The article discusses the positives of contingency planning as a way to deal with problematic situations by reducing the influence of variable outside factors. The author suggests that panic in stressful circumstances affects leaders’ decision making and gives examples from business, sports, and warfare. Attention, creativity, and adaptivity are outlined as important qualities for the successful planning of contingencies.
