IntroductionAs global resource demands and environmental challenges intensify, China's vast marine resources present a significant opportunity for sustainable economic development. This study investigates the impact of financial development on high-quality growth in China's marine economy across 11 coastal regions from 2011 to 2020.MethodsWe examine a mediation and moderation model linking financial development and marine economic quality in China, where the marine economy increasingly relies on financial support. This study proposes marine innovation output and industrial structure upgradation as mediators, with marine capital investment as a moderator.ResultsOur findings reveal that financial development significantly promotes high-quality marine economic growth, albeit with regional heterogeneity. The strongest effect is observed in the Eastern Marine Economic Zone, while the Southern Marine Economic Zone shows the weakest impact. Marine scientific research and industrial structure upgrading serve as key mediating factors, with the former demonstrating a stronger intermediary effect. Notable, marine capital investment positively moderates the relationship between financial development and marine economic growth.DiscussionThis study innovatively combines macro-finance and micro-finance indicators to construct a comprehensive financial development index system. It incorporates a multi-dimensional approach to measuring high-quality development in coastal regions, challenging one-size-fits-all models by highlighting regional variations. By providing insights into specific differences and underlying mechanisms, our study offers valuable guidance for policymakers in crafting region-specific strategies to leverage financial development for sustainable marine economic growth.

Central nervous system (CNS) diseases have been a growing threat to the health of humanity, emphasizing the urgent need of exploring the pathogenesis and therapeutic approaches of various CNS diseases. Primary neurons are directly obtained from animals or humans, which have wide applications including disease modeling, mechanism exploration and drug development. However, traditional two-dimensional (2D) monoculture cannot resemble the native microenvironment of CNS. With the increasing understanding of the complexity of the CNS and the remarkable development of novel biomaterials, in vitro models have experienced great innovation from 2D monoculture toward three-dimensional (3D) multicellular culture. The scope of this review includes the progress of various in vitro models of primary neurons in recent years to provide a holistic view of the modalities and applications of primary neuron models and how they have been connected with the revolution of biofabrication techniques. Special attention has been paid to the interaction between primary neurons and biomaterials. First, a brief introduction on the history of CNS modeling and primary neuron culture was conducted. Next, detailed progress in novel in vitro models were discussed ranging from 2D culture, ex vivo model, spheroid, scaffold-based model, 3D bioprinting model, and microfluidic chip. Modalities, applications, advantages, and limitations of the aforementioned models were described separately. Finally, we explored future prospects, providing new insights into how basic science research methodologies have advanced our understanding of the CNS, and highlighted some future directions of primary neuron culture in the next few decades.

The deubiquitinating enzyme (DUB)–mediated cleavage of ubiquitin plays a critical role in balancing protein synthesis and degradation. Ubiquitin-specific protease 4 (USP4), a member of the largest subfamily of cysteine protease DUBs, removes monoubiquitinated and polyubiquitinated chains from its target proteins. USP4 contains a DUSP (domain in USP)–UBL (ubiquitin-like) domain and a UBL-insert catalytic domain, sharing a common domain organization with its paralogs USP11 and USP15. USP4 plays a critical role in multiple cellular and biological processes and is tightly regulated under normal physiological conditions. When its expression or activity is aberrant, USP4 is implicated in the progression of a wide range of pathologies, especially cancers. In this review, we comprehensively summarize the current knowledge of USP4 structure, biological functions, pathological roles, and cellular regulation, highlighting the importance of exploring effective therapeutic interventions to target USP4.

Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in distinguishing between benign and malignant cervical lymph nodes in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).Material and Methods: A total of 144 NPC patients with enlarged superficial cervical lymph nodes underwent CEUS examination. The comparison of CEUS image characteristics between malignant and benign cervical lymph nodes was performed in this study as well. We analyzed parameters of the time–intensity curve (TIC), which includes time to peak (TP), area under the gamma curve (AUC), and peak intensity (PI). Furthermore, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was also investigated to evaluate the diagnostic value of CEUS.Result: We conducted 144 lymph node examinations in total, where 64 cases were biopsy-proven benign nodules and 80 cases were biopsy-proven metastatic nodules. The vast majority of the benign nodes displayed centrifugal perfusion (96.88%, 62/64) and homogeneous enhancement (93.75%, 60/64), while most of the malignant nodes showed centripetal perfusion (92.50%, 74/80) and inhomogeneous 80.00% (64/80). In addition, quantitative analysis showed that CEUS parameters including PI, TP, and AUC in benign lymph nodes (12.51 ± 2.15, 23.79 ± 11.80, and 1110.33 ± 286.17, respectively) were significantly higher than that in the malignant nodes (10.51 ± 2.98, 16.52 ± 6.95, and 784.09 ± 340.24, respectively). The assistance of the three aforementioned parameters and CEUS image characteristics would result in an acceptable diagnostic value.Conclusion: Our results suggest that imaging perfusion patterns as well as quantitative parameters obtained from CEUS provide valuable information for the evaluation of cervical lymph nodes in NPC patients.
