The inscription contains a decree with which the city of Aphrodisias promises to provide military aid to the Roman proconsul Oppius, besieged in Laodicea by Mithridates’ troops. The city decides to send immediately ambassadors to the proconsul to inform him of the good disposition of the city towards the Romans and to appoint the stephanophoros Artemidorus as the military head of the contingent of auxiliary troops, which also includes paroikoi and slaves. Il presente lavoro offre una nuova edizione del trattato di alleanza tra Atene e Caristo del 357 a.C. che comprende una proposta di integrazione delle linee 2-3 e 4-6 ed una rilettura del contesto storico in cui l'iscrizione si inserisce. Attraverso un confronto del contenuto dell'iscrizione con la documentazione letteraria (Eschine, Demostene e Diodoro) il contributo esamina la storia della città euboica e delle sue relazioni con Atene negli anni '70 e '50 del quarto secolo a.C. e fissa un intervallo cronologico circa la data dell'ingresso di Caristo nella Seconda lega ateniese. This paper offers a new critical edition of the alliance treaty between Athens and Carystus of 357 BC and proposes a new supplement for lines 2-3 and 4-6. Moreover, a fresh discussion of the historical background which the decree refers to is given. Thanks to literary documentation (Aeschines, Demosthenes, Diodorus) the paper examines the history of Carystus, her relationships with Athens in the 470s and 450s BC, and establishes a time frame to date Carystus’ entry into the Second Athenian League., Axon

This inscription, found on the Acropolis of Athens and usually dated to the late sixth century BCE, bears the earliest extant Athenian decree. The decree defines the legal status of a group of citizens living on Salamis. According to the reading supported here, the Athenians allow them to reside on Salamis, but rule them to be equal to the citizens living in Attica with regard to fiscal and military obligations. Land lease agreements and the procurement of arms by the cleruchs are subsequently regulated. The final line could contain a mention of the Council, which does not appear in the opening formula, or the eponymous archon’s name., Axon

The inscription consists of an official letter, dated to the reign of king Antiochus I, sent by Evandros to Andragoras and Apollodotos, Seleucid officials, regarding the deed of manumission of the slave Hermaios, consecrated to the god Sarapis, and his exposure into the Sarapis sanctuary. The provenance of the stone, photographed by Ghirshman in 1959 in Teheran, is uncertain, however it can be considered Hyrcania, modern Gorgān.
