty is associated with depressive symptoms among older people and significantly increase the risk of difficulty in activities of daily living (ADL). However, uncertainties remain regarding the mechanisms behind such relationship. The aim of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of ADL in the relationship between frailty and depressive symptoms among older adults in China, and to explore to what extend sleep duration moderated the association between ADL and depressive symptoms.MethodsIn this study, we carried out cross-sectional descriptive analysis and 1,429 participants were included in the analysis. A survey was conducted using questionnaires and instruments measuring frailty, depressive symptoms, ADL and sleep duration. Bootstrap analyses served to explore the impact of ADL in mediating frailty and depressed symptoms, as well as the effect of sleep duration in moderating ADL and depressive symptoms.ResultsCompared to the robust group, the mediating effects of ADL between frailty and depressive symptoms were significant in the prefrail group and the frail group. The interaction term between sleep duration and ADL was significantly presented in the regression on depressive symptoms. Specifically, the Johnson–Neyman technique determined a range from 8.31 to 10.19 h for sleep duration, within which the detrimental effect of frailty on depressive symptoms was offset.ConclusionSleep duration moderated the indirect effect of ADL on the association between frailty and depressive symptoms. This provides support for unraveling the underlying mechanism of the association between frailty and depressive symptoms. Encouraging older adults to enhance ADL and obtain appropriate sleep duration might improve depressive symptoms for older adults with frailty and prefrailty.

The Blasingame method is a valuable tool for analysing the diminishing production challenge in the presence of variable bottomhole pressure and diverse production conditions. It is essential to highlight that the Blasingame method views the closed reservoir as the outer boundary condition for its model. This paper introduces the concept of the equivalent well control radius and formulates the Blasingame method based on the fluid flow characteristics inherent in twin-well production, taking into account the influence of inter-well interference. This study provides an in-depth analysis of production variations in reservoirs with inter-well interference by examining Blasingame type-curve definitions of the dimensionless parameters. Additionally, it investigates key factors impacting production, including neighbouring wells’ production, distance, and opening time: variations in all three parameters lead to different levels of interference between wells, which manifests itself in the regularised production integral derivative curve with different lengths and heights of convexity. Numerical simulations employing orthogonality are conducted to validate the reliability of this method. The results of these simulations offer theoretical support for the precise evaluation of reservoirs facing similar challenges.

The new regulations on ship energy efficiency proposed by the International Maritime Organization have had a significant impact on the shipping and shipbuilding industries. Improving the speed performance of ships was an effective approach to meet the requirements of energy conservation and emission reduction, reduce ship energy consumption and operating costs, and strengthen the market competitiveness of the ship enterprises. One method to improve ship speed performance was by mainly reducing the ship’s resistance. The main aim was to optimize the principal dimensions and hull lines of ships. Taking the research and development of a ship as an example, the application of the fully parametric optimization method in the optimization of ship hull lines was described in detail. The parent ship was selected from the ship database, which has excellent speed performance. The parent ship was simply transformed to meet the requirements of the target ship. The traditional optimization method was used to optimize the hull lines to reduce the hull resistance as much as possible, and a hull line with the best resistance performance was obtained. Based on the initial hull lines that met the requirements, the fully parametric model of the hull was established, and the fully parametric optimization method was used to optimize the hull with the best resistance performance. Experiments were carried out in the towing tank, and the resistance results of the two types of ships were found. The simulation of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and model test had good consistency, and it was found that the hull lines optimized by the fully parameterization method had better performance than those optimized by the traditional method. The fully parametric hull line optimization method was effective in optimizing hull lines, and it could also reduce the excessive dependence of research personnel on the parent ship and design experience.

Articular cartilage injuries present a significant global challenge, particularly in the aging population. These injuries not only restrict movement due to primary damage but also exacerbate elderly degenerative lesions, leading to secondary cartilage injury and osteoarthritis. Addressing osteoarthritis and cartilage damage involves overcoming several technical challenges in biological treatment. The use of induced mesenchymal stem cells (iMSCs) with functional gene modifications emerges as a solution, providing a more stable and controllable source of Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) with reduced heterogeneity. Furthermore, In addition, this review encompasses strategies aimed at enhancing exosome efficacy, comprising the cultivation of MSCs in three-dimensional matrices, augmentation of functional constituents within MSC-derived exosomes, and modification of their surface characteristics. Finally, we delve into the mechanisms through which MSC-exosomes, sourced from diverse tissues, thwart osteoarthritis (OA) progression and facilitate cartilage repair. This review lays a foundational framework for engineering iMSC-exosomes treatment of patients suffering from osteoarthritis and articular cartilage injuries, highlighting cutting-edge research and potential therapeutic pathways.

ObjectiveTo review and summarize the characteristics and therapy of paraganglioma of the urinary bladder (PUB).MethodPatients who underwent the operation in Peking Union Medical College Hospital between January 2012 and December 2021 were reviewed for this retrospective study.ResultsA total of 29 patients, comprising 9 (31%) men and 20 (69%) women, were included. The main manifestations were hypertension, palpitation, and micturition syncope. Eight patients had an increased 24-h urinary catecholamine, and seven of them had increased norepinephrine. Normetanephrine in seven patients was increased. Six of 18 metaiodobenzylguanidine and 8 of 22 octreotide scans were positive. In total, 15 cases underwent laparoscopic partial cystectomy and 14 underwent transurethral resection of bladder tumor. In all patients, the immunohistochemical index of Melan-A, AE1/AE3, and α-inhibin were negative, and chromogranin A, S-100, and succinate dehydrogenase were positive. The Ki-67 of 28/29 cases was under 5%, and 1 case with a Ki-67 of 20% was diagnosed with malignant PUB. A total of 27 patients had a regular follow-up, 2 patients were lost during the follow-up, 3 patients had a recurrence, and 1 of these patients died within 1 year of surgery. IntroductionThe field of electroencephalogram (EEG)-based emotion identification has received significant attention and has been widely utilized in both human-computer interaction and therapeutic settings. The process of manually analyzing electroencephalogram signals is characterized by a significant investment of time and work. While machine learning methods have shown promising results in classifying emotions based on EEG data, the task of extracting distinct characteristics from these signals still poses a considerable difficulty.MethodsIn this study, we provide a unique deep learning model that incorporates an attention mechanism to effectively extract spatial and temporal information from emotion EEG recordings. The purpose of this model is to address the existing gap in the field. The implementation of emotion EEG classification involves the utilization of a global average pooling layer and a fully linked layer, which are employed to leverage the discernible characteristics. In order to assess the effectiveness of the suggested methodology, we initially gathered a dataset of EEG recordings related to music-induced emotions.ExperimentsSubsequently, we ran comparative tests between the state-of-the-art algorithms and the method given in this study, utilizing this proprietary dataset. In view of water and soil getting polluted by Pb(II), Zn(II), and other heavy metals in tailings and acid mine drainage (AMD), we explored the removal effect of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) on Pb(II), Zn(II), and other pollutants in solution and tailings based on the microbial treatment technology. We used the scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray fluorescence (XRF), to reveal the mechanism of SRB treatment of tailings. The results showed that SRB had a strong removal capacity for Zn(II) at 0–40 mg/L; however, Zn(II) at 60–100 mg/L inhibited the growth of SRB. Similarly, SRB exhibited a very strong ability to remove Pb(II) from the solution. At a Pb(II) concentration of 10–50 mg/L, its removal percentage by SRB was 100%. SRB treatment could effectively immobilize the pollutants leached from the tailings. With an increase in the amount of tailings added to each layer, the ability of SRB to treat the pollutants diminished. When 1 cm of tailingssand was added to each layer, SRB had the best effect on tailing sand treatment. After treatment, the immobilization rates of SO42-, Fe(III), Mn(II), Pb(II), Zn(II), Cu(II), and total Cr in the leachate of #1 tailing sand were 95.44%, 100%, 90.88%, 100%, 96.20%, 86.23%, and 93.34%, respectively. IntroductionThe ErbB-2.1(TOB1) signaling transducer protein is a tumor-suppressive protein that actively suppresses the malignant phenotype of gastric cancer cells. Yet, TOB1 negatively regulates the activation and growth of different immune cells. Understanding the expression and role of TOB1 in the gastric cancer immune environment is crucial to maximize its potential in targeted immunotherapy.MethodsThis study employed multiplex immunofluorescence analysis to precisely delineate and quantify the expression of TOB1 in immune cells within gastric cancer tissue microarrays. Univariate and multivariate Cox analyses were performed to assess the influence of clinical-pathological parameters, immune cells, TOB1, and double-positive cells on the prognosis of gastric cancer patients. Subsequent experiments included co-culture assays of si-TOB1-transfected neutrophils with AGS or HGC-27 cells, along with EdU, invasion, migration assays, and bioinformatics analyses, aimed at elucidating the mechanisms through which TOB1 in neutrophils impacts the prognosis of gastric cancer patients.ResultsWe remarkably revealed that TOB1 exhibits varying expression levels in both the nucleus (nTOB1) and cytoplasm (cTOB1) of diverse immune cell populations, including CD8+ T cells, CD66b+ neutrophils, FOXP3+ Tregs, CD20+ B cells, CD4+ T cells, and CD68+ macrophages within gastric cancer and paracancerous tissues. Significantly, TOB1 was notably concentrated in CD66b+ neutrophils. Survival analysis showed that a higher density of cTOB1/nTOB1+CD66b+ neutrophils was linked to a better prognosis. Subsequent experiments revealed that, following stimulation with the supernatant of tumor tissue culture, the levels of TOB1 protein and mRNA in neutrophils decreased, accompanied by enhanced apoptosis. HL-60 cells were successfully induced to neutrophil-like cells by DMSO. Neutrophils-like cells with attenuated TOB1 gene expression by si-TOB1 demonstrated heightened apoptosis, consequently fostering a malignant phenotype in AGS and HCG-27 cells upon co-cultivation. The subsequent analysis of the datasets from TCGA and TIMER2 revealed that patients with high levels of TOB1 combined neutrophils showed better immunotherapy response.DiscussionThis study significantly advances our comprehension of TOB1’s role within the immune microenvironment of gastric cancer, offering promising therapeutic targets for immunotherapy in this context.

Background: The occurrence and development of Hepatic fibrosis (HF) are closely related to the gut microbial composition and alterations in host metabolism. Qijia Rougan decoction (QJ) is a traditional Chinese medicine compound utilized clinically for the treatment of HF with remarkable clinical efficacy. However, its effect on the gut microbiota and metabolite alterations is unknown. Therefore, our objective was to examine the impact of QJ on the gut microbiota and metabolism in Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced HF.Methods: 40% CCl4 was used to induce HF, followed by QJ administration for 6 weeks. Serum biochemical analyses, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, RT-PCR, 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and non-targeted metabolomics techniques were employed in this study to investigate the interventional effects of QJ on a CCl4-induced HF model in rats.Results: This study demonstrated that QJ could effectively ameliorate CCl4-induced hepatic inflammation and fibrosis. Moreover, QJ upregulated the expression of intestinal tight junction proteins (TJPs) and notably altered the abundance of some gut microbes, for example, 10 genera closely associated with HF-related indicators and TJPs. In addition, metabolomics found 37 key metabolites responded to QJ treatment and strongly associated with HF-related indices and TJPs. Furthermore, a tight relation between 10 genera and 37 metabolites was found post correlation analysis. Among them, Turicibacter, Faecalibaculum, Prevotellaceae UCG 001, and unclassified Peptococcaceae may serve as the core gut microbes of QJ that inhibit HF.Conclusion: These results suggest that QJ ameliorates hepatic inflammation and fibrosis, which may be achieved by improving intestinal tight junctions and modulating gut microbiota composition as well as modulating host metabolism.

Introduction: The Tibetan antelope (Pantholops hodgsonii) is a remarkable mammal thriving in the extreme Qinghai-Tibet Plateau conditions. Despite the availability of its genome sequence, limitations in the scaffold-level assembly have hindered a comprehensive understanding of its genomics. Moreover, comparative analyses with other Bovidae species are lacking, along with insights into genome rearrangements in the Tibetan antelope.Methods: Addressing these gaps, we present a multifaceted approach by refining the Tibetan Antelope genome through linkage disequilibrium analysis with data from 15 newly sequenced samples.Results: The scaffold N50 of the refined reference is 3.2 Mbp, surpassing the previous version by 1.15-fold. Our annotation analysis resulted in 50,750 genes, encompassing 29,324 novel genes not previously study. Comparative analyses reveal 182 unique rearrangements within the scaffolds, contributing to our understanding of evolutionary dynamics and species-specific adaptations. Furthermore, by conducting detailed genomic comparisons and reconstructing rearrangements, we have successfully pioneered the reconstruction of the X-chromosome in the Tibetan antelope.Discussion: This effort enhances our comprehension of the genomic landscape of this species.

The composition of the microbiome influences many aspects of physiology and health, and can be altered by environmental factors, including diet and activity. Glucosamine is a dietary supplement often administered to address arthritic symptoms in humans, dogs, and other mammals. To investigate how gut microbial composition varies with glucosamine supplementation, we performed 16S rRNA sequence analysis of fecal samples from 24 Alaskan and Inuit huskies and used mixed effects models to investigate associations with activity, age, and additional factors. Glucosamine ingestion, age, activity, sex, and diet were correlated with differences in alpha-diversity, with diversity decreasing in dogs consuming glucosamine. Beta-diversity analysis revealed clustering of dogs based on glucosamine supplementation status. Glucosamine supplementation and exercise-related activity were associated with greater inter-individual pairwise distances. At the family level, Lactobacillaceae and Anaerovoracaceae relative abundances were lower in supplemented dogs when activity was accounted for. At the genus level, Eubacterium [brachy], Sellimonus, Parvibacter, and an unclassified genus belonging to the same family as Parvibacter (Eggerthellaceae) all were lower in supplemented dogs, but only significantly so post-activity. Our findings suggest that glucosamine supplementation alters microbiome composition in sled dogs, particularly in the context of exercise-related activity.

Northeast China has been facing a severe power shortage situation. Since September 2021, “power rationing” events occurring in many places in the three provinces of northeast China have been causing inconvenience to people’s production and life. Therefore, it is particularly important to accurately predict the power load combined with the influencing factors of local power consumption. At the same time, the northeast region is about to enter the heating season, and the pressure on coal and electricity will further increase. In Heilongjiang Province, due to coal capacity control, limited production led to the high price of thermal coal; wind power photovoltaic output fluctuations, the epidemic, and other reasons also resulted in a large gap in the power supply side. Improving the power demand forecasting ability is of great significance to strengthen the reliability of people’s daily electricity consumption, rational distribution of power generation plans, and deployment of power grid resources. In order to improve the accuracy of electricity consumption prediction in Heilongjiang Province, Markov error correction is carried out on the basis of the backpropagation (BP) neural network prediction model so that the final prediction results have the advantages of the BP neural network prediction model and Markov model. In addition, it is more suitable for the prediction of random series data with high volatility, the prediction accuracy can be improved significantly, and the overall trend of electricity consumption can be predicted more accurately.

Introduction: The application prospects of percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) as a minimally invasive spinal surgery method in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation are extensive. This study aims to find the optimal entry angle for the trephine at the L4/5 intervertebral space, which causes less lumbar damage and has greater postoperative stability. To achieve this, we conduct a three-dimensional simulated analysis of the degree of damage caused by targeted puncture-based trephine osteotomy on the lumbar spine.Methods: We gathered clinical CT data from patients to construct a lumbar model. This model was used to simulate and analyze the variations in trephine osteotomy volume resulting from targeted punctures at the L4/5 interspace. Furthermore, according to these variations in osteotomy volume, we created Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models specifically for the trephine osteotomy procedure. We then applied mechanical loads to conduct range of motion and von Mises stress analyses on the lumbar motion unit.Results: In percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy, the smallest osteotomy volume occurred with a 20° entry angle, close to the base of the spinous process. The volume increased at 30° and reached its largest at 40°. In percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy, the largest osteotomy volume was observed with a 50° entry angle, passing through the facet joints, with smaller volumes at 60° and the smallest at 70°. In FEA, M6 exhibited the most notable biomechanical decline, particularly during posterior extension and right rotation. M2 and M3 showed significant differences primarily in rotation, whereas the differences between M3 and M4 were most evident in posterior extension and right rotation. M5 displayed their highest stress levels primarily in posterior extension, with significant variations observed in right rotation alongside M4.Conclusion: The appropriate selection of entry sites can reduce lumbar damage and increase stability. We suggest employing targeted punctures at a 30° angle for PEID and at a 60° angle for PTED at the L4/5 intervertebral space. Additionally, reducing the degree of facet joint damage is crucial to enhance postoperative stability in lumbar vertebral motion units.

Eliminating energy poverty is not only a prerequisite for escaping the “energy poverty trap” but also crucial to enhancing the welfare of residents and realising ecological civilization. Income inequality has become an essential challenge affecting China’s economic growth and social stability. By integrating Chinese household data for 2016, 2018, and 2020, a mixed-method approach of energy income response modeling, income inequality measurement modeling, and fixed panel modeling is used in this paper to explore the relationship between income inequality and household energy poverty. Further, the mechanism of income inequality on energy poverty and the poverty reduction effect of household income on energy poverty are explored. The results show that income inequality is significantly and positively correlated with household energy poverty, implying that widening income inequality leads to energy “poverty enhancement.” In terms of mechanisms, income inequality increases energy poverty by increasing households’ willingness to save and reducing energy consumption. The moderating effect analysis shows that the breadth of digital financial inclusion reduces the contribution of income inequality to household energy poverty. The increase in household income will increase the affordability of households, especially the increase in wage income and property income, which can help households lift themselves out of “energy poverty.” Therefore, creating sustainable digital ecosystems, incorporating sound government interventions, and providing diversified income channels are key to helping households escape energy poverty.

In recent decades, ecological cyclic cultivation models have attracted increasing attention, primarily because the decomposition of crop residues and litter enhances soil organic matter content, thereby altering the soil microenvironment and regulating the diversity and functions of soil microbial communities. However, the effects of different coffee waste mulching on the diversity of soil microbial communities and their functions are still unclear. Therefore, this study set up four kinds of covering treatments: uncovered coffee waste (C), covered coffee litter (L), covered coffee pericarp (P), and both covered coffee litter and pericarp (PL). The results showed that compared to the control, coffee pericarp mulching significantly increased the soil available potassium (SAK) content by 18.45% and alkali hydrolyzed N (SAN) content by 17.29%. Furthermore, coffee pericarp mulching significantly increased bacterial richness and diversity by 7.75 and 2.79%, respectively, while litter mulching had little effect on bacterial abundance and diversity was smaller. The pericarp mulching significantly increased the abundance of Proteus by 22.35% and the abundance of Chlamydomonas by 80.04%, but significantly decreased the abundance of Cyanobacteria by 68.38%, while the coffee litter mulching significantly increased the abundance of Chlamydomonas by 48.28%, but significantly decreased the abundance of Cyanobacteria by 73.98%. The increase in soil SAK promoted bacterial Anoxygenic_photoautotrophy, Nitrogen_respiration, Nitrate_respiration, Nitrite_respiration, and Denitrification functions. The above results indicate that the increase in available soil potassium and alkali hydrolyzed N content under coffee pericarp cover is the main reason for promoting the diversity and richness of bacterial community and promoting the changes in bacterial community structure and function. The use of coffee pericarps in coffee plantations for ecological recycling helps to improve the diversity of the soil microbial community and maintain the relative stability of the microbial community structure and function, promoting soil health conservation and the sustainable development of related industries.

Objective: Digitalization supported by digital technology presents a potential solution for improving the efficiency of resource utilization. However, the impacts of digitalization on trade-related carbon emissions intensity have not been studied systematically.Methods: Based on panel data of 41 countries and regions over the period 2000–2014, this study examines how different types of digital value chain embeddedness can affect carbon emissions intensity using a semi-parametric partially linear model.Results: Research findings indicate that there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between digital domestic value chain embeddedness and carbon emissions intensity embodied in domestic trade; only when digitalization reaches a threshold of approximately 0.88, does the effects on carbon emissions intensity become negative. In addition, the impacts of digital global value chain embeddedness on carbon emissions intensity embodied in import trade and export trade are recognized as being non-linear; the thresholds of digitalization are approximately 0.1 and 0.3 for import trade and approximately 0.03 and 0.21 for export trade. Although participating in global value chains is conducive to accelerating digital technology diffusion, the actual environmental effects are constrained by a country’s absorptive capacity and high economic system complexity. Compared with developed countries, developing countries lag behind in entering the downward stage of the inverted U-shaped curve, thereby gaining environmental benefits from digital value chain embeddedness. Moreover, in terms of utilizing digital value chain embeddedness to improve energy efficiency, measures include optimizing trade conditions, adjusting energy structure, and increasing trade scale, which can play an active role.Value: This study sheds light on the exploration of the potential of digitalization and the facilitation of economic development in a more environmentally friendly manner.

IntroductionThe precise identification of retinal disorders is of utmost importance in the prevention of both temporary and permanent visual impairment. Prior research has yielded encouraging results in the classification of retinal images pertaining to a specific retinal condition. In clinical practice, it is not uncommon for a single patient to present with multiple retinal disorders concurrently. Hence, the task of classifying retinal images into multiple labels remains a significant obstacle for existing methodologies, but its successful accomplishment would yield valuable insights into a diverse array of situations simultaneously.MethodsThis study presents a novel vision transformer architecture called retinal ViT, which incorporates the self-attention mechanism into the field of medical image analysis. To note that this study supposed to prove that the transformer-based models can achieve competitive performance comparing with the CNN-based models, hence the convolutional modules have been eliminated from the proposed model. The suggested model concludes with a multi-label classifier that utilizes a feed-forward network architecture. This classifier consists of two layers and employs a sigmoid activation function.Results and discussionThe experimental findings provide evidence of the improved performance exhibited by the suggested model when compared to state-of-the-art approaches such as ResNet, VGG, DenseNet, and MobileNet, on the publicly available dataset ODIR-2019, and the proposed approach has outperformed the state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of Kappa, F1 score, AUC, and AVG.

The rhomboid lip (RL) is a layer of neural tissue that extends outside the fourth ventricle and is connected to the lateral recess of the fourth ventricle. Although this anatomical structure has been rigorously studied, it is often overlooked in microvascular decompression (MVD) surgery. In this report, we present two cases, one of hemifacial spasm (HFS) and one of glossopharyngeal neuralgia (GPN), in which a large RL was observed during surgery. We found that a large RL is easily confused with arachnoid cysts, and accurate identification and dissection are important to protect the lower cranial nerves.

ObjectiveTo analyze the recurrence and metastasis patterns and prognosis after complete resection of retroperitoneal liposarcoma.MethodsThe clinical postoperative follow-up data and results of patients who underwent complete resection of retroperitoneal liposarcoma from September 10, 2014, to September 8, 2021, at Hebei Medical University hospital were collected retrospectively.ResultsA total of 60 patients with complete resection of retroperitoneal liposarcoma, including 33 cases of retroperitoneal liposarcoma recurrence, 2 cases of liver metastasis, and 1 case of lung metastasis, were included. The results showed that 100% of the recurrent sites were located in the primary region of the tumor, with most recurrences located near the kidney, paracolic sulci, and iliac vessels. Three patients had distant metastasis without obvious recurrence on imaging examination. The pathological type of retroperitoneal liposarcoma, Ki67 expression, and presence of serum albumin were risk factors for recurrence and metastasis after complete resection of retroperitoneal liposarcoma. The malignancy and Ki67 expression were independent risk factors for recurrence and metastasis as well as for overall survival of patients undergoing complete resection of retroperitoneal liposarcoma.ConclusionComplete resection remains the most effective method to treat retroperitoneal liposarcoma. Patients with pathological types of retroperitoneal liposarcoma showing dedifferentiation, pleomorphism, mixed type, and high Ki67 expression should be closely monitored and observed after complete resection, especially for imaging changes in the primary tumor area.

BackgroundIncreasing evidence suggests that esophageal cancer (ESCA) may be correlated with gut flora. However, their causal connection remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate potential causal linkages and gene–gut microbiome associations between the gut microbiota and ESCA using Mendelian randomization (MR).MethodsWe analyzed the data using genome-wide association studies. The exposure factor and outcome variable were the gut microbiota and ESCA, respectively. The MR-Egger method, weighted median, inverse-variance weighted method, heterogeneity test, sensitivity analysis, and multiplicity analysis were used for the MR analysis. And it was validated using an external dataset. Further meta-analysis was performed to validate the robustness of this relationship. Finally, we annotated single nucleotide polymorphisms in the gut microbiota that were causally associated with ESCA to explore possible host gene-gut microbiota correlations in patients with ESCA.ResultsWe identified four species with potential associations with ESCA. Three of these species had a negative causal relationship with ESCA (odds ratio (OR): 0.961; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.923–0.971; p = 0.047 for Romboutsia; OR: 0.972; 95% CI: 0.921–0.961; p = 0.018 for Lachnospira; OR: 0.948; 95% CI: 0.912–0.970; p = 0.032 for Eubacterium). A positive causal relationship was observed between one bacterial group and ESCA (OR: 1.105; 95% CI: 1.010–1.072; p = 0.018 for Veillonella). External datasets show the same trend. This is further supported by meta-analysis. None of the data showed pleiotropy, and leave-one-out analysis indicated the reliability of these findings. The gut microbiomes of patients with ESCA may correlate with the 19 identified genes.ConclusionOur data indicate a potential causal link between these four gut bacteria and ESCA and identify a correlation between host genes and gut microbiota in ESCA, offering novel therapeutic options.

Introduction: Pregnanediol-3-glucuronide (PdG), as the main metabolite of progesterone in urine, plays a significant role in the prediction of ovulation, threatened abortion, and menstrual cycle maintenance.Methods: To achieve a rapid and sensitive assay, we have designed a competitive model-based time-resolved fluorescence microsphere-lateral flow immunochromatography (TRFM-LFIA) strip.Results: The optimized TRFM-LFIA strip exhibited a wonderful response to PdG over the range of 30–2,000 ng/mL, the corresponding limit of detection (LOD) was calculated as low as 8.39 ng/mL. More importantly, the TRFM-LFIA strip was innovatively used for the quantitative detection of PdG in urine sample, and excellent recovery results were also obtained, ranging from 97.39% to 112.64%.Discussion: The TRFMLFIA strip possessed robust sensitivity and selectivity in the determination of PdG, indicating the great potential of being powerful tools in the biomedical and diagnosis region.

China is a large oil-consuming country, and sharp fluctuations in oil prices are bound to be detrimental to the stable growth of its economy. Therefore, accurately grasping the impact of the oil market on China’s sectors is the key to ensuring its healthy economic development. The article aims to explore the extreme risk transfer link of the oil and China’s sectors system, focusing on uncovering the risk spillover mechanism of the oil and providing early warning on it. We apply the TENET method to discuss risk propagation relationships within the oil and sectors system at three levels. The TVP-VAR model is brought in to recognize the factors affecting risk spillover in the oil market from the network correlation perspective. Finally, early warning of oil risk spillover is provided by incorporating the influencing factors into a machine learning model. The outcomes indicate that the risk connectivity of the oil and China’s sectors system is highly correlated with extreme events. There are variations in the spillover effects of oil market risk on different sectors, with Telecommunication Services, Utilities, Financials and Major Consumer sectors being the main bearers of the oil risk shocks. Overall, oil risk spillovers are mainly driven by economic policy and geopolitics, but oil price uncertainty is found to have a persistent impact on oil market risk spillovers in the dynamic analysis. Random forest model can provide effective early warning of oil risk spillovers. In addition, the significance analysis shows that oil price uncertainty and inflation are important factors affecting oil risk spillovers and are nonlinearly correlated with them.

IntroductionTumor-associated autoantibodies have been revealed as promising biomarkers for the early detection of lung cancer. This study was designed to develop an autoantibody panel for early detection of lung cancer in the Chinese population.MethodsRecruited prospectively in three clinical centers, the subjects (n = 991) who had a definite diagnosis during follow-up were included in the development of the autoantibody panel. The levels of 14 autoantibody candidates in plasma were detected.ResultsA panel of nine autoantibody markers (named as CN9), namely, P53, SOX2, SSX1, HuD, NY-ESO-1, CAGE, MAGE-A4, P62, and CK20, was preferably selected from 14 candidates. The overall specificity, sensitivity, and AUC were 90.5%, 40.8%, and 0.64, respectively. The CN9 panel demonstrated a reasonable detection rate in lung cancer patients at all stages, histological types, sizes of lesions, and risk levels. Its estimated overall accuracy is 85.5% and 90%, with PPV at 0.32 and 0.04, and NPV at 0.93 and 0.99 in the scenario of pulmonary nodules' characterizing and lung cancer screening, respectively. Two risk models were developed within the subgroups of malignant and benign pulmonary nodules in this study. By adding the CN9 result to the Mayo model indicators, it achieved a sensitivity of 41.3% and an AUC of 0.74 at a specificity of 91.3%. By adding the CN9 result to the Brock model indicators, it achieved a sensitivity of 47.7% and an AUC of 0.78 at a specificity of 91.3%. Both were improved compared with either the standalone Mayo or Brock model.DiscussionThis multi-center prospective study indicates a panel of nine autoantibody markers that can help in the detection of lung cancer and the classification of pulmonary nodules in the Chinese population.

IntroductionChilling injury is one of the most common meteorological disasters affecting cucumber production. For implementing remedial measures as soon as possible to minimize production loss, a timely and precise assessment of chilling injury is crucial.MethodsTo evaluate the possibility of detecting cucumber chilling injury using chlorophyll fluorescence (ChlF) technology, we investigated the continuous changes in ChlF parameters under various low-temperature conditions and created the criteria for evaluating chilling injury. The ChlF induction curves were first collected before low-temperature as unstressed samples and daily 1 to 5 days after low-temperature as chilling injury samples. Principal component analysis was employed to investigate the public information on ChlF parameters and evaluate the differences between samples with different degrees of chilling injury. The parameters (Fv/Fm, Y(NO), qP, and Fo) accounted for a large proportion in the principal components and could characterize chilling injury. Uniform manifold approximation and projection method was employed to extract new features (Feature 1, Feature 2, Feature 3, and Feature 4) from ChlF parameters for subsequent classification model. Taking four features as input, a classification model based on the Fuzzy C-means clustering algorithm was constructed in order to identify the chilling injury classes of cucumber seedlings. The cucumber seedlings with different chilling injury classes were analyzed for ChlF images, rapid light curves, and malondialdehyde content.Results and discussionThe results demonstrated that the variations in these indicators among the different chilling injury classes supported the validity of the classification model. Our findings provide a better understanding of the relationship between ChlF parameters and the impact of low-temperature treatment on cucumber seedlings. This finding offers an additional perspective that can be used to evaluate the responses and damage that plants experience under stress.

ObjectiveHIV/AIDS remains a global public health problem, and understanding the structure of social networks of people living with HIV/AIDS is of great importance to unravel HIV transmission, propose precision control and reduce new infections. This study aimed to investigate the epidemiological characteristics of HIV transmission in Fujian province, southeastern China from 2015 to 2020 based on HIV molecular network.MethodsNewly diagnosed, treatment-naive HIV/AIDS patients were randomly sampled from Fujian province in 2015 and 2020. Plasma was sampled for in-house genotyping resistance test, and HIV molecular network was created using the HIV-TRACE tool. Factors affecting the inclusion of variables in the HIV molecular network were identified using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses.ResultsA total of 1,714 eligible cases were finally recruited, including 806 cases in 2015 and 908 cases in 2020. The dominant HIV subtypes were CRF01_AE (41.7%) and CRF07_BC (38.3%) in 2015 and CRF07_BC (53. 3%) and CRF01_AE (29.1%) in 2020, and the prevalence of HIV drug resistance was 4.2% in 2015 and 5.3% in 2020. Sequences of CRF07_BC formed the largest HIV-1 transmission cluster at a genetic distance threshold of both 1.5 and 0.5%. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that ages of under 20 years and over 60 years, CRF07_BC subtype, Han ethnicity, sampling in 2015, absence of HIV drug resistance, married with spouse, sampling from three cities of Jinjiang, Nanping and Quanzhou resulted in higher proportions of sequences included in the HIV transmission molecular network at a genetic distance threshold of 1.5% (p < 0.05).ConclusionOur findings unravel the HIV molecular transmission network of newly diagnosed HIV/AIDS patients in Fujian province, southeastern China, which facilitates the understanding of HIV transmission patterns in the province.

Despite various treatment methods, the remission rate of membranous nephropathy remains limited. Refractory membranous nephropathy especially lacks effective treatment plans. Telitacicept achieves comprehensive inhibition of CD20-positive B cells, plasma cells, and T cells, thereby bringing new hope to the treatment of membranous nephropathy and refractory membranous nephropathy. Here, we report a case of a 46-year-old man with membranous nephropathy. Although the combined treatment with glucocorticoid, tacrolimus, mycophenolate mofetil, cyclophosphamide, and rituximab was not successful, the patient achieved complete remission of urinary protein after glucocorticoid combined with telitacicept. This is the first report on the application of telitacicept in the treatment of membranous nephropathy, especially refractory membranous nephropathy. The application of telitacicept in the treatment of membranous nephropathy deserves further attention.

IntroductionGradient vector flow (GVF) has been proven as an effective external force for active contours. However, its smoothness constraint does not take the image structure into account, such that the GVF diffusion is isotropic and cannot preserve weak edges well.MethodsIn this article, an image structure adaptive gradient vector flow (ISAGVF) external force is proposed for active contours. In the proposed ISAGVF model, the smoothness constraint is first reformulated in matrix form, and then the image structure tensor is incorporated. As the structure tensor characterizes the image structure well, the proposed ISAGVF model can be adaptive to image structure, and the ISAGVF snake performs well on weak edge preservation and deep concavity convergence while possessing some other desirable properties of the GVF snake, such as enlarged capture range and insensitivity to initialization.ResultsExperiments on synthetic and real images manifest these properties of the ISAGVF snake.

Regular checkups for thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels are essential for the diagnosis of thyroid disease. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique is a standard method for detecting TSH in the serum or plasma of hospitalized patients. A recently developed next-generation ELISA, the digital immunoassay (d-IA), has facilitated detection of molecules with ultra-high-sensitivity. In this study, we developed a TSH assay system using the d-IA platform. By utilizing the ultrasensitivity of d-IA, we were able to use a sample volume of as little as 5 µL for each assay (the dead volume was 5 µL). The limits of blank, detection, and quantification (i.e., functional sensitivity), were 0.000346, 0.001953, and 0.002280 μIU/mL, respectively, and the precision of the total coefficient of variation did not exceed 10%. The correlation between serum and plasma levels indicated good agreement. Thus, our system successfully measured TSH using d-IA with a small sample volume and equal functional sensitivity to the current third generation like ARCHITECT TSH assay, which has a functional sensitivity of 0.0038 μIU/mL.

CO2 capture using monoethanolamine (MEA) is one of the important decarbonization options and often considered as a benchmark, while the optimal MEA contraction and systematic process study are still lacking. In this work, firstly, the MEA concentrations between 15 and 30 wt% were studied from both process simulations with Aspen Plus and experimental measurements in the pilot-scale. 20 wt% MEA was identified as the preferable solution. Subsequently, a systematic analysis was conducted for CO2 capture using 20 wt% MEA with/without CO2 compression to study how various parameters, including gas flow rate, CO2 concentration, and CO2 removal rate, affected the energy demand and techno-economic performances quantitatively. The influence of each parameter on both energy demand and cost showed an obvious non-linear relationship, evidencing the importance of systematic analysis for further study on decarbonization. The evaluation indicated that the regeneration heat required the largest portion of energy demand. The economic analysis showed that the capital cost was more sensitive to the selected parameters than the operational cost, while the operational cost created a major change in the overall cost. In addition, the gas flow rate and CO2 concentration were the main parameters affecting the cost, rather than the CO2 removal rate. Finally, it was suggested that, for a new plant, CO2 capture showed the minimum investment cost per ton CO2 when operating the plant on a large scale, high CO2 concentration, and high CO2 removal rate; for an existing plant, the capture preferred to run with the high CO2 removal rate.

Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is a kind of systemic vasculitis affecting individuals over 50 years old and is often the cause of new-onset headaches in older adults. Patients with GCA sometimes have rheumatic polymyalgia (PMR). The diagnosis of GCA generally depends on clinical manifestation, elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) or C-reactive protein, and positive imaging findings commonly obtained by ultrasound or temporal artery biopsy. In this study, we report a case of an 83-year-old woman with a new-onset headache and an elevated ESR. The result of the temporal artery ultrasound did not distinguish between vasculitis and atherosclerosis. The F18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography and computed tomography (18F FDG PET-CT) were performed and suggested large vessel vasculitis with temporal artery involvement. In addition, polyarticular synovitis and bursitis were also revealed. Finally, the diagnosis of secondary headache attributed to CGA complicated with PMR was established. The patient experienced remission of symptoms after glucocorticoid therapy. PET can become a powerful tool for diagnosis and differential diagnosis when the ultrasound result is ambiguous and a biopsy is not obtained.

IntroductionIn coronary bifurcation lesions treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using a 1-stent strategy, the occurrence of side branch (SB) compromise may lead to long-term myocardial ischemia in the SB territory. Murray law–based quantitative flow ratio (μQFR) is a novel angiography-based approach estimating fractional flow reserve from a single angiographic view, and thus is more feasible to assess SB compromise in routine practice. However, its association with long-term SB coronary blood flow remains unknown.MethodsA total of 146 patients with 313 non-left main bifurcation lesions receiving 1-stent strategy with drug-eluting stents was included in this retrospective study. These lesions had post-procedural Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) flow grade 3 in SBs, and documented angiographic images of index procedure and 6- to 24-month angiographic follow-up. Post-procedural SB μQFR was calculated. Long-term SB coronary blood flow was quantified with the TIMI grading system using angiograms acquired at angiographic follow-up.ResultsAt follow-up, 8 (2.6%), 16 (5.1%), 61 (19.5%), and 228 (72.8%) SBs had a TIMI flow grade of 0, 1, 2, and 3, respectively. The incidences of long-term SB TIMI flow grade ≤1 and ≤2 both tended to decrease across the tertiles of post-procedural SB μQFR. The receiver operating characteristic curve analyses indicated the post-procedural SB μQFR ≤0.77 was the optimal cut-off value to identify long-term SB TIMI flow grade ≤1 (specificity, 37.50%; sensitivity, 87.20%; area under the curve, 0.6673; P = 0.0064), and it was independently associated with 2.57-fold increased risk (adjusted OR, 2.57; 95% CI, 1.02–7.25; P = 0.045) in long-term SB TIMI flow grade ≤1 after adjustment.DiscussionPost-procedural SB μQFR was independently associated with increased risk in impaired SB TIMI flow at long-term follow-up. Further investigations should focus on whether PCI optimization based on μQFR may contribute to improve SB flow in the long term.

Potentilla fruticosa, a major alpine shrubland type, is widely distributed across the Tibetan Plateau, and grazing is the most common disturbance in the shrublands of P. fruticosa. However, soil organic carbon (SOC), soil total nitrogen (STN), soil total phosphorus (STP), and their stoichiometry under different grazing intensities were unclear. In our study, we explored SOC, STN, STP, their stoichiometry, and their controlling factors in the grazing disturbance of heavy grazing (HG), moderate grazing (MG), light grazing (LG), and no grazing (NG) conditions in the Tibetan Plateau P. fruticosa shrublands. The grazing intensities were mainly assessed by considering the shrublands’ ground cover, the indicators of the road density, the distance between sampling sites and cowshed or sheep shed, the amounts of cow and sheep dung, and vegetation that had been gnawed and stampeded. Our results indicated that soil physical properties of soil temperature and bulk density have decreasing trends with decreasing grazing intensities from HG to NG. The SOC, STN, STP, and soil C:N and C:P ratios have increasing trends with decreasing grazing intensities from HG to NG, while the changes in soil N:P ratio were relatively stable along grazing intensities. Our results indicated that HG generally had stronger effects on SOC, STN, and soil C:N and C:P ratios than NG, indicating substantial effects of grazing disturbance on biogeochemical cycles of SOC and STN in the shrubland ecosystems. Therefore, for the alpine shrubland of P. fruticosa, the HG should be avoided for sustainable cycling of soil nutrients and the balance of soil nutrient stoichiometry. The grazing types can directly affect plant conditions, and plant conditions can directly affect soil physical and chemical properties and litter standing crops. Finally, soil physicochemical properties and litter standing crop resulting from different grazing intensities directly control SOC, STN, and STP. For the soil stoichiometry, the soil’s physical and chemical properties resulting from different grazing intensities have direct impacts on soil C:P and N:P ratios.

The ketogenic diet (KD) has shown excellent performance in the treatment of refractory epilepsy, but how it works is not yet fully understood. Gut microbiota is associated with various neurological disorders through the brain-gut axis. Different dietary patterns have different effects on the composition and function of gut microbiota. Here, by analyzing fecal samples from some patients with mitochondrial epilepsy before and after KD treatment through 16SrRNA sequencing, we found that KD intervention reduced the abundance of Firmicutes in the patient’s gut, while the abundance of Bacteroidota increased in the KD group. LefSe analysis showed that Actinobacteriota, Phascolarctobacterium had significant advantages in the control group, while Bacteroides increased significantly after KD intervention, especially Bacteroides fragilis. Functional analysis showed that there were significant differences in 12 pathways in level 3. These changes suggest that KD can change the composition and diversity of the gut microbiota in patients and affect their function. Changes in specific bacterial groups in the gut may serve as biomarkers for the therapeutic effects of KD on epilepsy.

Purpose: Poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid)-based nanoparticles (PLGA NPs) have been widely used as the carrier for sustainable drug delivery. However, the drug release from the NPs was usually incomplete and uncontrollable. Herein, a low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) assisted SDF-1/BMP-2@nanoparticles (S/B@NPs) system was fabricated to facilitate stem cell recruitment-osteogenesis for periodontal bone regeneration.Methods: In this work, S/B@NPs were prepared with double-emulsion synthesis method. Then the S/B release profile from NPs was evaluated with or without low intensity pulsed ultrasound treatment. Afterwards, the stem cell recruiting and osteoinductive capacities of LIPUS-S/B@NPs were detected with human periodontal ligament cells (hPDLCs) in vitro and in a rat periodontal bone defect model.Results: The results indicated that S/B@NPs were successfully prepared and LIPUS could effectively regulate the release of S/B and increase their final releasing amount. Moreover, LIPUS-S/B@NPs system significantly promoted hPDLCs migrating and osteogenesis in vitro and recruiting rBMSCs to the rat periodontal defect and facilitated bone regeneration in vivo.Conclusion: Our LIPUS assisted S/B@NPs system can effectively facilitate stem cell recruitment and periodontal bone regeneration. Considering its reliable safety and therapeutic effect on bone fracture, LIPUS, as an adjuvant therapy, holds great potential in the regulation of drug delivery systems for bone healing.

In order to improve the application possibility of CO2/R41 azeotropy mixture in the refrigeration industry, the optimum mass ratio of composition is defined and determined according to the thermodynamic properties and safety. On the basis of the first and second laws of thermodynamics, a model is proposed to evaluate the performance of CO2/R41 single-stage transcritical cycle (CO2/R41 cycle) in which a throttling valve is integrated and CO2/R41 azeotropy refrigerant is adopted. The performance of CO2/R41 cycle at the optimum mass ratio of CO2/R41 azeotropy mixture is then compared with that of a CO2 two-stage transcritical cycle with throttling valve (CO2 two-stage cycle) and that of a CO2 single-stage transcritical cycle with expander (CO2 expander cycle). The results show that the optimum mass ratio of CO2/R41 azeotropy mixture is 0.583/0.417. Compared with CO2 two-stage cycle and CO2 expander cycle, CO2/R41 cycle has the advantages of a simpler structure, lower optimum high pressure, appropriate discharge temperature of the compressor, and higher COP. Therefore, the CO2/R41 azeotropy mixture with the mass ratio of 0.583/0.417 is eco-friendly and can be considered as a good alternative refrigerant for application in the refrigeration industry. The simple CO2/R41 cycle shows great feasibility to replace the complex CO2 two-stage cycle and CO2 expander cycle.

The Shanghai high-repetition-rate XFEL and extreme light facility (SHINE) plans to install several elliptically polarizing undulators (EPUs) as afterburners behind the planar undulator section to obtain nearly saturated circularly polarized free-electron laser (FEL) radiation. Therefore, the SHINE R&D project needs to develop a 4-m-long EPU with an effective magnetic field of 1.5 T, a period of 68 mm, and a minimum gap of 3 mm. A magnetic force compensation EPU prototype has recently been built and tested at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) based on the addition of permanent magnets. This prototype can realize magnetic compensation under various polarization modes in all working gaps, thereby reducing the deformation of the girders and maintaining sufficient rigidity of the mechanical structure. A girder deformation monitoring system was established to obtain real force compensation feedback. The final magnetic field measurement results meet the physical requirements, and the proposed scheme can be used as an alternative to the EPU with a high magnetic field and large magnetic force.

Underwater images are generally of low quality, limiting the performance of subsequent perceptual tasks, such as underwater object detection and recognition. However, only a few methods can improve the quality of underwater images by simultaneously restoring and super-resolving underwater images. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end trainable model based on generative adversarial networks (GANs) called Simultaneous Restoration and Super-Resolution GAN (SRSRGAN) to obtain clear super-resolution underwater images automatically. In particular, our model leverages a cascaded architecture with two stages of carefully designed generative adversarial networks to restore and super-resolve corrupted underwater images in a coarse-to-fine manner. The major advantages of SRSRGAN are twofold. First, it is a unified solution that can simultaneously restore and super-resolve images. Second, SRSRGAN is not limited by the prior experience of the types and levels of underwater degraded images but can perform the inference using only observed corrupted images. These two advantages enable SRSRGAN to enjoy better flexibility and higher practicability in realistic underwater scenarios. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the superiority of SRSRGAN in underwater image restoration, super-resolution, and simultaneous restoration and super-resolution.

Brain-computer interface (BCI) based on lower-limb motor imagery (LMI) enables hemiplegic patients to stand and walk independently. However, LMI ability is usually poor for BCI-illiterate (e.g., some stroke patients), limiting BCI performance. This study proposed a novel LMI-BCI paradigm with kinesthetic illusion(KI) induced by vibratory stimulation on Achilles tendon to enhance LMI ability. Sixteen healthy subjects were recruited to carry out two research contents: (1) To verify the feasibility of induced KI by vibrating Achilles tendon and analyze the EEG features produced by KI, research 1 compared the subjective feeling and brain activity of participants during rest task with and without vibratory stimulation (V-rest, rest). (2) Research 2 compared the LMI-BCI performance with and without KI (KI-LMI, no-LMI) to explore whether KI enhances LMI ability. The analysis methods of both experiments included classification accuracy (V-rest vs. rest, no-LMI vs. rest, KI-LMI vs. rest, KI-LMI vs. V-rest), time-domain features, oral questionnaire, statistic analysis and brain functional connectivity analysis. Research 1 verified that induced KI by vibrating Achilles tendon might be feasible, and provided a theoretical basis for applying KI to LMI-BCI paradigm, evidenced by oral questionnaire (Q1) and the independent effect of vibratory stimulation during rest task. The results of research 2 that KI enhanced mesial cortex activation and induced more intensive EEG features, evidenced by ERD power, topographical distribution, oral questionnaire (Q2 and Q3), and brain functional connectivity map. Additionally, the KI increased the offline accuracy of no-LMI/rest task by 6.88 to 82.19% (p 75.31%, and average F1_score for all subjects: 76.4% > 74.3%). The LMI-BCI paradigm of this study provides a novel approach to enhance LMI ability and accelerates the practical applications of the LMI-BCI system.

IntroductionCognitive psychology is one of the important perspectives to understand depression. Compared with previous studies, recent researchers increasingly focused on the exploration of the comprehensive cognitive process of patients with depression. The cognitive operation ability of working memory is an important comprehensive cognitive process, which reflects how individuals establish representations. This is the basis for the formation of experience and schema. The purpose of this study is to explore whether there are abnormalities in cognitive manipulation in patients with depression, and to analyze its possible role in the pathogenesis and maintenance of depression.MethodIn this cross-sectional study, depressed patients was enrolled in the clinical psychology department of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital as the case group, while healthy individuals were recruited in the hospital and social meetings as the control group. Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD)-17, Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) and rumination thinking scale (RRS) were adopted as measurement tools, and working memory operation tasks were adopted to test each subject, so as to measure their cognitive operation ability.ResultA total of 78 depressed patients and 81 healthy individuals completed the study. The results showed that the rumination level of the case group was higher than that of the control group, and the difference was significant first; Second, in the “inconsistent” condition, the case group under different stimulus conditions when the response was significantly higher than the control group; Thirdly, the “cognitive operation consumption” value of the case group was significantly higher than that of the control group under the three stimulus conditions, among which, the operational cost value of sadness—neutral stimulus was significantly higher than that of the other two stimulus conditions.ConclusionPatients with depression had obvious difficulties in cognitive manipulation of information with different values in working memory, which reflected in the fact that it took them longer time to adjust the relationship between information and established new representations. Among them, patients with depression had a higher degree of cognitive manipulation of sad stimuli, indicating that their abnormal cognitive manipulation had certain emotion specificity. Finally, the difficulty of cognitive operation was closely related to the level of rumination.

Introduction: Urachal carcinoma (UrC) is a rare and aggressive disease. Systematic chemotherapy shows limited efficacy in patients with advanced disease, while targeted therapy and immunotherapy may provide a reasonable alternative for specific populations. The molecular pattern of colorectal cancer (CRC) have recently been identified; this understanding has significantly influenced the clinical management of CRC in terms of molecular-targeted therapy. Although some genetic alterations have been associated with UrC, there is still no systematic overview of the molecular profile of this rare malignancy.Methods: In this review, we comprehensively discuss the molecular profile of UrC and further identify potential targets for the personalized treatment of UrC as well as immune checkpoint inhibitors that represent underlying biomarkers. A systematic literature search was carried out by searching the PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases to identify all literature related to targeted therapy and immunotherapy in urachal carcinoma from inception to February 2023.Results: A total of 28 articles were eligible, and most studies included were case report sand retrospective case series. Furthermore, 420 cases of UrC were identified to analyze the association between mutations and UrC. The most commonly mutated gene in UrC was TP53 with the prevalence of 70%, followed by KRAS mutations in 28.3%, MYC mutations in 20.3%, SMAD4 mutations in 18.2% and GNAS mutations in 18%, amongst other genes.Discussion: The molecular patterns of UrC and CRC are similar yet distinct. Notably, targeted therapy, especially EGFR-targeting therapy, might provide curative efficacy for patients with UrC by applying specific molecular markers. Additional potential biomarkers for the immunotherapy of UrC are mismatch repair (MMR) status and PD-L1 expression profile. In addition, combined regimens featuring targeted agents and immune checkpoint blockers might increase antitumor activity and exert better efficacy in UrC patients with specific mutational burden.

The Shanghai High repetition rate XFEL and Extreme light facility (SHINE) is under construction and aims at generating X-rays between 0.4 and 25 keV with three FEL beamlines at repetition rates of up to 1 MHz. The soft X-ray FEL beamline, FEL-II, will be ready for commissioning in 2025. It is designed to cover the photon energy from 0.4 to 3 keV, in which the baselines of the FEL operation modes are self-amplified spontaneous emission (SASE), self-seeding, echo-enabled harmonic generation (EEHG), and polarization control. Therefore, a high repetition-rate external seed laser, large period length modulator, soft X-ray monochromator, planar undulator, and elliptically polarized undulator have been adopted in the FEL-II beamline. Several potentials such as an ultra-short pulse mode and a multi-color mode are also foreseeable without significant equipment changes in the follow-up operation. A dual-period undulator design is suggested for the echo-enabled harmonic generation (EEHG) commissioning, and it has great potential to break through the unreachable energy of the fully coherent X-ray in the future. The FEL-II beamline will deliver SASE radiation and fully coherent radiation in all the wavelengths of interest.
